Miraculous, every time I look at their work, I am amazed. They fixed it! They fixed a botched job another company did and I am so impressed with the quality and craftsmanship of Father & Son Construction. My front porch looks awesome now.

They did fine work but I was quite upset with them because they did a few jobs and then they stopped and they blamed the manager in charge. They said he wasn't up to snuff. I had to wait over a year to get all these different jobs done. I asked them if they could take off some of the costs because of the delay. They wouldn't do it. I'd never go with them again put it that way. 10 or 15 years ago we had them do a job and they were great. They came out and re-did this whole cabana. They rebuilt it. They did a fantastic job but things have changed since then, I guess.

I explained how I wanted the patio to be shaped to the designer; he took very thorough notes and measurements, then provided an estimate on the spot. He pushed to get the contract signed on the spot, but I was ready to proceed and was happy with the price. Getting callbacks when we had questions was hit or miss, but the crew showed up when they were supposed to, and they were very efficient. They brought a load of dirt to pile over a low tree stump between my front and back yards to get their wheelbarrow over, though they left the mound of dirt behind. Overall, the crew did an excellent job on the cement; it is exactly as we designed, properly pitched, and looks really great. I'm very satisfied, and would have them do work again.

On the first scheduled estimate on a Saturday morning, the guy was a no call, no show. I called the F&S answering service and left a message, three hours later, I had still not received a call back and I called again. Mat finally called me back and we scheduled another estimate for the following Saturday. The following Saturday the guy showed up and did an estimate of my finished basement, which had been ruined by the Royal Oak flood. Here is the estimate: "Tear out the rest of the wall, frame in new wall and drywall, redo up to 20 plugs, install new ceiling, new toilet and vanity, tile complete basement, paint drywall, the city may require us to install an egress window if do the price for everything is $28754.00 if they let us grandfather the egress price is $21254.00 thank you for considering father and son" They were basically quoting me $30k with absolutely no explanation, so I requested a breakdown. I got this: Tear out $500,Walls $1500,Pluming $2500,Electric $5000,Drywall $2184,Ceiling $2560,Tile $2860, Clean up $350, Plans permits $500, Over head and profit $2000, Egress window $7500 Good thing I inquired because there was absolutely no plumbing required for this job other than attaching the pipe under the sink and they added in $2,500 (I did not need a new toilet, but even with that included, it still should have only been a couple hundred, not a couple thousand). Further, they were charging me $250 per electrical plug installed. Absurd!! (I later got a quote from an electrician for $50 per plug) I then researched egress windows online, most would be around $2,000, and the most expensive on the very outside, if they had to really dig deep, would be $5,000. Father and Son just tacked another $2,500 on top of that. I then had a conference call with the estimator and Mat. When I inquired about the basis for the electrical quote they just became very hostile and aggressive. They said something like: "Well if you want the cheapest..." I was like, nooooo, I just want to know what you are basing this quote on. Overall, the experience was terrible. I just feel like they wasted my time, two Saturdays in a row! I can't help but feel that because I am a woman, they just assumed I was clueless and gave me a ridiculous quote. They did not handle this in a professional manner at all. I would be very leery of having work performed with this type of quote. You would never be able to determine the actual price or what you and they are agreeing to. Plus, their prices were literally pulled out of thin air.
Description of Work: The gave me an estimate with basically no breakdown, just a number.

