I was very pleased with them. The owner came out and looked at the issue. I was having some control valve problem that had gone bad that they had put in eight years ago. They covered a good majority of the work under warranty and it was out of warranty. He had cut me a good deal.
Description of Work: I used Aladdin Heating & Cooling predominantly. I used them replace a large boiler and to do a couple repairs after that.

A representative came out to estimate the job in June. He explained what would be done, and the rebates and tax credits that were available. He also listened to my concerns. We have a two story home, and the old furnace did not get the air to the second floor very well. He suggested a booster fan to increase the air flow to the master bedroom. We had two previous estimates, one from a small company that we had used for maintenance, and one from Sears. Aladdin's price was the same as the smaller company. Sears lowest price was $2000 higher. We chose Aladdin over the smaller company, because they have more technicians available for unexpected service needs. We chose Aladdin over Sears, because of the price, and I felt the Sears representative was more of a salesman than a representative. The Sears representative spent at least 2 hours going over options and pricing, and trying to sell us the Sears name, insinuating that they were better, because they were bigger. The installers arrived as scheduled, removed the old units, and installed the new. One of the installers was the representative who estimated the job. After about 8 hours the new furnace and A/C unit were up and running. They cleaned up the work area well. The only issue was a few screws from the old unit that they missed. They contracted with an outside electrician to install the booster fan and complete the wiring. He came two days later, as scheduled, and completed the job in a couple of hours. They contacted the city inspector and the job passed inspection without any problem.
Description of Work: Installed new Carrier furnace and 16 Seer A/C unit.

They were very efficient, seemed very knowledgable in answering all of my questions, on time, only took one day for installation, and I called them once to check on something and they returned promptly to take care of it. They were very professional and took care of obtaining the required permits. I would definitely use this company again in the future and recommend them to friends and family.

We have used them for a quite a while. They are good all the way they through. They were on time, in fact a little early. The guy knew exactly what we needed, recommended the right size, the cheapest way and the most efficient way to do it. He did not recommend the larger unit but the actual blowers needed. The salesman that comes out actually does the work.

Get at least 3 estimates when you you replace your furnace and A/C. Watch out when they try to sell you repair coverage after you buy that should raise a red flag. look at warranty whats covered and who pays for labor when Furnace breaks down. If not installed properly you will have added expense and problems as in the case of Aladdin Heating and Cooling.
Description of Work: Installed top of the line Lennox Furnace and A/C. Furnace constantly breaks down because of bad installation by Aladdin and they wanted additional payment to fix and maintain furnace. Had to have another HVAC contractor fix and repair Aladdin's mistakes.Do not buy from this company or you will be sorry!!!!!!

