Overall the experiece was better than I expected and plan to hire them again next year to plant new trees and bushes. I gave the price point a B just because I could have had it done cheaper from someone else but I believe you get what you pay for and cheap is cheap. We went with a mid point price, excellent customer service, on time and responsive company.

After the initial grading of the yard we felt it was too high in back. We expressed this issue to the contractor (Jim) and he was very responsive. The level of the yard was lowered and confirmed with us before sod was laid. The sod was sub-contracted to Curtis Sod Co and they actually handled removing the dirt and re-grading. After the sod was laid there were a couple of problems with the sprinklers. The job was initially finished on a Friday afternoon. After we checked the sprinklers (they should actually have gone through them with us before leaving, but said they'd checked them and everything was good) there were problems with two of them. We contacted Jim and he had someone out on Saturday morning to correct them and replace one head which was leaking. Jim also came by on Monday to discuss a couple of minor concerns about drainage we had along the sides of the yard (we're going to wait and see how that goes as the amount of water from the sprinklers is pretty significant). He re-assured us that if we had any concerns he stands behind his work and to just give him a call. We've been watering the sod per instructions for four days now and everything is looking good. There appears to be another type of grass growing in a few spots (not sure if it's a type of crabgrass or what). When Jim was here on Monday he noticed that as well and said that the sod company would address that. The sod company had someone here on Tuesday who treated the spots. Overall our experience has been excellent. Jim is knowledgable, punctual, and very easy to work with. The work started when he said it would and they did a nice job cleaning up after themselves.

The trees were huge and they knew what they were doing. They planted each one using a tractor which carried the trees into the narrow opening to our side yard. The trees are beautiful and full and very healthy. Everything went well and they cleaned up well too. They mulched and added extra railroad ties against our fence for protection at no additional charge which was nice.

Jim Liebau [owner of West Oaks] and I met several times before the project to work through the details. You could really see that this guy knew his business. He made a number of recommendations that added interestingn perspectives or hid distracting objects like the shed and the neighbor's basketball pole. Working through the project was a highly complex process involving at least three crews whose work had to be coordinated. There were times when I'd gaze upon the chaos and feel as uneasy as a patient who woke up in the middle of an operation, but Jim & Co fielded all my concerns. These people knew what they were doing. They were efficient, skilled and responsive. One measure of the quality of a company is how well it handles unexpected problems. Glitches arose, as you might expect with anything as involved as this was, but Jim and his crews always dealt with every problem quickly and effectively. Jim managed sub-contractor installation of the pergola well, which was especially important as it had to be seated properly within the paving stone patio. The project was completed just days ago. What a difference! Pedestrian traffic past the house has increased, and I don't know how many times people have stopped to tell me how much they like it. I've even had drivers roll down their windows to compliment the work. I got more than I paid for. Would I hire West Oaks again? I already have! They installed the aluminum border as a sub-project of the overall scheme.

Great. My only small problem was with his sod supplier. Have lots of what looks like crabgrass sprouts al over portions of the lawn. Spent a full day picking about 500 sprigs of this weed grass. Keep picking 20 pr more each day, seems to be working, but it's hard work to pick individual crabgrass sprouts out of the lawn ! He said he would have the sod supplier stop by to review. West Oaks always satisfies their customers, so I feel this too will be resolved to my satisfaction in the near future.

He basically listens to what we wanted to do and he made some recommendations and that was really main thing that we are going to use his service to do this work for us.

The contractor provided us with a detailed plan and estimate and was responsive to all our concerns.

I've worked with West Oaks every year now, for the last 3 years. Got his name from Angie's List based on his reputation and can only add to it. Jim is an absolute master designer and a pleasure to work with! His crew is also amazing! I can't get over how hard they all work and how well they all work together. Each and every one of them can be commended separately. This crew has been with Jim for some 18 years, which says a lot about them all. The landscape now is gorgeous and I can't be more pleased. In fact, I can't say enough about the total experience, from the initial meeting with Jim, to the overall professionalism of his office, his secretary, etc, the design, the hard work of implementation, the thorough cleanup, and the ultimate beautiful landscape that I am now admiring.

They were on time, thorough and efficient. although we lost some topsoil in all the rain, they're going to fix it up this week.

We have worked with West Oaks twice now in the past 8 months and have been very pleased with everything. From the beginning, we scheduled an appointment with Jim to come out and reviewed our property. Our initial discussion was on correcting some drainage issues we were having across the front and one side of the property. From there the discussion moved to some stone work that we wanted redone along with some landscaping across the front of the house. We were so pleased with the professionalism and quality of workmanship that without hesitation West Oaks was our only consideration when we wanted to rework the rest of the property. Jim came back out a few weeks ago where we walked the property and discussed some of the possibilities. Among the projects this time was to install metal edging around all of the shrubs, plants and pines. Jim and his team created a beautiful relaxing environment throughout our property which was than enhanced by adding a deep rich color mulch. The highlight and shining star this years project was the creation of a beautiful rose and perennial garden across the back of the house and just off the patio. We have been very impressed with not only the designs that were provided but in the attention to detail the crew provided. The crew was prompt and very professional completing all work within the expected time discussed. When complete, they provided exceptional cleanup of all areas. Overall, we would highly recommend West Oaks to anyone who is looking for quality designs and workmanship.

Their estimate was around $3000 for that work. They were very professional and very thorough. We were appreciative of their estimate but went with another company.

