Rob was awesome- I just want to say thank you soooo much for taking care of us. He came out the same day after our CO alarm was going off and he was very knowledgeable. He filled us in on everything that was happening with our system and what the plan was forward. Customer service on point and good pricing on services. He showed us exactly where cracks were in our system with no issue at all and quickly drew up a reasonable quote for a new furnace to be installed the next day. Thank you so much! 10/10 would recommend!

Two installers said they were going to be at my house in the morning at a particular time and that they would be able to get everything installed and done the same day. They came earlier than expected and i was not ready for them as i had some errands. So I had to cancel my errands to let them in. Next about half way through they stated they were double booked and had to leave to do another job and they would come back. They came back only to tell me they'd have to come back tomorrow to finish the installation. After finishing the installation it seemed to be okay. Then about a month later it quit putting out heat. I had to take another day off of work for them to come out and look at it. The person came out almost three hours later than the estimated time-frame and I had to call them to remind them they had set an appointment with me. The installers didn't install the exhaust pipe at the correct pitch so water will building up and shutting off the safety mechanism. They scheduled another time to come out and fix it. They never showed. It was the last time I'll use them. For someone who can't afford to take days off work, having a service person who is somewhat punctual is fairly important to me.

Service was wonderful. It was very scary coming into a building that is 88 degrees! Kallas came out very quickly and checked everything. He let us know exactly what had happened with the thermostat and put us at ease. I highly recommend this company!

Please see above story as my experience with the company was not satisfactory.
Description of Work: On 1/10/12 Kallas Heating and Cooling came to install an Aprilaire whole house humidifier that was purchased as part of a "Seize The Deal" promotion their company had offered. At that time, all work had been completed in a satisfactory manor. On 11/26/12 after noticing that house seemed drier than normal and also noticing that the humidifier didn't seem to be working, I called Kallas Heating and Cooling to set up an appointment for it to be looked at, I spoke with Julie. I also wanted to sign up for their annual maintenance program and have them do a clean and check on my furnace. The soonest they could schedule me was 12/26/12. After telling my wife this, she hit the roof. Her problem being that we had malfunctioning equipment that they installed and it was going to A MONTH before they could come and look it. She called them and spoke Doris. Matt came out on 11/29/12 to look at the humidifier. As it turned out the humidistat(control switch) was bad. There was no cost for the new part as Aprilaire warranties their products for a period of 5 years. However, there was a charge of $79.00 for labor. Upon hearing this, I called their office and spoke with Jim. I was informed that they only stand behind the installation of their products for 30 days. Past that if something goes wrong, their is a charge for labor. Further, he informed me that this practice is an industry standard in this area (Genesee Co.). After explaining to him that I was upset with the labor charge for the repair of a product purchased from his company and less than a year old, I was informed that "if I were to guarantee our service for more than 30 days, we wouldn't make any money". At that point, I knew I wasn't going to get anywhere with him as far as returning my money. Their labor guarantee is printed right on their reciepts. I was stuck with a $79.00 bill for the repair of equipment purchased less than 1 year ago from a Kallas Heating and Cooling and it only took Matt 20 minutes to diagnose and fix the problem. I was so upset that I called around to several other Local heating and cooling companies, some large, some small, just to see what their "Labor Guarantee" said. Every single one of them stated that they guarantee their labor for a periord of 1 YEAR, provided that they installed the equipment or if the problem that they were originally called to fix was still an issue. So, not only does Kallas Heating and Cooling not value their customers satisfaction with their services or stand behind the products that they sell, but they also must be aware that they are doing poor quality workmanship on their jobs if they are not willing to stamp their name to it for more than 30 days. My advice to other comsumers is to be aware of the "Labor Guarantee" up front. Get several bids on the job you are looking to do. Do not always go with the cheapest bid simply because you will get what you pay for. And, finally, trust your gut instict regarding the contractor you are hiring. I WILL NEVER USE NOR RECOMMEND KALLAS HEATING AND COOLING TO ANYONE!!! The old saying of "If you don't take care of the customer, somebody else will" applies 100% in this case. All I can say is that for $79.00 they have lost a customer and purchased as much bad publicity as one person can spread.

Installer came at appointed time and worked alone most of the day. Other contractors said they send 2 men. He encountered some problems, was running late, so another man showed up late in the day to help with PVC piping and installation of the humidifier. I had issues with his workmanship right away (wanted to work fast and loose). Because I had a gas fireplace I said that it would be OK if they came back tomorrow to finish the job. They chose to stay and complete the work even though it was dark. They did the rooftop work in the dark (I should have had better sense than to allow it). I even had to furnish the ladders for them to do work on the roof. The truck the installer had apparently was not outfitted to cut and thread pipe for the gas lines. He had a kit of various lengths of pipe nipples, but it was missing the most commonly used lengths. Had to really scrounge around through the truck to get the pipe needed to finish work. Gas line to furnace isn’t plumb (vertical). I had put an Econo-Jet stainless vortex insert in the gas line of the old furnace to increase its efficiency many years ago and forgot about it. It would have been clearly visible during the dis-assembly process and I should have been asked if I wanted to keep it. It was never mentioned. I looked around the basement but couldn’t find it. The next day I had no hot water. They lit the pilot but didn’t rotate the knob to normal so the water heater would work properly. They bent the metal shield out of shape for the pilot opening. It was a royal pain getting that reshaped so it would fit properly. Condensate drains not pitched properly, going uphill on 1 run. Since it was November, they couldn't check out the AC at the time of the installation. AC didn’t cool the house as well as before. It didn’t seem to have enough airflow compared to old furnace. They sent an unlicensed serviceman (alone) to check out furnace. He didn’t solve problem, but did confirm the low airflow. Set up another appointment. Next guy was much better, determined that the motor control board was bad and had to be replaced. Had to wait for new part to be shipped and set up appointment for the installation. He asked me to get my manual so he’d know how to set the dip switches. He discovered dip switches had not been set properly during original installation. It seemed odd to me that he didn't have his own manual since he was coming to install the board. Second winter the house dried out so bad we had nose bleeds and trim joints opened up. I threw away the humidifier water panel and bought a replacement and reset the unit because that's what the flashing LED indicated. The house dryness continued, so I then determined that the solenoid controlling water flow to the unit never came on. I couldn't get the knob off the controller so I could check inside for a loose/broken wire, so I called Aprilaire tech support. Together we determined that a switch was in the wrong position and the dehumidifier never had worked. It takes about 30 seconds to test for water flow to the water panel if you understand how the unit works. Installers never bothered to see if humidifier ran or they really didn’t understand the features of the unit and how to install/test the unit. One PVC joint outside not glued. I discovered it leaning against the other pipe. Since it wasn’t glued, pipe could have rotated the other way and been blocked by snow. Vent cap on roof not level (Installed at night). The ‘QUALITY’ rating above was downgraded primarily for workmanship issues, not the quality of the materials. All the other issues combine to make an ‘unsatisfactory’ rating. It really pains me to write this evaluation. I like to support our local businesses if possible. The other contractors from whom I sought bids were selling the tax credits and utility rebates in effect at the time, thus inflating their prices. I had sought an estimate the previous year from Al Kallas and he was the only one who didn’t push the credits/rebates in his estimate. His integrity impressed me, that’s why his firm got the job. The installation took place during deer season so that may explain some of the hurry up and get it done, workmanship be damned attitude. I’ll never know for sure.