Response from Aladdin Heating & Cooling
UPDATE 3/6/2013: This is Jeff Turowski, one of the co-owners of Aladdin Heating & Cooling. Immediately after reading this member's review, I searched our company's computer database for his history. I searched by this customer's last name, his address, and the time frame that he gave for when we performed an installation... I found no record of this person being an Aladdin customer whatsoever. Moreover, I tried calling both numbers the member provided in order to talk with him about his review and there was no answer at either number, nor could I leave a message. As a result, I contacted his city to see if they had a record of us performing work at his stated address. They had no record of Aladdin Heating & Cooling ever performing a furnace and air conditioner installation at his stated address. In fact, they had a record of another heating and cooling company performing a furnace and air conditioner installation in 2005, Making it very unlikely that this member would have the need for another installation in 2010. At this point, I don't really know how I can further attempt to contact this "supposed" customer to speak with him about his review and resolve his issues, but I would like to note that I have contacted Angie's List and they are investigating this review because it is believed to be untruthful/fraudulent. I would also like to state that I, Jeff Turowski, am one of the owners of Aladdin Heating & Cooling and I am fully committed to making EVERY Aladdin customer a happy one... even this person, if he even is an Aladdin customer, which I am doubtful of. To this Angie's List Member and/or anyone else who has questions/concerns about this review, I can be reached directly by e-mail at Jeff@AladdinHeating.com UPDATE 3/12/2013: In a last ditch effort to contact this member, I reached out to the physical address provided by the Angie's List member to meet with the person living there, to see if we had ever actually installed equipment there, and to get to the bottom of this review. I discovered that the Angie's List member was posting his review of our company because of his secondhand dissatisfaction with a furnace and air conditioner at his parents house. I discovered that the member's parents spent a total of $5,125 with Aladdin Heating & Cooling, not $8,000 as stated. Aladdin performed the installation at his parents home over 8 years ago in 2005, not in 2010 as the member stated. The member's parents had Aladdin Heating & Cooling out to their home for preventative maintenance on their heating and cooling equipment EVERY year from 2005 through 2010. Each of these visits was punctual (at the time stated/scheduled by the member's parents) and each year that preventative maintenance was performed, the technician performed filter changes and normal tune-ups ONLY... no service/repair work at all. During each preventative maintenance visit, the furnace was "working normal at this time" according to our technicians and according to the paperwork that the member's parents signed and dated from 2005 through 2010. I have documentation signed and dated by the homeowner indicating this history to be true. Therefore, the member's statement that his parent's furnace has been problematic since day one is completely false. After personally talking with this Angie's List member, it is my understanding that the following events happened: At some point in the year 2010, the member's parents experienced their first problem with their new furnace, which was 5 years after the installation occurred and 3 years after their labor warranty expired. At this point, the member and/or his family DID NOT CALL ALADDIN Heating & Cooling. They called another company, who came out and convinced the member and/or his family that their problem was due to a failed circuit board, which the other company replaced. Shortly afterwards, the member's family experienced the same problem and this time the other company stated that their problem was due failed pressure switches, which they then replaced. Soon after this, ANOTHER problem with the pressure switches was experienced and this time the other company said that the pressure switches weren't working correctly because of a clogged pipe and that the pipe was clogged because the vent pipe was installed too close to the ground and it was sucking up dirt. This other company has supposedly come out on multiple events to continue to clean this piping and the pressure switches. Upon hearing this history of events, it became obvious to me that this customer was having an issue with his/her furnace and the other company had failed (on multiple events) to properly diagnose the issue with the furnace. Additionally, it seemed completely absurd to me that the other company wouldn't modify the piping that was "supposedly" too close to the ground and causing the pressure switches to become clogged. UPDATE 3/18/2013: I went to this member's parents home to meet with him personally and to look at the situation. The vent pipes were installed EXACTLY according to manufacturer recommendations and were NOT in any type of position where they could suck up dirt. In fact, they were approximately 12 inches above the grade. I explained to the member that even a vacuum cleaner would be unable to suck dirt off the ground from 12 inches above it. The Angie's List Member was still convinced that the pipe was blocked and needed to be replaced because of his discussions with another company. As a result, I cut and removed the entire intake piping system with the member present and showed him with a flashlight first-hand that the interior of the pipes were COMPLETELY clean and clear, as they should be (they looked brand new inside). In an effort to further impress him, I completely replaced his piping so that there would be NO QUESTION that the pipe is in good working order and is not blocked as was stated by another company. I chose to do this instead of re-installing the same piping, even though the existing pipe was perfectly fine. I further spent the time to properly diagnose the problem that he was experiencing and recommended the parts that needed to be replaced so that he doesn't have any future related problems. I DID NOT CHARGE HIM ANYTHING FOR MY TIME OR THE MATERIALS I USED even though I was there on 3/18/2013, which is more than 6 YEARS AFTER HIS WARRANTIES EXPIRED, 8 YEARS AFTER WE PERFORMED THE JOB. I explained to the member that we have NEVER, NOT ONCE, been called by his parents nor been notified that they had a problem with their furnace until his unfair review our company was posted on Angie's List. In fact, we were called by his parents to perform preventative maintenance and we did perform preventative maintenance at this home according to his parents desired schedule for 5 years (from 2005 to 2010) and during each visit the furnace was in good working order with no repairs needed or performed. I have documentation signed and dated by the homeowner indicating this history to be true. The member was unable to provide any receipt saying that he had any problems with the furnace between 2005 and 2010. This Angie's List member simply called another company who failed to properly diagnose a furnace issue and when the same problem reoccurred over and over, it APPEARED as though they were having issue after issue with their furnace. All the while, Aladdin Heating and Cooling was never even notified that there was an issue and this other company continued to blame Aladdin Heating and Cooling for the problems. I've asked the member to be responsible and remove his unfair review of our company and post a review talking about his experiences during my visit on 3/18/2013. He did not say outright that he would do this. I've added this information so that our potential customers can see my Company's Response to this member's concern and understand that we have done everything possible to help this person and there is nothing that we could have done to avoid this situation in the first place. I know of NO OTHER COMPANY that would go as far as I have to make this customer happy by coming out for free 8 years after an installation (6 years after their warranties expired), replace the entire intake piping system for free even when it was in good working order, and correctly diagnose the problems he has experienced (which another company has been unable to do) JUST to make the customer happy and address his concerns. Sincerely, Jeff Turowski Aladdin Heating & Cooling Jeff@AladdinHeating.com

