I also bought the $75.00 deal for an estimate for a kitchen redo. We were specific on what we wanted to do in our kitchen; where we lacked was the way to design it. My husband and I are two busy Nurses. Granted, I am looking to open our kitchen/living room into an open concept. A beam will need to be added, seeing that it's a support wall. Roger came out and "measured" our space. I told him that the most important thing was that on the East wall be cabinets to put my gadgets such as mixer, coffee maker, etc. The first design had so many mistakes on it, I wondered if it was for someone else. It also was very plain graphics and tough to read. Hardly anything was labeled. Then the CAD designer asked US to do some more measuring. HUH? We are Nurses, not contractors. I sent another detailed email to Roger spelling out our wishes. Again, telling him the most important thing is the East wall have storage for my gadgets. The second plan that came from the CAD designer had the double ovens and fridge on the East wall. I had it at that point. I wrote and cancelled their service. Too frustrating. I wish I could get my money back! This company is more interested in blowing smoke mirrors about a concept and closing a deal, that they will say they can do things that are way above the budget. Very frustrating and I would love to get my money back!

We had a several bids, and had very high price ranges from each of them. When we met with Roger, he made sense of what we wanted to accomplish in the basement. As we talked, he got an idea of what we were looking for and he was very accommodating throughout the process. He came up with some creative design ideas that we used in the basement. We were pleased with his suggested ideas, they look great. When the contract was signed, and the start of the project was determined, Roger & Crew started and finished the project within the time we expected. The work he did looks great! The price was fair. Roger, is a true professional.. We plan to use Him again for our kitchen! And we definitely would recommend, Affordable Design.

Roger was very late for our appointment. When he did get there he measured the basement, and we discussed what we were hoping to achieve. I realize we have a somewhat challenging space, but I was hoping he would come up with some good solutions. The plans were a bit disappointing in that regard. They looked very similar to our basement as it is was at the time. There were not any new walls, just custom cabinets added to existing walls. Also, there were no dimensions on the 'plans' as advertised in the deal. Overall a waste of time and money.

Thank you for your response right at holiday time a year later I apologize you we're not were not pleased with the plans and had higher expectations for your ($75) sometimes spaces such as yours are not feasible to redo walls based off of the small space and there is a reason the footprint has not been changed in 60+years I hope you can find what you are looking for in design aspect and thank you for the opportunity .Roger

The person who came to our house was very friendly and professional. He listened to our wish list and wrote down much of what we described. It took 6-8 weeks to receive the floorplan and when we finally got it, the plan was completely skewed with impossible angles. It was obvious a mistake was made. My concern was no one bothered to look at the design before they sent it to me. One look and it would have been obvious. I sent it back and they were very accommodating. They sent back a corrected design but there wasn't any prices listed. I was also expecting the design to look like something you would have seen on HGTV. I could have done the same design in MS Excel. Hardly worth the $75. Based on our experience with this company we decided not to use this company. I guess I don't mind spending $75 to discover this company probably isn't the best fit for us.
Description of Work: In June we paid $75 for this company to come in and create a remodel design of our kitchen and living room. We wanted to add an island, new countertops and black splash and refinish our cabinets. We also asked for a design of our living room, specifically our fireplace and bookshelves. We also wanted our popcorn ceilings redone as a textured ceiling. We we expecting a design document on the remodel and prices for everything including the miscellaneous work we requested.

I purchased a deal on Angie's List for $75 for plans for a redesign of a kitchen. The contractor came out and took measurements and pictures within a few days of me purchasing the deal. So prompt in the initial meeting. But then I didn't hear anything back from the contractor after that. Since I was regularly requested from Angie's List to write a review for this deal, I called the contractor about a month ago. I left a voicemail and the contractor promptly returned my call. He asked if I would like to have the design done or a refund of $75. I said I would like the refund at this point. I have yet to receive that $75 refund and have not heard back from the contractor since.

