Outstanding work. He will be coming back to some additional repairwork in another area of the house.
Description of Work: Repair of some existing floor and sand/finish of the repaired sections and everthying else. Frank and his crew patched new flooring into some old sections and repaired another area that was damaged. They installed flush mount, hardwood register covers and then sanded/finished everything. They look fantastic. This is the second time Frank has refinished these floors and they look as good as new.

Owner Frank Jacobs was very professional when he came out for the estimate. We went with his company because they were able to do the work within our time constraints. Frank had another job scheduled on the date requested and sent his other team to do the job. The floors had some damaged boards which were replaced and blended well. Overall, the floors turned out very nice with one caveat: There were claw marks in the wood, probably due to previous carpet installation using stretcher tools. Frank said they could be repaired or filled in. The were not repaired. I was disappointed by that. Overall, the floors look good, the job was completed in a timely manner.

Frank and his crew do great work. Always an honest price and reliable. When I ask Frank to fix something, he doesn't whine or complain or try to make me feel like an idiot, he just fixes it. I wish I could say that about other contractors I have worked with. I will continue to use Frank in the future and continue to recommend him to family and friends.

Everything was great. It was a great experience overall. They completed it in a timely manner, at it looks great.
Description of Work: They tied in original 1905 floors that were in terrible condition. When I pulled up the carpet there were huge sections missing, and damage through out. Frank tied the old with the new, and I ask guests to guess where the new and the old meet. No one can tell.

It looked great! But it did need a few repairs done, we were told by Frank when he came to look at the job his men had done that the repairs wouldn't be a problem, that was the last we heard...... I have been leaving messages, sent emails, I have yet to get a return phone call or email, we are now into May 2015 my last phone message was left on May 1st 2015 followed by an email on 7th May 2015. No return call or email, very disappointed with the customer service. Diane

Their work is amazing. They tied in the new wood that had to be cut down to match the odd dimensions of my old wood, and no one can tell which boards are 100 years old and which brand new. They were efficient and new knew the trade better than anyone that I have used before. The only thing that might put someone off a bit is their extremely casual nature. I enjoy authentic people that are a little more laid back, but I could see how someone else might say their professionalism needs a bit of polishing. Great people, great price and I would use them anytime I need work done.
Description of Work: Refinished my severely damaged 100 year old floors. There were big sections missing from water damage and they tied it in perfectly. Staircase was also done.

Frank quoted the job and did some of the hardwood installation work with his crew. Hardwood flooring installation: They did a great job installing the hardwood flooring -- spliced the family room into the kitchen and the den and living room into the foyer to make the entire first floor one continuous hardwood floor. Refinishing: Sanding and refinishing was satisfactory. A few areas are visible where the poly was puddled a bit on the flooring. Baseboard and shoe molding: This part of the job was not their strength. The corners were not tight joints with large gaps that were filled with caulk. Frank came back and made a few repairs of the more obvious flaws. In conclusion, would hire them again to save me the labor of installing and refinishing the floor but would hire a finish carpenter to do the baseboard and shoe molding work.
Description of Work: Installed 690 sq ft of unfinished oak flooring, refinished 1010 sq ft (3 coats of poly), installed baseboard and oak shoe molding.

Frank had two top guys to take over this task, and they were punctual, courteous and professional. They immediately went into work almost non-stop in removing leftover staples, sanding, adding wood fillers, more sanding, cleaning up, staining and applying coats on the floors. The new vent looks great. It lasted two and half days, and the overall result was fabulous. We were happy and satisfied with the amazing transformation.
Description of Work: We met Frank at our ranch house, and he answered our questions. Then, he surveyed through the house, and said the hardwood floor in all rooms (except bathroom & kitchen) are in great shape after all these years. We checked some spots that need a little more work, and new quarter wood trim would be put in due to carpet removal except bedrooms. The living room has a metal vent on the floor by the picture window, and Frank offered to replace it to flush and blend in with the floor. Closets also would be included. It would take three days at the most to do the job.