Our furnace wasn't kicking on so we called Aladdin. A few hours later, Mike arrived and discovered that our draft switch was tripped. He corrected the issue with the switch, showed us how to check/correct it ourselves, and then cycled the unit to ensure there were no other problems. He was here less than 15 minutes and we had to pay the $93 service call fee.

Salesman was supposed to call Aug 16, 2012. As of today, 8/25/2012 he has yet to call.So 8/23/2012 I had Great Dane replace my air conditioner, and a 21 year old water heater as well.
Description of Work: We had long been satisfied with Aladdin's work. I think personnel have changed over the years.Last week my air conditioning quit. I called Aladdin, and their Service man came promptly 8/16/2012. He said unit was shorted out. It was 11 years old & would need to be replaced. He said he would have a salesman call immediately & the $93 service charge would be taken off the bill for a new unit.

Aladdin, along with 5 other companies, was asked to come out and give me a quote on the replacement of 2 complete HVAC systems for my two story home. I assumed Aladdin was a reputable company given their long standing presence. Jeff (one of the owners) came to my house and performed an analysis of the needs of the home and provided me with a quote that was about $2800.00 less than their nearest reputable competitor. I also received quotes that were about $100-$200 more than Aladdin from some smaller entities. When Jeff handed me the quote and statement of work, and given their reputation, I immediately handed him my credit card and said and quot;let's do thisand quot;. We scheduled the job for two weeks later. Jeff originally told me the job would be done in one day, but then called a day or so later to suggest that we might need to spread the job out over two days due to my second level furnace as a condensing unit, understandably requiring a heated path to drain. I suggested we might be able to get the line down the wall and into the basement, though we also supposed there might be a need for heat tape and running the drainage line across the roof. On the morning of what was supposed to be the first of two days of installation, the doorbell rang and I was greeted by two full installation teams, who had arrived in 4 trucks, and was informed they planned to get the whole job done that day. I was elated! The Aladdin employees were professional, hard working, and courteous, and set to work immediately. I worked in the attic with one of their employees just ouside the dormer wall and we were able to identify a good pathway for the drain from the dormer to the basement so we were able to drain inside the home eliminating the need for heat tape or poor aesthetics along the roofline. They provided me the completed paperwork required for the utility company rebates, which I signed and returned to them. I then set about walking around the house checking on Aladdin's progress with each system, while admiring the craftsmanship of the employees that had been sent to handle my installation. These guys were AWESOME, and even had two metal fabrication trucks on site where they were custom building duct work for the areas above the furnace and cold air returns that required rework. Even more fantastic to me was the fact that they actually added a metal pocket to the back side of the cold air return on each unit for storage of the installation/service manuals for the units themselves! In the basement, the dryer ducting was running to the best place for them to run the exhaust for the basement system so I had them pull the dryer duct out (which was in sad shape to begin with) so they could run the exhaust there. They had already started cutting out the space in the brick for the exhaust where there was apparently already a hole in the joist leading outside, so they finished cutting out that hole, and I ran to Lowes to pick up a new exterior dryer vent and some hose, and they were kind enough to mount it through the new hole, clamp the new hose to it and seal the exterior duct to the wall with silicone. This was a better arrangement because code requires (at this time) that the exhaust pipe for these 96% efficient furnaces extend 1 foot from the wall of the house, and this was close enough to the chimney to not impede the side walkway. When they were finished, after testing everything to ensure it was working, they cleaned up after themselves, leaving