One of the best experiences I've had with an outside contractor for this do it yourselfer. I was considering the removal of a load bearing wall and I wanted to know the dimensions and material to be used for a beam to span the new distance without the wall. I had checked with a few lumber supply houses to use their services for my project but all had come back to me stating that the project I had was too complex and "out of their league." One lumber business recommended John Lidgard from Maverick Consulting. I sent my home blue print plans through a PDF with notes on what was desired as well as some pictures of the load bearing wall that was being considered for removal. These files were emailed on a Thursday and John Lidgard from Maverick phoned and discussed my options with me on Sunday. I received details and specifics of not only the beam itself but also other precautions with regard to improving the load carrying capability of the floor carrying the load at each end of the new beam and the size and type of posts to use to support the beam. John emailed me his calculations that night as backup to what was stated earlier in the day. John was very easy to talk to, patient, and very professional. I plan to use their service again with my next beam load project. I was very pleased with the outcome.
