Called and left a message explaining that I needed a bid to have a garage and some trim painted. Got a return phone call appx 1 week after I left my message. They stated that they would have some time 2-3 MONTHS from now. This does not appear to be a legitimate business from my conversation with them.
Description of Work: Returned a phone call a week later.

Beginning August 1st I tried repeatedly to reach my contact because I had not heard from him in months. He did not answer his phone and his voice mailbox was full. I eventually called the national number and asked for them to have him call me. After a week of still not hearing from him I again called the national number and asked them to have him call my cell number. This time my contact did phone but he called my home number and left a message for me to call him back. Again I tried and tried but he never answered. I had to again phone the national number but this time I asked to talk to his supervisor. I explained about the difficulty I was having reaching him and the fact that I knew school was soon to start. The supervisor promised to find out what was going on and to phone me back personally by noon the following day. He also said that they would do all they could to do my work and that if they were unable to do so they would help me find another local painter. Noon the following day came and went. I never heard back from the supervisor. My original contact did phone me late in the day (a Friday) and told me that that was the last day that they were working so they wouldn't be able to do my job. He said he would talk to National about returning my down payment. So after waiting three months they told me their last day of work that they would not be doing my job. Now I'm stuck having already purchased the paint and not able to get another local painter (the others I trust are all booked). As a professor I chose Student Painters to help out hard working students but unfortunately I just feel burned.
Description of Work: May 4, 2013 I signed the contract and gave the down payment to have my exterior painted. I had already purchased the paint so I was only paying for labor. I was told they would do the work in mid-July.

This is the West Lafayette-based crew. When power washing the deck, they used too much pressure and went over same areas too many times, resulting in 1/4" deep gouges in the deck railing. They tried to fix it with huge amounts of wood putty, but the railings still look terrible and I will probably have to replace them. The crew was very messy - they left equipment and personal belongings on the deck overnight; they got trim paint on the garage door and did not clean it up; they spilled paint in the driveway and hosed it off, resulting in grey pools at the curb; there are numerous puddles of grey paint throughout the yard, including by the back fence and shed where they did not do any work. The grey trim paint that Sherwin Williams was supposed to match to an existing sample I took in did not match at all - much darker and bluer than existing trim. A job that could have been completed in 3 days if the crew had shown up when originally scheduled took over 2 weeks. I will not hire them again and do not recommend them, even though each crew member was polite and seemed nice.

I was very happy with Student Painters and plan to use them again. I received a return call the same day that I called and John came over to give me the estimate the next day. He was professional, cordial and not at all pushy or "salesman-ish", which I never like. The date for the work was scheduled for a few days later and was completed as scheduled. The majority of the work was completed by Eric who was very friendly , respectful and professional and then John came back later to help finish up. It was very easy & straightforward and they did great work with no mess left behind. Great experience!

It was awful .A bunch of untrained kids completly ruined the look of my beautiful log home. On a hot 100 degree day they started by quickly going around the house applying a tinted polyurethane with long extended rollers. By the time they tried to brush in on it had dried in long running streaks. After talking to several professionals about the problem I had to settle for painting the house with a solid color stain. It looks OK but it is not the way a well maintained log home should look. A year later I'm still cleaning up and fixing the mess they made.

The sales pitch was made and accepted. The start of work date was established. The only remaining concern was who would show-up to do the work? Would they be carefree or dedicated? The answer was dedicated and punctual. The team, lead by Patrick Gardiner, Branch Manager, was in our view a hard working and courteous group. They arrived on time and worked right through to the end of each day. They seemed to be driven by the desire to do a good job. They are called student painters which may implies that they are learning but, in the long run they have something to teach American workers and America’s competitors about work ethics, teamwork, and commitment. Would we recommend the Student Painters organization? A resounding, Yes! Would we consider using Student Painters organization in the future? Definitely! Some trepidation in the beginning but, great comfort in knowing that we made the right decision with the selection of Patrick Gardiner as the one to lead a team of student painters towards the successful completion of the painting of the exterior of our home.
Description of Work: Power washing the exterior of house but, because of the excessive chalking the entire house required hand washing (no extra charge) to remove the chalking. This was followed by one coat of 100% acrylic paint with a contrasting color on the trim.

all went ok in the end. Had to go behind the Student painters and show them where thay missed culking places and missed painting places several times I tryed to stress always check your work after you are done. Not sure that got through to them, If you are going to hire this company be patiant do not expect steller preformance, thay are who they are but do expext and demand the job be done well. Daniel the manager in charge did walk through with me several times and made sure I was happy with the job all turned out well in the end. If you are looking for high end work I would not recomend Student Painters thay did a good job in the end.

The marketing person who showed up and rang out door bell was very professional and courteous. He called back when my husband was back and showed up on time to discuss costs with us. However they showed up late to powerwash and I was not entirely sure of how much power washing they did since it was done while I was away and they used my hose to do it and did not put it back from where they took it. They showed up on time to paint after a day or two delay with weather and actually came even when it was raining to paint form the inside. They were professional and courteous, but only after they said they were done, I realized they had not caulked any of the windows as per the contract and had left out a couple of windows and had done a patchy job in a couple of other windows. I called the manager and asked for my check back (which he returned promptly) and when I pointed out the defects, he came back on both Saturday and Sunday and completed the job on his own to my satisfaction, which I appreciated. I would recommend that you be strict with your requirements and check the progress of the work periodically as it is being done, since the quality depends on which students are working on your property. The concept is good and it was because I was supportive of their efforts to fund their college education that we agreed to have them do the job. But I suspect that a professional crew would have done a better job.