nearly no evidence of their presence there aside from the shiny new high efficiency units they'd installed and the fancy sticky walkway on the carpet. We shook hands, and I was informed that the electicians would arrive in the morning to finish up the wiring. Shortly after they left, I tried to run my AC again and one of the units failed to come on. I called Jeff and he had someone out first thing in the morning to check it out. It turns out that one of the wires for the contactor had broken inside the insulation (not their fault), and the technician had me up and running in about 5 minutes. The next morning the Electricians also arrived, and they were professional, and courteous as well. They completed the wiring, and cemented up the last of the holes left behind in case they needed to run new conduit. They also removed the fancy sticky walkway tape that had been left by the installers for their benefit (as they would be walking around the house and didn't want to mess up my carpet either.) The only negative I can come up with (this wouldn't be a fair review without one) is that some of the old clamps for the old lineset paths were left in place on the chimney on the side of the house. I haven't contacted Jeff about it because I honestly can't remember if doing that was part of the agreed upon cleanup or if it really even matters, or whether or not they could be removed without damaging the brick. I may go back with a pair of vice grips and see if I can at least break them off near the mounting points, as they do protrude a bit from the brick. Perhaps it was a simple oversight. Given how little I paid for all the work they did, I can't imagine myself complaining to them about it in the slightest, and besides, I need something to do, though I'm sure that if I called Jeff, he'd have someone out here to take care of it for me the very next day. Overall, I am completely satisfied with the quality of work that was performed and the quality of the Lennox components that were installed. I received prompt service the day after installation, the work was performed in less time than I anticipated, and I have two air conditioning units that actually cycle on and off on 90+ degree days as opposed to running all day long like my 30 year old units did. I am eagerly anticipating the winter months and my new electric / gas bills that show me how much I'm actually going to save in recurring utility costs. Jeff and his team were absolutely the best to work with on this project and I would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for quality craftsmanship and a job done right at a fair price. If you haven't considered them for your HVAC needs, you need to.
Description of Work: Work performed was a rip and replace of my two existing systems including: 2 original (improperly sized) furnaces, 2 - 30 year old AC units, filtration systems and whole house humidification systems, with two 96% efficient Lennox second tier (just below the signature line) furnaces at 70K BTU each and two 2.5 Ton AC units rated at 13 SEER.

Description of Work: This is the 4th year we have used Aladdin. We have 3 air conditioners and heating units. Aladdin has been doing annual maintenance on these systems for 4 years The house was a 2 family when we bought it and we converted to a single family but kept the separate heating/cooling systems for upstairs. Very professional and on-time. Unfortunately, the company charges a fixed fee for their work and we ended up paying $650 for a $125 motor and about one-half hour of work. Price was in the stratosphere but we needed heat and couldn't wait until Monday so we were held hostage to the rates quoted. Not the tech's fault but I would never use Aladdin for anything unless it was an extreme emergency such as ours. p.s. We could have waited until Monday for the repair and saved $300-$400 but we have a baby and three year-old so our options were limited.
Description of Work: Needed a blower motor replaced on our heater on Saturday. Only an authorized Lennox motor would fit (we had another repairman out and he couldn't complete the job due to improper fit of a generic motor) so we were stuck using Aladdin. Every other repair service quoted in the range of $250 -350 to do the work. Since an earlier repairman had taken it all apart only to find that his motor wouldn't fit, all that the Aladdin tech had to do was to put the motor in the mount and bolt it back in to the furnace.

