I've had Home Care Chimney out to the house before. They swept my chimney a couple of times and always did a fine job at a reasonable price. This time, I had them replace the chase cover on my chimney, which was beginning to rust and tuck point a few areas where the mortar had fallen out. The work was done quickly and neatly, and I can't say I'm displease with the chase cap, although it was expensive ($675). However, their tuck pointing was very disappointing. Why? Because the mortar on my house is sand color, and what they used to make the repairs was your typical dark gray mortar. Consequently, there are now spots and lines snaking around my chimney that don't match and look like there is something wrong -- as if it needs to be repaired! Of course, the tuck point work was done high up on the chimney and I therefore didn't notice things didn't match until they were gone. And even when I did notice, I kept thinking the mortar just needed more time to "cure" and would lighten up with time. Well, obviously, it never did. It just looks lousy and not worth the $300 I paid to have it done.

Bud from Home Care Chimney Inc. was very nice when he came out to give us an estimate. He came out to our house on February 16th. Later that day Bud sent me an email asking for the make and model of a fireplace that we were going to have installed along with a new prefab chimney chase. I answered his email within 2 hours. I never heard back from him again. I sent Bud a follow-up email on the February 18th, again, no response. Wasted my time, and had total disregard for my time. The reason I joined Angies List was to avoid this type of problem. If the job is to big for Home Care Chimney Inc., let the customer know. Annoyed and unhappy!

Background: 1954, Royal Oak, ranch style home, with a gas fireplace in the basement. Although the brick fireplace looks very nice, apparently the "box" and "flue venting" to the chimney were made too small (very not to code and very unsafe). This is my first home and first fireplace, so this type of issue had never even entered my mind until I went to the fireplace store to get a nice new log set. I showed the guy in the store pictures from my cell phone and his response was along the lines of "w**? who did this?, "oh man, you can't do that..." After many hours of google research on D.I.Y. options, I realized that a professional inspection and repair was the most sensible option. Shannon was very helpful on the phone and she was able to get me the perfect appointment. I sent her email pictures which helped to give an idea of the situation I was describing. Tim arrived right on time and inspected the situation. He was thorough and helpful in explaining everything involved and provided additional options. So, in the end, he disconnected the gas line and capped it off and disconnected the flue venting and sealed the hole in the chimney with a high temperature chimney/fireplace mortar. Most importantly, he shared some knowledge. Yes, I would recommend. Yes, I would hire again. Hope this review helps.
Description of Work: Disconnected and capped the gas line. Removed the flue vent and then sealed the hole left in the chimney with high temperature chimney/fireplace concrete. Shared knowledge and provided additional options.

Tim and the guys did an excellent job. They were professional and knowledgeable. The quality of work is fantastic. I would have liked to have a little better personal contact. Most of the contact was done by e-mail and I'm more of a face to face guy when it comes to home repairs. Tim did have to come back to the house to install the mantle and fireplace doors at a later date because the doors did not come in with the fireplace. That was not their fault though. I don't think I will have to use them for such an extensive project again but I would recommend the company to anyone who needs chimney work done.

This company was great. We had a leak in our family room, so I called this company to take a look at the chimney to see if it was the source of the leak. The owner came out within 48 hours of my first call and was here for an hour testing to see what was causing the leak. I received the estimate within two business days and they were unexpectedly able to fit me in that same week. The work was completed in one day and the guys were friendly and professional. I would recommend this company and use them again if needed.

I contacted Home Care Chimney for a quote on a new chimney cap and repair of broken and damaged brick on my chimney. I had received a quote from another contractor. While Bud Atchley (the owner of Home Care Chimney) was here quoting the chimney repair I asked him if he knew of anyone that could repair my roof and he assured me that he could do it, so I asked him to do the work. Bud and his crew did a fantastic job on the chimney and even better on the sagging roof. Bud and his crew were very professional and courteous and I would highly recommend them.

Chris at Home Care Chimney Inc. came into my home and performed a free estimate for repairs to my chimney. Three companies had checked my chimney, and two of them said that without the repairs, I should not use the fireplace, due to fire hazard. A reline was needed. Chris explained the situation clearly, and offered a very competitive price. He also pointed out that my chimney crown was NOT in need of replacement, though another chimney repair company had tried to convince me otherwise. HCC Inc. came in and completed the work within a week. They added a couple of extras, no charge (reseal of the crown, added an access door for ease of cleaning in the future), and completed the work with the utmost of professionalism. He completed all the steps, showing me exactly the things that were being done, in a manner than helped me to understand more about my chimney than I had known before. It's nice to know that you can trust a person, and their company working on your home. I couldn't be more pleased !

