R and D Drywall and Painting

In March 2020 we hired R & D to replace a defective drywall ceiling for $8500. Custom oak cove molding trim attached between the wall had to be removed and was improperly reattached by R&D's carpenter. R & D's painter (the owner's brother, who said he didn't want to be a painter) prepared the new ceiling for finished painting, but he improperly patched the seams of the new ceiling and did an uneven and unprofessional application of the prime coat. In addition, R & D workmen who placed visqueen sheeting around the doorway taped it to designer wallpaper with improper adhesives, which damaged the wallpaper when the sheeting was removed. I pointed out the damage, especially the wallpaper damage, to Mr. Larkins, who agreed it was the fault of the company. Our own long-time painting/wallpaper service had to come in to properly prime and paint the ceiling, repair the cove molding, and replace the damaged panels of wallpaper, all of which cost $600, which we paid. We gave the bill to Mr. Larkins to reimburse us in March 2020, and have spoken with him many times, as recently as today before posting this review, October 1, 2020. He refuses to reimburse us. The ceiling itself is OK, but the company did not deliver on its promises and included services, and the hassle is unprofessional. First and foremost, our contractor Larry was absolutely great! He was professional, friendly, and meticulous. The quality of the work was excellent and he made the drywall repair experience a pleasant one. On the other hand, a member of their managerial staff; Shawn Larkins was very rude and disparaging. After informing Shawn that a portion of our repair would be paid by our Home Warranty company he immediately criticized me personally, assumed that I was attempting to avoid payment, aggressively spoke to me in a disrespectful manner, and "disconnected" our telelphone call twice without following up to finally resolve the matter. The most puzzling thing about our experience with the company were the assumptions made towards me personally regarding the billing matter. It's unbelievable that an individual would have the audcaity to treat a customer so poorly and not attempt to rectify the issue to create a positive experience. During the telephone call I humbly apologized for my inability to attend the initial estimate that my mother in law was able to be present for. Nevertheless, my absence did not justify the retaliatory remarks that I received from Shawn Larkins. Especially because my absence was the result of an extended work-related meeting at my office and finalizing plans for my LSAT studies. Furthermore, attempting to demean prospective customers for using a home warranty is ridiculous. A home warranty is a service contract that for a set period covers the cost of maintaining household systems or appliances. It is most often advised when purchasing an older home for which information is not apparent regarding the status of the items covered. As a real estate agent, investor, and consultant to other professionals throughout southeastern Michigan, I will ensure that others are aware of my personal experience. Throughout the conversation Shawn mentioned several times that he is the son of the owner. Although the fact seemed irrelevant, I would remind Shawn that leadership is not a position or a titile, it is action and example. My hope is that my experience does not reflect the culture of the R and D Drywall organization. Nontheless, I cannot confidently receommend their services and I will share my experience with hundreds of others within my network and my practice for years to come.

We hired R and D Drywall to complete drywall and painting for bathrooms, hallways, and one bedroom. Shawn was prompt in quoting and inspecting after completion. DJ, Justin & Paul did a great job and were very thorough. They put everything back in order and cleaned up completely. We will definitely hire again we've already asked Shawn for another quote on a different area in the house.

My husband and I hired R and D Drywall to complete dry wall and plaster for three separate smaller projects in our home including a bedroom, bathroom, and stairwell. Throughout the process, R and D staff was professional, punctual, fast and communicated well. It took only one week from the time they reached out to us to have Ron come to our home and provide a quote. Within one week of receiving our quote, we were able to schedule Ron and Larry to complete the project. They arrived with a positive attitude and finished within three hours, including clean up. They were appreciative of our business and respectful of our home. And, we received a fair price for their work. I recommend R and D drywall to anyone looking for a skilled and professional experience.

Larry did an excellent job of completing drywall repairs in both ceiling and wall spots I’m my home. He fixed ceiling cracks, nail pops and redid some prior drywall patches that were done poorly by other individuals. He was very respectful of our home and professional in his manner. Would definitely recommend him and RandD Drywall to others.