I had called Aladdin Heating and Air conditioning due to the furnace not working. I had been trying to fix the problem myself, and a little after 11:30pm realized I might be able to find 24 hour service on Angie's List. I found Aladdin, and their hours said they were open until 11:30pm. So I just missed them. When I called someone answered, and was rude over the phone as I was trying to explain the problem. I clearly do not know much about the furnace, and I was explaining the problem wrong, but they were rude over the phone. They told me they could send someone out between 8am - noon the next day. I made arrangements to work from home the next morning and move meetings to the afternoon so I could attend. I called them just after 8 to confirm the appointment and they confirmed I was 3rd on the list.. I called them again around 11:00am when I hadn't heard anything (they said I was next, but were no longer committing to the 8am-noon time frame) and I called them again at 1:00pm to find out what was going on. At that time they told me the service guy was stuck at another job, and they could send another technician, after he was done with his lunch. I told them not to bother coming at all. While this was going on I had received a call from Colonial Heating and Cooling to schedule my furnace tune-up from the Angie's List "Big Deal" I had just bought from them the day before. I don't know why I didn't think to call them originally. I think mainly because I was hoping Aladdin would be able to come out at night, so we wouldn't have to sleep in a freezing house with space heaters. Colonial said that if I had trouble Aladdin to call back and they would send someone out. At 1:00pm, that is just what I did. They said they would have someone over within the hour and even suggested I use the Angie's List "Big Deal" coupon towards the service call. Poor customer service from Aladdin. I asked them if I had not called at all that day, would anyone have called me at noon to tell me that the technician would be late. They admitted that they had no way of knowing that I was quoted a time-frame of 8am -noon over the phone. This seems like a pretty easy process problems to fix, hopefully for future customers (not me) they will do that.
Description of Work: My furnace was not working, so no heat in the home. I had a service time set up with them for 8am-noon.

Response from Aladdin Heating & Cooling
I've spoken with the lady who was on the phone with you at 11:30 pm on February 14th. The following is word-for-word what she says: "I remember this gentleman very well. I am sorry if I came off as rude. I was only trying to find out what type of equipment he had in his home. At first he stated that his water heater wasn't working. I told him that we don't normally treat water heaters as emergency service calls in an effort to respect the service technicians need for sleep. He then told me that he didn't have any heat. So I asked him if he had a hot water boiler? He replied that he had a forced air furnace. I confirmed this further by asking him if he had radiators throughout the home or air vents. He said he had air vents and that he'd prefer a morning appointment. I told him I would set up the appointment for 8am-noon. Normally, at this point, I explain to the customer that I can request an A.M. appointment but I cannot guarantee a time frame because occasionally the technicians are forced to spend more time at locations with difficult problems. I cannot remember making this statement to this customer and I apologize that he was forced to wait for an appointment that he thought would be earlier. Please tell him that I apologize for not explaining our time frame better and that I absolutely did NOT mean to appear rude. I only ask so many questions in an effort to better prepare the technician for the equipment he will be working on." On behalf of myself, I also apologize that you were forced to wait as long as you did. We make a strong effort to be as timely as possible for all of our appointments, but the nature of our business sometimes prevents us from being as timely as we'd prefer. You absolutely DID deserve a phone call to update you on the status of this technician and I will make sure this happens in the future. Sincerely, Jeff Turowski Aladdin Heating & Cooling -Owner's Son-

I have a contract with them, to come twice in a year, to check and services the heater and air conditioner. I had a centralized system installed over 10 years now and from then; they have taken good care of the same and maintained it. They are punctual and I can trust them completely. I like their services and will use the same in future.
Description of Work: I used the services of Aladdin Heating & Cooling, sometime in the fall last year.

