Description of Work: Tried to get a bid for our kitchen, we got our initial drawings and then nothing when we submitted revisions. We never were able to get a price. I called when we started looking at the bathroom addition but it took them over a month to call back, after we had given the project to another. I am glad we did.

Response from HWC Home Works Corporation
HWC has a No-Pressure/No-Obligation sales process. HOWEVER - we needed to have SOME here. We did not produce a timely estimate. Plain and simple we dropped the ball. Our Sales Rep screwed this up by not staying in touch with this prospective customer, as he has been trained and instructed to do. It is not acceptable to her nor is it acceptable to HWC. The volume of quotes that the Sales Design team has been working on recently has been at record-setting numbers for months. Jobs have gotten larger and a bit more complex. That's the good news. The bad news is that the volume of quotes that the Sales Design team has been working on has been at record-setting numbers this year. Jobs have gotten larger and a bit more complex. It has caused a few back-ups in their quoting efforts. Our reps are trained to stay in communication with each prospective customer and if they make a decision that HWC may not be able to handle the proposed job, meet the project deadlines or for any other reason will not be able to produce a complete, binding proposal, they are supposed to communicate that to each prospective customer immediately. HWC Sales Representatives are known for their totally NO-Pressure sales estimating process. This incident is having us re-instruct the Sales Design team to add a 'dash' of pressure to their process - just enough to get the estimate prepared and delivered in a timely and professional manner - and to communicate immediately if they are not able to do that. We have also recently added administrative staff support in the department as well as a new part-time Sales Rep to help us fix this issue. We apologize to this prospective customer for missing our chance to be of service to her on her project! In over 95% of our jobs that we do, HWC really does fantastic work for our Customers - I'm just sorry that, because of a lack of prioritizing on our part and that 'dash' of pressure that was missing, we weren't able to demonstrate that for her. This one is OUR Bad. Our Sales effort here deserves the low grade. I wish we could have done the work for her! - John Crawford, Business Manager

Description of Work: My husband and I were interested in this company based on all of the positive reviews we saw from Angie's list. I have to say I am actually very surprised and disappointed that we will have to be one of the first customers to write a negative review. I contacted HWC in September and had Mark come out to look at our home on September 17. He seemed very professional and interested in the project which included a new drop ceiling in our basement some drywall repair and gutters. We discussed what we would need in order to come up with the quote. We also discussed having it done before the holidays as I will be going back to nursing school in January. I emailed Mark the information we received from her insurance company on September 22 in order to get things started and have our quote completed. Then we waited. Finally on October 1 Mark emailed and apologized for the delay. He assured us it would be in before the end of the week. We had not heard anything by October 6 so I emailed him once again asking if there was anything he needed on our end. October 7 Mark replied and stated he should have it wrapped up by that afternoon. However we did not receive the quote. By this time I had also called the office in order to see if there was anything else we could do. We are assured that he knew about it and that he would get back with us shortly. On October 15 I sent him another email asking if perhaps the quote had been mailed as we had not received anything. Around this time I also contacted the manager concerned that we were falling behind and may not get the project done in time. John Crawford also assured us that mark would get back to us. Finally on October 20 I sent Mark an email just asking him to let us know if he was just too busy to take on the project and that we would really just appreciate his honesty. He responded on October 23 and indicated this was the case. He also apologized which we appreciated. My husband I were disappointed that we spent so much time and energy and feel like we lost a month just trying to connect and get our project started. Hopefully this is not the case for other couples in the future.