This is a one story ranch with all the wood done besides 3 rooms. He did the bulk of the work in June. He seemed like a good guy, and I hired him based off how he presented himself as a talker. When it came time to fix the floors, he had some personnel issues. He lost his number 1 guy to an unfortunate death, and it felt like the people that would have been managed by his top guy. They made some mistakes. He came out to do some repairs himself because it took his team 3 times to repair the work. Some areas were layered with one coat, and others done within 3. I hired another contractor who told me that he felt that the equipment wasn't up to par and approached things in the wrong way. I just felt like the work was unprofessional. He seemed to be in a stressful situation, but the system seemed to be rough. He did alright to a point, and then I felt like he just lost it. I would have preferred him to come and discuss this with me instead of creating problems. I now have a floor that is not the quality I wanted, and it took a month longer than we expected.
Description of Work: He was hired to refinish the floors, and run minor repairs on some damaged boards.

I called to request original work order and it seemed to go smooth. We used Frank Jacobs company 20 years ago for similar job and were pleased. Spring forward to present and the two member crew showed up with wrong work order and did not seem motivated to fix the problem. They said doing a buff and single coat of poly would take care of our 60 year old hardwood floor. I called Frank and he did not know how the order got changed and didn't seem to care but did tell them to do what needed to be done. The crew proceeded to sand the rough spots, fill cracks and apply stain and polyurethane. But the floor doesn't look as good as they said it would and we'll have to have our original work done by another company to make it right. We were not trying to save money, the most important objective was to make the floor look great and they failed. A week later and some of the filler is cracking/disintegrating and there are allot of worn spots in the floor that look awful. The crew was really bent on only doing what was on the wrong work order and kept repeating how this would be better and cheaper. They were wrong on all counts and now we have to spend even more money to make this right again. Will never recommend this company again. Have recommended in the past to friends and family but can see this is not the same company any more.
Description of Work: was suppose to sand floor, fill cracks and apply 2 coats of polyurethane for 1.99/sq ft...work order was wrong and crew only wanted to buff the floor and put one coat of polyurethane....bad choice to go with this company.