In five years, our AC had to be serviced twice (in 2007 and 2010) for freon leaks, and our furnace had to be serviced once (2009) for an electrical malfunction. We used Aladdin repair service for the first problem in 2007, but switched to another repair service in 2009 because we did not wish to continue giving money to Aladdin, so frustrated were we with their product and service. (Note: our other service person commented that the original installer had "mickey moused" the wrong capacitor onto our condenser.) In summer 2010, two weeks after the condenser was filled with 2 lbs. of freon, our AC malfunctioned again after a large storm. I called Aladdin to complain and spoke with the owner, Dave. While at first apologetic, he grew increasingly dismissive of my complaints. He said that his records indicate that our system had only been serviced once, not three times. I told him that was because for the last two repairs we used another repair service, noting that "we didn't want to give Aladdin another dime of our money." He grew irate with me, stating, "So you stop using my guys and now you want me to marry the problems caused by these other guys? That's a bitter pill for me to swallow." I assured him that the other repair service was simply trying to fix the problems caused by his faulty installation of the original unit. He responded, "Why aren't you calling [other service agency] and yelling? Why aren't you p***** at them?!" I can hardly imagine a less professional response. As it turns out, the reason our AC unit malfunctioned this last time is because the condenser had been struck by a live power line that snapped during the storm. The charge traveled through the copper lines into our house, causing an explosion of freon and oil in our basement ceiling. Our entire AC unit was fried and needed to be replaced. The technician who installed our new AC unit discovered that the METAL bracket securing the copper line in our basement ceiling was screwed into the METAL ductwork. When the power line struck the condenser it caused a short to ground that blew out our entire AC system (and, to boot, our wireless router.) Our technician observed, "had the bracket been screwed into the wood beam instead of the metal duct, this never would have happened." For all of these reasons (improper installation of original unit, ongoing service problems, and unprofessional response of company owner), I would strongly discourage anyone from using Aladdin.
Description of Work: Installed new Lennox furnace and air conditioner in July 2005.

I’ve read your review of our company, I understand your reason for being upset, and I apologize for the way I chose to word my feelings during our last phone conversation. I’m not trying to make excuses for my actions. My response was an emotional one due mostly to the circumstances of the situation: I’ve had virtually no way to help make your problem better. I was left completely unaware of your complications until years after the installation of your equipment and after another company had been out on multiple occasions. It was July of 2005 that your unit was installed and we had our conversation over the phone in July of 2010. To this day, I don’t know what I can do to make your situation with us better and I’m still relying on the information of what went wrong at your house from another company (who’s best interest is to make us look worse and for them to come through as your savior). Regardless of your thoughts, I assure you that we DO care about you, your family, your opinion, and your heating & cooling needs. Sincerely, Dave Turowski Aladdin Heating & Cooling

This vendor was quick to respond to an emergency service call for our broken heating system. Unfortunately, the repairman proved to be dishonest and attempted to replace items that worked. When he explained what was wrong, he said that we needed to replace the motor. I told him that I thought it was probably the capacitor (a $10 part). He went on to explain that he had tested the motor and that it had an irregular flux. I said that I thought that that was interesting, because my son had been able to restart the motor the night before, by spinning the rotor. If then that had been the case, why had my son been able to restart the motor. He then said he would call me back in five minutes. He did call back to inform me that he had just then realized that he had the new capacitor in his hand when he first called. He stated that he had reinstalled the old one by mistake. He then told me that the capacitor was the problem. He quoted me a price of $85 for the capacitor plus service call. Unfortunately, I was out of town, so I accepted the offer. My son signed the credit card receipt. The charge on the receipt was above what was quoted. I called the main office to complain. They had me fax my receipt and said that they would call me back. They have not answered my request for help. I plan on not using Aladdin again. I recommend that you avoid them too.
Description of Work: Misdiagnosed problem for more expensive repair. Replaced capacitor. See below.

