These guys (Jacob and Jason) were the nicest, most professional chimney cleaners we've ever had. We asked them to contact us annually to take care of our chimney needs ( and we get a discount with that arrangement!). We sometimes have problems with the smoke from our fireplace entering the house rather than going up the chimney. Jacob gave us a few possible reasons for this before he started and gave us a fix for the issue when he was finished. Turns out our radon fans mess with the air pressure in the house causing the smoke problem. He gave us some options for fixing the problem.. including just cracking a window open). Jacob also recommended that we get a smaller fireplace grate, which Dr. Flue doesn't sell, so that our fires don't get too big and damage the unit. These guys use technology to everyone's advantage, letting me know 2 days prior to their visit of a shorter window for their arrival, txting/calling to let me know when they would arrive day of service, sending email of photos and receipt at the time of service. They were super clean. Not only did they cover their shoes but they used a floor runner so their equipment wouldn't leave dirt on the floor either. They do cost more than other chimney cleaning service we've had in the past, but the level of service is so far above the less expensive companies - it's totally justified. We have had the problem with smoke getting into the house for a few years and no other companies were helpful in solving the problem. I wish all service providers were as thoughtful and professional as these guys. Super nice and professional. We're glad to have them back next time.

At first on 12/12 we were well pleased, the tech found the problem a and replaced a spill switch. However after he left the fireplace stopped working and the switch he installed would not work. We contacted Dr Flue, after a couple of days we received an e-mail telling us they would research the problem and get back to us. On 12/19 they sent us a e-mail proposal to replace the wrong part, reguested us to fax an acceptance back to them, which we did. Today they called and told us it would be Jan 23 when they could get back to fix the problem. I realize now that they are in a different state and send people to service our area about 200 miles to provide service. However you recommend this company for our area but taking 1-2 months to complete the work does not seem reasonable. Since the service still is not complete, I can not rate them at this time. The cost so far, has been $162 including the $15 for the original switch. The proposed additional for the next visit and replacement part is more than an additional $250.

Jacob and Jason were 10 minutes early and very kind and professional. They worked quickly and efficiently, but took time to explain what they were doing and the overall results. Including before and after pics, video. Gave us idea for cost of fix, repairs and/or replaced very pleased! Without them could have unknowingly caused a house fire. Thank you!

Staff were knowledgeable, punctual, clean, friendly, prompt and repaired my fireplace to safe working order. They performed a very dirty job and kept my house spotless even while jack hammering out cement. I was amazed.

The person who made the appointment was super helpful and friendly (wish I remembered her name). She was able to provide me with estimates/costs for services. A couple days before the appointment, I received a email with an exact arrival time, AND a photo w/bio on the repair person that would be coming out. Not a four hour window appointment time, but a set time! The photo and bio was a very amazing touch! This is a excellenct safety feature, and it's nice to know how experienced the person is that's doing the repair. The morning of the appointment, the service person called to say they were running 15 minutes, appologized, and made sure it was ok. They then arrived exactly when they said they would. In all my expieriences with repair people (and it's been a lot lately) I've never had a set appointment or had them arrive exactly when they said they would. Even if they had ran late, I would have understood, because as homeowners, we all know that sometimes what we think will take 15 minutes to fix can sometimes turn into a hour long project! They wore covers on their shoes, were very professional, and explained everything. they took video and photos, and then explained what they saw. We didn't need any repairs, except for the outside cap to be replaced (which we already knew). we had been concerned about rust & water leaks, but they explained what it was from, and eased our concerns. Here is where I'm sure they could have told us these were things that needed repairs, in order to make more money, but they didn't. Which shows they are a very honest company! They sent a follow up email with the detailed receipt, and a copy of the photos. Before scheduling the appointment, I had priced around for the inspection and cap replacement. Doctor Flue was about $20 more, but with the service we received, it was well worth it! We actually had an appointment scheduled with another company, but then I looked up reviews on line. I found a couple nagative reviews (there's always those few people that no matter what, you can never make happy), but it was how that company responded to the reviews that concerned me. Mean responses! Made me worry, what if we have a real issue, will they just respond mean to my complaint. I decided to sign up on Angie's list, and found Doctor flue. They had way more years experience, a lot more reviews, and for the couple negative reviews (there's always those few-can't make everyone happy) Doctor Flues response to those reviews was very nice and professional! "I'm sorry that XYZ happened, please give us a call to resolve", compared to the other company that was like "well fine, we don't need your business anyway". It also took me two and half days to be able to get ahold of that company, in order to just cancel the appointment with them!! That said company (not going to name) is on Angie's list, so make sure to read all reviews before you hire anyone. We have a gas fireplace that needs repair/inspection, and we will be having Doctor Flue back out to complete these services. We would have had them done at time of other repairs, but we had been using it, so it was hot.

