"If I could give less than one star I would. Hired Alvie to replace a porch and install some new exterior doors. He bid the job, took the 50% deposit and I chased him for weeks to start. Didn’t purchase supplies he quoted and I paid for. Rarely showed up when he said he would. Tons of excuses. Asked for gas money to come work on my job Then wanted more money before job was completed. The work done was not as agreed or quoted. Finally ended up firing him. Have to hire someone else to finish work"

"Two men came in a truck at 4:00 pm. One climbed a ladder to the roof. He came back down, went to the truck to fill out the proposal. He came into the house with a handwritten proposal stating: "Patch cement chimney to save money and prevent a full rebuild. Seal all of the cracks in the crown. Waterproof entire chimney top to bottom. Chimney is in really bad shape. The bricks are deteriorating. I suggested doing all of the work to prevent needing a rebuild to save money and this will make it so no more water will be getting in their chimney anymore." The total price on the proposal was $6400 or $6000 if paid same day. He said they have a company who could finance it for us. My husband and I, unfortunately, decided to pay the $6000 with our check. I told them I want a legible copy of the handwritten proposal and pictures of the work they do. They assured us we could get all that by contacting their office. The two men took buckets from the truck and took them up on the roof. They came back down and washed their hands in our kitchen sink. By now it was getting dark and starting to rain. It must have been around 5:30 when they left the house. One man came back and asked to use the bathroom. I showed him the one in the basement. He came back up and they left. The following day I sent them a request for a legible bill and pictures. I received no reply."

Throughout my 40 years of home ownership, my projects have including installing sprinklers, pool heater, outdoor landscaping including multiple decks, basement refinishing and fixing just about every home appliance you can think of. There is a right way to do things and it’s based upon pride of workmanship. I will not take on something that I am not confident of completing and doing so correctly. As I approach retirement, I believe I can use my experience to provide a quality service and give me the opportunity to do what I’ve always enjoyed- spending time in the workshop :)