I’m sorry to hear that you were unsatisfied with our service technician, but I assure you that our technicians ARE honest and fully capable of diagnosing your problem in order to repair your unit and get it running properly. Otherwise, we would not employ them. I’d ask that you draw your attention to the fact that we were out at the designated time and properly repaired your furnace in a timely manner. I’m confident the unit is still in good working order at this time. I have personally located your bill and reviewed it myself. The totals that were charged exactly match the prices we have written in our price books. The service call fee of $93 is what we charge to (1) send a well stocked truck and service technician to your home, (2) to cover the time it takes the technician to diagnose your problem, and (3) to ensure the heat exchanger is intact before any repairs are made. The price of the part covers our cost to purchase the part, to have it on hand at your home, the labor to install it, and the labor to check the remaining electrical connections/safeties/controls within the furnace to ensure the units proper operation after our repair. It is true that you will ALWAYS be able to purchase a part and install it on your own with less expense than hiring a company to do it, but there is value in having it done quickly, accurately, and with a guarantee. I’m sorry if you felt this charge was excessive, but I assure you that your bill reflected the going rate for the services performed and the parts installed. If there is any way that I can regain your trust in us as a company, I would greatly welcome the information. Sincerely, Jeff Turowski Aladdin Heating & Cooling

Overall I have mixed feelings about the experience. I got what I needed from Aladdin at the time, but not much else. I stated above that I'd use them again, but I don't feel any preference for them over their competitors after my experience. Here's the story: I placed the call to Aladdin around 6:45 am on Mother's Day. (a Sunday) I had called two of their competitors as well, but they gave me the earliest arrival time for the technician, so I hired them. They were not the cheapest at $181, but we were cold. The technicial called me around 7:30 am asking for directions, which surprised me since I had already given my address to their representative over the phone. The tech. was at the house by 8:30 am, but it was clear he was unhappy about the early job on Sunday/Mother's Day. (It's OK to be unhappy about it, just don't let the customer know.) He got right to work after putting baggies on his feet to keep the carpet clean. As he worked, he dropped one of his tools into the sump pump. While surveying the sump, he uttered a couple of curse words within earshot of my 7-year-old son - not cool. As he worked he described what he was checking and what findings he was making. He tried several quick fixes to try and offer the least expensive repair possible, which I appreciated. The quick fixes did not work, though. The diagnosis became more clear and the repair estimate became more expensive. He offered me the choice of making the expensive repair or having a salesperson come out the next day to offer a replacement. With a 25-year-old furnace, I chose the sales person. So that's the story - not great but not horrible. In a word, middling, but I expected better.
Description of Work: Aladdin came to troubleshoot and offer repair estimates for my furnace which had stopped working.

We went to the showroom. It was untidy. We waited for the lady at the desk to finish with a customer. There was lots of chatting. Five gas logs were on display. She could only get one to operate and complained that she did not know how they worked and that the company did not do very many fireplaces anymore. She could not tell us the difference between vented and non-vented. She had to call the man who came to our home for information because he was off sick. The cost of the logs was much more than logs we looked at other places and those were supposed to be sales prices. She did not know about delivery time or what was in stock. We departed without a purchase. We had another person look at the gas pipes. He said the fittings were in place on both pipes so all that was needed was to run a pipe off each fitting into the hole in the fireplaces and install the connecter. He suggested that I had been taken advantage of and that the estimate was too big by $ 600.00.
Description of Work: Asked for estimate to install gas logs in two fireplaces in my home. Dan Porter came out on 10/14/09, measured and gave estimate for installing said logs. Looked at gas pipes in basement and advised what needed to be done to connect with fireplaces. I was charged 150.00 for the look and estimate. The work estimate was over $900.00. The man never said the amount did not include the logs. The written estimate stated " fireplace needs 24" log." Pretty confusing for someone who does not work in the field. He advised us to come to the showroom to look at the variety of logs.

I have done business with them for fifteen years and they have always been very good. They were on Angie's List, people had good opinion and I felt the same way about them. The salesman told me how much time the job will take and how many people are going to install it. Everything was as prompt as it could be. They were out here when they said they would, did the work within the stipulated time and did a marvelous job of cleaning after the work. Everything is working fine and I have nothing but good things to say about them.
