we hired Jay to do our kitchen last year. we had complained that our drawers didn't shut smoothly. he told us he'd fix it, and to just go ahead a put our counter top on. turns out he never came back, we had to have our granite counter top removed and another contractor come out to fix it. also, our drawer front got all scratched up and we had to replace those, too. he did sneak up to our front porch while we were home and slip a check for $300 in our mail box--instead of manning up and speaking to us in person. his excuse was that he was too embarrassed to talk to us. it's been a year since our kitchen was finished. we can now see that where the cabinets meet, there is a gap. He is the most unprofessional person I have ever come across. he is not bonded or insured. he would come in to work and complain about not getting other jobs (he should have been more concerned with the tack at hand!) He asked us several times at the beginning of our project to go on Angie's list to write a positive review. DO NOT HIRE THIS GUY! IF YOU DO INSIST HE BECOMES BONDED AND INSURED. OK....YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Horrible. I chose them based on Angie's list but the follow through on just the quote was p*** poor. I would never try to use them again. I went with another contractor and am very happy with their responsiveness and work.
Description of Work: Nothing. Jay Delsi came out and measured and then was supposed to get back to me with a quote. I contacted him 3 times to get the quote from them but I never got it. There was no response to my last request so I have gotten a different builder.
Working with Jay and his team was an absolute pleasure. We spent three months working with him on a complete renovation of our home and were extremely impressed with his professionalism and the quality of his work. When we initially contacted Delisi Construction, Jay answered the phone himself and was very quick to meet with us and provide us with a quote. His quote was very fair and competitive to quotes we received from other contractors. We chose Jay over the other contractors we interviewed because we felt he was really listening to what we wanted to accomplish, while offering professional and constructive advice how to make it happen. We also appreciated that he did not ?nickel and dime? us when additional issues arose. For small things, he would just include it in the cost we were already quoted. For larger issues (for example, when we decided to replace all the carpet or when we decided to build a new kitchen pantry), he was very transparent about the costs associated with the change and quickly provided us with a reasonable quote for the additional costs. Most importantly, the work that Jay and his team did was phenomenal. Jay himself is an excellent craftsman, and he also has a great team of employees and sub-contractors that he works with. For example, we wanted to install hardwood floors in the kitchen and family room. All other rooms on the main floor had hardwood floors already so we were concerned that the new hardwood floors would not blend in well with the existing ones. However, Jay installed the new floors in a way that they blend seamlessly with the existing hardwood floors. Another example of his work was with our kitchen remodel. The existing pantry was too small for a home this size and the kitchen design did not allow room for the new appliances that we wanted to purchase. Specifically, we wanted to get rid of the built-in oven so we could purchase a professional quality range. Jay redesigned the entire kitchen so we could install the appliances that we wanted and while doing so created a design that allowed us to more than double the size of the pantry. Overall, we highly recommend Delisi Construction for any home remodeling!
Description of Work: Complete renovation of 3400 square foot home including remodeling kitchen (e.g., gutting kitchen, replacing tile with hardwood floors, expanding pantry, replacing backsplash with subway tile), installing molding in office, replacing all baseboards and window / door casings, creating archway between kitchen and family room, laying hardwood floors in kitchen and family room, removing and installing new carpet, disassembling and removing built-in cabinets, installing new fixtures and hardware in all bathrooms, removing and installing all new light fixtures, repairing deck, removing wallpaper, updating powder room.

Have not hired Jay, have no prices on any of the work I wanted quotes on. Perhaps I should try another?
Description of Work: Called Jay and he was prompt in setting up a meeting. But has not gotten back with me about any prices and referred a dry wall guy, because he said he did not do drywall. I called the number he gave me and got no reply even when i left a message. Met with Jay on Friday and have not heard anything to date( Wednesday the following week). I dont know what to make of this after his great reviews on your website.

