Student Painters

Powerwashing was barely done on all requested surfaces, and although the service agreement included 2 coats of paint on all surfaces, only a single coat was applied on most of them. They also left the garden hose water running after they had left. Price was about 20% lower than estimates from two other companies so I guess we got what we paid for.

Lucas was friendly and easy to work with. The student painters came out within 24 hours of me requesting an estimate, and did a thorough evaluation, coming back with a price much lower than anyone else in the area. They pressure washed all surfaces, and came and painted my porches, as well as stained my deck. They were always friendly and went above and beyond expectations. They even trimmed my shrubs to prevent them from getting in the way. When looking at the finish, one of the students offered to come back after a couple of days just to touch up some spots. It is amazing the work ethic of these kids, I would be highly inclined to use them for future exterior painting projects.

They did a pretty bad job. I have a fenced in yard with a gate, and they left the gate open many times, allowing my dogs to get out. Their workmanship was not good, they didn't call if they weren't showing up, and I was overall dissatisfied with the project. When I tried to call the owner, no one returned my call.

The experience was excellent overall! They were students in college and were so professional, more professional than other companies that I’ve worked with. They went above my expectations and I will use them again!

They did a pretty good job. The one compliant that I passed on to them was that they didn't let me know they were coming. Two guys just showed up one day about 6 weeks after I signed a contract. There was no notice that somebody was coming that day. It was a little bit of a concern. I would use them again in the future if need be.

However, they didn’t prime the wall so the paint is coming off. I’ve been trying to have them come back out to fix it up but they aren’t the same ones that came out the first time. They started in April and finished in August because they are college kids. They also painted other areas of the outside of the house. The paint job was great but they just didn’t prime the garage.

I had a wonderful experience with them. I rate them high overall.

James came out on Friday to pressure wash the house. He and his team showed up at 7 am on the 19th of July. They were the hardest working young men I have seen in a long time. It was very hot and humid that whole week but they worked diligently throughout the day. James inspected the house throughout the day correcting problems before we even noticed. They completed the house in 4 days (it rained one of those days and they had to stop early). We did a walk around at the end of the job and couldn't find anything that needed correcting. These are young men going to college that work painting houses during their summer break. If you looked at my home you would think a painter with 20 years of experience had done the job.

They were very friendly, nice and punctual and worked with me on the payment since I couldn't pay the balance right away. But, the work quality was definitely lacking.

What they did do. Pressure washed the house from the ground. Fence had green moss still on it when the pressure wash was done. They were 1/2 way done with painting the fence, when I noticed they were just painting over the dirt/moss. They did not caulk the cracks in the wood nor the windows. They painted over nails that were sticking out of loose boards, without even letting me know the nails were loose. Got paint marks on the 2 year old siding and when I pointed it out they started just wire brushing it to get it off doing more damage. I was so frustrated and spoke with Zack about this and told him look at the Windows, those were not even caulked. Oh yes we did caulk those he said. I pointed out the paint on the 2nd story Window and he claimed they did not do that. I was so frustrated I just wanted them out of there. The next day I went up on the roof to clean the window, I could see the nails described earlier as well as the lack of caulk on the windows. I also noticed high up Facia boards that were not even painted as well as the top parts of the fence.. I put a payment hold on the check, and it was only then that I finally got Zack's attention. He returned a few days later with another worker and they proceeded to work another 6 hours. By the way, the window they claimed they caulked took about a tube of Caulk. Within a year we already had some paint peeling. While going over the paint warranty I noticed that it disclaims the warranty if the paint is applied in direct sunlight or in Temperatures above 90 degrees. The temp on the two days they were there were well over 90, because I bought the kids a couple cases of pop and Gatorade to keep them hydrated in the hope I would get good quality work. All it did was add cost to my bottom line. Take it from me, do not use this organization. I should have listened to my gut which said ignore the $400 price advantage. I had already seen that this organization had financial run ins and reorg'd once. I bought Zacks "were a new company" story when I asked him about this. Zack was a very good sales man, but its all lipservice. No substance to the promises.

They were prompt, and they did a good job. They were responsive and professional.

I am a teacher and I have taught for thirty years. The idea of the business is attractive to me. The business is made of college kids that need work for the summer. Kyle tells them exactly what to do and how to do it. They did the job perfectly. The level of craftsmanship was excellent. They were very polite and professional.

The supervisor came and went over everything we wanted done. The quotation was very detailed and specific. We did put down a $200 deposit. We provided him with the paint colors and they furnished Sherwin-Williams paint. The job was later scheduled. The crew arrived on the date promised and performed work according to the quotation. The supervisor then came back to walk through everything with us and collect the balance due. There were a couple of spots missed which were taken care of within one week.

I thought that their work was good and that they were very reasonably priced. They were very good at communicating and letting us know when they would be here so there were no surprises.

Dave Pugh was very professional. He was articulate and respectful. I had already gotten a lot of professional quotes before talking to him. He described in detail the process he would be using. He pointed out things that were not done correctly that he was going to fix. He described in detail that they would be using Sherwin Williams paint that the warranty would be valid. I had work done under warranty for half the price. I was very happy. He did a great job for an unbelievable value.

It was a nightmare from start to finish. It was supposed to take 4 days and it took over a month. They did no prep work and I am sure we will have to have our house repainted next year.

They did a mediocre job. They got paint everywhere. I was really disappointed with the quality of the work they did because it seemed like they were not being very professional. I just didn t like them at all.

