I was preparing to mow my lawn when I was stopped by Gustavo Barreda who wanted to speak to me about my roof. He said he noticed a few of my shingles were not lying quite flat against the roof and that his firm could do an estimate and repair it. I told him I had no time to talk because of the lateness of the day in getting started with my mowing and that I do not do business in this way. I told him anyone I hire is chosen after researching their reputation on Angie's List. He said they are on Angie's List. He asked to leave literature on my front step. I believe he was in my neighborhood to solicit homeowners into considering hiring his firm to effect repairs on their homes, since portions of the area were very hard hit with storm damage. However, I was home during the storm and noticed no hail, excessive wind, nor any other damage. I lost a few petals from the oldest blooms on my tulips, which could be expected under mild rain and wind. Upon looking at the materials left by Mr. Barreda, It became clear that the firm he represents only does business after a homeowner sustains storm, flood or fire damage. They appear to act as an intermediary between homeowner and the homeowner's insurance company. It appears that they either also do the repairs themselves or hire a subcontractor to do the repairs. Since in my case, I do not believe any roof damages are due to the recent storm, but rather to the ravages of time, I believe this company was encouraging me to file a fraudulent claim for roof repair or replacement with my homeowner's insurance company. I also was unable to find any other reports on Angie's List concerning this firm. Such dishonesty does not encourage me to ever consider doing business with such a company.
