Tim arrived ontime (actually, early) with his apprentice and got right to work. We had five small projects and a few new ones that they handled quickly and expertly. Tim even diagonsed a non-working ceiling light (claimed by another "master" electrican to be a broken fixture) as a broken wall switch. Tim fixed that too and voila - light! He also explained how to install some canned lighting we bought. Very helpful. We were very pleased with Dean Electric and will unequivocally call them again for any project - large or small - we have.

Our entire experience with Dean Electric was nothing short of fantastic. Tim was professional, knowledgeable, on time, and extremely helpful. While he did make useful suggestions, he never once sounded like a salesman trying to sell us services or products we didn't want or need. In fact, he actually let us know that some of the things we thought we needed done really weren't necessary, and would only add to our bill. Response time between our first call to Dean and when Tim was able to make it out for our first estimate was excellent. All of my calls were returned promptly and emails were replied to in a timely manner. Communication was great. Jim, the electrician, was also fantastic. He was professional, patiently answered all the questions this new homeowner had, and efficient. The quality of the work performed is superb. As a side note, an often overlooked aspect of any job involving a contractor is cleanliness; both during the job and afterwards. Many holes were drilled, wires were trimmed and stripped, plaster was cut, and many other generally messy projects were completed with a "clean as you go" mentality, which both my pregnant wife and I appreciated. By the time they were done and gone, you'd never know just how much work had been completed, or that they were ever even here, for that matter. Overall, we are very glad we chose Dean Electric for our projects. Ironically enough, we chose them in part due to the already numerous positive reviews right here on Angie's List. We still have more items on our list to complete, and will surely be using Dean Electric for those projects. We appreciated their professionalism, quality of work, and their willingness to work around/with our specific needs.
Description of Work: Replaced/updated main service panel, installed a bathroom vent fan, replaced old receptacles with proper types, many other various projects to bring our old, outdated electrical system up to Code.

When I had a question about how my outdoor outlet was working, they inspected it for free. I had them give me quotes for work in 2014 - I had the quotes a day after the estimator reviewed the work I wanted done. There was no hard sell - I was able to evaluate the quote and decide if the price was right.
Description of Work: My phone calls get answered! They fixed a short that prevented several lights and outlets in my condo from working properly. Found and fixed the problem within an hour. Also fixed an outdoor outlet.

Electrician was very friendly about the fact one issue he checked out was because of a dirty fan, not an electric issue. Recommended low cost replacement of switches for fans with CFLs in them instead of much more expensive upgrade to new dimmer switches that can handle CFLs. Was friendly but not too talkative, wore protective shoe coverings, showed up on time, and explained items. Would definitely use again.

Lost power to my washer and dryer. With a house full of guests the laundry was piling up quickly. Called Dean Electric 1st thing Thursday morning, and they came out early afternoon. The machines have been going ever since. We had a bad wire going to one of the outlets, replaced it and we are in good shape. Mike, the service man was timely and explained what had happened.

Over the past six months light switches and a socket in my breakfast nook light fixture had broken down. I was waiting until I had enough work to make full use of an electrician service call. I bought a new light fixture just in case the existing one could not be repaired. Mike arrived on time, assessed the situation and quickly got to work. He replaced my broken light switches with the new ones I had bought. He was able to fix the sockets in my breakfast nook light fixture (tightened set screws and replaced a missing screw), so didn't need to install the new fixture (which I didn't like as much as my old fixture anyway). Answered some miscellaneous electrical questions that I had, plus gave an assessment of what would be involved in installing a new outside wall outlet, I highly recommend this company and will use them for my future electrical needs.
Description of Work: Installed 2 dimmer switches and regular switch. Repaired dining area light fixture sockets.

After being told by a few different electrical contractors that they were too busy to provide service in less than 2 weeks, I contacted Dean Electric and Tim (owner) told me he could have someone out the following day. Mike showed up exactly on time and was very respectful of our home, offering to put on shoe covers. He was very professional and did a nice, neat job. We ran into an unforeseen wrinkle with the digital timer, which I provided, so the job couldn't be completed that day. However, Mike wired everything so that I could control the outlet manually, until the digital timer installation could be completed. I will definitely use their services again.
Description of Work: Installed a dedicated circuit breaker in the electrical panel for outdoor holiday lighting. Installed an outdoor GFI outlet with weatherproof housing. Installed an Intermatic digital timer, which I provided, on the dedicated circuit to control the outdoor outlet.