This homeowner has went to every Social site with the same complaint. This time, she decided not to use an Alias (unlike the other sites where she calls herself Lucy). About the only truth to this report is that we missed the Initial sales call thanks to a technical problem with a cellphone. After that...well, you be the judge. Lets address each one of her misgivings: Regarding her claim that there was no plumbing should have been a part of her quote...the plumbing which she asked for was explained to her on several different occasions...in our quote, we were quoting a new toilet, vanity, countertop, faucet, and plumbing permit. She keeps insisting that she did not ask for any plumbing, but she did and that was part of her quote. When a basement floods, there is more to changing just the plug...ask any licensed Electrician. We quoted her to rewire the plugs as well as an Electrical permit. So she takes our quote, calls an Electrician on the phone (He never saw what we saw), and asks him how much to change a plug. That is like calling a car dealership and asking them "How much for a Jeep". If she can find a company that legitimately can put in a Egress window for $2,000....good luck....the materials required to do the job are almost that much...without labor. This homeowner has not compared quotes like one should. We also had to block her from calling our cell phones because of all of her harassing calls. But again, she will play the victim and make it appear that we wasted her time even though we had tried to explain numerous times about the differences in the quotes as well as justifying our numbers.

Father & Sons boy oh boy. Service rep. Kip @the1st. Meeting spent most of his time belittling the other companies rep. & claims of how long they have been in business. Finally told him he better sale father & sons & stop worrying about the other job est. he then wanted to see the other est. to check their prices & other items listed, I told him NO, just put yours together & give us a price. He had to go back to his office to do that, with little to no notes. He got over 50% wrong we straighten him out with my notes. I should be the one receiving a commission check not that fool He took no notes, none! I'm ex law enforcement, I took my own notes thank God. He for got we wanted the front porch longer by an extra 8 feet! Pretty important I think. Said we only wanted the front of the house resided. I walked him around the job site & questioned him on his opinion of how this would look like Crap with just the front being done.@ this point the only reason I not sending on his way with a swift kick in his butt is the word that the subcontractors are really good @ what they do. Kip forgot to request if we wanted that white foam sheets to add a little insulation the Jerk did not even think to ask @ this point their still in the price range. I call to complain about kiip I was to he had poor hand writing due to a close head injury ?. I can feel for that BUT whem were talking 14,000.00 job I their d*** prices. If they/he did not get a trash bin to toss all the wood debris, nails, steaks chunks is cement all kind of debris. did not give them straight because some of it would reflect on their contractors actually doing the job. Anyone looking at this review could probably figure out what we were dealing with...a homeowner that was less than clear in their communication. Yes, we did this job. The homeowner found a new material that even the Vendor did not have pricing on at the time. We explained that to the homeowner and told him that once we received the price for the material, we could quote the job. The medication had this homeowner forgetting and calling the office time and time again. We offered a full refund of his deposit because we could see that he was not a good fit for the Company. He said "You're not getting out of it that easy". We were not trying to get out of anything. We felt that no matter what we did, this job was going to be difficult. In the end, when we completed the contract, he loved the work...so much so that you can see that he tried to deal with our trades directly and when they refused, he just got more and more angry. He states that he would not use our Company again...well, that is false because he called us time and time again to do more work. He is on a VERY short list of people that we will never work for again...that list is only 4 or 5 people long and they are databased in our computer. So every time that he has called us since, we have refused and told him that we feel it is in the best interest of all parties involved that he go elsewhere. No one likes negative reports on their Company, but he is just too difficult to deal with. Our trades wanted to walk off the job and they know if they do that, termination of their contract with our Company is Automatic. So they suffered through this project with someone that continued to harass everyone involved. Now we will ever work for this homeowner again as once was enough...we do not wish to be crude, but again, read what he wrote and form your own opinion as to the character of this individual.