Description of Work: Many months (4-6) ago we purchased a "Big Deal"for remodel plans. Someone came out and measured and discussed ideas, etc with us. I called Roger for an estimate on a bathroom remodel. He was quick to meet with me and assess the room, and he had the bid (which was very resonable) to me within a few days. He was very helpful and knowledgeable, and his professionalism was impressive. Although I ended up not needing his services at this time, I would definately consider him in the future.

Roger came out to our house and reviewed what we wanted. He was very helpful and gave us ideas to think about. In the end, we made the final decision on the design and he made it reality. His team did a beautiful job and we are very happy with it. They were also very respectful in our home. Roger is a great guy to work with, we would recommend him to anyone.

I had said it's no hurry because I know how busy contractors are. But they NEVER contacted me. Now when I call Roger he says he's not available for seven months and blames me for the delay up til now, saying I didn't know if I wanted the work done. It would be ridiculous to call a contractor when I didn't want any work done. I called him several times to say that the cabinetmaker hadn't called me yet and then that the electrician hadn't called me. I can't even get STARTED with this contractor. My grade for him therefore is F.

We had other companies out to give an estimate for remodeling our kitchen and were given very limited options. Affordable Design Builders gave us several beautiful options that we didn't think were possible, and a great price to boot. They are also very well connected to resources which helps them to give a good price and more options. Although we were not able to move forward at the time, we would recommend them. They even re-imbursed our $75. When our cash flow situation improves, we will definitely be calling them to do the work.

We originally contacted Roger the week before Labor Day. He informed us that he was very busy and that we would have to wait until the following week to communicate with him. I was under the impression that he would call us back, but perhaps he said for us to call him back, but either way that is a mute point. I called again on 9/17 as we wanted to set up an appointment. He then said that he was very busy this week and that he would have to "squeeze us in between jobs next week" when talking to him, and that I should send him an email detailing what we had discussed over the phone, which was basically we needed a bathtub replaced and whatever remodeling work would be needed to get this accomplished. I then sent an email on 9/17at 5:13PM per the tracking on Angies list to him. To this date I have not had any follow up emails or phone calls from Roger. The lack of common courtesy to just contact us and let us know if he was interested or not, perhaps we were "too small of a fish" for what he normally does, was very unprofessional. Perhaps he does indeed do good work, but I would not recommend him. We have wasted over 2 months on this project, first time trusting someone who totally fell through, who was recommended from Menards to trying someone on Angies list with good reviews w/o any success. Perhaps the third time is a charm as we are trying someone else on here with good reviews

Roger did an excellent job of designing and installing our travertine tile backsplash. He was punctual, professional and offered great design ideas and suggestions when we needed advice or were unsure of our color selections. When Roger arrived to begin tile installation, we quickly realized that the tile pattern we had selected would not fit well in our kitchen. Rather than re-schedule or install something we would not be happy with, Roger went out of his way to make a special trip to the tile shop. He worked directly with the tile shop manager and my wife to select a custom tile pattern that would fit and look much better than our original selection. He ended up working late over the next two days to complete the job to our satisfaction. There was quite a bit more tile cutting and fabrication required with this new pattern... and it turned out GREAT! Thanks Roger for a job well done! Jeff & Kathie

The installation of the tile was more complex than it looked. Roger had to do a lot of cutting around windows and cabinets but everything looks great! Roger really went above beyond what I asked him to do....I hired Roger to install glass tile in my kitchen and he ended up hooking me up with a painter, an electrician, installing my microwave and fixing my ceiling!
Description of Work: Contacted Roger to inquire about the advertised kitchen back splash deal. Roger promptly replied to my email. Although we didn't stay within the parameters of the advertised deal, Roger made us aware of the options that were included in the deal, cost options and alternatives based on our ideas. Roger didn't try to up sell us on different options. In fact, Roger continued to remind us of cost conscience options. Roger also helped us out with some other repairs while he was over doing the tile. These other repairs included: patching the ceiling, installing a microwave, installing bead board around the window. Roger even helped us find an electrician and painter as well! We are very pleased with ALL of the services that Roger provided and intend to leverage his services next month when we remodel our bathroom!