Thank you! Jeremy is very thoughtful and detailed.
Company came highly recommended from co-worker who used to work in heating & cooling business. Owner showed up promptly and gave us a great price. Much better than another we got. The crew arrived on time and began work immediately, they completed the job and cleaned up. We were very happy with the work they did and the price was excellent. The owner took the time to answer all our questions, even the ones that didn't pertain to the job at hand. We would definitely recommend them and use them again.

These folks were incredibly knowledgeable and informative. They were punctual, professional and identified a carbon dioxide problem because my hot water tank was vented through the chimney. They immediately made time the next day in their schedule to correct the problem for me at a very reasonable cost. Home Care Chimney is excellent at what they do and very reasonable with their rates.

Tim was the supervisor and he gave me the quote as well as did the work. The owner, Bud, came out the second day and helped. Out of all the people I contacted they were the only ones that came in with a camera. They showed how poorly built the chimney was and they added a liner to correct some of the past problems. Added some additional bricks on the outside chimney to bring the height up to code. They even did an inspection video. The owner is a qualified fire inspector, and they are all trained to do this type of work. They were very professional and very nice.

The gentlemen from Home Care Chimney showed up on time to perform the scheduled chimney sweep and inspection. They were pleasant and acted in a professional manner. Their inspection revealed issues with the chimney, and the lead person performing the inspection informed me that the chimney was unsafe. He was unprepared to give an estimate to repair the chimney at that time, which I understood, and I was impressed with his willingness to explore ideas to help keep the costs down. I followed up with Home Care Chimney to get an estimate to make the "necessary" repairs and received an email with the estimate two days later. The estimated cost was well into the thousands with the only option presented being to replace both flues in the chimney (flue for fireplace and flue for heating system), which meant they basically wanted to rebuild the interior of the entire chimney, including installing a stainless steel liner for the heating system (about 1/3 of the total estimate). I contacted two additional companies - one with very high ratings on Angie's List (just like Home Care) and the other recommended by a well-respected fireplace company in my area - for a second opinion. Both companies indicated that the estimate I received involved far more than was needed, especially given that there was already a stainless steel liner in place for the heating system that was intact with no functional issues. Both companies stated that the chimney - both flues - operated correctly and did not need replacement. While I have no complaints regarding the service performed by Home Care to sweep the chimney, my advice to anyone getting an inspection from this company is to get other opinions from equally qualified companies before agreeing to additional work.

Response from HOME CARE CHIMNEY INC
We at Home Care Chimney appreciate the reviews listed on Angies list. It helps us gauge the quality of service performed for our customers. All of our chimney sweep technicians are certified by the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA), are trained to recognize potential safety issues related to chimney's and fireplace'. Additionally, I am a Certified F.I.R.E. Inspector and work as a consultant with forensics for structural fires relating to chimneys and fireplaces, a state licensed builder and mechanical contractor. That being said, I also feel that it is important that the readers of these reviews receive clarification of any potentially conflicting issues that may have been noted in a members review. Here we have a beautiful home built in the early 1900's. Home's, especially of this age, have the potential for deterioration and is need of repairs. Chimney's and fireplaces are no exception and often go unchecked and sometimes simply ignored. When we think about a chimney to vent a fireplace or furnace etc., most people are thinking "smoke" that is going up the chimney. Along with the smoke is carbon monoxide, heat and a host of other chemicals that are produced during the burning process. A "chimney system" must have the ability to fully exhaust the "products of combustion" out and into the atmosphere. The chimney must also be built to protect the structure from the effects of heat that could either migrate or transfer to combustibles (house framing). A process called "pyrolysis", is where the current state of organic material, and in this particular case house framing lumber, is exposed to heat over time and its chemical properties change. If a chimney is in a condition that could allow heat to reach combustible areas of the structure, then pyrolysis can begin. Pyrolysis changes the state of wood in a way that the wood can ignite at very low temperatures, even without a flame. Whenever we are hired to inspect a chimney and discover issues that could be a potential hazard, the homeowner is entitled to the information. Any decisions to correct the issues is certainly the homeowners prerogative. Our inspection process for a traditional masonry fireplace includes a special video camera that allows us to view the inside of a chimney to determine the condition and integrity. Based on our findings, we will make recommendations. The recommendations we make are to bring the chimney/fireplace into code compliance and for the safety of the occupants. A person is always entitled to a second opinion. When selecting someone to give a second or third opinion, I feel that qualifications and experience play a key role in giving an opinion. When I know the facts about something, when I have seen the issues, I tend to question a contradicting opinion. If someone is to offer a second opinion, a basis of that opinion should be offered as well. The true condition of the chimney and the types of material that currently exist in a chimney should be properly identified, such as stainless steel, masonry etc. From the photos we have on file, the heating system liner shows an older oxidized aluminum liner installed, so it appears that misinformation may have been given as to the type and integrity of the heating system chimney liner. This is our 27th year in business, have maintained an A+ BBB rating since 1994, Have been BBB accredited since 1994, have and maintained all proper lincenses, go the extra mile to train and have certified technicians on staff, have high review ratings throughout the internet, have numerous inspection systems to inspect and verify true conditions of the chimney and fireplace systems. My question is did the other companies perform the same level of inspection we did? And with similar equipment? We focus on customer service and I feel in this case we did deliver. When the owner came to give his appraisal of our leaking roof, he found the chimney in disrepair and also the roof vent not properly installed. His recommendation that he put in the slope back roof vents made sense and he did all on the same day. He and his crew were friendly, professional and quick. Work was completed in about 5 hours. We were instructed to call him back if there is any problem in the future with continued leaking.