I left a message on Delisi Constr. telephone asking for an on site quote. He replied and made an appointment for May 21 @ 6:30. On that day he called me & rescheduled because he had to go to his daughter's baseball game. He came out a couple of days later, checked out the job and gave me a ballpark estimate. Later that week he sent an undetailed email quote along with some pictures of other bathroom remodels. I followed up with an email saying I would like him to be our contractor, lets get together and work out the details. He wanted to get together the last week in June but I was going on vacation, so I sent him an email with all the fixtures and other accessories I wanted so he could order any long lead items. He told me he wanted to start the job July 10. July 10 came and went. He called a week later & said he could start July 30th, perhaps July 23. July 23 came and went. July 30 came and went. The first week of August I get a phone call from Mr. Delisi saying that the August 27 start date he gave could possibly be moved up to August 13. What???? I explained our start date was July 10, then July 23, then July 30. He told me he had some delays. I said okay to August 13 start date. August 10 Mr. Delisi called and said a dumpster would be put in my driveway on August 12 and he would see me at 8:00 am Aug. 13. The dumpster did not arrive on Sunday. Monday morning at 7:30 Mr. Delisi called and said he and the dumpster would be at my house by noon. The dumpster came at 9:30. Mr. Delisi called at noon and said some of his workers had to go home and he would be at my house at 3:00. At 3:00 I called Mr. Delisi and he assured me he would be at my house at 4:00. I told him to remove his dumpster from my driveway. I don't understand why Mr. Delisi repeatedly put me off. I did not pressure him. He always called me to schedule appointments. I spent my whole summer waiting for this guy to start my job. This company has no store front to pick fixtures and tile from. A deposit of 50% is required to start the job when you sign contracts & then he buys your stuff with that money. Demolition starts the day you sign contracts, so he doesn't have your supplies when he starts. Mr Delisi told me the job would take 7-10 days. With all the false promises and out of town company coming in on Aug. 30 I could not afford to have my home torn up by Mr Delisi. I would not recommend this company to anyone unless you don't care when he starts or finishes. I'm so disappointed in him, and now I have to start all over with another contractor. Mr Delisi never came back to my home to pick up his tile samples either.
Description of Work: Services to be performed were a complete bathroom remodel. Strip down bathroom to studs and repair damaged wood, replace drywall, new ceramic tile in tub area and floor, install new fixtures.

Response from Delisi Construction & Remodeling
I am truly sorry to hear of a disappointed customer. Commitment and loyalty are a priority for Delisi Construction. Because of this, I was unable to leave the project that I was working on at the time until it was completed to my customer's satisfaction. The same would have been true for the Member's project. Due to some unforseen complications on my current job, I did have to delay the start date of the Member Project. However, I was in constant communication with Member about the status of her job. She never indicated that delaying the start was an issue and I always felt that we were in agreement about the plans. Delisi Construction prides themselves on following through on their promises and keeping their customers "in the loop" and we are again sorry to hear that Member was disappointed. -Jay Delisi

Jay was pleasant and friendly, and knowledgeable about the job. He gave me a bid within a few days and completed the work within a few weeks. He came when he said he would and stayed through until the job was completed. The price was competitive. When he and his assistant finished the job, they cleaned the yard so well that I would never have known that they had been there.I would absolutely recommend Jay and would definitely hire him again.

I contacted Delisi by phone in late May. I spoke to Jason about the job I wanted to have done. He said he would be there the next day to look at my house. He did not show up. I called him the day after that and he said he was not clear on the date and would be over the next day. He did come that time and described the job as "a big project." he said that he wanted to bring a mason over to confer on what should be done. This was the Thursday (May 24) before Memorial Day weekend. After a week went by I called Jason again(May 31). He said he would "get right on it." I have not heard from him since I made that call. It has been a week and a half (June 12)and there has been no communication from the company. I understand that people need time with their families. I understand that this is not the biggest job they may have to do. I understand that this is a busy time in the construction/remodeling business. I wanted to engage a local firm in my hometown to do this work and they are ignoring me. This is my first experience with Angie's List and it has not been a good result. Jason told me the one time I saw him that most of Delisi Construction's work comes from Angie's List referrals. They get good reviews on the site for the work they have completed. But I can't get them to even come out to do a proper estimate. If they don't want the job I would just like them to tell me. Their conduct is inconsiderate at best and is not a proper way to conduct business.
Description of Work: There were no services performed. I had removed interior drywall and discovered rotted wood studs, joist and floor that needed to be replaced. Brickwork would have to be removed to replace the joist and studs, then replaced.

