From the very beginning in late October, the painting crew (2 young men) were efficient and worked carefully. They actually seemed very eager to communicate with us as to color, etc. They also tried to be as unobtrusive as possible, which is pretty difficult to do. After the painting was completed, the kitchen backsplash and the hardware.was done...it all went smoothly. The mirror in the powder room was installed. Next, the 2 upstairs bathrooms received new flooring, new countertops and mirrors Also, we had some ongoing minor items that needed attention such as loose towel bars. These were addressed in a timely fashion. We found Elliot to be a very careful craftsman and in turn was available to answer any questions and concerns we had. We do recommend this business to anyone who might have need for remodeling, and/or handyman tasks!
Description of Work: painting of first floor including powder room, all hallways and stairwells. (many required 2-3 coats). painting of 2nd floor; 2 bathrooms, 2 bedrooms, hallway and stairwell. Also removed old wallpaper from bathroom, prepped the wall. installed new kitchen hardware, back splash, painted cabinet edges. installed new lighting fixture in very high landing on stairway. replaced 2 bathroom countertops.replaced bathroom mirrors, tiled 2 bathroom floors.

A perfect "happy path" project. It took two days allowing for the grout to dry before it was sealed in the master bath. Elliot called each morning with his approximate arrival time. Everything was cleaned up well, and I now sort of have two new bathrooms!

Elliot was prompt, pleasant and easy to work with. He replaced about a 2.5 ft wide section section of drywall floor to ceiling plus a 4 ft wide horizontal section about 2 ft off the floor. He then had to match the 1950's swirl pattern of the plaster skim coat. I'm very happy with the finished work.
Description of Work: I had a L-shaped section of drywall to replace/repair, plus some other areas that needed smoothed out. The repair took about 3-4 days to finish in order to accommodate my work schedule and dry time for the drywall mud. The total cost was $190.50 plus the bonus deal which I think was $150 for 3 hrs labor. Quite a bargain for the work & time involved.

Elliott was incredibly responsive to initial and all subsequent requests made of him. His work is of the highest quality and his ideas for renovations improved upon our initial ideas, including the reconstruction of a master bedroom closet, placement of tile and innovative way of assuring good contact with fireplace vertical tiles. His recommended subcontractor to relocate a rec room sink drainage system was also excellent and he stayed to supervise the work to ensure it was correct. Overall, this has been our most satisfying experience with a contractor in our 20 years of owning this home. He will be the first on our call list for any future improvements.
Description of Work: Used Angies List special discount coupon, which allowed great savings. Cut away wood flooring from built-in cabinets; located and turned off shut-of valves to bar sink; removed marble threshold at bathroom entrance; removed and disposed of baseboard heater covers and end caps; removed 220 plug box and installed wire nuts; assisted helper in dismantling bedroom closet and removing debris from premises; removed large waste bag of concrete from work area; worked on pendant lighting; consulted customer on new bar layout and plumbing re-positioning; walk-in closet layout, and bathroom vanity replacement. Subsequent visit: Installed baseshoe (quarter round) in tv room; primed new closet.

We hired Levinsohn Restoration to repair damage done by woodpeckers (argh!!) to our home's exterior siding. The weather caused the initial repairs to be rescheduled but Elliott was very good about keeping in contact with us through out the process, which was much appreciated. After multiple trips, the repairs were made, siding painted and the house looks great. We'd be happy to have Elliott back (the woodpeckers aren't so welcomed!) and would hire Levinsohn Restoration, again, as well as refer the company to others for the quality of work performed, the communication maintained, his honesty and fair pricing.

Response from Levinsohn Restoration & Remodeling Co
I am sorry that this customer could not wait for a while to get her repair work done. Nevertheless, I do not recall telling this customer that it would take three months to perform her work. I do recall telling her that it may take at least a month and possibly more due to the large number of customers who purchased the 3 hour Big Deal coupons all at approx the same time period. And in addition to all the coupon repair requests, we also had several restoration-remodeling projects already scheduled or in progress on our summer calender prior to the coupons being purchased. A few of Angie's List coupon customers did wait from two to three months for us to complete their jobs, and as a result, were pleased with the quality of service that they received and glad that they waited. However, it is certainly not my desire as a business owner that any customer should have to wait more than a few weeks to get a small job completed, but unfortunately, this was not an ideal situation in an ideal world and several coupon customers did have to be very patient to get their work performed. On the positive side of this, several of the coupon customers hired us back to perform additional work at their homes, which has all been completed to their satisfaction. One of the lessons that I have learned from this experience (3 hour coupon purchases) is not to run this kind of special offer until our work has slowed down at the end of the year. I have never done this kind of special offer before and did not expect to get 20 responses all within a one month period. So all that said, I believe that we did the best job that we could do in lieu of the difficult scheduling demands that we had to deal with and the pressure to meet all of our customer's expectations..

