Tom was very knowledgeable and informed me that I do not need to air seal my attic like I had thought. He really took the time to check the condensation in the attic. He also checked my furnace to see if there was a humidifier that maybe causing more condensation. Tom did not seem to find alarming rates of excess condensation and that it was at a normal level. He told me that I do not need to worry. I really appreciated his honesty and knowledge. Tom was not trying to sell me services I do not need.

Description of Work: Reduced air leakage in home by sealing leaks in attic spaces. Increased attic insulation to R50 level. Quoted price was very good, but contractor was too busy to complete work during 2014 when the natural gas utility was offering a rebate for insulation.

[Member name removed] if you are a Center Point Gas Company customer you would have been left a rebate form. The rebate program was in effect when we did your work. If you do not have it let me know. I will need to have the Certified crew chief fill out another one and send it to you. You will then need to fill out your part and send the form and a copy of the invoice for the work to Center Point.

The workers were all professional. They laid down coverings on our floors and carpeted areas where they needed to walk through. The owner always called in advance to make sure we were okay with them coming on a specific day. The owner also stopped by to make sure things were done correctly or assisted the other workers each day they were in our home. Although this is a busy time of year for insulation work, our job was completed in an acceptable amount of time. This insulation install was the result of an energy audit program offered in our county. We feel very confident that the job was done correctly and would definitely recommend this company for insulation needs.

Arrived as scheduled about 3 months after giving us a bid (about a month went by before we accepted their bid, then lots of rainy days in the spring undoubtedly set them back several weeks). These guys are the real deal: punctual, efficient without being manic, knowledgable and courteous. Price was considerably better than other bids we got. They scheduled the job for two days in June, and didn't quite finish, then it was about a month before we could schedule their return to finish the job, due to their schedule and mine. I have no complaint about that. What they DIDN'T do, that many other contractors would have done if their schedules were set back by the seemingly endless spring rains, was to promise they would show up, then postpone multiple times. And they didn't pressure us for payment before completion. We are very pleased with the results. Even in moderate summer weather, and even with the main attic already well insulated, we can feel the difference in the house. I am also very pleased with how well they handled removing and replacing the aluminum siding, which is a bit more challenging than vinyl. There was no visible damage, other than some paint scuffs that they had warned us about in advance. There was a minor mishap when they hit a wire while drilling into the wall, something that is going to happen occasionally, especially in an old house. They handled the situation well, and I can't reasonably hold them responsible for hitting a wire that was evidently too close to the outside of the wall cavity without protection. Overall, Twin City Insulation is one of the best contractors I have ever dealt with, perhaps the best.

Tom did an excellent job of explaining what they would do when he made the estimate. I got two other bids and both were very close to Tom's bid in terms of the work needed and cost. They showed up on time, were very professional, and kept us informed about their progress. The work was checked with a blower door. We have watched the roof over the winter and there is much less melting of snow on the roof than in the past. We are very pleased with the process and the results.
Description of Work: Twin City Insulation added soffit air chutes into the attic, sealed bypasses into the attic, and added insulation to increase the attic R value from 19 to 50. They weather stripped the attic door. They checked the exterior door weather stripping, but nothing was needed there. They also insulated the rim joist next to the garage.

Tom See was the first to respond to my request for bids, and he was very knowledgeable, providing information I needed, and assisting me in learning what I needed to know about the process. His bid was the most reasonable. There was a delay in the scheduling of the work, probably due to a small company that has alot of work. The team arrived on time on the scheduled day, were pleasant young men, explained what they would be doing, and went right to their work, cleaned up well. When there was an issue with one area/wall, the problem was explained and a solution proposed. When the problem still was't solved, I got a phone call from Tom See proposing another solution and asking for my permission to proceed. The team returned promptly the next day, did the work, and the problem was solved- at no extra cost. He also returned to fix a loose piece of siding that had been removed to fill a wall from the outside. I had an inspection done as part of an energy audit, and everything was approved, including the wall that had been a bit of a challenge.