After inquiring on Angies List, we were contacted within a couple of hours and the woman was very nice on the phone. She set up an appointment for the next day for someone (Kip) to come out and look at our deck. 30 minutes before Kip was to come out, he called and told us he wanted $350 to look at our deck. He said that Fand S does not do repair work, but will replace what is damaged. He gave an example that they will not repair a leak in a roof, but will replace the entire roof. Kip told us that with all the water damage in the area, he could run 100 estimates a day, but that would not make them any money. I told Kip that we did not know if the deck needed to be repaired or replaced (could be $40,000), but we wanted him to come out and tell us what he can do for us. Kip did not seem to care one way or the other, and seemed bothered that we called. We won't be contacting Fand S again. UPDATE: 1) I told Kip on the phone that we did not know if the deck needed repair or replace and he flat out told me he wanted $350 to come out and look at our deck. Kip told me that because of all the water damage in the area, he could run a hundred estimates a day, but that would not make them any money. Does that sound like something I would make up? To call me a liar in this matter is ummmmmm, expected I guess. 2) and quot; This home has what appears to be mold issues and Kip gave his best remedy to solve the problemand quot;... .wrong!!.....We NEVER mentioned anything about MOLD and Kip NEVER came to the house, nor did I send any pictures. 3) and quot; The homeowner did not like what he heard and asked Kip to leaveand quot;.... WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!!!...Kip NEVER came to the house!! How did I ask Kip to leave when I have never met him?? Whoever is writing these replies for Fand S really needs to get their facts straight. 3) and quot;Though unfortunate that this homeowner decided to give us such a low rating, we would rather accept that rather than to and quot;patchand quot; the problem and hope for the bestand quot;... KIP NEVER came out to see the problem, so how does anyone know if it should be patched or replaced? How can you patch something when you don't even know the problem? 4) and quot; Face it, sometimes we all do not like to hear the and quot;issuesand quot; that we are dealing with...such as a health diagnosis or a repair, and we seek other advice. But to complain because of a problem that we did not create is simply unfair. We wish this customer the best in their efforts to go forward and fix the problem that can potentially lead to health issues, but we will not :put a band aidand quot; on a bursting d***....... HEALTH ISSUES? We have a deck off of the master bedroom that has water damage and cracked cement. What does that have anything to do with health issues? 5) I thought no job was to big and no job was too small? Our deck was built for about $40k and we are prepared to repair or replace the deck. Perhaps if we sent in a check for $40k someone will come out to take a look at our deck and give us an estimate?

After asking Kip about this report, he had told us that he never asked the customer for $350. Our estimates are free as long as it is for home improvement (not Insurance repairs or grants because we do not do that type of work) and as long as we can meet with all of the homeowners so that we can explain our position and answer all questions in one sitting so everyone can make an informed decision. We do not have "Handymen" that work for us...everyone is a specialist in their respective trade. This home has what appears to be mold issues and Kip gave his best remedy to solve the problem. The homeowner did not like what he heard and asked Kip to leave. Though unfortunate that this homeowner decided to give us such a low rating, we would rather accept that rather than to "patch" the problem and hope for the best. We simply won't do that. Face it, sometimes we all do not like to hear the "issues" that we are dealing with...such as a health diagnosis or a repair, and we seek other advice. But to complain because of a problem that we did not create is simply unfair. This was really quite useless. The rep did not seem to know what was in the and quot;dealand quot; I purchased. I ended up receiving a terrible, and silly drawing of a kitchen layout. Not at all what I expected. The rep was quite dismissive of me when I presented my ideas - as unworkable. I ultimately was able to incorporate all the ideas he dismissed when I re-did the kitchen with Ikea cabinets and Ikea's great interactive planning program.Basically this was a waste of money.

There is a big difference between a full set of Blueprints with detailed information as opposed to a basic kitchen layout. Given the fact that this report is based on something that happened over 2 years ago, I cannot go back and ask the salesperson about more detail. Had the member contacted our office and expressed disappointment with the representative, there is no doubt that we could have addressed it at that time instead of waiting more than 2 years to write a negative report. I am sorry that we did not meet their expectations....but then again, we were not aware of that until more than 2 years later.

I just got off the phone with F and S, and I have to admit I'm a little disappointed. After years of hearing the jingle for Father and Sons Construction (We do it allll) I was excited to be able to use them. But after speaking with two Representatives from the company I can't say that I'll be using them. We have a bit of a unique situation where and quot;the other person on the titleand quot; works Midnights, and is ready to go to sleep when she gets home. I explained this to both people I talked with from F and S. But they both insisted that and quot;the other person on the titleand quot; be present. And even though the second person I talked to said that they would come out, I still could not get him to set the appointment until I could guarantee the other person could be present. It's a shame because I need the work done, but if they don't work Midnights, they should be more understanding.

