Sunflake did a great job getting my 1940s home up to code for rental certification. They had great suggestions to keep it affordable and everything turned out great. Would highly recommend.

Initially we planned to take our terrible experience with Sunflake Electrical as a “life lesson” as first time homeowners. After sharing our experience with other contractors & employees of Home Depot (just to ensure our dissatisfaction was warranted) they recommend we make our negative experience public so others don’t go through the same thing. After researching on Home Advisor & seeing many positive reviews we decided to hire Sunflake Electrical to perform some basic electrical work around our home. Main issues: o Exhaust Fan – installed but the hole was cut too large for the new fan. The electrician admitted to cutting a hole despite strategically purchasing the new fan based on existing opening size. o Kitchen Light – we did not purchase the correct light in advance & told the electrician not to proceed with installation. While at Home Depot getting other supplies he proceeded to install a non-approved light fixture, leaving us with an off centered light fixture. As the icing on the cake, we are also left with a jagged opening next to the off centered light fixture we did not choose. o Lastly, if the installation of other services would have gone smoothly, it would have also been easier to look past the mess we were left to clean up. • We shared the photos with the owner and he felt the electrical work had been done properly, and would be happy with the work in his own home. SEE PHOTOS. • We gave the owner multiple opportunities to “make this right” but his solution was for us to pay another one of his employees a flat rate of $250 to fix the two jagged holes. We are left with a jaded outlook on anyone coming to our home to complete repairs. Bottom line, avoid Sunflake Electrical!
Description of Work: Our home needed some basic electrical work (new bathroom exhaust fan, kitchen sink light fixture & outlet upgrade).

Response from Sunflake Electrical and Remodeling
I think the problem with this job was communication. The customer asked to provide their own parts. We are totally fine with that at Sunflake. I spoke with them on the phone and asked lots of questions in order to guide them to make the correct purchases. The beginning call, the customer initially stated we would be "replacing" a bathroom exhaust fan, upgrading a couple outlets to gfci, and changing a sink light to a can. He stated that they had access above the fan through a crawl space to remove the fan from above. We scheduled the work for the following day in order to give the customer time to collect the parts. We arrived within our time window at 8:15 am. Our electrician inspected the fan and determined that he would not be able to remove the fan through the crawl space. It was too small to fit a body in there and remove the fan properly. We would have to proceed with removing the fan from below. In order to remove a fan, you must enlarge the hole because the fan box is larger than the vent opening for the fan. Our electrician cut the hole as small as possible in order to limit the size of the opening. The new fan purchased was smaller than the old fan. Our electrician moved the new fan to one side so that only the one edge would need to be patched instead of have a gap along all 4 sides so the fan wouldn't seal properly. This makes it much easier for patch work to be completed. During the install, we noticed that the fan was not ducted. Most electricians would stop and make you get an Hvac contractor and a roofer in order to get the vent installed and the duct work attached. We proceeded with the install, completed the roofing work and installed the duct work for them. Once the fan was completed, our electrician cleaned up the drop cloth that he had initially laid out and began cleaning the bathroom. The husband said that he could clean the rest, so we proceeded to start the installation of the light. The initial location of the light was on the way outside edge of the home. The eaves drop very rapidly on this home leaving very little room for movement of the fixture and limits the type of fixture. Due to the roof, a recessed can fixture would not work. There is a fixture called an LED Disk light which gives you the same look, but without needing the same depth. While the lady was at the store looking for other fixtures our electrician completed the gfci installations and didn't want to just be standing around waiting, so began to center the light as best as possible. Due to the flex wiring and tight framing in the location, he was unable to center it perfectly, but was able to center it substantially better. Due to having to move the fixture, there would need to be a little sheetrock repair. Again, we were able to position the fixture to make the repair as easy as possible. The lady customer then returned from the store, our electrician asked what she thought of the light, she didn't say anything negative about the install. They agreed to keep the light that we had installed while she was away. Our electrician cleaned up and got out. We installed a full fan including ducting and roof venting, 8 gfci outlets, and provided a light fixture while changing box locations. Total bill for these services since they paid for hourly electric work was under $600. If this job was bid previously, the same work without drywall patching would have been about $900. Due to the customer provided fan that was too small to cover the initial hole, and needing to change locations to properly fit the light in, there needed to be drywall repair. If it had been a mistake on our part, we would have fixed the drywall no questions asked. This was not our fault that drywall repair was needed. After several hours, the customer sent a text with the complaint and pictures. I spoke to our electrician who was on site and responded similarly to how I responded above. I offered to fix the drywall at my cost (repairs take a long time to complete due to drying time needed for sheetrock mud). We would fill the hole, top coat the drywall, texture it, and paint it for $250. Again, they paid for hourly electrical work-and are complaining about the need for drywall repair. They didn't see that as an acceptable remedy, I didn't see completing it for free as an acceptable remedy, so they proceeded to write negative reviews everywhere possible for this small job that we feel we went above and beyond for. I do apologize for the misunderstanding, but still stand behind our electrical work as a job well done. There are several times that it is impossible to complete a remodel wiring project without effecting drywall. This was one of those times. The customer cannot understand that, I feel we offered a fair remedy, and the main reason for their dissatisfaction was from the small fan that they provided. Hopefully an intelligent consumer realizes the excellent value they received on this job and gives us a chance to earn their business.

This is the most responsive hire we have had. They return calls and emails ASAP. They got out within a day to do work needed on a rental we were selling...and I also requested some work at our own home. I did not anticipate that they would do the same day and they did. Very professional, and did not waste any time at all. Loved the amazing service and work!!!
Description of Work: We had them update outlets at a rental we were preparing to sell. We also used them the same day to add 2 outside outlets, upgrade all outside outlets with new boxes, and replace our outdoor motion light.

Required the service panel to be relocated in basement do to remodel work. Jake, of Sunflake recommended 2 possible locations that would meet electric code. I suggested a third location that I would prefer to have it installed at. Questionable if the location would meet code. Jake took pictures of the area, emailed them to the inspector, called inspector to discuss my request of location, when inspector could not authorize location without seeing it, Jake arranged to meet inspector at house to confirm the location of service panel location. This was all performed on Jakes time, nearly unheard with contractors. Inspector approved of the location, and the project moved forward and was completed to my satisfaction. I would us Sunflake again as a contractor.
Description of Work: Re-located electric service panel box to another room.
