Description of Work: Replaced a door (added a storm door), window over the sink. Took out old plywood subfloor--it had become wet & showed signs of rot--put in new subfloor and new laminate in the entryway. I think the work could have been done for less but I'm not sure it would have been done as well or with the same quality of materials and workmanship.

Pulled Rocky's name from Angie's list after 3 earlier quotes were unsatisfactory. Checked him out by extensive surfing, BBB, etc. Prompt, professional, and knowledgeable assessment. Was able to identify a good solution to replacing several very large sliders that other contractors could not. Rocky suggested slightly downsizing the openings with molding and using a manufacturer with large custom sizes (Marvin Infinity), whereas other contractors wanted to either do drywall modification, or install 2 sliders side by side in one opening. He was able to match exterior paint with a factory window color (ok, lucky), and the caulking also was right on. His brother Rodney and another guy did the installation. Polite, no fooling around, hard working throughout the day, moved furniture out of the way, no mess at the end. I was meticulous doing the background research on both the contractors and brands of replacement windows. I strongly recommend Rocky for doing window replacement - I am very pleased with the results here. Am considering asking Rocky to do an addition on my home as well, no higher praise comes to mind.
Description of Work: Rocky Bond replaced multiple large slider and casement windows (15 total) in a 2300 sq ft ranch in Farmington Hills. He recommended Marvin Infinity fiberglass replacements, and I researched them carefully on Consumer Reports and construction blogs, settled on them for strength, quality. Their glass is much thicker than other brands. Got tempered glass in lower sashes because of kids in the house. Other contractors bid $22,000 and $23,000 for Anderson and another aluminum-clad wood brand. Got one bid for vinyl at $11,000 and decided to pass on that.

I actually called them to see if they could recommend someone local to me since I did not think they would come all the way out to my house. Not only did they come out but Rocky was able to accommodate our crazy schedule! NOT an easy feat. He gave us all the options without being a pushy salesman. We chose Marvin Infinity fiberglass replacement windows for the house windows, glass block for the basement windows, and two budget windows for the garage. His crew was punctual (actually they were EARLY every day) and they were very nice. I told them that one of my dogs had an issue with loud noises and they were very careful to make sure he was secure each time before they used anything loud. They worked non-stop. There was a different crew for the glass block windows. When we placed the order we thought the glass block installers were going to be part of Active One. We were a little disappointed to find out they were contracted out, we have many local glass block options that may have been cheaper. But we were happy how they turned out. Our windows were not easy to replace. They were original to when the house was built and they have marble slabs. The crew was very careful and did not break or crack any of them! It was not easy. They really did a great job. We had never had windows replaced before so were not familiar with the whole process. We assumed they would clean the windows when they were done. Apparently this is NOT part of the installation. In our case this was a problem. A MAJOR problem. The windows came from the factory with all kinds of clear gunk all over them. It literally took us 8 hours to clean eleven windows. During the process we found two of the windows came scratched (not Active One's fault) and two had small defects. We called Rocky and he ordered replacement windows right away for us. I also emailed Marvin Infinity to let them know how disgusted we were with the cosmetics of their windows (that is a whole other story!). My husband spoke to Rocky about the replacement windows and he told my husband he would make sure they came to us clean and defect free. I don't think this got passed on because the windows did not come to us clean. Fortunately they were not as hard to clean BUT one of the replacements did have a very small scratch. I might have overlooked it if this had not been a do-over AND if it was some other window. But it was the kitchen window over the sink and the one window I look at most! I REALLY did not want to be that annoying picky customer. But $12,000 is a great deal of money to us and I expect perfection when I spend that much. So, yet another window was ordered for the kitchen. That window was replaced this past weekend, hence my delay in posting my review. Overall, I was very pleased with Active One. The problems we had were related to the manufacturer and unfortunately Active One got stuck in the middle. They were professional and I would use them again, but I am not sure they would want me as a customer again :-)

The first time they came out they found that they had measured the windows wrong and so they had to send them back and re-order. They were AMAZING and compensated me for my inconvenience. When they came out the second time they were very prompt and worked quickly. Their workmanship was excellent and they left the place spotless when they left. I would very highly recommend them and would not hesitate to call them again.