From start to finish - just as promised. Very happy with this company and I would use them again.

I've used them before. The owner is friendly and responsive. They were a little slow because it wasn't a very big job so it took a few phone calls to get them to finish up. Pretty much all the plants they put in have died so we are going to replace them this year. The timeliness of completing the job could have been better. This was just some revision stuff so it took longer than they quoted us to finish the job. I would look around and try someone else in the future.

We had a great experience and will definitely use West Oaks again for our backyard as well as paver sealing!

They were excellent. They did an excellent job. They were good at planning, good at executing and their prices were fair. They had a secretary who was of big help.

They came out and spent 45-60 minutes going through our ideas and scoping out our property. They then gave a couple sketches of the design they proposed. We thought he was one of the best we had talked to in his field. Weather started turning and we delayed work until this spring but he was one of our top choices.

He actually wasn’t able to do what I needed because of the weather. He is very efficient about coming and giving me an estimate. He is very personable. He called back pretty quickly and came when he said he would come. He said that he was going to come the following week. Then he called and said that he had another project. I was a little surprised about that. It was a reasonable price.

They had a very fair estimate. The owner came out to pitch the project to us and he had an experience team to work with him which was comforting. At the end of the job when they drove the heavy trucks away they left deep ruts in our lawn. They came back and filled them with dirt and grass seed however we can still tell where they drove.

Our experience with them was very good. We found them to be responsive and everyone was just great. His ideas gelled better with our ideas than other company’s; he listened to what we liked, what we didn’t like, and he brought ideas of his own. He was willing to change things as the work was going on, he was pretty flexible, he was there when we needed him, and the workers were on time and polite. Our landscaping was done in October, andsome of the smaller plantings did not survive the harsh winter. We called West Oaks and they came right out and replaced all the plants that didn't make it. We are very pleased with the service they provided and would definitely call them again.

The whole project started with our desire to re-do a boulder retaining wall in our backyard. We were never satisfied with the workmanship of the original wall, and we thought long and hard about the kind of finished project we wanted before calling for quotes. While all the contractors we interviewed were very competent and made good impressions, West Oaks was the only one who came up with alternative, lower cost suggestions to our project. At then end we decided to stay with our original plan, but West Oaks suggestions really made us think harder about what we really wanted, and gave us more confident in our original plan. The project turned out to be more massive than we anticipated, involving truck loads of dirt, filler, bricks, etc. Of course, in the middle of the project, we thought of some additional changes and features, and West Oaks handled them all with excellent professionalism. As in any project, there were some hiccups, all of them were resolved to our satisfaction: 1. The excavator and tractor used to move the building and lawn materials tore up our lawn, and a bit of our next door neighboor's lawn. West Oaks came back twice to fix the lawn to our satisfaction. On the second visi, the whole crew spent basically the whole day re-doing the yard. They even put some black soil and seed on my front yard, which they did not need to do. 2. Amazingly, the town inspector actually received a complain about the project, and came to inspect the project. He found absolutely no violation. This just shows that West Oaks' crews know what they are doing, and that I can be confident about them meeting the code and regulations. We are very satisfied with the way the project went, and we enjoy our new patio, and the the new retaining wall. We now have a usable flat area under out deck, and new planting area for our gardening. The flatter yard is now easier to mow. We have received several compliments from our neighbours about how beautiful our backyard looked, and I would say that it now it is probably the best looking one in our neighborhood. In closing, we would highly recommend West Oaks for landscaping projects.

The results were beautiful! Alex helped me pick out a paver color that would look good but not show stains and wear all that much. I get a TON of compliments on my Facebook photos and the deck builder (who also does pavers) complimented the job. It was the perfect end to the deck project. I have plans for Jim to lay out a long term plan for other parts of my yard including ripping out the items on the seawall and thinning the wild tree/overgrown area where the birds nest.

We plan to use them again this year.

Jim Liebau met with me and took the time to understand exactly what I envisioned, my likes and dislikes, and my budget. He is a very personable gentleman with an obvious wealth of knowledge and experience--I felt very comfortable with his suggestions and appreciated his input. He drew up a plan and returned so I could review it and be certain we agreed on everything. He gave me a rough estimate of when he would be available to do the work, and he and his crew started as he predicted and and finished the job promptly. Jim supervises all of his jobs personally, and many of his crew have been with him for years and they are friendly and efficient and know what they are doing. I was impressed, and will not hesitate to call him again---in fact, I referred him to my daughter and son-in-law and he did work for them also.

Exceptional! Jim showed up with the crew, they were consistant and always on time over the 3 days. Very adaptable to suggestions and/or changes we requested. Everyone was very professional and they did an excellent clean-up before they left each day. Have had many complements from our neighbors. Great job!

The work dragged a bit, but it wasn’t necessarily their fault. They ended up doing more work than what we had originally asked them to. Everything went basically well. There were some communication problems. However, when we got to talk to the owner he was very good about it, but some of the staff didn’t seem to be knowledgeable. It all went very well in the end even though it wasn’t perfect. We had to get a hold of the owner and get him to see what the problems were and talk to him about the plans that they had made. They took some things out and left them in the July sun for three days before planting them. As a result most of them died, but they replaced them. They were reasonably priced and the owner did an excellent job by driving our truck that brought down the price. We appreciated that. I would recommend them to others with some warnings.