Larry and Shawn did an excellent job, not only of coordinating schedules for this two day job, but also in the overall high quality for the work and finished results.... they both accommodating my special requests extremely well, and their efforts were greatly appreciated, by both myself and my wife... and great clean-up during the drywall repair and replacement on both days! I had a very small job to repair some ceiling drywall after water damage. Sean treated my "small job" as if it was just as important to him as it was to me. I appreciated the fact that he made a quick analysis of my problem and made a very, very inexpensive suggestion that would save me a bunch of money. He wouldn't take any money after making his suggestion. I appreciate the honesty and integrity he showed during his "free estimate". I will absolutely use him again, if I have to, and will recommend R and D Drywall to family and friends.

Totally satisfied with the work that was completed in my office and bathroom! Out of all the quotes I received for the work, R & D had the nicest professional to quote the work, and the best price. Not only did they demo both my bathroom and office in a single day, but they installed the drywall same day too! Only a couple days of drywall surface prep, and full day of door and trim installation. Every one of the employees was very courteous and kind to work with, but Jamie went above and beyond staying late to finish the trim work. Wonderful company, wonderful people, wonderful work!

Great job all around. They were prompt and courteous. The price was right. You would never know the ceiling had been repaired. Terrance Little did a great job of cleaning up afterwards.

These guys were good. Professional, on time and results looked great. They finished about 600 sq ft of drywall in the basement. I hung the drywall but didn’t have time to corner bead, mud or sand it. They came in did all that and the results were fantastic. They also worked with me on my special design with no baseboards where they finished the drywall at the floor as well. They aren’t the cheapest but price was appropriate. I’d recommend and use them again for sure.

Office was easy to work with for quote and scheduling. Terry was right on time and did a great, professional repair. Thoroughly cleaned up worksite. I couldn't be more pleased with the job end to end.

We were VERY pleased with the work we had done by R & D Inc. From the quote, to the prep for the job, to the repair of the drywall to the finished painting - the work was done in an extremely professional and timely manner. When we added additional work to be done, Shawn and crew were very accommodating with quoting and getting the additional work done. We would not hesitate to use R & D Inc. for future projects, and would definitely recommend them to family and friends.

This company was amazing. They came out the same day I asked for a quote. I had included in the job description that we needed this done soon for my husband's safety. The price seemed reasonable, and they said they would come the next day to do it. The railing matches the railing on the other side of the stairs; it's solid maple and has a decorative turn at each end. It is really beautifully done and extremely solid. I have never had such a good experience with a tradesman. I have had lots of work done by good people but this was extraordinary.

The work was completed in time . The guys contained the mess and cleaned up afterwards. They went above and beyond and assisted with hanging my garage heater back up after the work was complete.

Work was completed on time, just as planned, with no additional price surprises....nice prep work and clean-up. Great family company, definitely would hire again and strongly recommend. They are all friendly, professional, with an ideal work ethic. We always try to support smaller and family-owned businesses and this company did not disappoint.

Renovations are not easy things to get through. After all, an endless parade of strangers come through your house over the course of several weeks. A mess is made. A daily routine is interrupted consistently. Not a lot to like, is there? But R & D do make the process as painless as possible! They keep the job where it belongs, in the job area and just in the job area! I've had companies take over the entire house to do a job. But R & D keeps it right where it belongs. Also, their workers are professionals. They come in, do their jobs, do them professionally, and then they are gone at the end of the day. No hanging around in their cars for hours at a time, as is the case in some contractors. These people come to work! They put in a good days work and it shows in their labor! Which explains how the work is done so quickly and efficiently. Yes, there will be times when scheduling conflicts arrive, but that's true on most jobs. Just about always though, when someone said they'd be here, they were. So as you can see with the pictures, at the end of the job I got a beautiful kitchen! I'm content with the renovation, the job R & D did, their overall performance, and all the workers that came through my door. Don, their carpenter did an exceptional job I must say. He was here the most of anyone and had to do the most. So major kudos to him. This was not an easy job! Thanks to everyone at R & D!

I had paneling removed and drywall put up on one bedroom wall along with new molding around a window and ceiling. Also had some drywall damage fixed in another room. These guys did a very nice job, were polite and on time. Dominic did beautiful work on the trim and went out of his way to get a new marble windowsill I requested.

Work looks great, showed up on time, professional, and left within estimated completion time. Recommended!

Called for an estimate for a SMALL job. Had to wait almost a week, and then the estimator, Shawn, was late for the appointment (although he did call ahead of time). His quote was over FOUR TIMES that of our next highest quote (out of a total of 7). If they didn't want to do a small job, I wish they would have told me when I called instead of wasting both of our time.