We increased our attic insulation as part of a home performance audit and series of updates to qualify for rebates from XCel Energy. The main reason for our initiation of the home performance audit was a persistent heat leak into our attic that was creating ice dams. Twin City Insulation were absolutely terrific in sealing the air/heat leaks and increasing our insulation to R-50 -- very prompt, professional and hard-working. The owner, Tom, came quickly after we called, inspected our attic and recessed lights, and clearly explained what they would do to seal and insulate. They were right on time to do the job, and started with a blower door test to find leaks and measure the house "leakiness". They worked as a very efficient team, completing the work promptly and cleanly. They did another blower test to measure the overall effectiveness of their sealing, which was significant. They let us know that the worst heat leak was in a very awkward place, likely exacerbated by remodeling that had been done without regard to proper air flow to the attic. They alerted us that we might still have a slight leak, since a single recessed light can in the vicinity of the leak was not rated for insulation contact. They promised to return if there was still a problem and after the can was replaced so that it wouldn't be a potential fire hazard. Indeed, the next snow showed that there was still a slight heat leak. As promised, they returned right after the can was replaced, and increased the insulation to that area -- no extra charge! Our heat leak is now fixed. The home audit inspector, who returned after the insulating was complete gave the job two thumbs up!

They are awesome!! They are professional, honest, hardworking individuals. They do great work for a fair price. Our house is so much warmer now and the furnace does not have to work too hard.
Description of Work: They used a blower door at the start of their work and on completion of their work to measure the air flow out of the house. They also used the blower door during the work process to locate thermal bypassing of house air to the attic or to seal the paneling. In the attic areas they sealed the thermal bypasses to include the knee wall by pass, the electrical bypass, the plumbing bypassing. They insulated and weather-striped two attic access doors. They completely filled the peak attic up with cellulose insulation. Access for this was from the slant walls. They pressure packed the slant walls with cellulose insulation. Access for this will was from the side attics. They needed to protect the class B flue that passes through the slant wall to the roof. They needed to cut the plaster in the closet to access the flue. After protecting the flue they reinstalled the plaster (an area about one foot square). They installed two layers of r-11 insulation on the knee walls. They covered the cold side of the batting with house wrap. They pressure packed insulation under the floor boards of the side attics. They added additional insulation on top of the floor to achieve a total r factor of 50. They accessed the front entry attic from the side attic or by adding a new roof vent. The bypassing was sealed and the insulation was brought to an r-50 rating. They used the blower door to check the paneling on the second floor for air leaks. They caulked the air leaks as needed with a clear paintable caulk.

Tom first did a "blower door test" before beginning the work to measure air flow out of my home and again after he completed the work. Results were excellent. He also used this test to find thermal by-passing and areas to seal. His bid was very specific, detailing his procedures to significantly improve my 1940 stucco home's minimal insulation (there was very, very little anywhere in the home). He also bid insulating my exterior walls for even better comfort results, but that will be a future project. I would definitely hire him again for that job. Tom put plastic around everything in my attic prior to starting the work since it was a dusty job. His clean-up was superb. He did everything in his bid plan and more. He came back to my home a second time before I hired him to answer more questions and to review his plan. He was patient and explained everthing to me so that I felt that I was in good hands. After beginning my job, he discovered that previous work from another contractor was poorly done, so Tom and son Caleb re-did that work at no additional cost. WOW! Overall, an outstanding experience.

I had met with another insulation contractor who, when I hadn't received his estimate, claimed it must have gotten lost in the mail and promised to send a new copy. Needless to say, it never arrived. I was referred to Tom See and Twin City Insulation by a friend and could not be more pleased with the service I received. Tom came on time, sent the estimate that evening of the day we met, arrived to do the work when he said he would, completed the work on time and for considerably less than the estimate. I apparently had fewer recessed lights requiring a box to prevent direct contact with insulation than estimated.