We left town in late October and turned our house over to Jay Delisi for him to complete the remodeling we had contracted for. We told him that there was no rush and he could take his time and complete the job anytime between November 2011 to March 2012. We hoped this would offer him some flexibility in scheduling subs etc. so the time factor was not that important to us as long as it was completed on time. This being said though Jay was on time and on site to insure the job was done on time and correctly. During this time Jay had complete access to our house and the alarm codes etc. As we stated in the scope of work, we needed to make sure that the contractor was honest and trustworthy and Jay more than lived up to that. He has a lot of integrity and goes the extra mile to insure things are done correctly. The bottom line is that Jay is better than his subs. What is meant by that is that Jay has an eye for detail and knows how things are to be done correctly. If there is something that Jay does not know specifically he takes the time to find out the answer. And as the General Contractor Jay makes sure things get done the right way and if they are not done right he gets them done right and stays on top of the subs until they get done right. For example Jay had to use three different tape and spacklers to get it right but he did at his cost and it got done right. We used marble panels in our showers and baths. At one point he broke a large marble panel on installation and he immediately called us to notify us of the problem. The panel was broken in a manner that it could have been epoxide back together and due to the graining and position of the crack it would probably never be noticed. Since we were away we'd have never known but Jay is not that kind of person. Being honest and forthright he wanted to let us know and he said he was going to pay for a new replacement panel which he did. During the dining room remodel he ran into unexpected issues on the floor and ceiling which required him to incur more cost that anticipated but he absorbed the costs to do the job correctly. Throughout the four months Jay kept us completely informed and up to date on the status of the work. He sent us email pictures and emails on the progress. If there were any questions as to how we wanted something done he would check with us before proceeding. We did make a few changes during the job and Jay always made them without issue or additional costs. There were no "change orders" necessary nor was there an issue of increased charges. All of the work was done at or above our expectations. The old saying is "you get what you pay for", but we believe that with Delisi Construction you get more than you pay for - you not only get a quality construction job but you have the peace of mind that you have an honest contractor that you can entrust your property to.
Description of Work: Purchased a mid 1950's house in August of 2011. We needed to remodel the main bathroom and add a master bathroom. In addition we wanted to expand the dining room, and add two master closets - so the remodel was extensive. Contacted four construction companies from Angie's List to give us an estimate on the work to be done. We were going to be away for the winter and wanted the work done while we were away so we needed to insure that the contractor would be qualified but trustworthy and honest, as well as one that would lookout and protect our property while we were away. We explained that the contractor could complete the job anytime from November of 2011 until we returned in April 2012, however we wanted it completely finished upon our return. The scope of work was to completely gut the main bath and remodel it which required moving a wall to enlarge it. The fixtures, marble and cabinets were to be supplied by us. We were also going to take our large master bedroom and walk in closet and add a master bath and remodel the walk-in closet. Again we were going to supply the fixtures. The showers, tubs and counter tops were to be marble, and the floors were to be tiled. These two jobs required moving walls and doors, tile work, flooring, electrical, heating work, painting and of course plumbing and carpentry. The third job was to enlarge our dining room by removing a wall expanding it by approximately 5 x 14 feet. This required matching and replacing the hardwood floors, drywall, electrical and wallboard tape and painting. Of the estimates Jay Delisi was not the highest or lowest bid on the job. He was in the middle. However what Delisi offered was an honest professional estimate and a desire to do the job right. One of our requirements since we would not be present was a contractor that could spot small issues and resolve them correctly, a contractor that could stay on top of the subs and do the job right. In addition we didn't want to have to haggle over small changes that we might make during the job. Jay's estimate was professionally prepared, thorough, knowledgeable and complete. In addition he had integrity and inspired us to trust him. At the time we contracted with Jay he had only been in his own business for a short while, though he had been in the construction industry for a while. After reviewing all estimates and the contractors my wife and I both felt very good about hiring Jay Delisi. We recommend that you have a face to face meeting with Jay after the bid process to go over exactly what you expect from him and what you want accomplished. It will also give you the confidence that Jay knows what is expected and will see the job through the right way. You should have a contract that spells out what you want done but with Jay you don't need to have it so detailed that it is unworkable. We have found in other construction jobs that those contractors who go to the extreme in the contract phase are really doing this to be able to charge for every little change you may make. Jay does not work like that. Though there is a contract that covers the scope of work Jay lets you know that it will be done right and it happens. He does not hit you for additional costs for minor changes that occur during the course of the job. If however you want certain products you need to let him know. All things are done to code but you may want upgrades. For example we added a hot water circulator loop and it was done to code but not with copper which I just thought it would be. So if you want that spell it out up front.
When I contacted the company initially, Jay himself answered the phone, kept his appointment time for the estimate and provided the quote and details promptly. He was easy to work with, always open to questions, and wanted our input into what we envisioned for the project, but also always provided us with helpful suggestions based on his experience. In fact, I was amazed at the little details that he would mention and go out of his way to bring to our attention to make sure that the final project would be the best it could be. In particular the bookcase he built for us was a challenge due to the piping behind it, but he designed and built it so that we would always be able to access the piping easily and indeed, made it look so nice that many who have seen it consider it to be a focal point of the room. Jay and his team were always on time and did what they said they would do. Most of the work done was very nice and we are very pleased with the final product, especially given the price we paid against other estimates we'd received for the same work.
Description of Work: Jay and his team finished our basement which included building the studs, installing drywall ceiling and walls, tiling two areas, demolishing one existing wall, building a new entrance way and pass through, ordering and installing accordion doors per our request, and custom building a new bookcase to cover an awkward area while still retaining access to the plumbing behind it. Jay also subcontracted with an electrician who installed recessed lighting and new electrical outlets as well as a new fuse box (which was needed). He also ordered and oversaw the carpet installation.

