I contacted Bryan Rabe Construction to discuss a deck quote. He came out and gave my a very competitive quote. I had never used their company before and another review on here was not very positive but I couldn't of had a different experience. We needed the deck done in time for my father-in-laws surprise birthday party and they were able to get in done right on time even with the inclimate weather. The deck even came in below cost. They were very professional and great to interact with. I will definitely refer Bryan Rabe Construction to friends and family and will reach out to them next winter when I look to tile a few floors. Thanks again for the great looking deck!
Description of Work: I contacted Bryan Rabe Construction to discuss a deck quote. I was looking for a 15x15 deck but after my consultation I was informed I could do a 16x16 for the same price. We opted for a cedar deck with aluminum spindals.

I have to say that I honestly believe the design of our deck was too complicated for this contractor to correctly complete. Unfortunately, I believe he saw this in the middle of building it and he walked. Due to this, my wife and I were left with removing improperly installed Azek decking, correcting multiple errors with the frame he built, and correctly reinstalling new decking. His mistakes cost me over $3,500. This is just in materials and not taking into account labor. The Azek decking boards he installed had to be removed and trashed due to not following manufacturer?s installation guidelines. The frame that he built did not properly allow for the picture frame. There would have been many areas of decking without any support. He attempted to provide structure for the picture frame, but his measurements were all off. This was due to not taking into consideration decorative cedar all along the rim joist. Oh and speaking of the decorative cedar, he did not listen to what we wanted and put up something totally different. My wife and I did not say anything and just accepted it at the time. He walked before the stairs were started, but the opening where they were to start was all in place according to him. Well, that entire section of the deck frame had to be torn out and completed correctly. This was done in order to have a wide enough staircase and one that is aesthetically appealing to the eye. This also involved pouring a new footing. The 2x12 joists don't sit on the outer ledger board (I hope I am calling that the correct name). There are tied in with hurricane brackets with anywhere from a 1/8"-1/2" gap. I don't understand why they don't sit on the ledger board, nor did the inspector or multiple other professionals in the business. The 2x12s where the actual decking material was placed were not sanded to ensure a level deck floor. We would have had a very uneven floor to our deck. Talking with numerous siding people and other general contractors the siding should have been tied in differently or constructed differently around the ledger board. I hope I don't have issues down the road!! The list goes on and on... I will never again hire or recommend this person to anyone due to lack of professionalism and poor craftsmanship. I saw the red light when he stated he does not have written contracts, but still went with him. Yes, very stupid I know. I saw another red light when I saw the first two footings he poured. I should have stopped him right there!! Live and learn. My wife and I have completed our non wavy deck on our own with the advice and help from other PROFESSIONAL contractors and it has passed final inspection. We are now enjoying it and have the decorative cedar we originally specified. I have to say there is one thing he did do correctly and that was to refer us to another company to have the railings completed. That company did a great job!!
Description of Work: They were to build a deck on the back of our home.
