I've sat down to write this review several times before, and we had such a bad experience with this company that I have not been able to finish. -Owner was friendly at first, but in subsequent conversations both over the phone and when he showed up on our doorstep unannounced, actually yelled at myself and my husband. He actually did apologize one day for yelling at me the previous day, citing family problems (so this is not just me being overly sensitive - he really did yell at us). -told me he couldn't hear me when we were speaking over the phone (I think he is a little hard of hearing), but when I tried speaking louder, he told me angrily that I was being rude and accused me of yelling at him. -finished the initial work a few days earlier than expected and got angry and made unannounced trips to my house to collect payment. We had scheduled the money we needed to pay him to be transferred to an account we could write a check from (since that was the only form of payment he accepted) on time to pay by the date it said in our contract that payment would be due, but he was very angry that we did not have payment ready on the day he showed up and told us it was finished earlier than expected and he wanted, with no advance notice, to be paid right that minute. -on one trip to our house mentioned above, he laid into me about how much money it had cost him in gas for his huge pickup truck to drive all the way over to our house to pick up the check, even though he hadn't even told me he was coming. -during a phone conversation either about payment (see above) or seal coating (see below), he actually told me he was disappointed in me. This is not the way to talk to a customer. -saw me talking to one of the workers he had working for him on our driveway, and told me the worker was untrustworthy and ordered me not to talk to him. A homeowner should be able to talk to anyone who is doing a job at their house, and a business owner should not hire workers he doesn't trust, much less tell the client that. -Only seal coated half of the driveway after it was done, citing bad weather. Promised, and wrote a contract stating, that he would do the other half of the seal coat the next summer for free (not really free, as we had already paid for it, it just hadn't been done). It took us all summer to get him to come out and do the second half and at the end he tried to talk us out of it, saying we should really wait another year and just pay him to do the whole thing at once. -Verbally told me and my husband on separate occasions that he would do the first seal coating for free, then got angry and, surprise, yelled at us, and called us liars, when we told him what he had told us. This may have been the occasion on which he told me he was disappointed in me. I don't expect work for free, unless I have been told multiple times that it will be free, then I do expect it to be free. -Quality of work is shoddy and we will have to spend several thousand dollars more next summer having part of it torn out and redone. Needless to say, we will not be working with him again. -Quality of work: he failed to notice on his original inspection that our driveway has a significant slant towards the house, and water runoff in that direction would be a problem. He dealt with it by creating a big dip in the driveway and digging an ugly trench into our lawn. The dip was so big that our cars bumped the ground when we drove over it, so we asked him to modify it before it was paved. This is the first occasion on which he yelled at us. After driving over it himself, in his big truck, he admitted that even in that vehicle the dip caused a problem, and modified it. The water does not run towards our house, but it does pool up in the driveway there. -Quality of work: the weed killer was not applied or not applied thoroughly enough at certain parts of the driveway and even by the next spring several weeds had broken through the surface of the driveway. -Quality of work: the depth of asphalt promised and written into the contract was not met in certain parts of the driveway, and those parts were already turning into little piles of rubble after only two years. We have a few acres and he asked if he could dump the dirt dug from our driveway on our land. We told him that would be all right. After the work was done, we realized that he had dumped the dirt, and also piles of unused asphalt. We were so tired of dealing with him that we did not call and ask to have it removed. In view of the communications above, I just wanted to never have to talk to him again at that point. -He was so wedded to the idea that he wouldn't raise the price he quoted us "like those other companies do" that he refused to consider making any significant improvements to the work because he would have had to charge us more, even though we would have been happy to pay more for additional work. -I had asked early on if he would be able to dig a strip out on either side of the driveway (maybe 2-3 feet, I don't remember anymore) for me to use as flower border, since he was here with the equipment. We discussed it, he said it would be no problem and wouldn't cost anything since they would be essentially digging there anyway to dig out the driveway before paving it. He did not do this, so I just let it go, not a big deal. He did leave the edge along the driveway ragged in spots, with anywhere from 6 inches to about a foot and a half of our lawn dug out and not covered with anything at different points along the driveway. I figured I could cover it with something myself, and it wasn't worth bothering him about, since we had discovered that he was not very responsive to even major things like the driveway's surface not being smooth enough for our cars to drive across well. Then, when he was arguing with us towards the end of the job, he started talking about maybe charging me for the border he claimed he had dug along the driveway! He had never once mentioned the "border" he had not dug, until the point at which he suggested charging me for it. I do not recommend working with this very unprofessional man. I can totally believe the reviewer that said he had a short pleasant experience with him. Had our initial experience with him not been pleasant, we would never have hired him, but he was unprofessional, his behavior and demeanor were erratic, and we did not get a good product.
Description of Work: Paved our long circular driveway and small parking area. It had previously been a gravel driveway and parking area.

We were very disappointed because we waited 2 weeks during some cancellations he made. He called and scheduled and rescheduled. Then he never called back-we were waiting at home, we had to call him. He simply said he is doing no more sealcoating for the year. We asked him why he agreed to take the work and suddenly quit? He refused to discuss it.
Description of Work: Hired to sealcoat driveway. And the neighbors driveway. He cancelled 2x. The last cancellation he never called. We had to call him to find out where he was. He said he is done for the year doing sealcoat. We asked when he would be here to do the jobs- he said he is done and will not discuss it.

When he answered the phone he did not identify himself nor did he mention the company I had to ask if this was Saline Asphalt Paving. I had a hard time hearing what he was saying because the back ground noise sounded like he was taking a shower. I told him I was looking for someone to pave six foot wide bike path. His response was we don't do that work on six foot paths???. A hang up as I would have asked about sealcoating streets and our bike paths but that Saline man was gone as he did not identify himself I don't know who I was speaking to. The last question on the review asks how old is the house. Its not one house its pike paths for 319 homes totaling 2.3 miles and 3.2 miles of streets for sealcoating. There are other contractors that will be interested in repairing pike baths if this contractor counldn't do the paths he might have been interested in the seal coating work but I didn't get a chance to ask the question.
Description of Work: He did nothing because this was just a question with a answer from Saline.

The bid price was substantially lower than the other bid I received. The quality of the work appears to be very good. But here were several delays and last minute no-shows during the course of the job. While it was only two days of work (one to tear out old, one to install new) the whole process took a number of weeks. Overall the company delivered good value and took good care in putting in the driveway but the numerous delays were aggravating.
Description of Work: They removed and replaced the asphalt driveway at my home.

Bob swung by to give us an estimate shortly after I requested it. He quoted me $195 and indicated that they were able to start the following day, weather permitting. They came out a day later and completed the resurfacing within an hour. Bob and his son completed the work themselves and took care to protect the side of our house and garage from getting any splatters. They didn't even flinch when we set up our lawn chairs because our 2-1/2 year old wanted to watch them work! Bob was a super nice guy - will definitely look him up when we need this work done again.
Description of Work: Resurfaced our driveway which is a bit long for a typical neighborhood (I think around 900 sq ft?). This was during the main summer season (vs. fall when driveway resurfacers might offer discounted prices).
