Perfectly. Very professional and honest during the estimate visit.
Description of Work: HomeSpec came out to give us an estimate on our basement if we needed waterproofing done. The gentleman was very honest and kind enough to let us know it was our porch that was causing the leak, not the basement walls, therefore, we did not need work done on our basement.

HomeSpec was excellent from the first contact through the whole project. The man who came to do the quote clearly knew what he was talking about and did not give us a hard sell. We got five quotes. HomeSpec was the second lowest. We chose them because their overall solution to our basement wetness problem made the most sense comprehensively. Essentially what they did was install an interior drainage system, install two sump pumps, install a high quality dehumidifier, install a French drainage system along one of our walls, and extend and re-route several of our downspout discharges. Thus they attacked our water problem comprehensively. In addition, they replaced our very old laundry tub and faucet at essentially no extra charge. The crew worked hard for four days. They were very accommodating to our requests for certain features. Their foreman Rick and the whole crew were very courteous and worked conscientiously. They did not just do the minimum job, but at every turn aimed to give us the very best result. Also, their responsiveness and communication was professional and timely. We are very pleased, and heartily recommend HomeSpec.

Contractors will sometimes need to move things to perform work. Then unless agreed to otherwise I would expect the contractor to put things back the way they were. They were supposed to take one day to do the work. They showed up late the first day. The first day they accidentally crushed a water pipe coming into my house. They didn't finish that day. They had to move the washing machine and dryer away from the wall. They removed two sinks and a toilet. They also moved a work bench away from the wall and removed a door. Since none of these items had been discussed, it clearly was their responsibility to move them back or reinstall them to their original condition. They had to remove concrete around the exterior walls to install their system. On the second day, the installation of the sump pump was finished. They had poured concrete to replace the concrete removed. However the washing machine and dryer hadn't been moved back and reconnected. Nor had they reinstalled the sinks and toilet or rehung the door. They had not moved the work bench back. I heard nothing from them about finishing the job. A couple days later I called them to complain. The person I talked with had an unprofessional attitude and at first claimed that I had been told about moving things away from the way as if that meant they didn't need to doing. I explained the items that had been moved and what I expected from them. He agreed to come back and finish up. They then came back and reinstalled the washing machine and dryer and two sinks, but did not reinstall the toilet, rehang the door or move the workbench back.

Sometimes when going through a Management Company there can be confusion as to who is responsible to move items (the Management Company, HomeSpec or the homeowner). We even came to your house prior to the installation to try to eliminate confusion, so we are very sorry that it was still unclear who was to move the items. When they were not moved on the day we arrived, we didn't want to delay the job, so we had our crew move them, thinking they would be moved back by either the Management Company or the homeowner. Also, we communicated to the Management Company that this job required a permit and city inspections and would therefore be a two day job. Again, we obviously failed to communicate that to you. We're very sorry for these misunderstandings, but glad we could take care of the water concerns in your basement with a perimeter drainage system and sump system.

At 12:45pm on 6/4/16 (an hour and 15 minutes prior to the scheduled appointment time), my husband was outside pulling weeds in our driveway when a car pulls up and asks him "Did you get a missed call?" No identification of who he was, just that question. My husband said no, his phone was in the house. The guy asked my husband's name, and then said he was there for the appointment. A FULL HOUR AND 15 MINUTES EARLY. What would have happened if we weren't home at that time, as we were expecting him over an hour later? Would he have left and not come back? This person's name was John. I find this extremely unprofessional, especially since he did not identify himself when he did arrive AND at no point did he actually apologize or even acknowledge how early he had arrived for a scheduled appointment. This is being entirely disrespectful of their customers. Since he was so early, I was not available to meet with him, so he spent 15 minutes speaking with my husband (read: not the person who would be making the decision to use this company's services or the one to pay them - so at least it was a waste of his time) and then left. Good riddance, we will be using another company for this job - I guess you really didn't want the work, John.
Description of Work: We called to schedule an appointment for someone to come out and look at a poorly-installed french drain in our yard (not installed by this company). The appointment was scheduled for 6/4/16 at 2:00pm, and we received an email from Craig (the owner) confirming the appointment day and time.