Frank missed our 1st appointment, after waiting for him for an hour I called to see where he was and he said he forgot. When he showed up the next day he gave me estimates for 3 separate parts of the house. When we decided on which contractors we wanted to use and what work we wanted to have done I contacted Frank to schedule and go over which of the estimates we wanted and which we didn't. He told me it would be 4 days of work, and he was going to start on Monday June 3rd. He was going to send me a new consolidated estimate with just the work that I decided to have done, and an additional item I had asked for (toe molding), which I never received. We also hired a painter for plaster repair and paint on the entire first floor, and scheduled him to start the next Monday, June 10th (leaving Friday and Saturday as a buffer between the 2 jobs). We put all of our 1st floor furniture, including the kitchen appliances in a storage unit. A week or so before Frank/Mohawk was scheduled to start I got a call from his secretary asking if they could postpone until Thursday June 6th because Frank forgot about his daughter's prom and he had some family commitments because of it. I told her about the empty house, and the painter who was scheduled, but if he was able to change we could move back to Thursday. I called Mohawk back after the painter agreed to change to let them know they could start on Thursday. The woman in the office said that they would work Thursday - Saturday. When I asked why my 4 day job just became a 3 day job she really didn't have an answer. I was a little concerned that I was going to wind up having a conflict between Mohawk and the painter on the next Monday. The painter packed up his equipment on Wednesday to make way for Frank/Mohawk on Thursday. I called Franks office on Wednesday to confirm that they would be there Thursday morning. When the secretary called back she said the crew would be there by 9, 9:30 at the latest. I then talked to Frank on the phone regarding some of the work because I had never received the revised estimate. Frank (the owner) told me he thought they were doing just the floors and that they would make the Kitchen/Foyer/Tile work a separate job after the painter. I would have known this had he sent me the paperwork he had promised. I was concerned because the kitchen was also being painted and I wanted/expected the old floor torn out before the new paint. He said he would be out in the morning at 10 so we could discuss it. Thursday morning I got to work at 7am so I could leave at 9am and meet the crew at my house. By 10:15 am there was no one there, and no phone call. I called Frank, and left a message wondering where everyone was (Frank never answered the phone any of the times I called him). At 10:30 Frank called back, was surprised that his secretary hadn't called me to tell me they would be late because he left a note for her in the office when he left at 7am. Maybe she wasn't in yet, he wondered. I asked him why he hadn't just called me at 7am when he knew they be late. He told me he had just talked to his crew and they were 20 minutes away. I asked him when he would show up and he suggested I talk to Dave on the crew when they arrive so I could get back to work. He wouldn't give me a time when he'd be there. At 11:15 (45 minutes after Frank told me his crew was 20 minutes away, and 1 hour 45 minutes after they were supposed to be there) I again called Frank to see where they were. Again I got his voice mail. At that point I had had enough (and had to get back to work) and told Frank I would work with someone else. At 11:30 (an hour after they told Frank they were 20 minutes away) Dave from the crew called to say he was at the house I was back at work by then), so in the 15 minutes since I had called Frank he still hadn't checked his phone, never got my message, and never contacted his crew. Or maybe he did, and figured I'd still be at the house when they arrived. I don't know if Frank really has a secretary or really left a note, I don't know if Frank's crew lied to him or if Frank lied to me about when they'd finally arrive. I do know that if I would have gotten a call at 7am saying they wouldn't be there until 11:30 I would have stayed at work until 11 myself and then left to meet the crew. I do know that if Frank had no intention of showing up at the house on Thursday and instead wanted me to just work with the crew he could have just told me when he could be there instead of insisting we was on his way. I was a contractor for over 20 years and I know that things come up, jobs sometimes run long, and it is impossible to be in 2 places at once. But everybody has a phone these days. A phone call Thursday morning with HONEST information would have made all the difference. I never heard back from Frank by the way, had he called me back later on Thursday and told me he or his guys would start bright and early Friday morning I would have been fine with that, I just had to get back to work. I was concerned that if communication was this bis a problem before the job even started, what would it be like afterwards. Frank must have too much work or too much money because doesn't seem to want the $3,200 he was going to get from me. Like I said, he never even bothered to call me back after the last phone message.
Description of Work: We had hired Frank to repair and refinish hardwood floors in living room and dining room, tear out old flooring in the kitchen and foyer, and install tile we would purchase separately (which was his suggestion). Before work began I had asked him to add to his invoice the price of installing both base and toe molding.

I got estimates on the job from several contractors. Mohawk Floors was the best price. I hired them based on the feeback I read here on Angies List. I did the tearout of my old floors. It was a huge job and many times wish I had let them do it instead of trying to save a few bucks. I had not quite completed it when the installers arrived. They actually gave me some tips on how to get it done easier. They did not have to do that, but I was thankfull that they did. They spent about 5 hours the first day prepping everything. They showed up early the next day and started laying the floor. I was surprised that after 7 hours, they called it a day. Also they told me a different crew would be back the next day. I wasn't to crazy about that. That crew showed up late. They did work hard and continuious and got alot done. After inspecting their work, I found 3 or 4 boards that were cracked and 1 or 2 that were discolored. The next day I pointed it out to them and they replaced them immediately. They also stopped at the store on their way over that morning and picked up 2 more boxes of wood, as I did not calculate enough in for waste. The job was completed on the fourth day. Frank stained the vent covers to match the floor and gave me a great price to come back later and put down new toe molding and touch up any nicks and scratches in the rest of the molding. I did get nervous about the time frame for the job, but overall, I am very pleased with the job and feel I got a geat price. Frank and his crew are professionals in their work, Plan on bringing them back to do the stairs.

Work performed was clean and efficient. very timely and Frank was very professional. I am happy with the results and the price was very reasonable. I felt comfortable with the crew that performed the work. I would recommend Mohawk. Some areas of staining were not possible to remove. Haveing effective reasonable alternative would have been desired. I will definitly ask and look into it for the next job since I will have more. I would recomend a some stain, 3rd coating of poly and more gap filler for the next job. These will cost more but worth the price. Thank you Randall
Description of Work: Refinished hardwood floors. Sanded and Filled gaps and holes ( Would have liked to see more filler) Used a natural sealer finish with 2 poly coats, installed quarter round and threshold where needed.