I really wish that I didn't have to give this rating because it seems like Roger does good work from the reviews that are out there from other customers. That is why we contacted him to begin with. The reason for my rating is, Roger is the one that set up a time and date to meet us through an e-mail that he sent us. I responded saying, that would be okay. He never showed up, but called later and asked if we wanted to schedule an appointment with him? The only reason this is not an "F" is that he did send us an apology.

We are so pleased with the end result! Roger sent out his business partner, Steven, to help with the countertop decision. Steven was so helpful along every step of the way. The granite is a huge improvement in our kitchen, as is the stone backsplash that Roger installed after the countertops were in place. We didn't know to expect gaps in our counters underneath the granite, but found out that is common. Roger is helping us with trim that will fit in great and should be installed soon. We didn't have a deadline for when the work needed to be done, and they were about two weeks behind schedule from when we received the estimate, but that didn't bother us. Both Roger and Steven were so great to work with! We plan to use this company again when we are ready to update our next space and highly recommend them to anyone.

We had an excellent experience. An upcoming family visit caused us to suddenly consider the bathroom project. The problem was, we only had 6 weeks start-to-finish. We looked up Angies List and got in touch with the top 3 rated remodelers. For Affordable Design Builders & Remodelers , we bought the $75 design coupon - to ensure that the company knew we were serious. Roger from Affordable... responded promptly and punctually to our call, and we discussed various design options. After discussions and quotes from all 3 companies, we went with Roger since his quote was competitive (#2 out of the 3 received, but included much better options such as travertine tiling and custom cabinetry). He also seemed (and has proven) very good to work with, and gave us the highest confidence that the job would get done in the time available. During the bathroom discussions, we mentioned that we eventually wanted to build a bar on the other side of the wall of the bathroom. Roger suggested (without being pushy) that it may be best to do both together since plumbing for the bathroom and bar could be handled at the same time. We liked the idea but were concerned if it were possible to do both in the time allowed (by this time, post-quote approval - 5 weeks!). Esp. since we had a unique bar design in mind. Roger brought in his custom cabinet maker to have a look, and within a couple of days we had decided to do both projects in parallel. Again, the overall experience was excellent - the project was done on time and for a reasonable cost. Importantly, the project period was pleasant and we had pleasant interactions with all involved. Roger works with a team of contractors, each of whom seems to have worked with him for a very long time. Everyone - the sheetrock removal person, the plumber, the electricians, the cabinet maker and installation team, the granite supplier - were pleasant, punctual and responsive. Roger handled all the tile cutting and installation himself, as well as some plumbing for the bar. We would get together almost daily with Roger and identify what we needed to do to keep the project on time (select tile, plumbing fixtures, paint color, etc), and we focused on staying off the critical path. Roger and his team did just a great job in both quality of work as well sticking to the schedule. Along the way, there was the occasional hitch, but it was always resolved quickly & amicably. For example, there was an error in the stain used on the custom vanity, and we spotted that after the vanity was already installed. When we pointed that out to Roger, he just shook his head, said it will be taken away and redone the following day - and it was. Minor modifications to the plan or materials were never an issue - Roger just has a can-do attitude, and accommodated all requests in a very positive way. He went out of his way to hunt down the right fixtures to match some of our choices, just to address the aesthetics of the bathroom. As a testament to the comfort level we felt with Roger and his team, the project expanded in minor ways along the way - slide-out shelving for the kitchen, repainting the front of the house, having Roger obtain mirrors for the bathroom and bedrooms, etc. To summarize - an excellent experience. We were satisfied with the work, price and the interactions with Roger and his team. The project has resulted a good friendship, and we will be getting together for a beer at the new bar soon!
Description of Work: We had an unfinished room in the basement converted to a bathroom(~$14k). We added a bar to the family room (~$9k). We also installed slide-out shelves throughout the kitchen ($1k). Conversion of unfinished room in basement to bathroom: First, the bathroom had to be designed. With consultations with Roger from Affordable Design Builders & Remodelers, we decided on a large tiled bathroom stall, custom vanity, toilet, and tiled floor.Various plumbing connections were added or moved. Sheetrock was removed and electrical connections added. A floor was poured for the shower stall, and fairly detailed tile work done on the shower stall. The tile used was travertine. Glass sides and door were installed on the shower stall. Custom beechwood vanities were designed and obtained. The bathroom door had to be moved to accommodate the design, and hence the hallway had to be repainted. Bar in family room: We added a custom bar with granite tops, custom beechwood cabinetry, slide-out shelves with dimmable lighting, back-splash tile, and a large open shelving area with dimmable lighting in the ceiling. Slide-out shelves in kitchen: This was a spur-of-the-moment addition, while the above were ongoing.

