Description of Work: "I contracted several projects: demolish two-car garage, reroof the house, rebuild balcony railing, install vinyl siding over CMU wall. | |There was considerable miscommunication on many levels in the course of these projects. | |The roofing job quote listed using ice and water shield underlayment. I assumed ""ice and water shield"" means a synthetic membrane sheet product like Grace Ice & Water Shield (R), but, Blue Line typically use the lowest grade fiber and asphalt based sheet product ""Resisto LB1236"" which appears to me to be little more than adhesive back building felt [a.k.a. ""tar paper""] even though many roofers use it and ABC Supply recommends it. Resisto manufacturer states that this product must not be used on plank decking... my roof is plank decking. The construction of my roof was well known to Blue Line before quoting the project. Work stopped until Amil Alwan was available to negotiate an agreeable resolution. | |Within Blue Line there are logistics communication problems. The crews seemed to not have the right materials and supplies to continue work, so they often worked only part of a day. These factors caused the projects to take much longer than expected to be completed. | |The work when completed was very good. I agreed to pay the additional cost for Grace Ice & Water Shield (R), because my house has concrete block [CMU] walls which have excessive heat loss which compounds factors leading to ice damming in winter."

Description of Work: I have had Blue Line do some plumbing and ceiling repair associated with a leak from my shower upstairs. They did a great job. I also had Emile replace a large picture window in my living room. Also done well. The quote I was given was very good and hope to have them replace a patio slider this summer.

Description of Work: Called to make an appt. for an estimate on tile installation. Set an appt. for late afternoon. They changed the appt.time without informing me to a time |I wasn't expecting them. Let them in anyway (estimate man was very kind and apologetic I will say that). I have called numerous times to try and get my written estimate and have received no response from the company. I took time out of my busy schedule to make and keep an appt. which they messed up and I have received no word from them. Very rude and unprofessional!

Very well.
Description of Work: They redid two bathrooms for us, installing new sinks in both, a new floor in one, and a new tub and tile in the other. Worked hard all day and cleaned up after themselves before they left. The jobs started the day they said they would start. We added new details shortly before work began (and some during), and they did those without any problems or complaints. They even built a custom light fixture for us when we couldn't find a replacement one (we have an old house). Our toddler loved them, too.

Description of Work: I did not select this contractor because (1) they were too early (~60 minutes) for their appointment to scope out the work; (2) I overheard the gentlemen say that this was a small job; (3) after a few weeks, I had to inquire on the status of the estimate which was subsequently emailed to me with no follow up phone call to discuss. Between the comment regarding the job being small, lack of follow through, and a perceived disinterest in wanting me as a customer, I went with another contractor.

Response from Blue Line Remodeling & Construction, LLC
We apologize for any misconception that we would say it was too small of a job. What you were looking for would have been right up our alley. The owner believes he did try to get a hold of you to discuss the estimate. If he is wrong then he takes full responsibility. We try to be punctual for our estimates. If one of our employees showed up an hour early it would only be because it was an area we were unfamiliar to and wanted to allow time. We are deeply sorry for any inconvenience and it was not our intention to make you feel neglected.