We pride ourselves on being timely, although occasionally our inspectors are running a bit late. We always call ahead to make sure the homeowner is aware and is not inconvenienced. In this case, our inspector was actually running early! We did try calling, but could only leave a message. He decided to see if he could come early without inconveniencing you and would have certainly returned if no one had been there. We're so sorry that this came across as unprofessional and that this early arrival kept you from wanting to use our company for your repair needs. Please understand that this is an extremely unusual situation and we realize that we should have been there at the appointed time. We truly hope that you were able to get the water management that you needed for your yard and your home's protection.

I can't say enough great things about them. We had a persistent problem with a basement leak and they honored their guarantee and REALLY took care of us. They are responsive, friendly, professional, and clean. But most importantly they cheerfully helped us, even when it was obviously a pain for them. A model for true customer service! Thank you so much, Homespec!!

I will recommend HomeSpec to everyone. Thanks for a job very well done.

These people were great and a good value. First of all the waterproofing cost was half as much as one of the basement water proofing companies that is well advertised on TV. I got three quotes and chose Home-Spec on price and then how they presented themselves initially. I also considered reviews on Angie's list. When the project started they showed up on schedule with a lot of help and equipment. All these guys came ready to work and put in a lot of hard labor removing concrete, moving and replacing furnishings, walls and fixtures. I think for this type of work these people were extraordinary. They worked as a team, they were as fast as can be expected and all were just very pleasant while they hauled out buckets of broken up concrete and hauled in tons on fresh concrete mix. The job was dusty but that was planned for with lots of plastic protecting things. Because they were so good I asked them to repair the concrete at the front entrance to our building. Their mason showed up with his crew and they got all the work done over a couple days. Again, nice people, hard working, very professional and thorough. On both jobs everything was explained in detail and they clarified any questions I had. And how did it go? Both projects went smoothly and I'm very pleased with the results. We have gone through lots of rain and stormy weather since the work was done and typically there would flooding and streams of water in the basement. Now its dry as a bone and the odor of moisture and mildew is completely gone. The front entrance looks like new and all the crumbling cement block has been replaced as well as some of the horizontal slabs and it has been sealed. I highly recommend this company to anyone for basement waterproofing. If you have some other related project you might want ask them about that too.

Great service from start to finish. Scheduling was prompt and easy. They were attentive and quick to respond to any questions throughout the process. Kept us up to date on the progress and status of things. Communication was easy, fast, and very friendly. The crew who came to do the work was polite, professional, and hard working. I have complete confidence in the quality of the work done. This is extremely important work that the safety of my home and family depends on. Don't take short cuts, hire the company that doesn't either. This is what working with someone should be like. The customer service was some of the best I've received in a long time. You can trust this company to do the job they tell you they will do, and when they say they'll do it.

We're glad you were pleased with the work we did. Unfortunately, the building department approved our permit and then decided they only want exterior discharges done in a manner that is cost prohibitive to the homeowner. No other community has done this. When we found a solution they approved, they later changed that plan as well. Thankfully, in the end, we were able to satisfy the building department and you with an expensive discharge at no additional cost to you. We know you were pleased with this and greatly appreciate your business.

John W. - Ann Arbor We are completely satisfied with HomeSpec. Rating: 5.0 ***** 1. They were prompt. 2. They listen to you. 3. They communicate well. 4. They innovate if you have a special problem. 5. I?ve never seen a harder working crew. 6. They know their job. 7. Their price eventually was reasonable. 8. Their work appears professionally done. 9. They are very friendly and caring. 10. They are trustworthy and do what they promise. 11. They sweep the floor when finished, but be prepared to do a major vacuuming yourselfusing a fine dust filter on a shop vac after they leave. You should not expect them to do the fine cleaning because it is major undertaking regardless of their effort to protect your storage possessions. 12. You should temporarily remove as much as possible from your basement before they arrive, or you will be cleaning it after they leave.

