Modern Fence Co

The work went well. Aproximately 70 feet of 6 foot high privacy fence with one 4 x 6 feet gate. The work was completed in 2 days plus a callback to realign the matching gate with the fence and adjust the latch. The callback resulted in a bout one additional hour. All was covered in the contracted cost. When we had additional fencing installed we called them firs, but they were not taking residential work. This was during Covid.

Absolutely no communication or supervision of the "crew" - two guys for such a big job who never worked more than five hours. They were clueless and unsupervised-encroached more than a foot onto our neighbor's property. They hung three panels crookedly with huge gaps. They noticed the gap and nailed a board over it. Sections of the fence were hung 3-6 inches higher than previous sections. Our house is built on a hill and instead there was gradual decrease in height, they just slapped huge sections together running up the hill. Many neighbors had comments. No one from the company ever came to inspect the "completed" job. No one called when the crew didn't show up for work. We were told we were five weeks out and they started eight weeks later. We called them and let them know there were huge issues with the installation. No one could be bothered to come out until four days later. We hired a carpenter to fix the numerous problems.

In 2015, I called Modern Fence on behalf of myself and two of my neighbors who were considering having fences installed. Modern Fence came out and gave a quote, but we did not move forward with installing fences because, little did we know that one of the neighbors originally interested in getting a fence, was selling their home privately. Mid to late summer, the neighbor moved and new neighbors arrived. Now, its spring of 2016, our new neighbor desires a fence and so, I called Modern Fence Co again, to have them give a quote based on the new details and desires of each household (total of 3 homes). Modern Fence called me back and I was told that the estimator was not in and would need to call me back. He called me back a day or so later and said that he would need to check his schedule and call me to set something up for the following week. The following week came (two days ago) and I had not received a phone call back as they said they would. When I then called to follow-up with them, the agent on the phone, explained that the estimator would call me later. I explained that he said he was going to call me two days earlier but never did. I asked if the estimator was going to be able to make it out today as I had hoped for and expressed in my earlier conversations. He responded by saying that they were busy and that he can't see when the estimator will be able to make it out there. He did not offer an alternative solution/idea. At this response I got the sense that this company was not showing interest or taking initiative to serve my neighbors and I, the clients. I then said, "So, what you are saying is that you don't want our business?" To this he responded, "We've been out to make estimates last year, unfortunately, we won't be able to give a quote unless there would be another potential job/estimate needed in the general area." This caught me off guard and my suspicions were growing. I explained that we have a new neighbor, we would need a new quote and we have 3 separate properties to be serviced but he insisted that they WOULD NOT be able to give an estimate unless there was someone else in that area geographical area requesting a quote. I asked him to explain what he meant by this. " Unfortunately we can't make it out to that area, we are in Roseville". Now for anyone reading this, our homes are located in STERLING HEIGHTS and ROSEVILLE is only located 8-10 miles (15-18 minutes) south of where we live!!!!!!!! Really? Modern Fence Co, we get the message loud and clear. You don't want our business. My neighbors and I are all professionals and we understand professionalism and the lack thereof when we see it. By far this is VERY unprofessional. If you wish to decline service, you could just say that, so that we would stop wasting each other's time, but instead, you tell customers that you will call them back, when you don't. You say things like, "we can't give you a quote unless some other entitiy/party in your geographical area requests a quote as well." That is pathetic. Who does that? What company within minutes of a potential job opportunity does that? How does a company who does that stay afloat? That is so bogus and you know it is too. Let this be a warning to all those considering Modern Fence Co, in the future. I hate leaving bad reviews ,but the truth must be shared.

The job went well. From the initial estimate to the final job, every step was well thought out and professional. I'm very happy with the results

Modern seemed to use quality materials and the salesman was excellent. The Modern fence price happened to be more expensive than a fence company with similar quality so I chose the other fence company.

Initially things went OK. The estimate seemed good for the expected quality job. The two guys who came out seemed to be new and I questioned their post holes and the way they planned to level the back fence rather than line it in line with the angle of the land. They completed in a timely manner. The problem came two years later when 5 of the posts started leaning precariously into the neighbor's yard. I called they out and they gave me n estimate for $995 to fix the problem. when their guys came out I discovered that the holes were never deep enough (less than 2 feet not the 42 inches required). The reinstalled the post and panels but there was no price adjustment because of their error. Jump ahead to 2014 and it is going to cost another $1,000 to get 5 more posts replaced. I think a $10,000 investment should have lasted more thatn it did and that the first repairs should have had a price adjustment once they caw the bad job their guys did. Of course they are not getting anymore of my money and I will review one of the two companies I am getting an estimate from and end up hiring.

Work was done quickly and efficienly, area was left neat and clean. No waste material was left behind. Workers were polite and helpful.

He was polite, very nice, and professional. I went with another company just because they gave me a better price. He was also prompt. I would consider using him in the future.

They did very good, and the service was excellent.
