My husband consulted with many contractors. He decided on Metropolitan based on reviews, cost, and professionalism. They showed up (quick) and removed the old sidewalk, framed (working with existing downspouts and a gasline), and poured all in one day. They were super neat, using pads to protect the lawn, and even cleaned the street (the neighbors noted that!). Next day they were out powerwashing and preparing for finish and sealing on the next (weather) sunny, dry day. They really exceeded our expectations, answering all questions and making suggestions. Very professional team throughout the process. I love the new patio, and so do the neighbors! Giovanni and team are exceptional!

Immediate response from company, rep showed up on time and the price was reasonable. Workers were prompt, friendly and any questions we had thought up answered politely. Our stamped sidewalk is just beautiful and the new garage floor is awesome. Planning on hiring company for new year's project. Great job and great workers.

I was very impressed with the work that Metropolitan did for me at my house. I Called to set up an estimate and Ron was able to come out the next day to give me a price quote. I was very pleased with my quote and that they were able to get me on the schedule quickly. My driveway looks great! The crew members were friendly cleaned up after themselves. I'm glad I choose Metropolitan to do my driveway!

I called Metropolitan Concrete for a quote to replace my old patio with a new larger stamped concrete patio. Jeremy from sales came over and measured up everything and showed us all of our options along with color charts and borders. He gave a a reasonable timeline and told me Giovanni would be touch with me and set a start date. Giovanni and his crew showed up and did a great job on our new patio. He always made himself available to answer my phone calls when I had questions (and I had plenty) and was always very pleasant to deal with, and always thanked me at the end of our conversation. This guy is a class act. We look forward to using Metropolitan Concrete in the future. They were truly a pleasure to deal with.

It went very well. The salesman come out within a few days. He explained the project to me and we agreed on a price but he did not give me a written estimate. When I was ready to commit we met again. I believe the price he had on the contract was higher than what we had verbally agreed upon. We came to an agreement and I signed. My job was given to a smaller subsidiary due to it's size and I thought oh no. But I can't be happier. He came out on the day scheduled, he and his guys worked very hard and my patio looks beautiful. I would hire them again. My only suggestion is to get a written estimate.

Five stars and kudos to Truck 56 and Doug's crew on Tuesday, May 16th on the Jeffries' driveway removal and replacement. This crew was amazing. Everyone of them worked their tails off and gave us one beautiful driveway and walkways. Doug is a maestro on the Bobcat. Metro Concrete is first class.

Overall, went well. They provided me with a quote within a few days of my call, and the work was completed about a month later. The workers arrived on time, and within a couple hours, had removed the existing concrete and prepared the site for the new concrete. Within one day, we had a new driveway. So far, everything looks good. From discussions with neighbors and friends, I'm thinking that they might cost a little more than others. However, they were able to do the work without much lead time, whereas other providers had 6 month or more lead time, if they even gave a quote. Hence, if you want the work done quickly and professionally, you probably can't go wrong with Metropolitan

Description of Work: They did our driveway, walkway, and front porch -all in raised aggregate (this service was around $21,000.00). They also did our patio in stamped concrete ( I do not remember the cost of this service)

Spoke to Giovanni after review. He was very professional. He shared that he had received some texts from my husband that had upset him while working out the electrical. He told me it is his desire to guarantee all customers are pleased w/ the job. We left on positive terms.
Description of Work: The concrete work is beautiful. During the job, the electricity from house to detached garage was knocked out. Instead of stopping the job and fixing, they poured concrete over it. When we told Giovanni abt the issue his response was short & curt. It happens at every job and they can't be held responsible. His salesman, Jeremy came by and suggested we split the cost. He brought an electrician w/ him. The electrician gave us a quote that didn't meet city code. He never came back to the house. Giovanni called us and threatened to put a lean on the house for the $1000 we held on the job. We explained we were still waiting for the electrician to show. Giovanni said he would send his personal electrician. The personal electrician never showed. Giovanni called a second time and threatened to put a lean on the house again. We explained his electrician had never showed. We contracted w/ our own electrician 2 months later for $850. We send a payment for the balance we owed minus half the cost of repair. Why not just stop the job and do it right? Didn't spend $20,000 to be treated rudely or to be threatened when not satisfied w/ quality of work. Very disappointing since the concrete is just what we wanted.

Mar 24th ... Project Manager Giovanni Bugli came to the house two days after calling for someone to bid the project. He was very professional and cordial. He presented us with a color brochure with patterns and colors for the stamped concrete and answered several of our questions regarding the company and products. He educated us on the differences between light and dark colors of concrete in relation to the sun exposure the concrete would be getting. He pointed out that his method of removing the brick pavers was to advertise on Craig's List and try to have someone remove them for free, then if that didn't work he would have his crew remove the pavers. Mar 26th ... Received an email from Giovanni with the bid quote for $4800 to do the project of approx. 400 sq ft of our choice of color and pattern of 6 bag mix of concrete containing 10 ga screen on a base of 21AA gravel and remove the brick pavers. Mar 31st ... Informed Giovanni via email that we would be going with a competitors bid ... not because of the cost (only $300 difference) ... but because we did not like the method to remove the brick pavers possibly involving unknown individuals from Craig's List coming to the house.
Description of Work: Bid stamped concrete project that involved a side door patio, back door patio, a smaller back area patio and removal of existing brick pavers from both back area patios.

