"Thank you very much for taking the time to review our company and for having us out. A quick comment related to our visit at your home: please remind family and friends that when cooking this holiday season they should be careful if they cover their kitchen stoves with tinfoil. Although this can keep your appliances clean and help avoid a messy kitchen, it can also Starve the burners of needed oxygen on a natural gas cooktop, which can lead to an excessive production of carbon monoxide. We wish you the happiest of holidays!"

I use Aladdin annual for both furnace and air conditioning check-ups. In June '16, Aladdin performed A/C check and serviceman noted to "have the tech check the capacitor next visit - properly working this time." in Aug. '16, I called Aladdin because A/C unit was not working (was not an emergency call). Aladdin promptly responded, and the serviceman replaced the capacitor unit. I was provided with a discounted rate for the service call ($64), due to Aladdin's recent visit to my house in June. I was charged an additional $154 for the capacitor part which included a 1 year warranty + no charge on parts/labor if the replacement part should fail during the warranty period. I called Aladdin to complain about the charge, when I could have purchased the exact same OEM part online at a cost of $18.00 plus S&H (including a 1 year warranty). I explained to Aladdin that I did not object to them making a profit; however, I objected to being price gouged at a 10X level. Aladdin reiterated to me their part warranty and no charge for parts/labor during the warranty period for the part they replaced. I shared with Aladdin that they actually charged me for their warranty and no charge for parts/labor upfront. My A/C unit was installed by Aladdin in 2005, and there was an extremely low probability that the replaced capacitor unit would fail when taking into consideration that the part replaced was 11 years old. In addition, the serviceman who performed my A/C check-up in June '16, obviously noticed an issue with the capacitor or there would have been no need to him to make this notation on his invoice at that time and he make no recommendation to replace the part during his visit. Aladdin personnel very politely offered to provide me with a $20 credit; however, I refused. I explained to Aladdin that repeat business is the easiest business for them, that they are in a highly competitive business and that, again, I understand they are a "for profit" business but not to the level of gouging. Aladdin asked what it would take for me to be satisfied in an attempt to rectify the situation. My response was that, at this point, there was nothing they could do as they have lost both integrity and credibility with me and, as a result, I would not continue to reward them with any future business. I also indicated that I would share my experience on your website.
"Hi [Member Name Removed], My name is Jeff and I am one of the owners of Aladdin Heating & Cooling. I have been updated on your experience with our company from my office and from your review. First off, I would like to apologize for making you upset and for any inconvenience we may have caused you. You've dealt with us before and I hope you understand that we are not in business to take advantage of people... we have been in business for over 70 years now and that's a testament to our honesty, hard work, and treating our customers homes as if they were our own. From my understanding, the primary reason for your recent dissatisfaction is due to the price you were charged for a return trip charge and installing a capacitor, which was a total of $218. I assure you that YOU ARE CORRECT, we operate within a HIGHLY COMPETITIVE MARKET and there are plenty of heating and cooling companies to choose from. However, I will also assure you that what you were charged is absolutely the going rate for this type of service and (as you noted) we DID try to offer you a discount simply to maintain your faith in our company and to display our willingness to be helpful. I'll refrain from trying to explain the costs because our office has already done that and I believe you have resolved to not agree with us on those points. Instead, the following are the very first links that I find when I search on Google for "Average service call and capacitor charge": FIRST RESPONSE: "Could be $195 to $350, easily. Remember there is a cost to carry parts on a truck, the company brings a $35,000 truck ,with thousands of dollars of parts , tools , and test equipment, to your home. By comparision to a car dealer service shop, where you take it in, repairs are mostly , much less money. Plus they may include warranty cost, and labor warranty, we warranty parts and labor for two years , on that part. Source: www.bayareacool.com SECOND RESPONSE: I just had this done moments ago. I was told the normal rate is usually around $325 but I had been referred by someone entitled to a discount rate so I actually paid $245. I was thrilled. I was serviced same day, was told there would be no charge for service call or diagnostic and even though it was after 7 p.m. when they came I was just happy to see they would still come out this late. The men were extremely polite, found the problem quickly, fixed an annoying rattle in my furnace, let me know I had a very good unit and did not try to sell me anything else. I live in South Texas where A/C is nearly as vital as oxygen. I was so grateful it wasn't anything major I would have gladly paid the $325. Source: http://answers.angieslist.com/how-cost-capacitor-installed-home-ac-unit-q51872.aspx THIRD RESPONSE: I just had one replaced last night[...]It was 311 with service call, and 5 year warranty on parts, 1 year on labor. Source: http://answers.angieslist.com/how-cost-capacitor-installed-home-ac-unit-q51872.aspx FOURTH RESPONSE: List of average air conditioning repair costs: Capacitors and/or Contactor: $110 – $400 Source: http://www.fastacservice.com/air-conditioning-repair-cost"

This review is lengthy, so if I can leave you with some takeaways in just a couple sentences it would be this. Jeff cares. He is naturally a person who takes great pride in the work he, and the company, does. He is focused on providing people with what is needed, and his ethics are without question. If you read through some of the other reviews, I think you will see the great lengths he has gone through in order to accommodate customer needs.