Excellent. But most uniquely, they jumped through hoops to accommodate my schedule and get the work done. I had to arrange for the work from long distance, and they were wonderful in preparing for their material needs based on my verbal descriptions (an on site visit wasn't possible). They asked detailed questions in advance to make sure they understood the entire job and had all the supplies they needed when they arrived. Then, they worked diligently and thoroughly, completing the job with professionalism and quality.

Dean Electric's response to our electrical crisis was very quick. We lost hot water on Sunday, they were here Monday to evaluate. Work was completed on Tuesday. Electrician Mike McMurray was friendly, professional, very knowledgeable, and did an excellent job. He clearly explained what we needed. Dean Electric's price was lower than we expected. The Angie's List discount helped. We will request Dean's Electric and Mike McMurray and refer them to friends and family in the future.
Description of Work: Inspected disrupted service to electric water heater. Installed 2 new 240v/30a boxes (garage and basement), restoring service to hot water tank and bringing up to code.

Previous home owner had made various changes to electrical throughout home that were not up to code. I contacted Tim and he was able to come out to provide a quote right away. He worked hard to stay within my limited budget and suggested money saving alternatives. The two man crew did a good job and were professionals. I am very happy with their service and will call them for my next job.

The job went well. I was kept informed on every phase of the job as it progressed. Any questions that I had were answered in detail. They left the area cleaner than they found it.
Description of Work: Changed my electrical service from fuses to circuit breakers. This required moving the circuit breaker box three feet to the right of the old fuse box (because of water pipes and wash tub interference). Wire extensions were required to complete this job.

Job was to start 10 days ago when other contractors were present. I called and emailed to get things going. Per Tim an electrician was to visit the job site on Tuesday when hole was made in the house (for new door wall). Electrician no showed. Next day I called Tim again, per Tim, electricial scheduled to do job on Wednesday called in sick. Job to be done Friday or Monday at the latest. Other contractors waiting for electrical to be done to finish drywall. Tim unconcerned about making new holes. Monday morning I called Tim who said electrician will be out on Tuesday. Room taped off with plastic until completion to keep dust to a minimum due to medical conditions in the home. Tuesday came and went...no show, no call from Dean Electric. Another electrical company secured.

It seems to have gone very well. I am not local to the area, so I didn't actually see the work. I had prepared the house for sale, but had returned to NJ when this came up. One couple made an offer, and had an inspector come thru to check out the house. One item the inspector cited was about an adjustment that was needed in the electric circuit panel in the basement. Something about too many wires on one circuit. I called Dean Electric, which had excellent ratings on Angie's List. I explained the situation and emailed them a copy of the inspector's comments. They said it sounded like a basic problem (not too complicated) and said they'd charge their standard fee of $150 for a site visit, diagnosis and basic repair, and took my credit card number for payment and the lock-box number for entry. (My guess is that, including drive-time it might have been 3 hrs work, so that sounded fair to me.) The next day they called back to say the work was completed as planned and they'd charged it to the credit card. I've never had a job done more easily than that. One phone call and, BOOM! it was done. I haven't heard anything back from the inspector, so I suppose it was done right, but can't be absolutely sure. Not being an electrician myself, I'm not certain I'd recognize a correctly-done electrical wiring repair even if I'd seen it up close. Anyway, no complaints from the buyers, and the sale of the house was completed, so I'm happy with that.

I have used Dean Electric for service three times now. All quality work and professional electricians that I have delt with. This time the underground grounding wire to the house was no longer able to reach the spike in the ground due to other work in the yard. They fixed it no problem. They have also installed a dusk to dawn post light and found a mysterious problem with lights not working in the bathroom. It turned out to be a receptacle in the hallway causing the problems with a loose connection.

I thought I would have a difficult time getting any electrician to come out to take care of such a small job. However, Dean Electric came out right away to replace a rusted electrical outlet I had in the basement. He was prompt, personable and made sure I didn't have any other concerns or electrical problems to address. From the office staff to the electrician on site I would definitely recommend Dean Electric.

