When the technician arrived, he looked at the dishwasher and told me what I already knew - I had a broken part. However, he didn't have the part with him, and so he charged my wife $331 to order the part. He indicated the $331 would cover the installation of the part as well.
I later spoke with a manager to let him know my frustration. I did not need someone to come to my house to diagnose a problem I knew I had. I needed them to bring the part I needed and install it. He indicated that technicians can't possibly carry all parts for all dishwashers, which I can understand. However, I very specifically asked the person who took my call if they could install that part. He went on to insinuate that I was stupid by telling me that many customers think they know what's wrong with their appliance, but really they don't and therefore, the technician needs to diagnose the problem themselves. However, the technician did not find anything different than what I told the person who took my call. I indicated to the manager that I did not think the person who took my call was up front as to the process the technician would go through and that they would be able to do what I was asking them to do (bring the part I needed). I went on to request the breakdown of the cost they were charging me from the manager, and he refused to tell me. He indicated that they tell their customers that they charge a flat rate when the appointment is booked. I replied that the person on the phone told me no such thing. He essentially called me a liar and told me that he sits next to the people that take the scheduling calls and that they always tell everyone. The manager was incredibly rude, saying things to me like "I'm sure you could run this company better." Clearly, this company does not care about their customers or providing quality service.
The experience was not pleasant as he really didn't take the time to see what was wrong with the oven first.
I can't help feling like I got off lucky after only paying for the service call.
Chad said he had the part in his vehicle. In less than 10 minutes the oven was fixed. Chad presented us with the bill for $477.10 which we paid by check. There was no itemization on the bill. He then gave us a lecture about how using the self-cleaning feature on the oven is a very bad thing because the high heat damages the igniter. In less than 20 minutes, he was out the door.
After he left, I remembered that I had subscribed to Angie's List. So I pulled up the reviews on ARI. Seems others had had the same experience. My husband then looked up the cost of the ignitor on the internet. Approximately $86! So that leaves $391 for labor for less than a 5 minute task. While we appreciated the fast reponse and repair, we would never call ARI again. In fact, my husband now knows how to replace the ignitor and he will be replace any future parts.
I will never again forget that I subscribedo Angie's List!