They were quiet, and very mannerly and played no loud music. They did the best job. It's nice when you get someone who does what they say the they are going to do in the time they say they are going to do it. You get a whole contract and warranties on it and they do take time to come in and find out what you want done. They will come back in a day or two to find out if anything needs to be touched up. They did this in two 90 degree days. They painted from about 8:30am til 6:00 at night. They really worked hard.

We discovered Student Painters at the Dayton Home and Garden Show. Mr. Ryan Barker was the representative at the show. Our understanding was that this was a group of students from a local university who were gaining experience running a small business and also the learning the trade of house painting. Mr. Barker called to schedule an appointment to give an estimate to paint the exterior of our home. He did not show up for the appointment and never called to provide an explanation. We repeatedly tried to contact Mr. Barker, but our calls were never returned. It was a very frustrating and disappointing experience.

Overall, it went very well. The crew arrived on time everyday and drop-clothed all areas they were working in. There was a crew of three people painting and the student manager who overlooked the job was also often at the site to ensure the progress. It took about a week to complete. The only complaint I had was that they could have been neater at the end of each day with where they left their supplies. Several times we had to pick up empty paint cans/brushes off our lawn. When they were finished, our house looked great. Overall, they did a nice job and were very fair in their estimate for the job.

One coat DIDN't cover as promised. Coverage poor. Painted w/i 12 hrs of a 3 day rain & then later also in the rain. Stopped painting in the rain (after 2 hrs) only after we told them we called Sherwin williams and asked about proper painting conditions and S/W said ''TELL THEM TO STOP PAINTING''. It rained hard for 2-3 hrs within 1 hr of job being finished. Missed many areas needing caulked, scraped, primed. The only ones they did were the ones I had to point out/complain about. 2nd coat on gutters was either not applied or applied before first coat was dry. Spilled paint on siding, sidewalk, porch, & roof. Some areas (up high) got little to no paint. Had I not pointed out the obvious, little to no scraping, priming, or caulking would have been done. Just an overall disaster. The obvious problem was that bad weather put them behind schedule and then they rushed the job irregardless of the wet weather.

Alex and his crew were very professional, thorough, did a very good job!

I NORMALLY WOULD NEVER CALL A SERVICE PROVIDER BASED ON A ROAD SIGN, BUT I LIKED THE CONCEPT OF THIS COMPANY AND THE WEBSITE PROVIDED EXCELLENT INFORMATION ABOUT THE STUDENTS WHO DO THE WORK. THE STUDENT MANAGER, DAVID DUBLE, CAME TO OUR HOUSE FOR AN EVALUATION THE DAY AFTER I CALLED AND THOROUGHLY INSPECTED WHAT WE WANTED TO HAVE DONE AND PROVIDED A DETAILED ESTIMATE. HE WAS VERY POLITE AND KNOWLEDGEABLE OF PAINTING SO WE DECIDED TO HIRE HIM AND WE'RE SO GLAD WE DID. HE MATCHED THE PAINT COLOR AND SCHEDULED THE WORK TO BEGIN A WEEK LATER. THE DAY BEFORE WORK WAS TO BEGIN HE POWERWASHED OUR ENTIRE HOUSE TO PREPARE IT FOR PAINT. HIS CREW OF 3 PAINTERS SPENT TWO 10-HOUR DAYS PAINTING OUR HOUSE AND THEY WERE VERY CAREFUL TO COVER THE SURROUNDING SHRUBS AND FLOWERS. WE'RE THRILLED WITH THE RESULTS. WE ALLOWED HIM TO PUT A SIGN IN OUR YARD ADVERTISING HIS COMPANY AND NOTICED THAT 3 OTHER HOUSES ON OUR STREET HIRED HIM OVER THE NEXT FEW WEEKS. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND STUDENT PAINTERS.

PAINTER ALSO PURCHASED THE WRONG COLOR, I JUST WANTED A SAMPLE AND THE PAINTER WENT AND PURCHASED ALL THE PAINT AS OPPOSED TO JUST A SAMPLE.

THE FIRST ESTIMATE WAS GIVEN IN MARCH, TO PAINT TRIM OF OUR BRICK HOME. AT THAT TIME WE WERE TOLD THEY WOULD NOT BE BACK UNTIL JUNE, AFTER SCHOOL ENDED. WHEN THEY CAME BACK IN JUNE, THEY POWER WASHED OUR TRIM, DID A TEST STRIP WHICH WE CHANGED OUR MIND ABOUT THE COLOR, NO PROBLEM. WE ALSO DECIDED TO HAVE THEM POWER WASH OUR DECK, SEAL AND STAIN. THEY DID ALL THE PAINTING AND STAINING IN ONE DAY. PAUL CARTER IS WHO WE DEALT WITH. HE WAS VERY DEPENDABLE AND ALWAYS SHOWED UP ON TIME. HE HAD A CREW OF 3 STUDENTS FOR PART OF THE DAY, THEN ANOTHER CREW OF 3 MORE FOR THE REST OF THE DAY. HE WOULD NOT LET THE LAST CREW LEAVE UNTIL WE WALKED AROUND THE HOUSE WITH HIM TO BE SURE EVERYTHING WAS OK. THIS ORGANIZATION IS BASED OUT OF MICHIGAN, BUT HAS OSU STUDENTS AS EMPLOYEES. PLUS THE BRANCH MANAGER, PAUL CARTER, WAS ALSO AN OSU STUDENT. I UNDERSTAND THERE ARE DIFFERENT STUDENT PAINTER ORGANIZATIONS, BUT WE RECOMMEND THIS ONE. WE KEPT ADDING JOBS FOR THEM TO DO AND THEY NEVER HESITATE
