Great working with the pros at Grennan. Top quality job at fair price. Rebuilt entire chimney on 12/12 roof. Professional and knowledgeable. they made the chimney structure stronger than when new. i will have them back for addtional work next year

We used Angie’s list to pick a few highly rated firms to redo the entire outside of our home. They all offered the high quality products we wanted, and two of indicated that they would have a somewhat similar cost. We chose Grennan in part because Fred was not a high pressure sales person, he seemed business-like, quietly confident, and trustworthy. He also worked with us to develop a contract that clearly stated what would and would not be done, and in our case where we wanted three different treatments in different areas of the house, also clearly stated what would be done where. Of course it was impossible to know what was under the current siding so he set up a clear and fair rate for repair work should it be needed. We had a small section of our home done in stone and Grennen subcontracted that to a mason named Eric who did very good work. It is more of an artistic product than one might imagine to do the rounded rock we chose, and the gentlemen did a fine job on both the structural and the artistic aspects. We then had “Chris’s crew” do the bulk of the siding work and they were great. They arrived promptly, worked steadily and did high quality work for us. Despite every effort being made to have a clear and complete contract there are always small choices that must be made in any moderately complex house design. Chris was always happy to explain and discuss and would do the extra work to make it look great, rather than take the easy way. All three members of the crew were unfailingly polite and friendly. I do not know if you can specifically request Chris, or Eric but you might want to try. Adam was our project’s manager and he was also unfailingly polite and always sought to be sure we were well taken care of. The gutters were also subcontracted and the team from downriver did a fast and very good job. Our home is especially difficult because we have rain barrels in the summer and underground drains in the winter, but these folks were unphased by this challenge and got the job done well and on schedule. We also had two small crews come out to do shutters after the siding was up. They were nice people and did their jobs well and quickly. When it was all over the house looked spectacular and we have had many compliments. All the details like remounting lights and drier vents and the like were done well. We were totally happy. One bit of advice. You should not be surprised that doing good work for a fair price, Grennan is “in demand’. There is a backlog of work at least in the spring and summer, so unless you are having your work done in a slow season be sure to leave a couple months for your project to reach the top of the list and for all the materials to come in. If you plan ahead this is not an inconvenience, if you do not plan ahead you might be frustrated by having to wait.

From the first inspection until the completion of the job, we were treated as valued customers. The professionalism with which each stage was handled went far beyond what was expected. Even as supplies were delivered, dumpsters placed for the tear-off roof, scaffolding and ladders erected, etc., the workers took care to protect landscaping and access for the family. Fred Grennan's knowledge of roofing materials, electrical fans, venting, and insulation helped us immensely. Needless to say, we were and still are very pleased.

The process was completely explained and the job was performed efficiently with a very clean work site. Most importantly the work hold up over time.

Fred Grennan runs a really decent and fair company. We have used them for (3) projects on our house and all of them have worked out great. Projects were completed on time and on budget. Fred has good follow through and customer service. The crews Fred uses have experience and get the job done. Our experiences have all been positive. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again should the need arise. I have recommended Grennan Construction to my Neighbor and my sibling and their projects worked out fine too.

The crew on the jobsite was very good and the initial salesman was very good and very knowledgeable. But the communication within the company was bad, between the owner, salesman and Foreman. When I initially met the salesman, it was verygood. I explained the project, he listened and we are on the same page. But when the crew came out, they did not know what to do, because the internal communication was bad. The owner was challenging to deal with, he was abrasive, he was just difficult to deal with. They were still able to complete the job and I am happy with the end result. it's just the pain in completing it.

I hired Grennan Construction to replace the siding on most of the house. I had received bids from several other contractors. Many of them wanted twice as much as Fred. I went with Fred because he had *mostly* good reviews on Angies list and was also rated as an “elite preferred” installer on the James Hardie website. He also had the lowest bid. He wanted only $12,100 to do most of my house where others contractors wanted $30,000 to do the whole house. The final product was good. It was not excellent. Caulk was missing in spots, and the color of some caulk that was applied at the end that did not match the siding (They sent someone out to fix these items later on). One trim board above my garage door was noticeably wider than another trim board right next to it. There was a lot of brad nails used at the bottom of some siding and on trim boards. I asked that the brad nails be covered with touch up paint but they were not. I do not know why they bottom nailed in places but I don’t think Hardie is supposed to be top and bottom nailed. Clean up was so-so. I’m still finding cigarette butts, caulk tube tips, and pieces of siding in my lawn. There was also debris on my roof that I had to request they come back and remove. I would give Fred a “B” if not for the various other customer services issues. The short end of it is that he did not do things that were said verbally or things actually written in the contract. In my opinion, he just didn’t pay a lot of attention to our project. The things he said he would do and did not is take pictures of the siding after it came off. When I arrived on the first day of work my siding was already mostly covered in house wrap. The foreman did not take any pictures, and they had put house wrap over sections of rotted sheathing. Adam our “project manager” arrived shortly thereafter and said the house wrap was temporary in case of rain and was attached with staples. This was just BS. The foreman had already told me before Adam arrived the wrap was meant to be permanent (except the chimney section of the house), and they used nails not staples. I quickly pointed this out and asked that the house wrap to remove so that sheathing could be replaced as was originally discussed with Mike. They ripped the house wrap off the house and then set it aside to reuse it. I asked to have brand new house wrap used and Fred initially charged me for this but later removed the charge when I pointed out the removed house wrap was torn in places and filled with nail holes. Another thing that was said that I find almost impossible to be true is that our project would be sub-contracted to a “hardie crew we have been working with for 5 years or more.” These were the words of Mike during his initial visit. Two of the crew members were only 21 years old. Adam actually met my foreman for the very first time when he came out to see the house wrap situation. Because of this, I find it very difficult to believe this was one of the crews Mike was referring to. Things that were in the contract but were not done include magnetically sweeping the house at the end of every day and making the house water tight at the end of every day. The magnet sweep was done at the end of the project. Sheathing was left exposed to the rain several nights during the 2 week project. Another thing that was written in the contract was that a Frieze board above my garage would be replaced with rough sawn cedar and painted. Fred replaced it with Hardie Trim boards without discussing it with us first. He did take money off the final invoice for this (after I brought it up to him) but I would have preferred the cedar trim. I want to give an honest and fair review, so I will say that the siding looks good. Furthermore, a handy man I trust that specializes in smaller siding projects stated he thought it looked like a quality job. However, we will not be hiring Fred again. Despite his advertising “100% customer satisificaton” he never once asked us if we were happy with the final outcome of our project.

Grennan Construction replaced the aluminum siding on our ranch with vinyl siding. Fred Grennan was professional from the beginning to end of the project. From helping us select the siding to the installation. The workmanship of the siding was excellent. Like all major projects, questions and concerns can arise during the job. But a simple phone call or text and Fred took care of it. This is the second major exterior undertaking we have had Grennan Construction handle at our home. The first being our roof. Both projects have added to the home's appearance and value. I would recommend Grennan Construction for any exterior project.

Pretty well. There was a glitch in the siding labor estimate but the company resolved it satisfactorily and quickly.

They had to rebuild part of the chimney and tear off and replace the shingles. Extremely satisfied and have recommended them to a few people who also had similar problems like me and Grennan Construction solved the, They also offer a 2 year warranty.
