Jacob/Jason showed up right on time. Both were very courteous. They were very thorough on inspecting and getting photos for repairs. They cleaned up everything before leaving and took time at the end to go over everything that should be done. I'm glad I took my time researching companies. I am very pleased with the outsome.

Nick & Dustin arrived a few minutes early. They checked out the chimney and took photos to show what it looked like. There was some build up. Nick said we were right on the border of safety guidelines, and getting it cleaned was up to us. Since it had never been cleaned, we decided to go ahead with the cleaning. He then went on the roof and check the outside and took photos. Afterward, he showed me all the photos. Everything was great except 2 panels in the firebox that had cracks. They are going to contact the company and see if replacements are possible. They were both pleasant, professional and honest.

I initially contacted Doctor Flue through their website about having the chimney cap replaced along with an inspection. They got back to me with a email about their inspection and proposal quote process, along with options to receive a free inspection provided I send them detailed photos. Being a new house, we decided a detailed inspection was our best bet. The inspection cost is waived if repairs end up being over a certain amount, which we new the degraded chimney cap would be. I was able to schedule an appointment within two weeks of calling. They called a few days before the inspection and gave us a time when they would arrive. They were running ahead that day and gave me a call which worked for the better. Jacob and Jason did our inspection. Jacob was the point man and walked me through what we were looking at and answered my questions, leaving Jason the job of scaling up our two story house in the cold and possibly ending up on the receiving end of rodents flying out of the chimney into his face (luckily none were found). They did a great job of protecting our new wood floors coming in and out and working around the fireplace. Everything was explained in a straightforward manner while they were running the camera up the chimney. It was pretty obvious from the videos that the flue was messed up and not safe for fire, and this answered a lot of questions about why the previous owner installed a crappy ventless gas system. Jacob did a quick inspection of the ventless system, cleaned it out, and fired it up so it's usable. Knowing nothing about vented and ventless systems, he explained the difference and made a strong recommendation for vented without trying to push it on me. I did some research after the fact, and all the info I was given was backed up by others as accepted standard practice stuff. In the end I was presented three proposals: One for the structural work, one for a new flue that would allow for a vented gas system or wood, and a third that included all of the work and a new vented gas system. All of the proposals were done on-site and Jacob talked me through them after they were put together. Additionally, the proposals were emailed to me along with the inspection report that included color photos. We decided to just fix the chimney cap for now and had to schedule for next spring due to the concrete work needed. If we ever decide to have a functioning chimney or level-up to a vented system, it's nice to have these documents on file.

My adventure seeking estimates and eventually picking a company to install a Gas Fireplace Insert was interesting. The market for this type of work is unique in that free estimates are discouraged and hard to come by. This company like a few others I engaged was unwilling to provide me with a free estimate. For very specific reasons Doctor Flue requested an inspection prior to estimate at the cost of $148. I'm not disputing these reasons or cost factors however I feel that an inspection fee put additional weight on my decision making process. Consider the situation, I'm looking for an insert that costs roughly $5,000 installed. Some companies provide a best guess based on an optimal installation process without coming to your home. I can understand that those companies want to avoid loosing money on sales they don't make however I disagree with this business practice. I was looking for three or four estimates before making my final design. If I choose companies with inspection fees (which there are plenty) this would bump my cost up an extra $600. That in my mind is a %12 penalty for locating the best price and service. Consider another type of project roofing, often costing double or even triple with just as many unknown factors. I have had many estimates done on roofs. All within the same price range. All provided free of charge. I'm not going to leave a negative review for this company, their responsiveness was excellent and their overall tone was acceptable. I was told "I discourage using anyone that provides a free estimate". This was my only ding on professionalism. This isn't an isolated incident and if you are in the market for an insert I highly recommend talking with companies in person at their show rooms. Gather as much information as you can and be diligent with your research as you will find companies with free estimates.

Mike and another technician came out today to do my chimney inspection. Earlier in the year I had my chimney swept by another company who never got back with me with my inspection results or even a quote for chimney repairs, so I had to seek a different company to get my chimney into a safe condition. I am very impressed with Mike's knowledge and expertise. He is also super nice and really down to earth! He showed me and explained, in detail, what was going on with the gaps in my chimney tiles and the hazard they pose. He wrote me up a quote on the spot for the repairs and emailed the inspection report with photos and recommendations before he left the house. They are very thorough and experienced and won't sell you something you don't need. Don't hesitate to call them for any chimney help or cleaning you need and don't bother to go with the "other guys" who don't measure up; that mistake cost me a lot of extra money. Based on what I already paid the previous (angie's list) provider, I didn't hesitate to pay $138 for the inspection by Doctor Flue. I am confident they did it right and gave me the right recommendations.

Cory and Cavin were on time, worked continuously to finish, covered up all places needing protection. Cleaned up everything, were happy, good manners. Did an excellent job with high proficiency- priced well.