We purchased a coupon on Angie's list for Mr. Levinsohn to complete 3 hours of handyman services. It was a challenge getting a start date as Mr. L had multiple people purchase these coupons and he evidently was finishing up some large remodeling projects. He was forthright in explaining this however, had I known prior to purchase I may have chosen someone else. About 10 weeks after purchase he was available. He is VERY detail oriented and does pristine work. His work is immaculate. He clearly takes his time and as a result is quite slow. I'd rather get a bid per project rather than per hour because of the time factor. He is very polite and professional. There were a few hiccups in arriving on time and scheduling a follow up visit, as the larger projects I believe took precedence over ours. He did call each time and fill us in on the delays. I would use Mr. L again, if time is not a factor and he'd consider a bid per project as mentioned previously.
Description of Work: Mr. Levinsohn did a variety of handyman services for us around the house.

Response from Levinsohn Restoration & Remodeling Co
I do agree that it took a long while to schedule this work due to my heavy summer work load and numerous (and unexpected) requests to perform Angie's List three hour coupon jobs. However, I readily disagree with this customer's assessment that my work was quite slow. I performed three individual projects for them: I installed a wallpaper border in there son's bedroom; I installed a drapery rod in the master bedroom; and I installed a ceiling light-fan combo in their son's bedroom. These three projects were time consuming for several reasons. The border had to be installed carefully to avoid damaging the previously painted walls; the ceiling fan had to be firmly secured to the ceiling as no fan was there previously, and the drapery rod had to be installed precisely in the correct position for the length of the drapes..all these jobs took different skills, tools and supplies. The first two projects actually took up the three hours covering the coupon purchase. The ceiling fan was an additional request that I had to return to install on another day as I did not have the time or all the equipment that I needed to do the install on the initial visit. Unfortunately, I believe that this customer had unrealistic expectations about the amount of time (and the degree of difficulty) it took to perform multiple unrelated projects. I also explained to them that I could provide bid pricing for other jobs that they might want performed and I actually submitted a bid (to install a garage service door and steps) for one of the job requests. Another request was to install a ceiling fan in the master bedroom where no electrical box existed in the ceiling and multiple wiring and fishing of wires would have to take place to perform this work and that I could do this work on an hourly basis, however, I did provide them with a realistic time frame in which I thought this job could be completed. I don't know of any licensed electrician's who would provide a bid for such a job with several unknown factors involved such as which way the ceiling joists are running, how the wire would fish through the ceiling, etc. All in all, I believe that the work I performed for this customer was executed with utmost efficiency, quality workmanship and professionalism in every respect.

Response from Levinsohn Restoration & Remodeling Co
Unfortunately, this customer had some unrealistic expectations, and evidently, did not heed my clear explanation prior to the work being performed that this would more than likely be a difficult and challenging job as I have installed several bath exhaust fans over the years and they are seldom quick and easy.. About two weeks prior to performing the work, I explained very clearly to this customer that this could easily be a one day job or more (more than likely) depending on the difficulties that I might encounter... I installed two ceiling bath exhaust fans at their home and one at there daughter's home several miles away. The first fan that I installed at their home needed to have the ceiling hole cut open larger, the wiring altered as the existing wiring did not reach the fan's internal junction box, and new stud bracing installed as well as modifying the exhaust port and flexible ducting connection-I also had to run to the nearest hardware store to get some electrical supplies. The second floor fan was accessible through the walk up attic but difficult to climb into over the attic trusses and several joist bays and a foot deep of blown in insulation. I did all of this in a very efficient and professional manner and was not in the least bit slow about getting it done-I was actually rushing to get the work done in the shortest amount of time as possible.. I also had to move several boxes and furniture to access to the attic and climb over a four foot wall to get into the attic. This fan also needed some serious retrofitting similar to the first fan as well as an additional wood box built around it in the attic to prevent the insulation from sucking into the fan motor and leaking into the bathroom. . also, both fans were difficult to remove from the ceiling as the two metal support braces (attached to the ceiling joists) that held the old fans in the ceiling were installed at original construction before the drywall was installed. The braces had to be carefully cut out with a sawzall so as to not damage the drywall ceiling. The fan installation at their daughter's home was just as difficult as the two in their home and the plaster ceiling around the old fan was crumbling and in bad disrepair. .I actually had to apply plaster compound to the ceiling where a large chunk fell out when I carefully pulled the old fan out of the ceiling (which I did as carefully as could be done). As mentioned previously, its unfortunate that this customer did not take heed to my initial instructions and formed expectations that were not realistic or sensible. I certainly wish there had been a way to make this installation go faster, but in retrospect, I do not believe that I could have done anything differently to make this job any faster or better workmanship than I provided. Additionally, the customer corrected me that I had billed her my regular hourly rate for the additional hours (beyond the three that they paid to Angie list). This was an inadvertent oversight on my part as I told her verbally that my hourly rate would be the discounted rate of $39 per hour, but by the time I typed up the invoice, I had forgotten that I had told her this. I don't typically offer an additional discounted hourly rate when my customer's are already getting the first three hours at a good discounted rate. However, I received her correction about this issue without any complaint on my part..All in all, I firmly believe that I performed this job with the utmost professionalism and proficiency and that any experienced contractor would have taken about the same (or perhaps more) amount of time to perform this particular job..enough said.