Amount spent includes flooring which we purchased and Frank picked up. Very quick service. When he came out for the estimate, Frank explained some things to us which helped us make our decision about what flooring we wanted. Frank and his workers were very friendly and spent time making sure everything was right as we have a fireplace which is on an angle and they worked on it quite awhile to make it lookk good. They took the time needed and did not rush it when it took a little longer than expected. I found out they do some other services and I intend to have them come out for estimates on those too. I am thrilled with the floor and friends and family think it's great also.

I attempted to get an estimate from Mohawk floors to refinish my hardwood floors. They appeared to be the only company on Angie's List that removed carpet as well as re-finished floors that were located in SE Michigan. The appointment was set for June 22, 2012. They called me to confirm the appointment since mine was the last for that day. We waited over an hour and a half and no one showed up. I called and left a voice mail on their business line that same evening. No one ever called me back to apologize/re-schedule or anything. Very unprofessional.

I liked that the owner (Frank) was the only one, of the three people I found online, who was willing to come out and see if the stains were too bad before we started the work. He was the only one who came out and sanded to see what we were working with. He also had people who guided me on the color. Frank went out of his way on the project.

Frank and Gary were very friendly and explained everything when I had a question. They cleaned up everything when they were done and were done in a little over an hour.
Description of Work: I had some moulding that I had planned to install myself, as it turned out the moulding was too high for the saw to miter the corners. I would have had to get all new moulding in a different size and couldn't take what I had back because it had already been painted. I came on Angies list and got Mohawk floors number and called. I talked to Frank, he gave me a price right over the phone and came out 2 days later. He and Gary did the work in a little over an hour and did a wonderful job. He even put a piece of moulding out of his own stock under my front door where there was a bare spot. It would have cost me more to buy more moulding than it did to have them install it, plus I would have had to paint, cut and install it myself. I will be calling on them again and definitely recommend them. Thank you Frank and Gary.

Good estimate appointment. Ultimately decided on someone else.
Description of Work: I had two companies that I found on Angie's list come out for estimates on hardwood installation and recommendations for wood that I was going to purchase from another provider. Mohawk's representative was prompt, courteous and knowledgeable. The price was a bit steep for what I wanted....but then I hadn't heard other estimates yet. I cant really compare them to anyone else except in the professionalism of their service on the estimate. for that alone I recommend at least having them come by and hear them out. A+

Everything was accomplished as stated in estimate. Crew was courteous and arrived timely and did a great job. The owner, Frank ,was a part of the completion of the job. He corrected things during the final phase that we did not even notice. We would use this company again. A don't would be to allow yourself more time between doing rooms if you are living in the home. We were fortunate that we had great weather and were able to open windows and have great drying time for the varnish
Description of Work: The process was in 3 stages as we were having all of the hardwood floors in the home refinished. The first wk we had 2 rooms sanded, varnshed. Monday the crew removed original shoe moulding, sanded, and applied one coat of polyurethane. Tuesday the crew buffed, applied new shoe moulding , and applied 2nd coat of polyurethane. 1st stage completed. The second week we had 2 more rooms completed along with a hallway and stairs. The crew removed the carpeting, tack strips, started sanding on Monday. Tuesday more sanding, vaccuming and applied one coat of polyurethane. Wednesday crew buffed and applied the shoe moulding and 2nd coat of polyurethane. 2nd stage completed . The 3rd Monday the carpet ,tack strip , was removed from the room and a hallway. Floor and hallway sanded, first coat of polyurethane was completed. Tuesday the shoe moulding was applied and the final coat of varnish.

Ralph was very through with the explanation of the work that his crew would do. He even pointed out somethings about our hardwood floor that my wife and I had not noticed. We had a number of questions for him and he patiently and knowledgably answered all of them. The price he gave us was one of the lowest of the 4 we got and with his level of expertise it was an easy choice for us to go with Mohawk Hardwood Floors. We have already called to schedule the work to be done later this month.