Very disappointing. I would not rehire or recommend them. Their price was competitive with professional painters, but the work quality was not there. This was in the 28269 area of Charlotte NC. The painters lacked a lead person with Painters's knowledge and overall Painter's skills. It appeared as if they were all learning on the job. My husband had to instruct them on caulking, painting missed areas etc. reminding them to paint the front door and garage utility door etc. There was a major disappointment when they were almost finished the job and the the 2-car attached garage door had not been painted. I was informed by the lead painter that they do not paint Aluminum garage doors. This door had been previously painted and really needed painting. He told me the charge would be an additional $100. to paint the garage door. When I disagreed, he finally decided to give me a credit of $38.00 for the paint. The contract listed doors as items to be included. No discussion or indication was made that the garage door was excluded from the contract We will have to paint the garage door OURSELVES, after spending $2450.00 for the paint job of a 2400 sq ft ranch with a brick front. These young men did not seem to understand that paint is for preservation as well as appearance. Luckily, my husband was available to supervise this job, therefore we did get a decent paint job. If you have time and expertise to micromanage, you will get a decent paint job. The young men were all very courteous, friendly and hard working, but, they lack skills. They are supposedly trained by Sherwin Williams and do use Sherwin WIlliams paint. They spent 6-7 days doing the work. The painters came to my home approx 3 weeks ago requesting work. I like the idea of helping students who are helping themselves. I checked the better business bureau and they did not have any current info on the company. I made the mistake of not checking Angie's list until later.

The Sherwin Williams company send these students to a school to teach them how to paint. So they know what they are doing. All college people. They have been very cordial and nice. They have gave recommendations. They walked around the house with me and explained what I should do to make sure that we follow the right steps to make our home look best.

Prep and scraping were minimal at best and they proceeded to stand on ladder with an extension pole. Paint is super thin where there is bare wood. You have to paint trim with a thick brush to get enough paint to fill cracks and imperfections, and they said that's the way they were taught. The trim is an ogee board which is very hard to paint with a small roller and standing on a ladder six foot away with an extension pole. When they were done I asked if they got behind the fascia board the one to two inches that is exposed below the soffit. They said no, because they didn't think that was part of the deal because you couldn't see it was their reasoning. Although you could see the paint peeling off the back of the fascia. The bid specifies that the fascia was to be painted, it doesn't say half the fascia. My point being don't waste your money, hire real painters!

Although I gave them a follow up date for decision, they called 4 times prior to that date. I took their # and told them I would call when I had all the bids in if they were in the running.. They were not.
Description of Work: These folks approached me when I was working on my front lawn. None the Quoted Price was the highest of all bids. Also, although they made a big deal about their customer service, when I questioned them on how that could be true in that the business card indicated this ia a UT. corporation or frachise. The came up with an increduluous incoherent and impossible answer about sendinging someone from Michigan or Utah because they were indeed going back to school. They also used used car salesmen prsure tactics. Total Lack OF Control over customer service and accountability. Therefore a worthless guarantee on workmanship. Caviet Emptor!

We were overall very pleased with our experience. Recently purchased a house in North Charleston that needed a little TLC. Student painters gave us the lowest price to repaint the trim boards on the outside of the house. They arrived on the scheduled day and time and seemed to do a careful job. With the exception of some corner areas, the trim boards turned out great! We will call them again if another paint job is needed for our home.

They were painting our deck in the rain, before I told them to stop. They missed portions of the house, and there are areas where the paint is already peeling off. They warranty their work for a a year, but when I called within a year for them to come back out to repaint areas they missed they never came. It was a terrible paint job overall!!!

If you hire Student Painters I suspect it will be hit or miss on their quality and experience. When they were done, there were several areas on the iron railings that were painted without proper prep work. They simply painted over some bubbled up rust spots, with no scraping nor sand paper prep. On the railing areas that were easily visible and easily accessible, they did a decent job. A few railing spots were completely missed and left unpainted. Then there was the entire lower underside of the railing, left totally untouched. Also, my neighbor told me that some railing painting was done during a light rain! There was a bait and switch that occurred. The contract clearly stated for the concrete floors to have a two part epoxy applied. The painters showed up with latex floor paint. The rep stated that he "made a mistake and didn't know why he wrote down two part epoxy", because "a good latex floor paint was more suitable". After some research, they would have been unable to apply an epoxy paint anyway as it would require stripping the old paint off to bare concrete. They were not prepared to do that level of work, so I agree to latex on the floors. When the rep came by expecting full payment, I showed him all the problems with their work. He agreed and told me that they would be back to correct things. A few days later, one painter came to chemically treat the rust on the missed underside of the railings. A day needed to pass for the chemical to work. Then a week passed and I realized that I would be better off finishing the work myself, rather than have another round of their shoddy work. The rep lowered the price to an agreed amount and supplied me with paint for me to finish the job. The resolution was reasonably fair, but the headaches were not worth hiring them. I would have been better off hiring painters with more experience, or even a good handyman, and pay more.
Description of Work: I hired Student Painters to paint the front and rear porches. This involved painting the ceilings, concrete floors, and iron railings. The iron railings were rusted and required treatment with a rust converting chemical. The concrete floors got two coats of paint and all else got one coat.