We had a new furnace and AC system installed in our house on 2/17/2016. Our previous system was original to the house, and was from about 1975? big green monster as I have heard it referred to. It heated the house okay, and did a mediocre job of cooling the house. However, the system was highly inefficient compared to today?s standards. We bought the house in the summer of 2015, and intend to stay there for a long time, so figured it best to upgrade an aging and inefficient system to begin the payback period with lower natural gas bills.
For all other major projects I have had done in the past, I have had at a minimum three different companies quote the work. This time, we only had Aladdin Heating and Cooling quote the work. I can?t give a direct comparison of their cost structure compared their competitors, but from doing some research on the internet, and discussing with other friends, we received a very fair price for the work that was done. The quote came in far lower than what we were expecting and preparing for.
Jeff came out on a Monday to quote the system. We have a unique house in which part of it is a log cabin, and the other part is a stick built structure. Jeff took the time before coming out to research the thermal insulating values of the logs used to build the house as well as the chinking used between the logs. Once he arrived to the house, he took the time to review the structure, materials used to build the house, levels of insulation, size of windows, etc. to calculate what the thermal load needs to be to heat and cool the house properly for our region. He then presented us with several options of furnace and AC units that could meet the heating and cooling demands of the house for a balanced and comfortable temperature. He left us with the information and did not try to push for the sale or even ask us to call him back to let him know.
We got ahold of Jeff on Tuesday to let him know the job was his, and he had his crew to our house Wednesday morning to begin (and complete) the installation. I was not home during this process, but my wife was. The installation went smooth, the crew was cognoscente that my wife was home with our 1.5 month old baby, and they worked in as much of a non-disruptive manner as possible. The unit we bought are partially subsidized through utility company rebates as well as tax credits. To ensure we received these incentives for the AC unit, they completed the installation of the AC unit at the same time as the furnace. Because of a prior, and questionable, install of our AC unit by a different and unknown company, Jeff?s crew had to create a new pad for our AC unit in a different location. The prior AC unit was located about 15 feet away from the house with refrigerant lines hardly buried under the ground. This extra run equates to unnecessary thermal transfer and inefficiencies. I bring this up because the area they located the new AC unit at is on the side of the hill. To create a flat, and level installation spot, they had to dig out a large area of ground. They spent the time to dig out frozen ground to ensure the unit was installed that day, and that I received all the possible subsidy incentives. If they had come back later in the spring to do it, it was possible that the incentives would no longer be available.
The crew did a very clean install and even added in some small features that were not discussed to create a smoother working system. An example of going above and beyond was adding a water hammer dampening device ahead of the humidifier solenoid to eliminate the clunking noise during valve closing of the water line going to the humidifier. The unit is in the basement, away from our living area, so I don?t know that we would have ever noticed the water hammer noise. But, we do appreciate the attention to the little details.
We have been using the furnace for about two months now, and we have had no issues with function or performance. We sleep well knowing that the system was professionally installed by a company who has a track record of backing their work. They were a pleasure to do business with, and hopefully I don?t need to call them again any time soon, but certainly would not hesitate to do so again.
