Building Performance Solutions

A competitor of Building Performance Solutions performed insulation work on our home a few years ago under the Michigan Saves program. We had follow up questions regarding the quality of work and unfortunately that competitor passed away, the company filed bankruptcy and was liquidated. Alex (the president of Building Performance Solutions) stepped up to the plate voluntarily through contact with Michigan Save regarding our questions and performed an inspection on our home and refused pay for this service. Although this inspection alleviated many of our fears/questions, it did highlight a few things that we could improve on with suggestions for doing said improvements. We would HIGHLY recommend Alex and his company based on our experience, and his values, honesty and morals.

Alex did a fantastic job and was able to fit me in to perform the work literally within 24 hours of me contacting him. They cleaned up well and our basement already feels warmer due to the newly insulated walls. Only small 2 1/2" holes to patch and paint, so very non-invasive way to insulate after the fact.

I give them an A+++. Great service...on-time and completed early...they did the little things most contractors fail to do. I really appreciated how they cleaned up after the job was completed. And best of all, they were recommended and lived up to my friends statements. I would hire Alex VanRijin and his team again.

Job went smoothly - came one day to prep and a second day to finish. they were on time and efficient.

Alex and the team did a great work. we ended up adding insulation to the entire house: Attic, rim joist and walls for a colonial house. the work was very clean and well done. we had only a minor issue where a duct was hit when doing the walls and got some insulation in it that blocked it. Alex and the team were back very quickly and helped correct the issue (a bit of work but was well done). it was really an excellent company to deal with.

I used Building Performance Solutions several years ago to insulate a crawl space and the rim joist on my house. Alex was great to work with and was always the consummate professional. I noticed that my neighbor (a builder) used him to insulate his new house and walked over to talk to Alex one afternoon. We discussed my upcoming project and I used him again for the insulation on my addition. I had him check an area in the house that was always either cold or hot and he determined the space above the area was a none insulated attic area. I had him insulate the area and haven't had an issue since. I would highly recommend his company and use his services again if needed.

The best contractors we have ever hired! Highly recommend Alex and his crew, who were very efficient, clean, quiet. I work at home and barely knew they were working in my house. They made a plastic tunnel to work through to remove old insulation and covered all areas in tarp so my home was not full of insulation dust upon completion. They cleaned up all areas, including vacuuming when they were done. Kind, friendly, respectful and overall amazing work and knowledge of their craft. Great experience overall!

As a licensed general contractor, our firm recognizes quality work. We have used Building Performance Solutions as our go-to insulating contractor for many of our insulating projects. Alex is very knowledgeable in his craft. That is why I chose him when it came down to insulating my own personal home. They are fair, easy to schedule, and clean up- after themselves.

This company was one of the best contractor experiences I have had. They went above and beyond to provide a high level of service and were substantially lower in price than other contractors that quoted. They didn't just perform a basic insulation function, but assessed the science behind why my issue was occurring, performed an energy audit, and were able to determine the root cause of the issue. This led to BPS being able to resolve my issue more directly, using less time, materials, and for a significantly reduced cost. They took the time to explain why my home was functioning as it was. They were honest, forthcoming, professional, and I would recommend them to anyone who asks. I actually have recommended them to neighbors who have also said great things about them.

Alex at Building Performance Solutions was a pleasure to work with. I first met Alex at the Novi Home Show last year and was impressed by his product and professionalism. I kept his card and when it came time to start the home insulation project on my house, he was the first company I called. Getting in touch with him initially was difficult, a few emails and phone calls went unanswered. Once I established myself as a serious customer the dialogue got better. I was able to communicate with him via text, phone, and email which helped the process of figure out the details go much faster. The price was fair and Alex did a great job of getting me the max amount of rebates, he also installed a free wifi thermostat. Alex and his crew showed up on time both days and worked hard to get the project done without disturbing my house too much or creating too much of a mess. The payment was done online which is so convenient! Overall, my experience with Building Performance Solutions was pleasant. I recommend their service if you are in the market for home insulation.

Alex and his crew used spray insulation foam in the upper level and blew in, injection foam on the main level. I had read a very negative review when I was researching this company but there was only one and all the other reviews were positive. I decided one negative review would not stop me from trying this company. I am very happy I went with Building Performance Solutions!! Alex was wonderful to work with. He accommodated my schedule and my schedule changes. His team was very professional and efficient. I can already feel the difference in the home. We have had some very hot day's and the home is much cooler than it was before the insulation was installed.

Alex and his team were hired to blow foam insulation into our exterior walls, which were not consistently insulated properly, and in some cases, not at all. They really did their due diligence at making sure they blew foam into all open cavities and kept me apprised of their progress at all times -- including where they didn't need to install any additional insulation. The crew was super hardworking and respectful (always removed shoes or put on booties when entering our home). Alex is extraordinarily knowledgeable about the origin of sound and how to blunt it, and was great at explaining everything. I would hire Alex and team again in a heartbeat. They're outstanding.

Alex and crew added blown in insulation to our attic bringing it up to R-60, spray foamed our basement rim joist, added a fireplace damper and fixed issues with our bathroom fans (no insulation in the attic) that he noticed during our estimate. Alex was very responsive to emails and phone calls, showed up on time and did a great job. He pointed out issues during the estimate that he thought would be worth investing in now and things that he thought we might want to do in the future. We did an energy audit and Alex submitted all of the paperwork for the rebates so that was very simple. Our house is much more comfortable/energy efficient now and it was done for a great price.

Alex did excellent work. I was always concerned about the draftiness in our house especially our living room. We had replaced our windows, furnace, and roof, as well as had insulation blown in into part of our attic. But I still had to wear a coat and scarf in the winter in our living room. After Alex came in for a blower door test and using and infrared camera to analyze where the drafts were coming from, he told us our heat and AC were going STRAIGHT INTO THE RECESSED LIGHTING. I would have never thought that would be a place of leaks! I had already hired another contractor to come out and replace wood, and negotiated a time that his company could also come out so they could work together on my house. Alex then gave me advice when that contractor did not show up for our dual project to remove wood so Alex could fill it with insulation. Alex showed that he was extremely knowledgeable in airflow and insulation. It has been a month since his company has been out, and I am able to set the thermostat much higher in the summer and still be comfortable since the drafts are gone. And I can walk into one room and I don't feel the drafts anymore! Would recommend this company to anyone looking to get rid of drafts. FYI, it took a few weeks to get an initial consult with this company until I called him on his cell phone. It seemed that the toll free number didn't work so well. After that, doing business with this company was great.