Due to the fact we had purchased a shed we had to have installed by Sept. 2014 we were on a time frame to get the job done. The company was very busy but tried to work with us to squeeze it in, which they did. Our sales rep Barry tried to advocate for our job to get done and he did it. It was sometimes difficult waiting to see if we would get it done in time, especially since we had to commit without knowing if they would get it done. But it did work out and job was well done.

In early August of 2014, I called Metropolitan Concrete to get a quote for a patio to be installed in 2015. I was interested in having them quote based on reviews I had read here on Angie?s List. After my initial call, I was contacted by a salesman named Barry. I sent Barry a detailed dimensional drawing showing exactly what I wanted and asked him for a stamped concrete quote. I received the quote and sent him an e-mail thanking him. Roughly a month later due to some concerns of a possible job related relocation I asked Barry to resubmit the quote for regular (non-stamped) concrete. Barry obliged with a quote stating it was valid until 10/31/14. Barry also specified in the revised quote that the work would have to be performed in 2015. I was able to contact Barry on 10/28. After he agreed to a 10% deposit vs. the typical 20%, I told him we would like to proceed. Barry said he would get back to me by the end of the week with the contract. I did not hear back from Barry that week. I called him the following week and in this conversation Barry said he would get the revised pricing for 2015 over to me. I told him I found it strange he would need to revise the pricing, since his quote actually stated that the work would be done in 2015. Barry then told me he may have made a mistake and he would go talk to the owner and get back to me about a resolution. A while later after not hearing back I contacted Barry again. Barry told me that the price that the quote had not been reviewed by the owner and that without the owner's approval the quote is not valid. Barry said he would like to come out and inspect the site to make sure there were no equipment egress issues or other problems before taking this issue to the owner to persuade him to honor the quote. Barry also mentioned he would be forfeiting his commission as well since it was his mistake for releasing the quote without approval. I obliged and Barry came to my house to investigate. Since this is a new sod lawn with no issues our visit consisted of him telling me the same story about all quotes being reviewed by the owner and that he would be forfeiting his commission to try and convince the owner to the approve the quoted pricing. Finally, on 12/10 I received a new quote from Barry with a higher price ($300+). Ethically wrong. I was not happy, but not the end of the world. The final straw for me was the disclaimer at the bottom of the quotes stating that if permits are required the cost of the permit plus an additional $150 processing fee for each permit would be due upon final payment. I have no problem with paying permit fees or the additional processing fees. However, if you know a permit is needed for the project you are quoting, put it in the quote! I understand disclaimers about unforeseen issues, but this is a black or white issue. As a contractor you know whether or not a permit is needed for a project like this. I just feel that should have been figured into the grand total of the quote, not as a disclaimer added at the bottom. I am an engineering contractor and when I give a bottom line price it includes everything, i.e. EVERYTHING! Not to mention the $150 processing fee per permit seems excessive. In closing, Barry seemed like a nice gentleman, but I do not feel customer service is his strong suit. In a nut shell this is 2015, not getting back to a customer for days after I they have called, e-mailed, and texted is not acceptable. In case any of you are wondering, my calls, e-mails and texts were not angry ones, they were all along the lines of ?Barry, haven?t heard from you, could you please let me know the status of this quote?. However, I was not so nice on my final call when I told him that I was done. After experiencing the lack of communication, quoting fiasco and exclusion of permit costs in the quoted price we will not be working with Metropolitan Concrete. ***** Update 1/14 ***** The rebuttal posted by this company is just amazing! For starters I am the man of the house and I am the only one who talked to Barry from day one. However, our Angie's List account is in my wife's name, so their review continues to refer to me as the woman they dealt with. Obviously, the person writing their comments has no firsthand knowledge of the events that took place. They are simply trying to discredit a detailed factual review. The reply from the Metropolitan Concrete is correct when they say I did not accept the first quote. Mind you this wasn?t a complete revamp, I simply asked them to give me the price for the exact same patio without the costs of stamping. They say I turned down the second quote because I would not pay 20% down. Not true of course, I confirmed that I would like to proceed with Barry verbally on 10/28 with the agreement of 10% down. Barry did not put up much of a fuss on taking 10%. I thought we had a deal until he let things slide past the quote?s deadline. Then, they say they offered me a third quote that had a 10% down offer that I turned down because I wouldn?t agree to the down payment terms. According to their logic they gave me exactly what I wanted and I still turned it down. I must be a lunatic! Their rebuttal to my review doesn?t make any sense, and if it doesn?t make sense, it?s not true. As you can see by their diatribe about permits, you will be guessing how much the permits and fees will cost you. Call me crazy, but they say in the review I probably won?t need one. Not that they could tell me that when I asked them. Let?s look at a worst case example though. Let?s say I need 3 permits like they mention some driveways take. (3 x $150 fee per permit) + Actual cost of permits = $500+. That?s already an 11% increase on price quoted. Do you want to gamble on unknown costs when you are planning a project? I?m sorry, I?m an engineering contractor and I spend a lot of time and money quoting projects that I don?t always get. In the end, I do however, always give them final pricing that takes into account all known/foreseeable costs (and yes I do see the costs of permits with regard to a backyard patio as a foreseeable cost). Sometimes clients ask me to make some changes and send the quote back again. In the end I don?t get every job, but I certainly don?t tell lie to myself about why I didn?t get the work or make a stink about having to touch a quote more than once. I try to learn what I could do next time to ensure I get the work. Finally if it helps to show who is telling the truth, look at google reviews for this company and you will find a similar commentary on getting in touch with Barry on yellowpages. This review was written before I ever had dealing with them. I should have listened. One item in the rebuttal was correct; we were definitely not a good fit to work together. PS - It's very hard to sign a contract to proceed or to counter an offer when your second quote consists of nothing more than the following e-mail. After I received this I we talked on the phone and negotiated to the 10% down. After that I was unable to get a return call or e-mail from Barry until the following week. Hi Matthew, I was able to reduce the patio to $5367.50 if you change to classic concrete, no color. This price I am quoting will be good until 10/31/14, and applies for jobs scheduled for next spring. Our schedule is full for the remainder of this year. Please let me know if wish to move forward and I can prepare a proper contract and drawing. Thank you, Barry