The young man who came out from Father and Son was very knowledgeable and polite. He called ahead to make sure we were home for his visit, and came when he said he would. He showed a bunch of pictures of Father and Son's work, and was very anxious to sign us up for future jobs. The task at hand was small- adding an 8 foot long wooden railing at the top of our stairway. He looked at the location, then sat down to write an estimate. We asked for quotes with the company doing the final staining and painting, as well as leaving it unfinished for us to stain and paint on our own. Everything was great until he came up with numbers! The complete railing, including the finishing, would cost more than $6000. If we did the finishing it would still be more than $4000. The man told us that Father and Son did and quot;Cadillacand quot; work, and that they would cost more than other companies because of that. I guess he didn't notice that we live in a very and quot;Chevyand quot; house! He was not pleased that we wanted to get other estimates. I am sure that Father and Son could have done good work for us. If they had really wanted our business, though, they would have presented costs more appropriate to the work we wanted done. The materials for this project cost just over $200 if purchased at Home Depot. $3800 or so for a few hours work (tops) is unbelievable!

After asking all of our current salespeople about this report, no one can recall or remember quoting this job. There is not a name and date associated with this report. There is also no record of this address in our computer system. Maybe this appointment was from over 7 years ago when we had a different computer system that is no longer being used. I really cannot properly answer a report like this unless I have more knowledge of the particulars – what type of wood railing, the estimator that was out to this home (if indeed this member contacted our company) and so forth. The price stated does seem high for a railing job, but again, I cannot make comments on a report that we have been unable to trace. We would invite this member to contact us if they have any questions or concerns that we may be able to assist with.

Father and Son was hired on October 10, 2012, at that time we were told we would hear from someone within two weeks regarding a start date. We received a letter in the mail at the end of the two week time frame stating the and quot;project mangerand quot; would be in touch with us regarding a start date- three days later we received a call stating the blue prints were being worked-on and someone would be in touch with us. SEVERAL WEEKS later we received a call stating permits needed to be pulled and someone would be in contact with us to schedule a time to go over blue prints. SEVERAL WEEKS (Wednesday before Thanksgiving) later upon a follow up call by myself I was informed that the permits had been issued and the project manager and estimator would be coming to my house to go over final plans and answer any questions. During that meeting we were told once work started (which would be end of that week start of next week) the job would be done in 7-10 days. The first day of work went REALLY well-demolition of our wall took place, all heating and cooling work was done and the master closet was built. I was impressed- that was a lot of work for one day-I thought at that time we certainly hired the right company for the job. Sure, it took A LONG time to get work started but now that it was started it was MOVING! Next step was electrical work-electrician was beyond amazing...actually the heating and cooling crew, electrician and demolition, carpentry crew were ALL amazing. All inspections happened in a very timely manner and everything passed with flying colors. Next step...drywall-here is where things go down the drain. Dry waller (one person crew) shows up at my house and needs assistance from my husband carrying all the drywall into the home from his truck. Oh his truck-an old work truck that leaked oil and left a huge oil stay in the middle of the driveway of my brand new home. Dry waller did NOT put down down any drop clothes like the other crews, walked through my entire house with dirty shoes (drywall dust, mud) leaving foot prints up and down my stair way and through my halls. At the end of his work day he asked if he could come back and work on Sunday morning..we thought that was kinda strange but figured whatever it took to get job DONE. He said he would be there by 10 in the morning...didn't show up until 10:30 worked until 11:45 and said he was done for day and would come back another day. We rearranged our whole Sunday so he could work for an hour and fifteen minutes!?! A call to Father and Son was made regarding his respect for our home and the hours worked we were told it would be taken care of...THEY PROMISED! The dry waller showed up again the Wednesday before Christmas and one other day after Christmas to finish the job....so we thought. We hired a professional painter to start painting on January 5th since our new master bedroom was finally complete..remember we are now THREE MONTHS into a and quot;minor remodeland quot;. Painter showed up could only work for 3 hours of his eight hour day because the drywall work was so bad he could not paint over it. IE: The ceiling was already falling down, cracking and seams splitting. We still had to pay painter for full hours because of other jobs he missed! Father and Son was immediately contacted they sent someone to our house (new drywall guy) on January 8th who spent an entire eight hour day fixing the drywall-he himself could NOT believe the way the first drywall job was done in our home! So here we are January 14th and the job is FINALLY done, Father and Son has had no explanations and has done NOTHING to compensate for our time, inconvenience or hassle...they have done NOTHING expect say and quot;Sorry, we thought the job was going welland quot;. So I guess the bottom line is if you don't mind being inconvenienced for MONTHS at a time, don't mind your home being disrespected by some of their crews, and paying TOP DOLLAR for shotty work at best than Father and Son is the company for you...otherwise save yourself a lot of stress and hire a different company!!