Mr. Delisi called me back immediately after I left him a message detailing what I was looking for. I described the project I had in mind and he said it would be no problem. He came to my home and we sat down at the kitchen table to discuss my ideas. I had photocopies from old 1960s design magazines that had photos of wooden boxes that I liked. I wanted him to make a blend of 3 different styles from the photographs. He said he could do this and described to me how it would work. I was very impressed. He sketched out how much wood he would have to buy and how many boxes I would get and I gave him the go ahead. He was quick and efficient and the finished product far exceeded my expectations. They are perfect! And so reasonably priced! And, Mr. Delisi was quick! I would highly highly recommend him for this type of work and other projects (he has quite a few photos on his website of his more sophisticated work). I took a stack of his business cards and will pass them along to all of my friends. I already have a few people interested in his work after seeing the boxes he made for me. I am very pleased.
Description of Work: I had Mr. Delisi make wooden "boxes" of all sizes (squares, rectangles) that I could stack in a geometric pattern in my living room and use for books and art objects.

This guy, Mr. Delisi, has just been terrific, we have no contracted with him. I asked for 3 references which he gladly gave. I called all 3 references and they all gave glowing remarks. I asked if they had anything negative to say and none of them had anything bad to say. We've contracted with him and we're waiting for the cabinetry to come in and he's going to do the whole job for us. When I called him and mentioned I was doing a a kitchen and half bath renovation, I ask him if he'd be interested in coming over and talking. It was a Friday afternoon, he said he had the afternoon off and could come over right then. Within a day and a half he got back to us with a complete quote that he followed up with in writing. He is scheduling starting so we have the least amount of down time. We have some additional upgrades and we've asked him to get back to us. He's done gutter guards for us, installing crown molding and when he comes out he gets right back to you with a price. He's also done a couple things on the roof, too. We've gone with everything he's offered. He's in his mid 30s and I want to pinch his cheeks.

