First a little background on this review. I?m sure everyone has a list of home improvements that they would like to have done and this one was on the top of our list for a long time. With that said it was time! We wanted to do this on our terms not when the furnace decided it was done. After all it was the original one installed in this home without central air and a little over 50 years ago. I?m sure I won?t get 50 years out of the new one! I did my homework and came to the conclusion that this was no easy task so I turned to the web. This led me to our utility companies where I found out about their rebate programs that they offered but only if the new equipment was installed by an approved contractor. We picked four contractors based on their overall reviews to bid on this job. The contractors were told about our bid process and all were compliant. They were told that I would get back to them within the week with our decision one way or the other whether they got the job. Within that week I turned back to the web now armed with brand and model numbers my task was set. After the equipment had been decided on I turned my attention back to the final four. All my research told me one thing that it all came down to the installation of the equipment not only for the performance but the longevity of the whole system.
With the help of Angie?s List and other like web sites one contractor stood out and that was Aladdin Heating and Cooling. Jeff Turowski from Aladdin was the only one to do a residential load calculation and issued a report showing the right size equipment needed for our home. Jeff was also competitive when it came to pricing although not the lowest I believe you get what you pay for. All of the contractors were told that I would be using Angie?s and other sites for reviews on their companies. Jeff told me that I would find bad reviews on all companies and I agreed I told him it?s not the bad review but how they responded to them. Aladdin not only responded to a poor review it was done by Jeff in great detail. From the time Jeff was given the go ahead and the other contractors were informed that they did not get the job. Aladdin excelled at every part of our installation. From thier office staff to the installers and the service technician that charged the air unit after the outside temp reached a steady 65 to complete the job.
In addition to immediately providing the load calculation Jeff also was able to provide quotes on the spot. Quote was originally provided on a Friday, I had additional questions for Jeff that night so I texted him figuring he would probably respond next business day. He responded immediately and we were able to setup an appointment for the next day to schedule installation. He had two openings for installation which was Monday or Friday. I chose Monday since my current furnace was dying and it closed a gap in their installation schedule. Only 4 days between quote and installation!
On Monday installers arrived on time and completed the work in roughly 7 hours. In addition to installing all the HVAC equipment they performed repairs to my existing duct work in other areas of the house. They patched multiple areas of duct work that were damaged and leaking into the basement. In the attic I had also discovered the previous owner had stepped on one of the ducts that runs above the joists and completely disconnected it from the register in addition to denting it. They were able to reinforce the duct and reconnect it. I also wanted the thermostat moved into a more central location which was done with out issue. Fixes for the duct work was performed with no additional cost.
The installers left the furnace with temporary wiring until the electrician they sub contract could come out and install permanent wiring for the furnace and A/C. The electrician they provided was able to get everything wired up promptly and provided excellent service. After this Jeff came back out to tweak the dampers in the duct work to get them balanced. The upstairs and one of the bedrooms on the lower level were under powered while some of the registers closer the the furnace were over powered. He also patched a small hole in a duct I had forgot to mention during the installation.
Overall it was a great experience and would definitely hire them for any HVAC needs in the future. The 2 stage heat is great along with the Wi-Fi thermostat, I can view a graph of what equipment was turned on and at what time. Temperatures have been a bit warmer recently and the furnace has been running primarily in stage 1 mode, should be easy on the gas bill. Since it is not warm enough out for A/C I have yet to see the A/C unit in action. They will be back out to start up the A/C for the first time when the weather gets warmer, I will try to remember to update this review when that occurs.

The installers arrived as scheduled, removed the old units, and installed the new. One of the installers was the representative who estimated the job. After about 8 hours the new furnace and A/C unit were up and running. They cleaned up the work area well. The only issue was a few screws from the old unit that they missed. They contracted with an outside electrician to install the booster fan and complete the wiring. He came two days later, as scheduled, and completed the job in a couple of hours. They contacted the city inspector and the job passed inspection without any problem.