$6,500
Response from Father & Son Construction Co
Member claimed that this cost was $6,500 incorrectly as it totaled $5,276 Their contract was dated October 10, 2012. Their city required blueprints and permits (even though it was a nonbearing wall to be removed) –their job was measured, blueprints were drawn and permit was applied for November 14, 2012. Permit was issued and blueprints (Approx. 2 weeks) were gone over with homeowner on November 26, 2012. The homeowner told us that they purchased a lockbox so we could have access all the time to have this job completed in the time that we had quoted. We told them that we could bring our own lockbox and they could take theirs back to the store for a credit. Also, if they could not be there for the crews, one of the parents lived close enough to come over. But after the first day of the job, they stated that we could not use the lockbox like they had originally promised and had to work around their schedule…whenever someone could be home because the noise upset their dogs and that was the only days that her husband did not have to work. We informed them that the job was now going to take a lot longer. “It is what it is,” was her response. All 4 city inspections also had to be done in those 2 days per week. We could not drywall until a rough inspection was done – again we could work 2 days per week. Sure enough, the wife started complaining about how long the job was taking. We arranged to have our drywaller work on a Sunday – they seemed shocked that we would work on a Sunday, but we wanted to complete the job as quick as possible. There was a car accident that caused our drywaller to be a half hour late – he should have called, but homeowner started passing judgment on his looks, his vehicle, and his work attire. His vehicle did leak oil but he placed a board beneath it to avoid issues with driveway. Her husband offered our drywaller a hand to carry up the drywall –( her husband is a super nice guy )– our installer always work alone – but this member neglected to say it was her husband that offered a hand to help carry the drywall to the second floor. She was not present when her husband offered the drywaller a hand to assist with carrying in the drywall so maybe she just assumed that the drywaller asked him for help??? The following Monday, this member screamed for 20 minutes on the phone about the drywaller. Her rants were all over the place but they were all about this drywaller (who has worked for us for 20 plus years) so we offered a to send over a different installer, she refused – hindsight, we should have done it as she already “profiled” the installer. We realize that not everyone "gets along with everyone" and some times a different face can make all the difference. Her answer was still NO. Again, working days that were very limited to their schedule (per her instruction) – job was done – painter found some flaws in our drywallers work (and we admit that this was not his best job). The painter left and said to call him when the repair was done. This member had her husband call on Monday – we sent a different person to touch up the drywall the very next day. The husband had mentioned about the painter needing to be compensated for his time....we will address that later in this follow up. Her claim about the new drywaller being in disbelief about job quality is false – again, she was not there during those repairs and we spoke to Danny about the repairs and he said she wasn’t around when he was there so he has no idea where that claim came from. Her claim that “nothing” was done to compensate for their time – 100% false – we paid for their painter’s for the entire weekend that he could not work and have documents to prove that – again, she was not there when we settled up with her husband. If there was a way to upload those documents, I would so that you can see all of her false claims are just that. Her Grades for us: Overall was an F………She loved EVERY trade but the drywaller. She even called our Electrician after hours one night when she had a problem with a separate circuit in her home (nothing to do with the job that we had done). He went over there the very next day and took care of it. Price was a C….she listed an incorrect amount of what they paid and we have the documents to prove that. Quality was a C…..Again, everyone was “wonderful” except the first drywaller. Responsiveness was an F….we handled her complaints about the drywaller, offered to change drywallers mid job, and compensated their painter for his time. What more can be said for that? Punctuality was a B….but her biggest complaint was the amount of time that the job took????? Professionalism was a C…..it was her husband that had the most interaction with us…but”it is what it is”. We are not perfect, we strive to be, but no one is 100%. Our reputation means the world to us and when it is unfairly tarnished with unfair claims such as this one, we feel the need to set the record straight. Rest assured, her biased exaggerated claims against the drywaller are just that. The previous review by another Angie’s List member raved about the work that was done by the drywaller that this member was unhappy with (and again, it was not his best work on this job and we have reported this issue to him).
We had Fand S come out to help us fix up a DIY project involving a walk through closet area in our master bedroom (it had been sitting unfinished for 8 years). The quoting process was super easy, Darrin was awesome and wrote out everything we discussed. After trying for 3 weeks to even get anyone else outto quote the project (no one would even call us back) I was able to talk my husband into moving forward with Fand S. Darrin and Mat came out to do a walk through befoew the work even began so that we wee on the same page, Mat was open and honest with us that since we didn't want to start from scratch his crew would do everything they could to make it look like a professional started and finished the job. (Side note, my husband did the original drywall and there were many areas where it was crooked or not lining up at all). As soon as the drywaller came out he started repairing/ replacing the previous work as need, even after that first day I could see a major difference. The electrician came out to do some minor fixes with the outlets and a ceiling fan, and the flooring crew made out beat up floor look like it was just laid down. After the drywall work was done (by the way he fixed even the smallest imperfections that someone else might have skipped) and all the molding and trim was put up you would never know that we had tried to start the project as do it yourselfers. The team was able to fix all of our errors and give a beautiful closet area that I am truly proud of. I can't stop showing people the pictures and I want to invite people over just to show it off. Everyone was super professional and even called me the night before they were coming by so I could put my dog in daycare on the days they were working. I would definitely call them again and pass their name on to anyone that asked.