We have a bay window in our master bedroom and the glass had slipped out of the frame of the large window. These were the original windows in the house (built in 1996) and this particular window had been repaired twice during our purchase negotiations. We felt the best option was to replace the window or windows. I had 3 vendors out to give quotes, including Rocky from Active One Construction. When I first called to request the quote I spoke to nice gentlemen who I explained are problem to and we discussed the Marvin window. Rocky was to come out on 9/5 to measure the window (s) and prepare a quote. Rocky showed up about 10 minutes late. He came in with Marvin window samples and literature and we discussed. We went upstairs and he measured the window and we discussed the different types (insert replacement vs full replacement). One of my concerns was the loss of light on the insert replacement and he told me that he could tell me how much light would be lost when he sent over the quotes. He also measured our casement windows in our living room and was supposed to include a quote for those, as eventually we will need to replace all the windows in the house. A month went by and I hadn't heard from him, so I followed up with him on 10/7 and his response was "The distance is just too far for one or two windows". WHAT.....they knew where I lived before they came out, they knew the situation of what I needed before they came out and then he measured the windows and tells me he will send me the quotes and additional information and then I never hear from him. If we lived too far away then this should have been told to me before he came out or at the very least tell me when he was here and not tell me that he will be sending me quotes and info. TERRIBLE customer service.

In all honesty we do business in Novi all the time. We had an appointment with Member at 4:30 on September 5, 2012. Rocky drove from Saline to arrive on time for the appointment; however, encountered traffic as M-14 is under construction. He drove as quickly as possible as he hates to be late for anything. It took him over an hour and a half to arrive. He was 10 minutes late unfortunately. Upon arrival, he gathered his samples and rushed to meet Member. Upon seeing him she “chewed” him out for being 10 minutes late and then proceeded to tell him she needed two windows. As not to be rude, Rocky continued with the appointment. He had all intentions of bidding her two windows; however, after being treated as such by the homeowner, she was not getting top priority. We received an email on 10/7 from Member wondering if/when she would receive her quote as she needed to make a decision. Rocky did respond as she stated, since he really was not going to put her bid before others and he was not going to accommodate someone that was rude to him. We KNEW that Member would do whatever she could to be rude and give us bad reviews. She probably spent the whole day on the internet doing so. As business owners, you run in to customers that are rude and ones you are not able to please no matter what you do. Sometimes it is best to walk away. Rocky attempted to do so without actually telling her the real reason as not in turn to be mean. However, our reputation is on the line, we have been in business for over 23 years, with thousands of satisfied customers and with great reviews; therefore, in this case, a truthful response was necessary. Member has bids from other companies for her two windows; we wish her the best and hope that she signed with them and will be satisfied with the installation, as Marvin Windows are one of the top window brands on the market.

They quoted about $6000 for the work. I decided to contact this company because they are in my town. The owner came himself, and he was very friendly. It took him over a week to get back to him with the price. In fact, I had to drive down to his office to get it because he never called me back. I would tell others that if they are only getting one door, they are not really interested. He quoted me such a high ridiculous price that is why I left. I can't blame him, who wants to be bothered so. It would have been ridiculously nice, if they had told me up front rather than me waiting and wasting my time.

The specification process was very easy. Rocky (the owner) appeared, exactly on time, for the initial consultation and measurement of the windows a couple of days after my phone call. A few days later he called with an estimate and, when that proved to be outside our budget, called back the next day with an acceptable alternative. We visited his showroom, picked the colors, and signed the contract. He estimated installation in the second week of November. The actual installation was November 12 - 13. Rocky is great to work with and responsive to his customers. The actual installation process went just as smoothly. Rodney (Rocky's brother) led a two man installation team that arrived promptly at 8AM each of the two days required and worked each day straight through to completion. Their workmanship was excellent : the exterior moldings look like they are original to the house; the caulking was faultless; and they cleaned their work areas perfectly. They performed the work during a day of very high winds without complaint.

The installation went well and we are happy with the fiberglass product. Extra work was done to ensure proper fit for a window frame with a curved top. Replacement of interior molding was done well, although there were a couple of details less than perfect: no match was found for existing corner molding (for which a similar look was substituted) and one glue-on vertical strip between adjoining frames was cut too long and bulges. We aked the firm to bid on a larger project in 2011, involving siding relacement and more new windows. We went with another firm based on price, but would have been happy to re-employ Active.

I first met Rocky (the owner) because of problems I was having with our windows after we bought our new house. Pella claimed that they had been improperly installed, which was why we were having problems shutting them. Through some investigative work on the internet, I found out that Active One had installed the windows. I called them up, Rocky came over, and assured me that they had been installed properly after taking some measurements, etc. I called Pella again, they sent someone over, and sure enough, they had indeed been properly installed. It turned out that they had never been painted around the exterior, so they swelled when they got wet. Lesson: do not leave exposed wood around your window frames... At any rate, Rocky did not charge me for the visit, which really impressed me (his wife had said there would be a $75 service call charge, which he generously waived). Impressed me so much that I had him back to have him install a new front door. I believe it was his brother who did it: very professional and courteous, fair price, looks great, and have had no problems since (it's been about two years). When I needed a receipt to get the energy tax break, he sent it out within a day. Very professional and trustworthy company: highly recommended!