I have a 17-yr. old large, painted cedar porch. The ends of the fifty-six 5/4 x 6 inch boards (away from the house) were rotting 2-4 inches. We had agreed that he replace just the rotting ones, but he did all fifty-six. The deck boards ran about twelve feet long and he cut off the ends from 1-4 feet & replaced them (staggered). He also replaced two 1x8 face boards and two 4x4 posts. All were cedar. He used galvanized screws and cauked the ends. He also cut out 6 inches from another two posts and inserted new 6-inch pieces at the bottom without cost, which was not covered in the contract. On this last item, he had to make a special trip to Lowe's store to get a twelve-inch blade to cut the posts. He & his helper worked hard all day and were very friendly.
Description of Work: Returned my phone call promptly. Showed up promptly and on time to look at the job and give us an estimate. I called him back and agreed to the price and agreed on a date for him to begin. He said the cedar deck repair would take 2-4 days. Amazingly he and a helper did the job in one day.

They did very good work. They were excellent. The price was also right. I would tell others that they were very professional, prompt and they knew their job. They tackled the job and did it. I spent $350 on that service. They came that same day and they said that they were in the area and if it was okay if he came by and took a look. That is always so nice because I know that they care. After telling me three times that he was or had sent out his estimate, he finally told me that he didn't feel he was capable of doing such a job. I was not happy that he kept me waiting so long, because when he came out, he was extremely positive and even explained what he had to do. So very frankly, I don't think he knows his business very well or just isn't reliable.

I am incredibly happy with Jay. He responded to my email for a quote the next day and was out to look at the project the day after that. He is VERY professional, personable and honest. His quote (which was much lower than a common business) was very fair and he was willing to work with my schedule. He came over for two afternoons to prep the house, take measurements, etc. AND, Jay pointed out some things I need to fix in the future, much to my dismay, which had nothing to do with the job I asked him to do but things he saw while taking measurements. The actual installation of the insulation took one and a half days. While doing the work he found out that the upper part of the house already had insulation so he let us know and reduced our final cost. Again, very honest. To look around the outside of my house one can not tell I even had work done; Jay cleaned up every single piece of debris...probably better than I would have. I also had him give me a quote for work in my basement and a custom cabinet. I cannot wait to work with him again. I am confident in his abilities and very comforted by his honesty.
Description of Work: Jay installed blown insulation into our existing 1942 walls. He removed a strip of siding, drilled holes into the house in between each stud, blew in the insulation, plugged the hole up and replaced the siding.
I heard about Delisi Construction from a friend. I've had issues with contractors not showing for appointments, so I was very happy to have Jason from Delisi Construction show up the same night that I called for an estimate. The house that I purchased was a basket case, and the longer I lived there, the more issues I found in need of attention (hence the long list of services above). No matter what type of work was needed, Delisi Construction was able complete it in short time and the end results were really clean. The first job was to replace all of the supply plumbing. The previous owner had done all of the plumbing on his own, and it leaked like crazy. Delisi replaced it all with copper, and it never had a problem again. Next, they replaced the original fuse box from 1927 with a circuit breaker panel. The next job was to tear out the dated master bathroom, move some walls out to make room for a tub, and then build the new bathroom from scratch. They tiled the floor and surround, installed a cast-iron tub, put in a new toilet, and installed the vanity. Turned out great. Next project was to redo the siding on the back half of the house and replace the old leaky windows with new vinyl windows. This looked good, and they completed it in 2 days. I was suprised how fast it went. Finally they tore out all of the old plaster on the upper level and refinished it with drywall. I was very happy with how much work I got for the money.
Description of Work: Delisi Construction helped with the rennovation of an old cape cod that I purchased. They replumbed the entire house. They changed the electrical service panel. They gutted and rebuilt a master bathroom. They also re-sided the house and replaced windows. Finally they gutted and refinished the enitre upper level.