This will explain it all: We called them back to do a minor repair in a different part of the house, and they said it would cost $5,000 to fix it. We called a different person for a second quote -- and he offered to do it for $200. We chose the second guy, he did a great job, and did it perfectly in a day. Just saying.
Description of Work: We had a complete basement remodel and they did a decent job. It was very, very expensive, however.

I like their professionalism. The sales process is easy. The sub-contractors they use are hand picked and have been working for their company for many years.

It would be tough to find a more professional bunch. These guys are super squared away. My job required masonry work, framing, carpentry, drywall and A/C unit installation. Each crew was polite, informative, and very skilled at what they did. The crew that did the actual A/C unit install went as far as inspecting the new units I had purchased online for damage from shipping. To me this is above and beyond and is indicative of folks who really care. The same crew actually READ the A/C unit installation directions and FOLLOWED them to a and quot;Tand quot;. Let me begin this next paragraph and talk about the after work clean up. It was as if they were never there. I even joked with the crew about their prep work, stating it looked like a clean room you'd see in the computer or hospital industry. No kidding folks it was as if they were never there. In closing, the estimator was on time, polite and very knowledgable. If something changed the estimate, he explained it and put it all in writing. Father and Son isn't going to be your cheapest estimate, but folks, you get what you pay for, and they stand behind it.........and I even got a Christmas card! Thanks again and I'll be calling you soon for another job.
Description of Work: I needed two very large A/C units installed. These were the window type A/C units but were wall mounted vs. window mounted. Father and Son's crew had to cut a rectangle hole in a brick wall, frame it up, and install the downstairs A/C unit. Upstairs we had an existing hole which needed to be enlarged to accommodate the larger unit.
Fand S was the last of 7 bids I took. They came out and it took them over a week to get me a quote and they promised to email me, but could only find the time to leave me a voicemail a week later with their quotes. I have never seen such ridiculous pricing in all my life. It was criminal! They wanted up to 7 times more money to perform the same projects as other companies. I thought because they had been around so long I could count on them. This makes me wonder how they have survived. I am so angry with the unprofessionalism I experienced. Crooks, plain and simple!
Description of Work: I had several project that needed to be completed in my house: Painting, drywall, tile, bathroom exhaust fan ventilation, etc. I needed quotes on everything.