They were a little bit tardy on the delivery of our custom windows.

The casement windows were exceptionally heavy and took three installers to get them in place. Old rotting or heavily weathered wood windows were replaced with Aluminum Clad Marvin wood windows on the ground and second floors. View out windows in the basement were replaced with fiberglass Marvin gliding windows. The old windows and trim molding were removed and other debris was cleaned up on a daily basis. Rocky, the owner of Active One, was knowledgeable and available if I had any questions. I received three bids and all were within 10% of each other. Although Active One was not the lowest bidder I had more confidence in Rocky's ability to order the correct materials and get the job done.
Description of Work: All windows, double and triple casement-double hung-picture-gliding, in my house were replaced with Marvin Windows except for three sliding glass doors. The ordering process took almost three months and installation by three installers about four days.

After talking to several builders, Active One was the only builder who started with our budget and built a plan around it. We chose Active One because their quote matched what we could spend and they promised to keep it that way (which they did!). We signed a contract, set up a starting date, and waited for our windows to arrive. About 4 weeks later, installation began. Rocky's crew has been working with him for a long time, and they work very well together. The windows went in first. The old windows were in bad shape, and had been hung out-of-level. Rocky's brother Randy was in charge of installation of the new windows. He and his crew arrived on time, worked very hard all day long, and cleaned up at the end of each day. They made sure each window fit correctly before they went on to the next. The sliding patio door turned into a challenge, as our old door had leaked into the floor and it had started to rot. Randy cut out all of the bad wood, reinforced the door frame, and took great effort to make sure the new door would not leak. When they were done with the windows, the job was perfect. This winter the windows really proved themselves. Our house was warmer, the heating bill was at least 10% less, and there were no drafts. The siding went on next. When I first placed my order with Rocky, I said I wanted the exterior to be completely maintenance free. The crew was very careful to make sure that was true. They spent a great deal of time carefully fitting pieces of siding to every little corner and turn. When they came to the chimney, which had been loosing pieces of aluminum siding for several years, they rebuilt several sections of the wooden frame so the siding would attach firmly. When they were done, the home looked great. And after a cold, windy winter nothing has come loose or started to look bad. Rocky also helped us pick vinyl trim that went well with our house. We had specific ideas of our own, which he either found a match for or suggested an alternative solution that looked even better. For example, we had wooden dental moulding around the roof line, which had begun to fall off. There was no affordable match in vinyl, but Rocky suggested we move the dental to roof over our porch, which looked good and was affordable. He also helped us pick out trim to go over the top of each window. When the siding was installed, he also included trim around each exterior electrical outlet and hose spigot. It gave it a very professional appearance. The next step was the new front door. Again, a terrific job. My wife and I had looked at doors at lumberyards, but Rocky had several suppliers he recommended, and the prices were very good. The new front door finishes off the house nicely. We have no complaints about this company. I would recommend them to everyone.
Description of Work: Rocky Bond and his crew replaced all of the aluminum siding on our house with new vinyl siding. They replaced all 23 of the old windows in our house with fiberglass replacement windows. They replaced the steel front door and sidelights with fiberglass ones. They replaced the wood swinging patio door with a fiberglass sliding door.

A couple months ago I added insulation to my house. Next, I wanted to add to the insulation by replacing inefficient window sashes with insulated ones (Insulating Low E II with Argon). I had to clear space in front of the windows inside the house and remove obstacles outside (thermometer, hose, et al.). On Oct. 16, the 2-man crew arrived shortly after 8:00 am and finished by mid-afternoon. They worked on one window at a time, one man inside and one outside. They cleaned up after themselves. Although they intended to dispose of the old sashes, I wanted to keep them to donate to our local Re-Use Center.
Description of Work: Except for the bathroom, they replaced all the window sashes on the first floor of my home with Marvin Infinity double-hung sashes, leaving the original frames intact.

I was actually pretty impressed with Active One. They were pretty good, I thought. The installer was great. The one guy who runs it manages it all and his brother actually does all the work. As far as their personality, I do not think they were trying to snood me or anything. They seemed to be very professional. The windows I had installed were better quality than your average home improvement store windows. Also, I thought the price was rather fair.
