Called for an estimate and set up a time and day. I left work early to meet him their but nobody showed. Very unprofessional to not even call.

When I called to make the appointment the woman who answered the phone told me I hadn't called them in 10 years so don't expect to have someone come out in any short length of time. I thought that was a very unprofessional thing to say. I am a customer who is calling for service in which I will pay them. What difference does it make how long I go between calls? I stopped calling them because they are so expensive. The man came out, opened the access door tightened something in there and said he was done. The whole length of time for his work consisted of about 10 minutes and it cost me $117. That's why I haven't called them in 10 years. That is a ridiculously absurd amount to charge for what little he did.

I would highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: I had a very good experience with this company. They came out to fix my sprinkling system after having a bad experience with another landscaper. They showed up on time, were friendly, reasonable in price, and the best part my sprinkling system works GREAT!!!

Nature rained out the original install date. They showed up early this morning and got right to work. They first removed all the old sod. Then they prepared the ground and made sure the sprinklers were working properly. After installing the new sod, they prepared the two new beds I asked for. One around the ugly phone box on my property with plantings to help hide it. Then a larger one with my new October Maple tree. There are other plants in that bed too. About twenty plants total. I forgot to mention this in my first review. While talking Tom and John learned I have heart and lung disease. I don't know why but both times have been some of the hottest weather we've had. Last time, Tom came back on his own time to do a watering that was need by hose. They didn't want me out in the heat. Today before leaving John watered everything in good so I wouldn't have to. Now the sprinkler system will do the rest. I really liked what they did the first time. Now, I love the total finished look. Wish I'd have done it all at once. Either way I had the budget but not the foresight. Now I and Rocky are just enjoying the view as we will for hopefully many years to come. It still blows my mind that seeing Tom's drawing of a project and pictures help a lot. Suddenly it's for real and much better than on paper. Thank you to the whole hard working staff.
Description of Work: After the great job they did, I thought I needed more to make it look more finished. What I didn't ask them to do first time, looked really bad. Now it's the best on the block.

I contacted Mist O Matic after seeing the work they had done for my nephew. Tom came out to speak with me about what I needed to do. Our next meeting was him presenting the drawn out plan. He also brought pictures of all plantings. He listens well and got it right the first time around. I admit to being like a kid waiting for Christmas. My niece and nephew had talked about how nice and friendly everybody was and I too found this to be so. Once mother nature finally cooperated, the job was done on the schedule that I was told it would be. Even the sod day after yet more rain, the guys finished up crawling around on soaked grass and mud. They refused to leave before the job was complete. I must say here, I felt sorry for the whole crew. The weather conditions for a month went from very wet to very hot and humid. I wouldn't have wanted to be out working in it. They also cleaned up after themselves. All areas materials had been and left a mess were made right before leaving. Now for the good stuff. I purposely waited two weeks to file this report. They instructed me to water three times daily for two weeks. John even set up the timer for me to make it easy. If I couldn't kill all they did nobody can. Following their simple instructions has kept everything looking good and gathering tons of compliments. There is not one thing I would change. Just remembered. During the landscaping part, Tom saw what he thought might be a better option for me. He was right and we went with that one change. It was black rock ground cover where new sod was originally going to be. It makes to nice little sitting areas. Also keeps grass away from AC unit. I will use this company in the future and recommend them to anybody I know who needs to do the kind of thing Mist O Matic does so well. Tom may not like this but here goes. His father fell ill and so on top of all the hats he already wore, he is doing the work of his father too. Tom really cares about the work and the customers satisfaction. I can't thank him enough for making a nightmare become the dream I had for my home.