Absolutely perfect job. Could not have gone better.
Description of Work: I was the onewho gave Mr. Levinsohn such a bad review earlier this Summer. As it turned out, it was simply a problem with communication. Mr. Levinsohn and I were able to resolve the communication problem and he came over to do the work I originally wanted him to do. He was extremely courteous, professional, and met my expectations completely. At this time I would like to COMPLETELY RESCIND MY EARLIER CRITICISMS AND WHOLE HEARTEDLY ENDORSE MR. LEVINSOHN. I would completely and totally recommend him to anyone. I sincerely regret and take back my earlier comments. Please put him at the top of your list if you are contemplating getting some work done. He was a complete pleasure to work with!!!!!!

Elliot is among a rare breed of craftsperson who has the skills and integrity to do work with a level of care and perfection that are hard to find these days.He explained to me all the various options and potential challenges of the work I hired him for. His knowledge of paints, woods, materials, workmanship and aesthetics is impressive. His wife is an interior designer, so he brings an added talent to his work. I would say that Elliot is more than a "handyman." He is a craftsman who knows how to get the job done, and done right, above and beyond my high expectations.Elliot is a sole proprietor and does almost all the work himself, but when we needed an electrician, he referred me to a great electrician who was hard-working and honest. When you want to improve the value, safety and appearance of your home, Elliot is the person to turn to.
Description of Work: When you're looking for someone to help make your home look better and increase its value, you're fortunate to find someone like Elliot Levinsohn. This has been a leap of faith for us as we do not live in the same city where the work is being done, and we were relying completely on the feedback this company has received on Angie's list. Yet, from the preparation to the execution, the project has gone as well as we could have hoped. Everything we were told would happened did, and was done well and on time. Mr. Levinsohn has given us his expert opinion on what we wanted done, which has been invaluable in making decisions. As mentioned above, we have another month involved in this project as we wait for countertop, cabinetry, flooring and window treatments to arrive. In the meantime, another ceiling is being smoothed and painted, decks are being stained, and prep work for flooring and kitchen is underway. Trust, competence, and communication/relationship skills were the important traits I was looking for in a handyman for this job, and I got them all in Mr. Levinsohn . More feedback to follow when project is completed.
Description of Work: This has been a work in progress since July 1st, as we are doing a total rehab on a condo in East Lansing. Elliot Levinsohn spent countless hours responding to my many emails and phone calls in preparation and planning for this project. He did a walkthru with us to document all the myriad of items that we wanted done. He has always been more than responsive with calls and email replies. So patient too. It was obvious from the first day we communicated that he is competent and experienced in most areas of remodeling, at least all the areas we needed covered. Having a plan in place, and knowing the costs, has made the scheduling, implementation, and budgeting for the entire project go as smoothly as possible. At this point, Mr. Levinsohn has completed about 1/3 of the work, including smoothing and painting textured ceilings, replacing door hardware, installing GFIs; replacing light fixtures, and installing window hardware, and laundry tub. The other projects in plan include replacing carpet with hardwood, and refacing kitchen cabinets, drawers and counter top. Should be done with project by the end of August.

