The owner of the shop showed up right on time and completely rebuilt the unit, positioning the gas logs much better than they had been. He eliminated the battery-operated remote and its unit and replaced it with a turn on/turn off knob. He was very neat and there was no residue when he finished. The overall cost would have been less except for the new parts.

Later, the This Is It serviceman, Michael, came by for an appt and took care of the maintenance and cleaning that needed to be done. While working he explained some maintenance and operation details that I needed to use over time in order to keep our unit operating well. The price of $95 for service call, cleaning and parts adjustments was well spent with this company whose guys understand top-notch service and customer care. I recommend them highly to anyone needing fireplace and BBQ grill sales and service.

Very friendly from start to finish! Very communicative via email which is so helpful this day and age. The quotes I was getting were ridiculous from plumbers. This is it shop was so friendly, and were willing to adapt an unused existing gas line for the stove. Very happy with everything. The guy who installed it was so nice - its been awhile I think his name was Mike? And I love my gas stove!

When I called for information anmd to set an appointment they were very proffesional and helpful. Our service technician Mike was helpful, fast and kept everything clean while working.

They were incredible and fabulous There was a discount.

We found this business on Angie's list and called on a Thursday. Since it wasn't an emergency, the service was scheduled for the following Tuesday afternoon. The technician was running a little late from a prior appointment; but, he did arrive and performed the repair -- replace the thermopile -- and did a general cleaning of the entire fireplace unit. He was very professional and kept the work area clean with drape clothes, etc. The cost included their standard overall cleaning service, the additional labor for diagnosis and repair, and the cost of the new thermopile itself. The work was completed in that evening. Two days of testing/use and the fireplace is working fine.

Shared information about the grill work with us and made suggestions for future. Excellent work!

They were very helpful in determining what options were available to improve our gas fireplace. Turned out that any real change would be costly and we decided not to do anything at this point. However, the flame kept going out so an appointment was scheduled within a week and they came on time and fixed the problem quickly.

gas leaksThe assumption is that a gas log service should include a check for gas leaks and damper closure. I was standing there and neither of those 2 things were done. What was done included cleaning the tubes( I think) where the gas came out of, cleaning the logs, and adding sand, lava rock, ember glow which is all extra for materials and time. We had just moved into the house anhd as the weather became colder I put my head into the fireplace with a flashlight and noticed a strong gas smell with the damper mostly open even when it was in the closed position. and quot;This Is Itand quot; never said anything about either of these two things. When we went in to complain they said you are supposed to smell gas and that the damper isn't supposed to close all the way. Wel it is a good thing it didn't or our house probably would have exploded. They wanted to charge us another $65 to come out and check their origin al work. We had another company out that found a large gas leak from an old valve that needed to be replaced. I would highly suggest using another company. If they don't check for gas leaks in gas fireplaces what good are they. This is a major safety issue!!

The fireplace (several years old) kept shutting off. Call was made the day before and the owner (Darin) was very responsive and came out the next day and on time. He gave a Angie's List discount on the price. Darin is very professional, found the problem with a dirty pilot valve, and corrected it. He checked everything out to assure proper function, was very responsive in answering our questions and cleaned up after service was completed. We highly recommend him!

We had our fireplace retiled and ordered new glass doors. We tried to install them but it proved to be a more difficult challenge than anticipated. Called This Is It on Saturday, they were able to send someone out on Tuesday morning between 9 am and 12 noon. Mike was here at 8:45 (after calling first to make sure it was ok to come early), took his shoes off when he was in the house, placed drop cloths down all over the hearth and the carpet (even though the carpet is being replaced) and made putting the doors on look like child's play. I then asked him if he would check to make sure that everything was working right on the fireplace (as we have had a different contractor here who likes to do things his own way). Mike suggested that the fireplace needed to be cleaned (it had never been cleaned in the 12 years we have lived here). I asked if he was able to do it now or if I would need to make another appointment. He said not a problem, he could take care of it right now. He replaced the pilot assembly, sand, embers, and the lava rock (and installed the doors) in less than 1 1/2 hour. He was very professional and courteous. I will definitely call them in 2 years when the fireplace needs to be cleaned again.

Found the leak easily and did an excellent job

Hired THIS IS IT SHOP to fix a small gas leak in a black iron pipe based on what seemed to be good pricing: $95 for the service call including first 30 min, $30 for each 30 min thereafter. On the phone they were very responsive, and found an open service slot based on a cancellation to come out the next day or two. However, upon arrival I was disappointed: Even though I had been specific that the leak was in a threaded tee of a 1 inch black iron pipe the technician did not have the tool to thread one inch pipe on the truck. He offered two alternatives: Drive to Home Depot and buy the parts or take apart a very large segment of the gas line to get to the leak. Either way it would have taken a lot of time to compensate for the lack of the right tool. I ended up suggesting to remove the tee (the branch was not being used anyway) and replace it with a joint. That's what he did, and he was done in less than an hour. I paid $125, which seems fair. However, I am afraid that if I hadn't thought about fixing the leak myself and already had a plan to remove the tee it would have ended up much more expensive.

The pilot light on my direct vent gas fireplace went out and I was not able to re-light it. I called a couple companies in the area to get prices on service calls. Then, I received a circular in the mail with a $25 off coupon for gas fireplace service, so I called the company and made an appointment for the following week. I mentioned the coupon - and the fact that it was to expire the following day. The man on the line said they'd honor it anyway. (And no wonder - another $25 coupon came in the mail the next day.) I was given a 4 hour window (10 - 2) for the repairman to arrive. I called the company in the morning to confirm the appointment and asked if they could narrow down the window - which they couldn't. He (Mike) came at 1:30. He was very cordial and professional. He put a dropcloth down in front of the fireplace and went to work. He described what he was doing as he went along. He also informed me of the proper use of the fireplace. The unit hadn't been cleaned or serviced since I bought the new house in '99. (We really don't use it very much.) However, apparently, it needs regular cleaning - much of which the owner can do. Mike cleaned the inside. He took the and quot;logsand quot; out to the porch and I brushed them off. He also straightened out the hinges on the fireplace door, which he said had bent due to improper removal of the door. The problem turned out to be a clogged pilot vent. After that was blown out the pilot ignited and burned great. Mike put everything back together and I paid him. The entire job - start to finish - took just over 30 minutes. The charge (after the $25 coupon) was competitive with the other quotes I'd gotten.

It went very well. What to say? Mike came, he installed and we love!
