ALLIED PLUMBING & SEWER

Steve and his son camera-ed the pipe from inside to the street to find the problem. He showed me what needed to be replaced and advised me what DIDN'T need to be done, as quoted by a different plumber. It was a two day, messy job that included a jack hammer on the inside and a 9 foot hole on the outside. We have had many problems with water in the basement over many years and many "fixes". Steve seemed to think this will fix the problem. Have to say, we had flood warning rain this week and the basement is bone dry.

very responsive, called him this morning, he was out to my home within an hour and had my toilet fixed within the next half hour. excellent work, very informative and educational. just bought a new toilet and he explained how it gets clogged and how it works. very nice gentleman.

Very well. They showed up within an hour. They took care of business at a very reasonable price. They were nice, clean, cordial, and polite. I also liked they quoted a price upfront and did not change it. I highly recommend them to anybody and everybody. I definitely plan to use them again in the future.

I have tried to put this whole incident out of my mind, but every so often it comes back to nag me and I was recently reminded by Angie's List to write a review ...so I guess I'll share my unpleasant experience hoping that another naive,unsuspecting, young person will not be taken advantage of. My husband, Nick & I are owners of Allied Ventilation, Inc., a sheet metal company which we founded in 1981. We employ Union Skilled Trades Workers and our HVAC projects range from extracting oil from the air in the pits of factories; to installing towering exhaust stacks on facory roofs; to supplying ventilation systems in the sterile environment of hospital operating rooms. We are well respected and very knowledgable in the construction industry and have a reputation for good quality work performed on schedule. Having said that this is our experience with Allied Plumbing & Sewer (not to be confused with my company Allied Ventilation) Nick & I helped my newly-divorced daughter purchase a small but nice home for her and her two children a few months prior to this service call. As it happened she had an urgent plumbing problem with her kitchen sink just as Nick & I were leaving for a two week Florida vacation. Coincidentally I had just noticed an Allied Plumbing & Sewer truck driving down the street. The truck was clean... the company was local...and I liked their name so I told my daughter to call them (MISTAKE #1) and while they were out she should have a couple of minor projects(see items #2,#3 & #4 listed below) checked off Nick's "to-do" list. (MISTAKE #2) Because I gave her the name so quickly my daughter assumed that we knew and trusted this contractor (MISTAKE #3) She called them and they said they had a truck in the area & they came out immediately. As we were getting off the plane in Florida she called us with the amount of the bill... $1350.00 which she paid with my Discover card. Needless to say I was taken aback by this amount, so I inquired about the work that was done, the amount of time they were there and the hourly rate charged as well as the warranty on the work performed. The worker stated the work performed (Items #1 thru #4 listed below) That there were two men on the job for three hours and Their hourly rate was $125.00 for EACH man...(no lower rate for the helper). (PROBLEM #1) WORK PERFORMED: 1. The plumbers removed the galvanized pipe from the kitchen drain and replaced it with PVC pipe... no problem. 2. They proceeded to install 2 shutoff valves in the basement HOWEVER, in doing so "noticed" that a our newly installed copper hot water line needed to be replaced as it was "ready to burst"... VERY QUESTIONABLE!!! (PROBLEM #2) 3. They replaced the flapper on the toilet... no problem. 4. They replaced a tub & shower fixture ...no problem with the INSTALLATION. HOWEVER THE MEN TOOK A BRAND NEW REPLACEMENT TUB & SHOWER FIXTURE THAT WE HAD JUST BOUGHT WITH THE INTENTION OF REPLACING IT OURSELVES!!! (PROBLEM #3) Feeling that we had been overcharged my husband called Allied Plumbing & Sewer when we arrived at our destination and requested an itemized invoice as well as proof of insurance. We never received the paperwork requested. To summarize my complaints: 1. Even at their outrageous hourly rate of $125.00/manhour (which I totally disagree with) their labor still only accounts for $750.00 which would indicate that there was $600.00 in materials used. They have refused to justify these charges because they cannot come up with material charges anywhere near $600!!!!! 2. I question the need to repair the work that had recently been performed 3. The fact that they took our new tub & shower fixture strikes me as "STEALING" I SERIOUSLY question the integrity of Allied Plumbing & Sewer. THEY WERE VERY NICE AND I THINK THEY TOOK GOOD CARE OF ME. THEY WERE THE FIRST PLUMBERS I'VE HAD TO CALL AND I WILL CALL THEM AGAIN. THEY WERE VERY GOOD PEOPLE.