Elliot gave inspected the areas of the house (exterior) that we had noticed were rotting. He than inspected all of the exterior (at our request) and found additional rot. He gave us an estimated that was very reasonable. We told him that there was no hurry to get the job done. He scheduled the job at a specific date, showed up on that date and finished up in a timely manner. At all times he was courteous and explained exactly what was needed. He encouraged us to go with a more inexpensive option (plastic), which looks identical to the original wood.
Description of Work: We had severe rot on the post in our front porch, and also on some boards on the margins of our bay window. Elliot replaced the rotted wood, strengthened the support beam on the porch. He rebuilt one of the decorative post by cutting off the bottom and replacing it with a plastic, which looks identical to the original wood. He primed and painted all the effected surfaces. We also had Elliot do an examination of the exterior of the house for any other damage. Elliot was courteous and prompt. He always explained what he was going to do, and when possible, always suggested a lower-cost option.

I contacted Mr. Levinsohn via email and he responded the very next day. I explained my situation and he agreed to write a proposal which I received within the next week. The job has been completed from start to finish within a very reasonable time period and cost. His work is excellent. Mr. Levinsohn is a professional who does what he says. I believe that he went above and beyond the call of duty working his schedule around my renter's availability and even came back a second time to complete the job when my renter could not be home during the initial time alloted. The repairs are quite satisfactory and most importantly, my renters feel very comfortable with him doing repair work there. I appreciate knowing that I have a trustworthy repair man that can be counted on that does a great job at a reasonable rate. I plan on contacting him again if the need arises.
Description of Work: I needed to hire a general handyman - one that I could trust - to make small repairs (present and future) on a condo that I rent in Michigan as I live in a different state. My renters are brand new as well and I wanted to make sure that a good impression was made for being a landlord who takes care of things in the right manner. The upstairs bathroom fan needed to be replaced, a small crack in the basement wall repaired and new locks and deadbolts installed on the two outside doors.

This was not an easy project, but it turned out lovely. Elliot was extremely careful and precise - making sure to build not just a shelving unit but one where the grain was attractive and complimentary to what was around it. I ended up with works of art.
Description of Work: Elliot had previously installed a pre-assembled vanity. There remained an unfinished area as the original vanity was an unusual shape and was built into the wall and floor. Elliot build a beautiful shelving unit out of hickory to compliment the vanity which neatly covered up the holes in the wall and floor. He also built shelving nook to fill in the hole in the title left by the removal of an old heater. The two items make my bathroom positively beautiful and I couldn't be happier.

The repairs were done on two separate dates. When he promised to do the work, he came and completed everything without leaving until the job was complete.
Description of Work: Elliot came quickly to make an estimate. It was written and described the services he would perform. Dates were selected when the work would begin and he came as promised. The work was to remove and replace a section of ceiling damaged by a leak in the roof. The damaged drywall was removed with the insulation and hauled away. A new plaster board was installed, and painted to match. On the exterior, wood moldings around several windows and the roof vents were scraped, sanded and repainted.

After interviewing four other individuals, we chose Elliott to do our work. His knowledge and experience were immediately apparent and I felt comfortable with his description of what would be done, when, and for how much. He had great ideas and seemed to know exactly what I was looking for. I had a fairly limited budget and he came in a bit under. I was most impressed when he suggested adding a different chair rail and a baseboard to the room. He built both expertly and it really made the room shine. I enjoyed working with his wife, Marla, who is an interior designer. She helped me choose wall colors and the new ceiling lighting. All in all, I would recommend Elliott without hesitation.
Description of Work: We had our home office remodeled, taking it from dark wood and paneling to a bright, airy, and comfortable space.

He quoted $750 for wall paper removal and $1700 take out the closet. He was professional and on time. Everything was fine. I don’t think he could have done anything better. He came out and gave his estimate in writing.
Description of Work: The guy from Levinsohn Remodeling Co came out for an estimate in early June. The estimate was for wall paper removal and to take out the closet.

I contacted Elliot about installing the storm door. After he finished the two jobs he was then working on, he called me back and scheduled the installation. At the time, I had told him I had one or two smaller things to do. He inquired when he came as to what they were and promptly did them after installing the storm door. As I live alone and am older, this was a tremendous help to me.
Description of Work: Elliot installed a storm door for me and then did two smaller jobs. He was personable and professional. I will definitely use him again.