Mist-o-Matic installed and maintained our old sprinkler system for over 15 years, quite competently, But at some point they branched out into landscaping, and our experience was a disaster. We requested an estimate from them in February, because we wanted to be first on their list for laying sod in the spring. We had already had the old miserable lawn professionally killed, so they did not have to worry about weeds. They gave us a price that was higher than a reputable competitor, but met his written estimate to get the work. Being early in the year was important to us, since we were going to be out of town for several periods beginning the first week in May, and wanted to be there to watch the installation, and to make sure that their sprinkler system was adequately watering the front lawn. I finally had to put my foot down: they had had our first departure date for months, and it was only two weeks before that. I told them that if they delayed further I would require a release for them, stating that if their sprinkler system failed, and the lawn died because of it, they would replace it at no cost to us. "You don't need anything in writing, we're not that kind of company." Yeah, right, what a joke that turned out to be. They finally installed the sod on or about April 19 (we were going away May 3). Five days later I called them to say that about a quarter of the strips were turning yellow, and others were pulling away and leaving gaps. They said, don't worry, just keep watering it. They came out and would not replace those strips. They said, give it three weeks, so I gave it three weeks and it did not get better. Then they said give it another month. I told them if I wanted a yellow lawn all summer I could do a lousy job myself, and not pay them all that money! I called them every week to give them a progress report, and they said they did not want me to call them any more. I guess what I resent the most is how they left the office staff to deal with their lousy work. I was not allowed to talk to the father or son who ran the place, and the poor woman who answered the phone of course could not answer any questions because she was not involved in the work. They told me to stop calling them every week, that they were not going to return my calls, and my insisting on talking to Tom Sr. or Tom Jr. was upsetting the staff. I told them that if they did not want to upset the staff, they should have returned my calls. I had every right to keep calling them until they call back and give me an answer, which they would not do. Finally, after seven weeks of lousy lawn, they announced they were not going to replace strips, and that was final. The lawn got worse. I had to hire an arborist, a local guy who had been taking care of our trees for more than ten years, to get the lawn right. I also told them that they had set the sprinkler so it did not cover the lawn, and they wanted to charge me to come out and adjust it. I told them I would not pay for such lousy work, and they said they had pictures of beautiful lawns (certainly couldn't be ours!) and they would take them into court if I tried to get my money back. He said he would tell the court that we just didn't water the lawn right, and it was out fault. My husband called merely to find out where they got the sod and the type of grass, so that in case a repair had to be made we could get matching sod, and they wouldn't tell him. They said we had no business knowing what type of sod they put down or where they got it. However, previously, Tom the estimator said that this sod was grown in dirt, and the higher quality sod was grown in peat, and had better root systems. They had not even offered that to me as an option! We had also asked Tom for a design and an estimate on our back yard, and showed him pictures of raised beds we had seen elsewhere, and the sort of affect we would like. He did not have a portfolio of his previous designs to show us. He brought us a sketch, not drawn to scale, that was unintelligible, and he had to label things (like our trees) because nothing was recognizable. He told us he did better with hardware like sprinkler systems, and didn't like working with growing things. However, he did not turn the job over to someone who did. I eventually told him not to bother with the design, and just work on getting the front lawn right. And after I saw how unresponsive they were when the lawn started going yellow, I wouldn't let them do anything to my plantings again. I am not even angry at them any more because the arborist made the lawn look beautiful. I laugh because what goes around comes around. Because they would not fix the problems with the front lawn sod, they lost full landscaping of an entire back yard, including sitting areas and raised beds, walkways and a pergola, as well as full plantings and sodding. While I am angry at their poor service, I have to laugh. They did themselves out of a job where they would have made many thousands of dollars by not replacing some strips of sod. They used to be a great sprinkler company, but their landscaping is poorly designed and disastrously executed. I don't know who they hire to actually do the work--they were very polite workers--but the people in charge do not stand behind their work and do not stand behind the sod they get from their suppliers. Tom even told us that they could have been given sod that was not freshly cut, but refused to do anything about it. They are in over their heads. How can they be landscapers if they can't even re-sod a small front lawn!
Description of Work: Mist-o-Matic put down sod in our front lawn, and adjusted the sprinkler system they had sold us years before. They said they could not do this unless they also sold us a new sprinkler computer and controller. After getting an estimate in February, I had to call them every few weeks for two months for an installation date. They finally installed the lawn on 4/19/2012. It was a disaster. One quarter of the strips should have been replaced because they were yellow and had no root system. They made us wait seven weeks, and then told us they would not replace anything, and not to call them any more. We had to call an arborist to come and make repairs to the lawn, and we are still fighting the crabgrass battle.