Response from HWC Home Works Corporation
I wanted take a few extra days to check in to this and review the situation before responding. What I learned was that we really 'stubbed our toe' on this one. If I was issuing a grade for how we handled this inquiry, I would also give us a 'D'. This whole thing was a surprise to me because normally we do such a great job at communications all the way through the entire process. Not so much this time! HWC in general and Mark in particular have both gotten extremely busy this year and it has been a challenge to keep up with demand. However, there really is no excuse for our failing to communicate in this case as we were going through this measuring and estimating process. We do have other people in the department that could have likely jumped in to lend a hand, but we didn't get them alerted to this project. Mark believed at those moments that it would take him longer to get one of his colleagues up to speed than it would be to keep on it himself. Other projects he was juggling simply got in the way of him being able to make his estimate happen in a timely fashion. He, too, sincerely apologizes for this episode. I understand that there is also an insurance element to the repairs being done here. Only about 2% of our jobs involve insurance repair work, but that might have been one factor that was just enough out of the ordinary that caused this inquiry to inadvertently get back-burnered at a very busy time for Mark. EVEN SO, that is still no excuse for the failure on our part to communicate what was (or was not) going on. Mark's decision to decline this quote because it was becoming apparent that we would not be able to successfully meet the installation timelines required should have been made much earlier and communicated much earlier to this Customer. We screwed this inquiry up and on behalf of Mark and the entire HWC team, I sincerely apologize to this great Customer. I'll also communicate directly with this Customer to help me close this file out on our end. I AM grateful to be alerted that this problem had arisen because it has given us the chance to review our entire process in the Sales Design Team and to tweak our procedures in an effort to make sure something like this doesn't happen again. Once again, HWC really screwed this one up and, while I deeply apologize to our Customer for this abnormal break-down in communicating, I also want to thank her for allowing us to dig in to review and improve our processes to avoid this type of situation in the future. It was one of the best, well organized companies I have dealt with! I emailed them to set up an appointment and Valarie called me the next day to come to the house. She was able to come out that week and was on time. She was obviously very experienced in this line of work. She gave me not only great ideas but stayed within my price range. They warned me they were five weeks out and would call a week before to confirm, which they did and actually started on the exact day they said they would. Jerry was right on time and diligently worked all day, cleaning up the mess before he left. He would also tell me what to expect the next day. The last day Jerry was out of town so Chris finished. I thought it may be a hassle because Jerry had been at my house all week. Chris took right over and knew exactly what needed to be done and told me he was staying until it was done. The project started on Tuesday and Finished on Friday just like they promised. A week later I got a thank you card in the mail. Love the whole crew and will use them again for sure. Tammy

I called and had a visit for ideas and an estimate within a day. Jeff had some great ideas and at a cost I could afford. The work was completed about 5 weeks after signing the contract due to ordering the material and getting me on the schedule. The main person I worked with was Chris, and he was great. He kept in contact with what was going on, and did a wonderful job. All the cabinets were removed, the bulkheads taken out, my ugly ceiling was redone and then the cabinets and backsplash put in. It's amazing the change in my little kitchen. There is so much storage now and it's so pretty. Definately will use this company again!

Description of Work: We remodeled our 1970's bathroom; new countertops, sinks, faucets, floor, tub and surround. They came on Wednesday and finished on Friday. They were all great and Don, the main carpenter, was really easy to work with. They informed us what was going on and the schedule all the way through. Very happy with the quality of workmanship. They also have a huge sample supply and you can choose whether you want good, better or best products so you can control the finished price.

All the people we worked with were very helpful and professional. They offered good ideas for design issues and product choices. Work was done on schedule. Daily cleanup was appreciated.
Description of Work: We have used HWC for several projects over a few years. They remodeled our basement which involved demolishing a bathroom and rebuilding it. They went over and beyond our expectations by incorporating laundry area shelving in space reclaimed from the bathroom redo. The project also involved replacing a worn drop ceiling and installing can lighting. We are very satisfied with the results. On another occasion, HWC refaced kitchen cabinets, re-laminated the counter-tops and tiled the back splash in a duplex we own. That project also included two bathroom tub/surround re-linings. Again, we are very satisfied customers. We will definitely consider using them again.