This homeowner called us on July 6th and we saw him on the 8th. He was in a hurry because he was lining up multiple bids at once and would not sit down with our estimator. This person asked that we call him with a price. We did that on July 11th. He wanted 8 interior doors replaced, 1 pocket door, and 2 Bifold doors. The price that we quoted was $2,850. He wanted fieldstone added to the home and our price was $3,906. As far as the price for the bathroom work...The tearout, New tile on the floor, a new toilet, a medicine cabinet, drywall, and ceramic around the tub was $3,537. Hardly 7 times the price of his estimates. All of that work was going to be done by our company was LEAD SAFE in accordance with the RRP rules set forth by the EPA that we are bound by. Any contractor that cares to not only follow the new guidelines and protect the occupants of the home MUST adhere to the EPA's guidelines. With that said, his home was built in 1955 and he wanted the LOWEST price. I'd be willing to bet that he never bothered to shop comparitively...he wanted the cheapest person available. Had he said that from the initial call, we could have informed him that we probably were not the company for him. He wonders how we could survive for over 40 years....it isn't by being the cheapest, it is our goal to be the BEST. You can't be both. We don't send "Jack of all trades" to a customer's home....we send professionals that specialize in each of their professions. And we have licensed HVAC, Electricians, and plumbers. Our reputation for with the people that want the difference speaks for itself. Don't take my word for it, ask a Father & Son Construction customer about their experience. When shopping for the cheapest price, you open the door to be ripped off.....or you have issues after the construction that go unresolved. You never know how great (or bad) the work will be until it is all said and done. The News runs story after story about homeowners that shop like this member did.....and you have seen the end result.

Father and Son performed the job flawlessly. Estimates were accurate and fair. The worked performed was quality and the workers were alway on time and reported exactly when they said they would. Each worker was well trained and knew exactly what to do, all construction trash was picked up and my home was left as clean as when they found it. I highly recommend Father and Son and would hire them again. The cost was alittle more than expected, however you get what you pay for when having this type of work performed. Thanks again Father and Son for a job well done.

Thank you for your kind words regarding the experience that you recently had with our company. You were a pleasure to work with and we value you business. May your new Air Conditioners keep you cool in these hot summer months! We appreciate your patronage!
Our experience was that though the plans said one thing, for example 'tear off and new roof', they said that that isn't what was supposed to happen and that we had to pay more at every turn. The quality of the work is average at best. The workers opened the back of our home, didn't secure it properly, then went hunting so work was stalled for almost 2 full weeks. We were so happy to see them leave... and it was a 6 month long project. The best part of the project was my closet in the master bedroom. That turned out just fine, but everything else was a disappointment.
Description of Work: We had a home remodel done by this company. This included bringing the family room and sunroom up to the first floor level, adding 6 feet of space across the 2nd floor with a second floor bathroom remodel. It included roofing of home as well as garage. The Master bedroom was a combination of the 2 lower level bedrooms.