The top 7 rows of brick on our 45 year old chimney were crumbling after having it repaired a few years ago and going the inexpensive route. We couldn't be more happy with the outcome. Workers were here when they said they would be. Started the job and never quit until they were done and cleaned up the entire area. We were amazed how closely they matched the original bricks. You cannot tell where the new bricks meet the old. Workers were very professional, polite, and informative on what they doing and how they were going to do it. They also offered advice on my other chimney which turned out to be fine. Wife and I are extremely pleased with the repair and with the cost for the work done.
Description of Work: Repaired crumbling fireplace chimney.
They did a fantastic job! I would highly recommend them to everyone who needs chimney work. Great people!
Description of Work: Home Care Chimney scanned our chimney and said that there was a lot of cresote built up in the flue and we had a cracked flue to fix. They gave a us an estimate, plus our insurance covered half of the amount. We were so pleased with the work they did. They had to cut out some bricks outside the chimney, but, you can't even tell they did it.

The date and amount are a little off. I had them out a few weeks ago, at a very fair price. Did a great job and cleaned up when he was done. Update: Based off of my previous positive experience with this company, I wanted to thank them by giving them more business. We were given a wood burning stove by my future father in law (in one week!) and I wanted to see about getting it put in. I am ignorant of all the different parts of a chimney, how they are built, how they work and so on. So after emailing back and forth with Vickie, she needed to send out the original guy that did the sweep and another guy for $50 (I had forgotten about the fee), but they were upfront about it in the email. Anyways the original sweep comes back out and after he comes back in the home he starts talking about what needs to be done and what he thinks it will cost. And during our conversation I asked him if there were cheaper ways to do it (because as a homeowner I feel it is my duty to ask and I am getting married soon and have put most of my remaining money towards the festivities that go along with said event) from that point on he starts talking about how he's not going to break codes for me and this and that. Or I'm risking burinig my house down if i just throw it in there. My point is, I just ask the guy about a less expensive option and he gets real agitated and acts like I am asking him to sell me drugs or something. So after he is done with all that nonsense he says he can't do it because of clearance or whatever. So they start to leave and the other guy he was with mentions maybe putting in an access door outside. So he remeasures a couple things and they both decide this might be an option. Now this next point is fairly important, at some point, I asked him what he thought it might cost and he said about $1700-$1800. So that is what I expected when I got an estimate. But when I got the estimate it was for almost $2400. No big deal, I thought maybe he made a mistake or maybe I forgot something. So I called the company back and asked for the sweep. He was not in so I asked that he call me so we could go over the estimate to make sure it was correct. From there I recieved this rather rude email. Hello *, When you asked me how much I thought for the liner I stated around 1700-1800 to which I came up with $1900.00. This was before discussing installing an access door ,which is additional cost. Best I can do is knock off $200.00 Bottom line. Thanks He was sure to bold "thought" and "the liner". Anyways, based off of my conversation with this guy and this email, I will no longer be doing business with this company. If they feel that a confrontational email is the only ways to handle customer's questions for a PAID estimate than I need to look elsewhere, and you should too.

Technician arrived on time. He introduced himself, explained the procedure, and answered my questions. He said a copy of the video inspection would accompany report (never received it, "not available"). Cost of inspection $135.00. The inspection and cleaning took very little time to complete. Two of the deficiencies found were the chimney had no cover/cap, and the caulk around the chimney flashing was drying and cracking. Those were repaired at the cost of just under $200.00 . The report also identified cracked and missing mortar joints in both chimney tile liners, especially the fireplace flue, calling it "potential fire/carbon monoxide hazard if used." Home Care Chimney provided an estimate of about $4000.00 for repair. I did not have them perform the major repairs. No pictures or video was provided.
Description of Work: Home Care Chimney cleaned and inspected the fireplace and furnace chimneys, Inspection by video camera. Installed chimney cap. Recaulked chimney flashing.