We decided to make our house just the way we wanted it by sacrificing one of our three smallish bedrooms in order to more than double the size of our master bathroom and nearly double the size of our master bedroom. We set a budget of $25k and began getting estimates in November. We received three estimates, all of which were within 10 - 15% of our budget. We selected HWC based on reading some good reviews on them. We also liked the fact that HWC coordinated the entire job, guaranteeing that the job would be completed before Christmas, which was key to us as we were having house guests during the holidays. I did all of the demo work during the last week in November and HWC began work on Dec 5. Tom from HWC was the carpenter andante did all of the beautiful tile work. We can't say enough about his skill, professionalism, and likability. We felt completely at ease having Tom in our house while we were gone each day. Not only was his work excellent, but he put up with our two huge dogs everyday. He kept us informed everyday regarding any and all issues and made sure he got our input whenever a choice had to be made. He also made a number of design suggestions throughout the job which turned out great. There is not one single detail of the work that Tom did that we don"t love. As for the schedule, well, they were close. With a week to go before Christmas, progress slowed with a couple of days where no one was here for the majority of those days. We called HWC and expressed our concern, reminding the sales guy and the owner of their commitment to finish the job by Christmas. They assured us that they would be putting two additional guys on the job for the remainder of the week. They made good on that claim, and we did have a bathroom with the essentials on Christmas, but it took two more days to finish everything. Not terrible, but can't give them an "A" either. The only other negative was that the final price was approx. 10% more than the original quote. This was due to three things: 1. A $400 beam that had to be installed where some closets had been removed, which it turns out were load-bearing. We asked the sales person during his original walk through about whether the walls that were being removed were load-bearing, and again on at least two other occasions, even pointing out that one of the other bids that we had received said that a beam was needed. He said no beam was required. Thankfully, no structural damage occurred during the week following the removal of the wall, prior to HWC realizing the issue and installing the beam. 2. I was told near the end of the job that the plumbing bill would be $900 more than what had been in the original quote, as they had "found" additional plumbing issues in the basement, such as an old iron vent pipe that had to be removed. My only issue with that was that this should have been included in the original estimate, as all of the relevant plumbing was right out in the open and easy to see. Then, during the final walk through of the finished job with the HWC owner and the salesman, I was informed that the contracted plumber had submitted a final bill to HWC for an additional $900! The owner seemed genuinely embarrassed about it, but hinted as tactfully as he could that he would really appreciate not having to eat the whole $900 himself. I was totally not comfortable with paying for a SECOND plumbing overage, particularly when no good reason was given for the overage. They asked if I would consider paying a third of it, with them and the plumber eating the other two thirds, to which I reluctantly agreed, although I did also request that in return perhaps HWC could install some shelves and hooks in the bathroom for us. They agreed and Tom spent a couple of hours on these installations. 3. The sales guy forgot to include the price of the shower door in the quote, although we had specifically discussed the door when we came into the HWC office to finalize the details of the job. The door therefore ended up being another add-on at the end, although to their credit, they did give it to us at cost. So, bottom line, we ended up paying for some things that were necessary, but they were things that could have and should have been in the original estimate, and if they had been might have caused us to make some different decisions up front. In the end though, the new bathroom and bedroom look far better than we could have imagined. We love our "new house" and couldn't be happier with how it turned out, thanks to Tom and the other skilled folks who made this happen. I feel that HWC is an honest and reputable company and the quality of the work they perform is second to none. I would definitely recommend them to anyone.

They did a beautiful job and were very easy to get along with. The people who they sent to do the work were absolutely unbelievable. They were here on 1st of May to give me an estimate and on the 8th of May they came and measured. I had it done on 4th or 5th of June. I have never seen such good workmanship and such politeness. They do plumbing work also. They are good people. Earlier they have put in a floor. I have nothing bad to say about the installation. The finished product was very good. The price was beautiful. They honoured the coupon even after the estimate. It was $500 coupon. They were on time with regards to punctuality. If I have anything more to do, I will definitely go to them.
Description of Work: I have used HWC – Home Works Corporation. I had an old iron chest taken out and a shower put in. It was cabinet to shower conversion. They did the doors, shower doors and everything. They have changed the drain in the basement and put in a PVC pipe for no extra charge.

We had a total kitchen remodel, tore out walls, floor, cabinets. installed new cabinets, island, floor and lighting.
Description of Work: We were very happy with the work HWC did in our kitchen remodeling. They coordinated every aspect of the job from the plumber, electrician, the granite counter top installer. It was like clock work someone was always there working, sometimes all of them at the same time. We had talked with several other kitchen remodeling companies and we would have been responsible for finding our own electrician, plumber, person to lay the floor, and set the granite. We wanted one person to deal with, and we found this in HWC. We had met with their designer and he gave us many ideas that we used. We will not hesitate to call them when we are ready to remodel our bathroom.

I signed a contract with a salesman who I was never to see or hear from again, even when I called him. Contract was for just over $6000 for a five day job. Each day price went up and time of job lengthened to almost 2 weeks. My house was uninhabitable. No precautions were taken to limit dust or damage. The final job in the bathroom is good. Unfortunately, I now need to re-paint my stairwell, hallway, and guest bedroom. HWC calls it "collateral damage." It is a term they never used before it occurred. They never even suggested such a thing could occur.