I live in an older tri-level home with "sloping" ceilings. The "design" for the railing, which needed to begin outside the upstairs bathroom door was not really a good one, leading to a safety issue. In doing the estimate, Amil took time to talk to me about options, recommended a small extension of the hardwood floor so the railing could be attached to a floor; not just thin air, offered solutions to the problem of my bar counter not wanting to stay in place, and assured me he would bring my deck up to code. The work was completed in a timely fashion. When Amil came to double check, he agreed with me and my son that some of the railing spindles needed to be adjusted. He did that himself. I was so pleased with the results I asked for an estimate on windows and siding. Again, as he was giving me the estimate, Amil asked me numerous questions about what I had in mind and offered helpful suggestions. An unexpected bonus of the new windows was that they sit into the house in such a way that I can now install window treatments inside the windows, plus Amil had decided to make all new window sills, which my cats love as they are the perfect size for sitting and gazing at the birds. The other good thing to come from the siding was Amil and his electrician discovering problems with the power line going to my house and got the power company out to fix the problem. Amil's approach to this project reflects his attention to detail, his genuine connection with his customers, and his desire to provide quality work at a reasonable price. Bathroom; my bathroom is small, cramped and prone to mildew on the ceiling, which was beginning to show wear and tear. Amil insists on ceramic tile and I'm glad he did. The work was completed in about 7 days; new tile, new fan, new fixtures, and a wonderful storage alcove. Because of the slope of the ceiling and a lack of attic, the fan required a vent to the roof and some redoing of the wiring in the room. The fan is an example of how Amil and his team will find a way to make something work for the customer at no additional cost. The final product does not look like the same room and I would be happy to show it to anyone. Al and Chris were wonderful to work with; Chris has been a part of all the jobs mentioned here. They would answer my questions, kept me informed, asking me about paint or trim and reminding me when I had forgotten to buy something I was supposed to supply. If I had to be away and there was no one here but my cats, I felt perfectly comfortable leaving them alone and knowing if I didn't get back before they left they would lock up for me. To sum it up, if ever I get the urge to do anything else to this house, Amil and his company will do the work. Amil and Blue Line provide a quality product, completed with quality materials and workmanship at a beyond reasonable cost. Unlike firms I have dealt with in the past, this one is focused on quality customer service, not the bottom line.
Description of Work: Amil and his company have performed 3 major jobs for me over the past year. The first was to replace my interior stairs, install a new railing; add a cubby and brace to my existing kitchen bar, and refurbish and upgrade my deck. The stairs and cubby work relates to general remodeling though not on a grand scale. This work cost 2500. The second job was to replace windows and replace siding on my house. This job cost 7880. The last was the just completed redo of my bathroom: ceramic tile floor; install of ceiling fan/light; restoring a so-called closet to an open alcove; installing new vanity/medicine cabinet/light; toilet; painting and putting in new trim.

Amil came out and gave us an estimate based on a compete tear off of the old roof, high tech underlayment and high quality shingles. He was polite and professional and suggested some good ideas for our unique roofing situation. He had a discount coupon and also had a special offer on new gutters. Back at the office Leslie helped us pick out a good color of shingles to go with our 2 level log cabin. The roofing crew was also polite and professional. They protected our hostas and other plants with tarps and sawhorses. The crew used safety gear and were insured. Nate, the crew leader, answered any questions I had during the roofing process. The roof looks great along with the trim around vents and a skylight window. Clean up was well done, after a walk around the house I didn't find anything in the yard or on the driveway. The seamless gutter crew also did an excellent job and had good suggestions for proper drainage. I would definitely recommend Amil and Blue Line Remodeling.

Blue Line was very responive and professional with their bid/qoute. I did see some of their work and it appeared to be high quality.
Description of Work: We were in a real pinch as we needed a bathroom done before our family was to arrive for the Holidays and the contractor that I normally use lost his electrician and plumber and said that they could not finish our bathroom project on time. So I called Blue Line and they were able to put together a quote in a punctional and professional manner with a fair price. Turns out my regular contractor was able to find another electrician and plumber and did finish project on time. But my experience with Blue Line was very positive.

Over the past two years we have had Blue Line put in hard wood floors / tile, finish the basement (adding 1200 square feet to the house and an additional bedroom and bath) , and most recently replaced the roof. During all of these renovations Amil and his crew have been nothing short of outstanding. From the first estimate thru the completion of each job, Amil has been there to answer any questions or respond to anything we have needed. After replacing the roof I located a nail in my yard. The next day I awoke to find Amil searching the driveway and yard, for a second time, for any additional nails. Amil’s estimates have always been less then his competitors, while still using superior materials. The work has always been finished on time. Amil will use any means to make sure the job is done right and within the budget. Amil has even done work for my parents who do not live in the area. Amil runs a every ethical business in a line of work where it is common for businesses to take advantage of the customer. We could not be happier with the outcome of the renovations and would highly recommend Amil and Blue Line to do any job.
Description of Work: Over the past two years Blue Line has put in hardwood floors / ceramic tiles, finish a basement and replaced a roof. We have spent over $50,000.00 with Blue Line during this time.