See above. Initally great, good product and instalation. The replacement went poorly, because of the selection and the person they put in charge. I would have to say we were 80 % happy, other than killing the transplant tree due to negligence, charging us full price for the replacement and bringing a shoddy tree over, and planting it poorly, they were great. I think the crew, was not well supervised, and someone who had nothing to loose and no training made a poor choice and his management chose to back him. We priced a new cherry at a reputable nursery and for $105 it could have been replaced, with a good specimen, and their cost far lower. Heck, we would have planted it ourselves -- we just can't get it to the site. So for about $110 they have lost perhaps another $3,000 in landscaping when the deck goes in, plus more in sprinkler installation and brickwork. I think the attitude was very poor. For the owner not to even call back -- that's just poor business.
Description of Work: We hired Mist-O-Matic last June to do the landscaping and bed installation at our home in Huron Twp. Tammy who did the estimate and supervised the job did a good job. We had several large pine, maple, beech, arborvitae, and cherry trees installed and guaranteed, as well as over 40 shrubs and plants. They enlarged beds and moved a 6 yr. old existing weeping Cherry tree about 5 feet out into the new bed. The "crew" dug it up and moved it to the top of the ground and didn't put into the new bed for over 3 hours, as the new top soil had not arrived. We understood the tree was not guaranteed, but because of poor handling it died several days later. We purchased a new one, but by that time their supplier, John Deere, could not provide a new b&b cherry, so they got one in a large container, but smaller than the one we paid for. It too died as it was dried out and sad looking when planted. It was guaranteed. This June they replaced a beech, a Crimson King maple and the cherry tree. The beech was planted at the road in full sun and wind, even though we asked if that was OK. That's why it died. So when replaced, it was moved to a protected site near the house. The replacement cherry went to the corner site, but was in very poor condition and had maybe 30 leaves on it ( I suspect it was of poor quality and left over from last season). We had no chance to pick it out as we did before, and were told by the planter ( no supervisor came out) they only had two and this was the best one. We were never offered a choice to decline it, and would have asked for a different type of tree if that's all they had. It was also larger than the tree it replaced and put deeper into clay soil, not raised half way out which is proper planting as they "had no soil along". It was dying by day two. I called and was told once they took it off the lot at John Deere, they could not return it and it wasn't guaranteed no matter if it was good or bad. Several calls to Myst-O-Matic failed to get a return call from the owner. I was told Tammy had left the company, so could not contact her. They said they were required to replace them, and that was it. They did say the other two replacements were beautiful trees, and they were! They had waited for one to come in special order, the beech, and it is beautiful. But I feel that we are being told, you got two exceptional trees, and one lemon, you should be happy. They said John Deere would not give them another (they should not have taken a poor specimen to begin with, but John Deere should not have let it leave the lot either). We have been happy with their irrigation system department, and the original landscaping, and replacements, but I think the way they are handling this is a poor choice on their part, foolishly as there is still more landscaping to be done. I won't work with a company that gives you 2/3 good service. It's sad, because I think the loss of the knowledgeable staff member cost them badly.

I had a bad feeling about this from the beginning because they tried to talk me out of getting inspections and permits from the city. I was treated condescendingly by the installers. I was screamed at by the receptionist. I have been threatened with a lawsuit. Since I am a senior citizen and also handicapped (must use a walker or wheelchair), it is difficult for me to get around. Therefore, after I was rudely accused of fraud and threatened with litigation by the office worker when I stopped payment on my check, I relented and wrote another check for $825, payment in full. I enclosed the check in a letter again requesting that Mist O Matic attend to the sprinkler heads, but I got no response. The sprinkler heads also present a hazard due to the fact they are placed too close to the sidewalk. Passerby can easily trip on them. In fact, I saw a small child walking and step on one and lose her footing and nearly fall.
Description of Work: They came out to give me an estimate for a sprinkler system for my front yard. They came an hour early, which meant that my appointment with them over lapped with an appointment with another company. I indicated to the man during the appointment that my neighbor did not want my sprinkler system to spray on his property. I also stated that I did not want the sidewalks wet. Based on their location and estimate, I hired them. The proposal was sent for inspection and approved. The work was scheduled, but they couldn't come out as scheduled because it was raining. They installed the sprinkler system the next day and I paid them. I was not happy with the installation because the sprinklers water my neighbor's driveway and the sidewalk. I called and they sent a technician the same day, but it was raining. He tried to make adjustments, but they didn't work. I called them at least 4 times more, but they didn't answer. When I finally got them, they sent someone else out again in the rain, but they claim nothing is wrong with the installation because the sprinkler heads work. Because they refuse to correct the problem, I placed a stop payment to them until they resolve the problem.

I have a lot of confidence in this company. They are responsive and professional. The work was done quickly. I paid them each time they came.
Description of Work: Mist-O-Matic Sprinkling shut my sprinklers off last fall and opened them up and checked them over this spring. He had to repair one of them.
