Terry and his team turned out 1,800 sq ft walk-out basement from cement and steel, into a gorgeous finished basement. Terry handled everything from scheduling inspections to custom building and staining shelving for the dry bar. He is experienced and knowledgeable enough to manage the entire process autonomously, but still humble enough to get down into the smallest of details. He uses only the best help (master electrician, plumber, etc.) and every vendor he recommended for custom materials (granite, cabinets, etc.) was top notch and knew Terry on a first name basis. In all, he put in an entertainment room, a play area for our small child(ren), an office, a 3/4 bath, several storage areas, and a custom dry bar. The project was completed well within the agreed upon time frame and at the price we agreed to. But above all else, what sets Terry apart is his customer service. My wife and I can be a bit excessive in wanting updates, and are also meticulous in inspecting the final work. However, Terry responded directly to our calls/texts within minutes and kept an unwavering positive and professional enthusiasm. He had no issue coming back to our home personally to fix the tiniest of imperfections. Here are three things that stood out to me during this project, that just go to prove that Terry and his team are the best: 1) After completing the framing, the city inspector told Terry his team used the wrong size wood and insisted it wasn’t to code. Terry quoted the building code book to the inspector, who still didn’t believe him. Terry went to his house, got his code book, and proved the inspector wrong. This is the city inspector, who’s job it is to know the code, and Terry ran circles around him. 2) At one point during the project, we blew a fuse on our main floor. We asked Terry if he could recommend an electrician. Instead, Terry offered to take a look and spent hours fixing the shotty (and not up-to-code) work the previous homeowners did. He completely fixed the electrical problem on our main floor, where he wasn’t even doing work. Oh, and he did it as a favor. Saved us hundreds (if not more). 3) After completing framing, we clarified we preferred a pony wall in the bathroom. They had already framed a full wall. Terry cut it down and reframed, without any additional cost and without any hesitation. If you are remodeling a basement, you will not find a better team. -Ryan & Sammy

Terry and Kevin are absolutely amazing and incredibly easy to work with. We were hesitant to hire a contractor over a basement finishing company, but Terry's reviews on Angie's List convinced us, and, truly, he was so reliable, trustworthy, and made the entire process feel seamless. We finished about 400 sq ft of our basement (which included a wet bar and cabinetry) for about $20,000. They were respectful of our home, polite, and professional, and we felt comfortable having them in our house even when we weren't around. Their attention to detail and quality of workmanship is impeccable. They went above and beyond to make sure the basement and service, in general, were everything we wanted. There were even times I came home to a shoveled driveway and mail on the table. The project went slightly over the projected timeline, but that was mostly due to delays with a different vendor and out of the control of the contractor. Overall, we are more than pleased with our experience with Terry, Kevin, and the rest of the team (special shout out to Ron the painter!!), have referred them to many others already, and hope to have the opportunity to hire them again in the future!

Terry completed the project quickly and efficiently, with a high level of quality and professionalism. We were very pleased with the final product and how the project came in at budget, and in less time than expected. I would definitely recommend Terry for all basement renovation needs.

We could not be happier with our finished basement and with our dealings with the owner, Terry Poirier, and his team (especially Kevin!). Basements are their specialty and it shows in the finished product. They had great suggestions and also listened to special requests...like a small under-the-stairs playroom for our granddaughter. Good communication and follow through, They kept the workspace clean and were very respectful of our home. I would gladly hire them again and absolutely recommend them.

Terry had a very competitive bid and was willing to work with us to meet our budget. He had a clear quote, started on the day we agreed on and kept us informed all along the way. We have used multiple contractors over the years and he is definitely one of the best! He would text and keep us updated on who was coming and what was happening. Terry and his crew cleaned up after themselves and Ron the painter was one of the neatest painters we have seen! I am very happy with the workmanship and detail they brought to the job.

First, let me start by writing… If I had to work with You Got A Guy Construction again, would I? The answer would be absolutely YES. The preliminary discussions on the scope of the project, the estimate and final drawings were exactly on target. The job started on time and was finished as scheduled and with high quality. During the remodel, Terry did an excellent job communicating status and next steps. Terry also provided outstanding suggestions when we requested input/ideas for particular areas within the basement. Terry did an outstanding job. Terry, his carpenter, Kevin and his painter, Ron, treated the job as if they were working on their own home. They took the time to make sure everything was done to perfection. They accommodated some minor changes along the way, and were very helpful with suggestions to improve the design. We always knew when they would be in the house, and always cleaned up after themselves. We absolutely recommend hiring them!

From my very first interaction with Terry, I knew we found the person that would complete our project. Terry is very responsive and very committed to his work. I mentioned to Terry on the phone that we were about a year away from wanting to do our project and just wanted to get an idea on price, so if he wanted to wait to me I understood. Terry said that it would be a good time to meet so he came over. Terry was very attentive to what we wanted to accomplish with our space and helped us maximize it through ideas. My wife and I both knew after see the layout, reading his reviews, and seeing pictures of his work; that this was the person for our project. The price was in the range I thought it should be, so we did not seek another quote. The fact that Terry carries all the appropriate insurances, is licensed, pulls permits, and has a formal contract with appropriate language in it were the things we needed. Once it came time for our project to begin, Terry and Kevin showed up and hit the ground running. His subs were very responsive to meeting his timelines also. There was always a smooth transition from one phase to the next, and Terry went out of his way to ensure we knew exactly what was going on, who was going to be there, and what the next steps would be. The level of professionalism and communication makes me wish he would have been the person that built our house for us. This is how a home project should go. We have already talked to Terry about a smaller project in our upstairs bathroom. I can not say enough how much we love the work that Terry and Kevin did in our basement. It truly is no longer a basement, but a finished lower level.