Blue Line Remodeling not only repaired the damage but did it using superior materials and adding some special touches that actually left my home in better condition than before the tree fell on it for less than what my insurance adjuster quoted. My insurance company (Progressive) sent out a third party adjuster about three days after the storm and estimated that the cost to repair the damage was about $7,600.00. He was pretty thorough but made sure I understood that his estimate was to restore my home to it's original condition before the tree fell on it. Overall, I had nine contractors come out to give me estimates. Some, when they asked me what my insurance adjuster set the cost of repair at quit taking measurements and notes but continued to walk around and said they would get back to me with their estimates. Most never did. Others, like Sir Homes just said, There is no way I can touch this for under eleven thousand dollars and then boasted about the hundreds of return customers he had and he really didn't do insurance work anyway and left. Out of those nine contractors I only received two estimates. Blue Line Remodeling LLC. was one of those two and the only one to meet or come in under Progressive's quote. When Amil Alwan came out to survey the damage he never asked what my insurance adjuster quoted. In fact, when I tried giving him a copy of the estimate when he was through with his evaluation he tried to decline saying that I could give it to him after he gave me his estimate and that he really shouldn't see it until then. I insisted stating that no one has been able to repair the damage at the price Progressive set, yet. So, he reluctantly took the estimate and told me that he would email me his estimate on Monday being it was a Friday. By this time, approximately three weeks after the storm I just thought, we'll see. During his assessment of the damage he kept asking things like, do I want 3D shingles rather than the 3 in 1s that I have now, do I want aluminum fascia to cover my existing wood fascia, do I want a saddle on my chiminey to divert the water, do I want one piece seamless gutters to replace my vinyl ones, would I like synthetic underlayment instead of the existing felt and more. Always stating that these changes are a lot better and why than the existing materials. I would always say, yes but I doubt my insurance company would pay the extra money for the improvements. Other contractors also made these suggestions but always added that it would increase the cost and that I may have to pay for some of it myself. When I asked Amil, he would always state that they should be able to provide these things w/o having to really increase the cost . Well, Monday came and surprise, surprise Amil sent me his estimate. Not only did he send it when he said he would but it was approximately $1,400.00 less than the cost set by Progressive. Now I'm thinking, you know what they say, "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is". So, I contacted his references and the places that supplied his materials and they couldn't stop telling me how professional, prompt, dependable, and honest he was and that his workers were always on time, very courteous, were willing to work around your schedule, never left a mess, hard workers, completed the job on time and very high quality workmanship . The reports were so glowing that I felt no need to stop by a couple of the job sites he gave me that he had completed or was currently working on. So, I hired them and found out that everything people said about them was true and he came through with every improvement he suggested without increasing his price. I was able to observe most of their work and were very couteous when answering all of my questions even though I could see that I was slowing them down. Unlike most, Alwin and his crew are more concerned about quality work than getting the largest profit margin possible. They could have made an extra $1400 and I still would have been ecstatic about the job he did, "Exteriors of Kalamazoo" (a company that didn't give me a written estimate) told me if I didn't hire them I would be making a mistake. If hiring Blue Line Remodeling was a mistake then I hope I make more mistakes like this in the future. Call them, you won't be disappointed.
Description of Work: July 11, 2011 during a bad storm with high winds a large tree fell on my house creating damage to my roof, trusses, eaves, soffit, gutter, exterior wall and kitchen ceiling and cabinets. Blue Line Remodeling LLC. completed the work within the cost parameters that Progressive Insurance set when nobody else could. If I had to change anything it would be that I had called them first instead of wasting three weeks interveiwing companies that were more interested in getting as much money as they could out of each job rather than doing the best job they could at a fair price.