Responding to this 11 year old report is challenging at best. We shred all of our files after 8 years to protect our client's information. Given that this job was done 11 years ago, I had hoped that some of our personnel may shed light on it. The Supervisor of this project left in 2006 and the salesperson retired at the end of last year. We were able to find an old computer record of this job in our archives. At the time that this job took place, we had a backlog of remodeling projects so we decided to branch out and hire another Rough Carpentry crew. We interviewed them, checked their references, and looked at their workmanship. Everything seemed to check out. Even with all of the safeguards in place, they fell short of our expectations and we parted ways after this project. Unfortunately, this does little to repair any bad feelings that this member has for our company. I am interested in the "changes" that came about. We have always had a long standing policy that any changes in a project must be approved in writing by the homeowner and the company. The only exception would be a Building Code that necessitates a change to the project. Also, this project would have required a Blueprint which would have been signed at the time of the plan review (preconstruction). 11 years have gone by since we were at this project so there is little that could be done to rectify an injustice. Had we known about this in a timely manner, we could have done everything within reason to address the situation. We encourage feedback (positive or negative) so that we can continue to exceed a customer's expectations. Fortunately, we do receive a lot more positive than negative feedback, but we take it all to heart. Thank you for taking the time to read our response to this report.

I got an email from Angie's List offering a special "3D Kitchen Design" from this company for ONLY $50!!!!! The company representative arrived on time and started talking about lay outs and new windows and counter tops and made some measurments while I looked at pictures of cabinets. He finished and said the results would be back in a few days and he'd let me know. He called back and the time he was driving by wasn't convenient for me, so he said he'd drop them off in my mail box and we could follow up. Fine I said. I realize now that I wasn't sure what a "3D kitchen design" would be, but I was shocked to see three pages of black and white photo copies of a simple line drawing of cabinets, and measurements for cabinets. In the middle of the page it listed the name of the cabinet manufacturer and $15,000. I called confused and asked him to explain what I was looking at. Did the $15,000 include the granite countertops, the vinyl floor and even the new window he discussed quoting for me? He said it didn't include the floor, and he'd get back to me with the window quote. He never called me back. About a month later, someone from his company called and left a message to follow up. I did not return the call. I don't plan on wasting my time speaking with people from this company. The other day I referred back to my $50 3D kitchen design to see if it was at all helpful as I make plans for a kitchen remodel and found that THE MEASUREMENTS HE MADE FOR MY KITCHEN WERE WRONG!!!!!!!!!! Off by ten inches on one side! If the cabinets he had designed were put in, they would take up half the doorway!!

Angie’s List contacted Father & Son Construction so we could offer an opportunity for their members to receive a 3-D kitchen design for $50. We worked hand in hand with representatives at Angie’s List so no member would be mislead on what they would receive for the money. Furthermore, we went over this offer in our sale’s meeting in order to iron out any confusion that our representative’s may have with this offer. Mike (our sales rep.) met with this homeowner at the scheduled appointment time and went over her design to complete a new layout. I have all of Mike’s measurements as well as the design from the cabinet company on hand. We normally do not simply “drop off” plans and place a price on them, but our representative was having difficulty in meeting with this member to go over the details. According to our representative, he did try to contact this member to provide a window price for her…being that we offer several different types of replacement windows, we wanted to know if she wanted wood, vinyl, fiberglass, or a clad replacement window but he never heard back from her. After reviewing Mike’s measurements, the cabinet company did make an error on a cabinet dimension that affected the overall layout. Had we been able to meet with this member, we could have addressed it right then and there. We are still willing to provide a revised layout for her. Had this project moved forward, this mistake would have been noted and the cabinets would have been revised accordingly. When I read this report, I was disappointed that there is a member that has hard feelings with our company. I printed the report and shared it with our sales manager (Bob) so that we could make this right. Bob tried to contact this member on March 3,6, and 7th to offer either a reduced price on this job or a full refund of her $50 for the design (as well as a corrected version of the layout). We have left messages and have never heard back. I will stand by this offer so if she is reading this, she can contact us and we will act accordingly.