I called to have a kitchen light fixture repaired. The gal on the phone was extremely polite and helpful, and could tell from my description what the problem likely is. (I had already figured that out, and agreed with her assessment) We were at the point of setting up an appointment when she told me that their BASIC charge is $150, which covers one hour of work. Parts, of course, would be extra- and would bring my cost to (probably) $200 or more for a simple repair. This seemed very unreasonable to me, especially in light of the washing machine repair I had last week that cost $50! My best choice may be to do the repair myself- though that was not what I had in mind. This company just plain overcharges---

I am sorry to hear that you feel our Service Call Fee ($150.00 - Angie's List 15% discount of $22.50 = $127.50) for travel to your home and the first hour working in your home is "overcharging". I would like to take this opportunity to explain what has to be built into our SCF and hourly wage. Licensing (both contractor and electrician), insurance (liability and workers compensation), vehicles (purchase, maintenance, gas, insurance) and support staff just to name a few. Our electricians are licensed, background checked and are required by the State of Michigan to take ongoing code upgrade classes for license renewal. We feel that all of this is of value for both Dean Electric Inc. and our customers. With service calls such as yours it is our normal practice to suggest you purchase your own materials (in your case your own ballast) to save money and I hope that this was suggested to you. Once again, I am sorry you feel that our services are over priced but we keep abreast of what others in our industry also charge and feel we are on the mark. Timothy D. Called and made an appointment the week before. Office manager did a great job squeezing us in sooner than expected. She also did a good job explaining the initial service charge ($125 for Angie's List members) and the hourly charge thereafter. She also took down my wife's cell number so the electrician could call her prior to coming, since I would be at work. On the day of the appointment, the electrician called me, not my wife. Not a big deal, as I relayed the message. The electrician was on time, per the appointment. The electrician easily determined that somewhere in the circuit, the hot wire was allowing current to get to the neutral wire. However, the electrician spent 4+ hours trying to find the source of this without any luck. Tim, one of the owners of Dean electric, even came to provide some direction to the electrician. My wife had to leave for an appointment around 1:30pm, and left the electrician to finish the work. She returned at 3:30pm, and he was gone. No note explaining what had been done, or even if the problem had been solved. No phone call either. About a week later we received an invoice that had some explanation, as well as a $700 bill. The end result was that the electrician could not find the cause of the current leakage. He capped off the circuit at the switch, and ran a new circuit to the switch from the breaker box, as it made more sense than breaking through a lot of drywall and having to fix that as well. It did solve the issue, but at a SIGNIFICANT cost. I understand that problems like this are not necessarily a 1 hour job and done, since the nature of the issue took some investigation. However, I did not feel that the electrician kept the overall cost in mind, until he got to the point he would have to rip into the drywall. By then, we had run up $500+ in service charges alone. It would have been better after one or two hours to have given us the choice of spending more time trying to find the source of the problem, or just cap off the circuit and create a new one (end result). This could have saved significant time/money. I called their office after receiving the invoice to discuss a number of things: 1) The number of hours charged was inaccurate - they gladly updated without any hassle 2) Asked to understand how they keep cost in mind for jobs like this - they would have Tim call me regarding this 3) Told them we received no info until invoice that job was done - would give info to Tim and have him call me As of writing this review, Tim has yet to call me.

`Thank you for taking the time to write a review on the services we performed at your home. When I read that this repair took 2 trips I reviewed your file just to make sure that the 2nd trip was not a warranty issue. My understanding from the electricians write-up is that on the 1st trip there was repair made to splicing done by you at a new GFCI duplex receptacle that you had purchased. The 2nd trip the electrician replaced this GFCI and repaired a bad splice in a junction box under the deck. My interpretation of these leads me to believe that these were indeed two related but separate issues and therefore billed accordingly. The electricians were both very knowledgeable and courteous. They were prompt and did everything asked without question and explained their work. They reviewed the work when they were done and made sure we were satisfied with the work.
Description of Work: Installed a 220 to my well pump and worked on outdoor exterior lighting.