It went very well. They were on time and completed work when they promised. I was kept informed and welcomed the suggestions they offered. They worked with a contractor rebuilding my deck to assure the cement and deck work went together to keep critters from nesting under the deck and to enhance the overall look of both projects .. I was a little surprised at some of the cleanup left for me but I understand this is the norm. Other than that they were far above norm and I would use them again.

The salesman was very knowledgeable. I explained that I wanted to expand the driveway to the property line and I wanted to expand the approach quite a bit, but I knew Saint Clair Shores has a lot of rules and regulations on driveways and approaches. Right after talking to me he went to the City with the drawing to see if I what I wanted would be approved by the city and called me back within an hour or two to let me know it could be done. Metropolitan came out on a Tuesday to lay the platforms for the cement. After they left, I inspected what was done to compare to what the agreed upon drawing was and noticed a discrepancy. I called the Project Manager and arranged a time to meet with him and they corrected the problem to my satisfaction. The work crew was very hardworking and professional. I have had cement work done in the past, where the work crew left a mess. This work crew cleaned up everything after themselves and answered all my questions about when the cement could be walked on and the car driven on. I told the Project Manager and the Foreman that I was worried about kids carving their names and someone accidently turning around on the new approach. They brought out sawhorses and put them in front of the expanded approach. I bought construction fence and the work crew happily put that up for me and stringed caution tape around the whole project. I would recommend Metropolitan to my friends and family.

Metropolitan Concrete Corp was actually one of the most professional companies I've worked with for a quote and he had some really good ideas. He is pretty good. He was very punctual, very professional and very knowledgeable. I had a drainage issue so I was kind of bouncing ideas off of them and he was kind of giving me options of what they could possibly do with the downspout drainage. Basically it was good to hear the guy throw out some options and then even point out things that I could do like related to other parts of the driveway.

Response from Metropolitan Concrete Corp
This job was done in the summer of 2012, not 2014 as stated in Mr. [removed member name] complaint. Our attempts to ask him to correct the information he submitted have failed. We have supplied Angie's List with copies of our contract and cancelled checks verifying the date this job was completed. In response to a phone call to our office from Mr. [removed member name] this month, May of 2014, a project manager from Metropolitan Concrete was sent to his home to inspect his concrete. It appeared that there was some spalling on the top surface in some areas. We strongly advise our customers against the use of chemical deicers on new concrete, especially in the first year of use. We provide this warning in writing and we exclude from our 1-year warranty any coverage in cases where chemical deicers are used. These situations are simply out of our control. The result of deicers is spalling. This particular complaint although likely would have been excluded as a result of chemical deicers, which the customer acknowledged using; was also a full year past its' 1-year warranty. The job was 2-years old. It is always our intention to make all of our customers completely satisfied customers for life. We can only control our part of the transaction. No one is ignored. Even though the job was well out of our standard warranty, we sent a seasoned project manager to make sure there was nothing out of the ordinary or unusual such as failure of product or installation. There was not. We offered Mr. [removed member name] a substantial discount to replace the affected areas as a courtesy. He declined.

barry was very nice and professional and we were working on the details of our proposed project when he said that he did have concerns about the welfare of the large beautiful white pine tree just adjacent to, and slightly over, the project area. I had had another company out who said, when i asked, there was no potential problem or harm for the nearby pine . Barry added that his company has consulted with arborists on the is subject of pouring concrete under the canopy of existing trees and they have learned there can be harm or death to such a tree. Needless to say i was hugely appreciative of his candor and honesty and concern for our tree which is a centerpiece of our front yard. my husband and i readily decided not to risk the health of this tree and with the remaining part of the project too small, barry said "i guess i talked my self out of your job!" although we did not proceed with this job, I wanted to give Metropolital concrete credit for their professionalism and wanting to know how their work might affect the homeowners landscape. Very impressive!