The work done was fantastic. Terry worked with us the whole time letting us know status, issues or new ideas he might have. He was always available to talk on the phone and discuss anything. I actually called him after the framing was done at like 10pm to tell him that I thought the bedroom closet wasn't going to work in its current location and that I thought it should be moved, which he very calmly told me that it was no problem and asked me to mark where I thought it would make more sense to have it, which I did. Next day, Kevin came in and redid the framing for the closet in the location I marked, they didn't even charge us anything extra for that. We also ended up asking for a bench in the bathroom shower which was not on the original plans that we agreed on, Terry incorporated it quickly with no complaints. Terry also handled working with the city inspector regarding the permits. Our basement design ened up having a lower ceiling in one section in the middle of it which was lower that 7 feet, this was because the basement ceiling was weird (HVAC ducts, PVC pipes and other portruding things past the bottom of the joists) and it would cause some parts to be higher in that section that others, so Terry asked us if it would make sense to bring it down to the lowest hieght section so it could be even and square, to which we agreed. However, the ceiling that low (about 6 feet 8 inches including drywall) is not up to code and the city inspector would not approve the framing however Terry worked relentlessly with the cheif inspector so that they would understand why it was like that and the issues it would cause if it wasn't done this way, he even got the cheif inspector to come out and take a look for himself so he could understand. Once he saw and understood everything, he signed off on the permits. This did delay our timing which was unfortunate but everything was properly done and approved which was the more important thing. Also the lower section ended up being a welcome addition to the layout of the room since the home theater secition is right under it and it looks like we had ennvisioned it that way from the beginning, sort of highlighting the section (we also paited it a differet color to accent it). Now we can't even envision it being any other way. Finally, Terry's and Kevin's help in the home theater section was invaluable. I purchased a bunch of things to add to it but they installed everything, we are talking running cables (speaker, subwoofer, ethernet, IR eye, Coax, HDMI), installing in-wall speakers (including a bit of special framing for my center channel speaker), setting up a specific section in the ceiling where we could hang the HD projector (making sure there was enough distance to project a big enough image) and installing the projector mount, helping me hang a 100 inch home theater screen, putting some boards up in the control room to neatly connect all the speakers, etc. Overall we had a fantastic experience with Terry, Kevin and the rest of the crew/skilled trades (which are all really good at what they do). The only issue, which is minor AND was affected by the permit issue, was the time it took to complete, however in the end the quality was worth the wait. We would definitely hire You Got a Guy again in a second. I am very picky about who I hire to work on my home and I can say that You Got a Guy Contruction is at the top of my list for any other home improvement work I might need. I already want to get them to work on my master bathroom and throw some ideas at them, unfortunately I need to save up some money before doing that otherwise they might be in there right now working on it. Terry and his crew are the most skilled, professional, responsive contractors I have ever worked with. From beginning to end, they were there to guide me, listen to me and get the job done in a timely fashion to my satisfaction. Terry is a perfectionist with attention to detail. The work was excellent. Terry and Kevin did a great job. The basement was completed faster than we expected. We were very happy with the work. We were so happy we have them currently completing another construction job at our house. We would recommend their services to others.

Overall I'm extremely pleased with everything. I wanted to wait a month before reviewing to allow some time living in the space and now I spend more time in the new spaces than anywhere else. Customer Service What impressed me the most was Terry's communication and customer service. He was always very quick to return calls and answer emails to ensure we were always on the same page and there was never confusion on what was going to be accomplished and when. He was upfront with pricing and direct on how changes to the plan would affect cost. I never felt out of the loop or surprised. Quality I'm very happy with the finished look. Every finished space has a professional look. He was great about hiding pipes and allowing light during the design process. My finished office is wonderfully quiet due to his insulation recommendation. The wainscoting is beautiful. The painting is crisp. The rooms are as warm as the ground floor. Process While I think the timeline was longer than originally expected, the process did move along pretty quickly and there were never any points were we were "just waiting". Terry's crew and subcontractors were respectful, patient and professional. They were generally timely and discreet. I have two small kids and there was never an issue with the flow of the house while they worked. In fact my son wants to be builder just like Kevin the carpenter now.

Having experienced a number of less than impressive contractors in the past, You Got a Guy Construction and Terry were a breath of fresh air. The entire experience has been fantastic. Terry is very knowledgeable and personable. From the very beginning of the process, Terry was extremely responsive to our questions and concerns. Within days of our initial meeting we had a quote in hand based on our initial discussion of what we had hoped to have completed. Terry was able to provide suggestions as to how to best accomplish some of our goals and gave us ideas that allowed us to tweak the overall design. Throughout the process Terry was always available and communicated constantly. We never had to wonder who would be at our home, when they would arrive or what they would be doing on any given day. If someone was running late we were notified of that as well. Kevin and Russ were very professional, as well as being extremely skilled and knowledgeable. We were very comfortable having them in our home and in fact, will miss having them around. The other trades we encountered were wonderful, in fact we have already used the services of the plumber, painter and electrician for other jobs in our home. Throughout the entire process Terry was always in communication with us and was very accommodating to any changes we requested. The final cost came in higher than the quote but only because of things we added throughout the process, i.e., more cabinets, more granite, more tile, etc. Had we not added the additional items, the quote would have been right on target. We can't find anything negative to say about Terry or our experience with this company. We have already recommended Terry to a number of people for their projects and have already requested a quote for an additional project for us! We can't imagine having a poor experience with this company.