The team from Doctor Flue were great. They arrived exactly on time, were very careful to spread protective coverings on my belongings, and resolved the problem quickly. I was especially impressed by how knowledgeable the team was - they provided many helpful tips for using my gas fireplace in the future. In addition, they did not try to sell me any new products that I didn't need at this time. When making my appointment, I had requested information about a new fire log set, which they provided, but with no pressure to buy. I will definitely use Doctor Flue again.

This is a fantastic business and I can't say enough about their customer service. We moved into a manufactured home in February of this year and we did not know when the gas fireplace was last inspected. Doctor Flue's crew came and took pictures inside the chimney, relocated the gas entry valve, and lit the pilot light. They were courteous and friendly and totally ignored the commotion of our moving in going on around them. We really enjoy using the fireplace during the spring season. I turned off the pilot light this summer because we were going to be out of town for several weeks. When I tried to re-light the pilot light this fall, I was not successful. I called Doctor Flue and a technician called and tried to talk me through the process. I still wasn't successful so they scheduled a visit to help me. This morning our maintenance man stopped by for another reason and he was able to light the pilot for us. I called Doctor Flue to cancel the appointment and mentioned that the fireplace was now working but that the sound of the gas coming through the pipe was quite audible when the pilot light was turned down. I asked if this was a safety issue. The very nice woman I spoke with said she would check with the technician. He said it was not but they stopped by anyway just to be sure I was satisfied that everything was okay. They did adjust the pressure while they were here so the gas flow through the line is now inaudible. Even though it is a very busy time of year for them, they took time to make sure I was comfortable using my fireplace. The ability to provide this kind of customer satisfaction is becoming very rare in our culture and that makes me appreciate it all the more. I highly recommend Doctor Flue and I will now schedule annual maintenance calls because I know it will be money well-spent.

Cory, Matt, and Jason were the technicians. Day of estimate and actual work were doing according to estimate. Company always communicated. Workers were well prepared and professional.

They came and did the inspection, confirmed the creosote buildup was almost nonexistent -- after 3 years of constant seasonal use (gotta love these high effieiency inserts!). I was happy with this part. They seemed stumped by the blower part. While I understand they did not install the insert, their website and glowing reviews lead me to believe they would be able to take care of all things fireplace related. I had given them all the info and contact information ahead of time, which a technician had reviewed and emailed me back and forth with. When they came onsite and finished the usual and money making part (which they then had nothing to clean), they kinds shrugged their shoulders and left. So while I did not pay for anything more than their inspection fee (which is insanely high for 30 minutes of work), they did not seem to want the job and I blew 200 for nothing more than a shoulder shrug when the emails and phone conversations beforehand led me to believe this company could get the job done. They install inserts, yet couldn't swip out blower motors?! I was disappointed. There was no follow up or attempts to call the manufacturer etc. They just left. No initative for service. I would not call them again unless I wanted pictures of the inside of my stack for 200. My husband ending up doing the job himself after spending 25 minutes on the phone with the insert manufacturing company. I guess I am glad these guys couldn't be bothered. Would have cost me a fortune I bet.

The service was excellent from the initial visit to get dimensions to the final install. The new chimney cap looks and works great and has even stayed in place after several 60+ mph storms. The fireplaces have never worked better. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

Phase 1 removal of caps and pour two new ones, also repaired step flashing on both. Cory and Jason were very polite and professional . The area was cleared of all debris and left as they found it. Phase 2 will be at the end of the month which will be removal of forms and sealing the stone. It was important to us to maintain the appearance and integrity of the original chimneys and are very pleased that this option was available. Since phase 2 has not been completed yet I have opted to wait to answer the quality grade. However, I am optimistic that it will be excellent.

I was put off by the "upsell" of an evaluation prior to the repair. I did not understand how they were able to give me a price quote based on a picture taken by me from the ground. It didn't seem like they were interested in my business, they just wanted to sell me something I didn't need, and possibly more.

Mike, Jason, both introduced and were very polite. These young men did an outstanding job cleaning the dirty pipe and cleaned after. I have tried other wood stove cleaning companies and none compare to the quality wok of Dr. Flue.

This company is impressive. The appointment process on the phone was with a live, intelligent lady. They booked the appointment and confirmed the day before by phone and email. The crew arrived as scheduled. The Truck was spotless and clean---indicating attention to detail. Mike and Cavin had uniforms on and were clean, polite and professional. They booted their feet to protect the floors. They laid down cover ups on the word floor and got right to work. They cleaned the grated glass screens to a shine. They tested the lines and explained the results. They climbed the roof and inspected the vents. Once completed, they sent my email photos of all they did and an inspection report. They were personable and professional. The charges were more than fair considering the drive from Michigan and two service men. Entire service was done in an hour and 10 minutes. I have a hunting cabin in Michigan and will book them to do work there in the summer. Impressive small business!

Nick was great. He did a great job and made great suggestions. The service and communication is what blew me away. Nick provided a very transparent detailed report and provide many high resolution images. No matter how I communicated with Nick or Dr. Flue...email or phone....they were always so responsive. They did their best to educate me and never tried to upsell me. I am in the process of scheduling some maintenance work with them on chimney crowns this summer. I would recommend their services.