Communication with was unprofessional; consisting mainly of typo-ridden emails. I never got a formal quote, no rendering (pretty standard with the huge variety of CAD soft ware available), or a receipt. Roger also tried to charge me $250 for the sink cut out when the deal I bought said ALL labor was included. And I asked for the cutout (it's part of the slab I bought) but they didn't give me that either! Needless to say, I would NEVER recommend these guys to anybody. (And I am also wondering why I paid $29 for Angies List).
Description of Work: We bought an Angie's Deal for an up to 40 sq ft. quartz counter top in February. After much difficulty we finally set a time to have counter top measured; we knew that we would be over the 40 square feet by a bit (4 to 6 feet or so). The measurements he came up with were way, way off and the upcharge would have been over $900. After haggling-and a reminder that my husband is an architect & we are experienced remodelers-he finally had someone named Steve come and re- measure; his measurement pretty much matched ours. We were told what out install date our be and given a time window of 12-2pm. The installers were about three hours late and finally left by about 7:30. In going over the new countertop, I discovered that it doesnt cover a small section near the refrigerator. When I asked Steve about it, he said that he had an extra piece and could fix it. Well, it is now August 19, I have a countertop that doesn't quite cover a section of my cupboard, and (surprise!) neither Steve nor Roger will return my phone calls. I contacted Angie's List to see what they could do-after all, they are who I paid-and the answer was nothing; they would do NOTHING to help.

We remodeled our kitchen before moving into a new home. We were looking for someone that could help us with some design work and initially that's what we purchased through Angie's list was the design concept. We were looking for a contractor that was willing to work with us as we wanted to do some of the work ourselves to save on cost and we needed the project done quickly. Over all our experience was good. After a few rounds we were able to go forward with a design and the services provided included fitting and building new cabinets that we installed ourselves. We worked with a cabinet company and counter specialist to get the desired look we wanted. The cabinets were finished with the desired staining and hardware. New sink, faucet, and backsplash were also installed. We've gotten nothing but compliments for our kitchen and it looks like a higher end kitchen for the cost. Other miscellaneous projects have included 2 new exterior doors installed and removing the popcorn texture from our ceiling and replacing with a knock down texture, which looks much better!
Description of Work: Remodeled our kitchen, including new cabinets countertops, sink and backsplash. We also had 2 exterior doors replaced at different rental homes.

Roger and his crew were very accommodating. We purchased a Big Deal for Quartz countertops. The stone color we picked out was a higher end color, but because of a mistake made on Roger's part in pricing it out, he did not charge extra and covered the cost himself. His subcontractor came and measured the cabinets for the countertop and made some minor design suggestions that we went with. They also cut the sink base cabinet so we could install the largest sink possible in what was a somewhat small cabinet. I was very happy with that. Then Roger installed the backsplash tile. There were a few tiles I thought could have been cut more cleanly, but overall a very good job. When our faucet came loose about a month later, Roger came back and fixed it right away with locktite--he said the looseness probably resulted from a cheap plastic nut that came with the faucet and that if it came loose again he would come back and put a metal nut on instead.Great deal for the price!
Description of Work: We hired Roger and his subcontractors to install quartz countertops, a sink and garbage disposal, and a travertine backsplash.