Oct. 2016: Very good service. They took pictures before and after making the repair, showed them to me prior to requesting payment ($148.00), and sent the pictures to me via email. The chimney needs more work on the brick and mortar. They gave me an estimate ($1,300) and recommended the work be delayed to spring since the repair will last longer if it is done in warm, dry weather.

I gave a really good recommendation for a company cleaning our fireplace. Dr Flue. Let me tell you something, I did that before they were done with their job. When they came back to finish up, because they needed to order some pieces, I never had a worse experience in my life. Just awful. Following up on that, I talked to other people and they were in the same boat I was. They first do this song and dance, and everyone is happy-go-lucky. When they come back, it depends how the service guy feels. Unbelievable. And you pay high dollar with them. They’re not reasonable. Not recommended.They came back out in February to finish the job, actually it was the end of March. I think it was. It was outside work. Nothing to do with the actual fireplace operating. It was so disconbobbled. My wife and I both had such a communication problem with the head guy there. He even called his boss, the owner, and the owner called me and said, “I could just stick this to you. You still owe $2000 to do the work that you don’t want us to do now”. I said, “Well, You’re not sticking it to me. I don’t even want this guy on my property. He’s horrible. He’s rude and he swore at me.” I said I want him off my property. So he put this labor guy on, that’s his right hand man. Next thing I knew, I looked out the window, and they were packed up pulling away.Then I got a call back from the owner, and he said, “We’re going to just take the balance for the work we were supposed to do and just not bill you on that.” I said I appreciate it. Trying to be nice. Otherwise I’d see him in court, and I’d win, hands down. But, I had previously just given him a high recommendation and I had forgot about

Everything went well, and we have had several fires in our chimney now. They were very conscientious and did a great job cleaning up.

The inspection was thorough, and very professional, although expensive. I don't think the technicians knew exactly WHY I had leaking into the house's ceiling, but sealed some cracks along the concrete cap and installed new chimney caps. I had to get another company out to do the repairs for the leaking.

Because of scheduling, Mike and Jason called and asked if they could come to the house earlier than my scheduled appointment, which was perfect. The guys were great! Very personable and professional. They performed a thorough inspection of the fireplace and flu from inside and both the guys went up on the roof to take a look at the chimney cover and inspected the inside of the chimney. My wife and I wanted to install a gas log (the fireplace is a wood burner). The guys went in the basement and scoped out the gas line situation to see if the project was possible. Mike told us it shouldn't be a problem as long as a plumber was able to install a gas line to the fireplace. Mike suggested a couple of different gas log options, but made a nice recommendation for a gas log that he thought would be more appropriate for us, which I appreciate as I had no idea what I was doing. There was no hard sale -- fantastic! My wife and I agreed to go ahead and plan for the install of the gas log, provided a gas line could be installed by the plumber. Unfortunately, because of foundation issues in our old house, installation of a gas line to the fireplace was not possible. Personally, I was looking forward to having Mike and Jason back for the install, I was sort of bummed, but it just wasn't meant to be.

Had three estimates that were similar in price but Doctor Flue was rated well on Angie's list and I really liked the staff who came to my house. They were professional, quick, clean, and explained everything very well.

Nick/ Jason called ahead were able to arrive early, inspected chimney from roof to fireplace using video camera. Advised on best solution for failed damper. Gave quote for work needed.

The guys at Doctor Flue have been fantastic for us. We first encountered them when buying a new home because we needed a chimney inspection, and also chose to have them do a chimney cleaning. They sent out "Nick" to meet our real estate agent (we lived out of state), and he arrived on time and ready to get to work. His report was incredibly thorough, and complete with photos of the inside of the chimney itself, the fireplace box, and the outside of the chimney. He identified some broken pieces that looked like bricks in the firebox, and recommended against using the fireplace until they were repaired, and provided a quote for the repair (about $450). After moving into the home, we wanted a second quote on the repair because, well, why not! The second quote came in a bit higher, so we went with Doctor Flue for the repair as well. I'm so glad that we did! Again, Nick showed up to do the work and this time he brought another helper, and I was there to let them in the house. They showed up promptly on time, donned shoe covers to protect our inside flooring, brought in their specialized vacuum to suck up any dust they created, and the replaced the firebox floor and back wall. The job was done in less than an hour, and it looks like the same fireplace, except newer. While I had him at the house, I invited Nick upstairs to assess a gas fireplace that we haven't figured out how to light yet. Nick spent 15 minutes or so poking around and concluded that it's not working as it should. He took the model and serial number with him to do further research adn promised to get back to me with more information. I'm pretty confident he will! I would highly recommend Doctor Flue for chimney cleaning and inspection, and also for repairs. I think they do far more than that, and if I ever need anything else (like a new fireplace, for example), these guys will be top on my list for obtaining an estimate.

The service went very well and the guys were very professional and respectfully of our home and fireplace. They checked our fireplace and vent system. They checked our chimney and determined whether it needed to be cleaned and they checked our chimney vent system. All went well.