I noticed a huge crack in the basement foundation wall right next to a load bearing beam. After a few extremely high estimates from contractors wanting to do what I felt was very unnecessary work (I'm an experienced structural engineer), I finally got a hold of Brian with HomeSpec Advanced Basement. Brian used a very structurally and cost efficient technique to repair the foundation. He was very personable and willing to explain the process. The actual repair only took a few hours and Brian was available to do it in just a few days after speaking with him. I'm very happy with the repair and will be recommending this both in practice and to friends.

My home has an inverted floor plan with all bedrooms and office 75% below grade. In the summer, I notice that the air felt damp. I contacted HomeSpec, they came out an recommended 2 systems one to circulate the air and a dehumidifier. They also arranged for a third party to install the dehumidifier into the duct work. At the time of the installation, the technician and HVAC contractor informed me that I only needed the dehumidifier. This was great news as it saved me 1800.00. They also replaced my furnace/AV air filters and ensured that the system was working properly. I would definitely recommend them to others.

My home had developed basement water problems in the last several years. Frankly, I attribute most of it to the infrastructure neglect by the City of Ann Arbor, but knew it was up to me to solve the problem without the city's help. I originally contacted Everdry, Toledo, who came out and recommended a $20,000. plus solution. Out of frustration with Everdry's offensive and insulting policy of demanding my husband be present at all meetings, I contacted HomeSpec, who had very good reviews on Angie's List. When Brian, from Homespec came to assess my problem and bid on the job, he advised me that I did NOT need the massive fix that Everdry recommended, and bid the job for an inside only drain system that totaled LESS THAN HALF of what Everdry wanted. The amazing amount of work was completed in only two days, due to the diligence and efficiency of Ryan and his wonderful crew. They took inordinate care to minimize the dust/dirt in living spaces and chaos that necessarily comes with a major project like this. They were considerate and friendly, but, above all, professional. They put in two very loooooong days to complete the job, just so I wouldn't have to be inconvenienced for a third day. They even did two personal favors for me! They removed a very heavy piece of concrete I had in my yard, and filled in a hole in my basement that had long had broken concrete. I thank each and every one of the crew members for all their hard work and for making the whole process go so smoothly that not even the city inspectors could find a thing to complain about. (And, that's saying something! :-) Of course, it's too early to tell if my water problems will be entirely solved by the new system. So far, so good. However, HomeSpec advises me that, should any problem EVER present itself, to call them and they will be right over to address it. My experience with them, a little discussion I had with Brian about ethics, AND their "Life of the Structure" (transferable to a new owner) warranty have me resting easy on that score. Highly recommended!

The drainage system and sump pump additon went exceptional. The guys did a wonderful job. It was the putting things back in place by the plumber that did not go so well. My washer, dryer, toilet, sink and shower all had to be removed for the drainage system. The toilet was brand new, but the little bolt covers are now gone. My dryer now vibrates when used. The shower door does not catch correctly. All little things, but when I called about this I was ignored. 8/2014 I have an update; Home Spec did live up to their word and sent out Mark, who was very apologetic as to what happened. He fixed what he could himself, and I need to set up an appointment for their handyman to come out and correct the shower. Now I had only made the one phone call to advise my displeasure with the plumber back when I originally had the work done. They were little annoyances, so I didn't really feel the need to call again. (I was told at that time, their contact person was overloaded and dropped a couple balls in the process. They have since corrected this situation). So, what we have here is a company that is willing to do whatever it takes to make it right, even two years later! In my book, that is pretty darn good customer service. I have changed their grade to an A from a B, as they really are exceptional. I would recommend them to anyone. I am actually having them quote something else that has popped up.

We always take our discharges at least 15' from the house. However, we can never know in advance how much water our system will collect from around the foundation and under the house. Sometimes it can saturate the ground at the discharge point too much. We would be happy to return and give options to extend the discharge or install a dry well if needed. Thanks for the honest review!
