SPEARS TREE SERVICE

Excellent service and work done. They actually did more than we expected and were very proactive in suggesting how the work should be done. The were also very careful to ask us what we wanted done when potential issues might have arisen and made suggestions that were inconsistent with our original thoughts but resulted in a better work product.

Said they were open until 9PM. Not true. I called at 6PM, left a message, called back 2 times. Never got a response.

Their contact lousy. They wouldn't come out to my service area.

Workers did a very good job trimming the trees and listening to our request. They were professional and courteous.

They weren't supposed to come until June 30th or so but they came early and did a fantastic job! My yard looks great!

At the end of the first day Brian, (the owner?), had said it would be an additional $200 for stump grinding and removal, which I ok'd. During the first day Brian had an altercation with an employee and the police were called. It was embarrassing, to say the least, to come home to Livonia police at my house...Brian explained what had happened and I let it go. They cracked and broke a corner of my driveway with their equipment which Brian tried to convince me was inevitable and happened all the time. When the work was complete Brian tried to tell me the total cost was now going to be $4000 because of the stump grindings removal. After a heated discussion I agreed to pay him $3500. It's really a shame it had to come to this because all in all, the tree removal work was done very well and with the exception of his one employee who was gone after the first day, the workers were efficient and very good at what they did.

Spears was great to work with. We had a rather tall and definitely dead cherry tree on the edge of our property, right next to an equally tall and mature maple. I called Spears on a Saturday morning and left a message, and received a call back later that day scheduling someone to come out for an estimate by Tuesday. Later that evening, while out on an errand, I received a call from Brian (I believe that was his name) who said he was in the area and could stop by and look at the trees. By the time we got home a short while later, the estimate was already in our mailbox. For $600, they would remove the dead cherry and trim back the maple to allow more sunlight into the garden and surrounding lawn. I called the office that evening to leave a message and received a call back a few minutes later to schedule the work. Then I received a call on Monday letting me know they could be out on Friday morning and that I didn't have to be at home when the removed the tree. I left a check for them taped to the door and my neighbor sent me an email letting me know they had come and gone. When we got home, everything looked great. They took the cherry down right to ground level and trimmed the maple back more than I thought they would (which was a good thing). Aside from a bit of some small wood shavings and the fact that our yard suddenly had much more light pouring into it, you wouldn't have even known they were there. Oh, a cheap stepping stone paver we had by the base of the tree got cracked, but it was no big deal. I had an extra one and just plopped it in its place. Having never had a tree removed before, we really had no idea how much such a service would cost. We were pleasantly surprised to find that we could have such tall trees removed and trimmed for what we paid. On top of that, Spears had the work done in less than a week from the time I first called them to the time the job was completed. If we need any other tree work done, we will definitely be calling Spears.

I can't say if what happened to me was an Angie's List problem (not passing on my purchase info to the vendor) or a Spears Tree Service problem (somehow losing or ignoring my purchase info), but the bottom line is that I paid $299 for $400 worth of tree trimming and got nothing in return. At the time of purchase, Angie's List asked me to identify two service dates that would work for me, which I did, but Spears did not so much as visit my property, let alone trim any trees. And I did not receive a refund, meaning that I paid $299 for literally nothing. I rated the quality of the work done as N/A - who knows, maybe Spears is fantastic at tree trimming when they actually perform the work - but I can say with absolute certainty that my overall experience with this "project" was lousy (F).

They did a great job. They arrived early and were done in just over an hour. They had a wood chipper on site to get rid of all debris. I had called two other tree removal companies, and one of the reasons Spears got the job was because they called back the same day. By the time the others got around to returning my call, the job was either in progress or completed. They receive calls up until 9 pm, so that's a plus as well.

Great job - very responsive to what and how we wanted done. Some of the larger logs could have been cut shorter but they did a full days work including cleanup so we were satisfied with the results.

I wrote this tree service an email per the business card on September 16th. I got a response on September 25th. I then called the cell phone number given to me as was stated in the email. Another few days later I got a call back and while the contractor was very polite he did not seem to have any clue who I was and asked me where I got the quote from. I reminded him that he had emailed it to me and that seemed to jog his memory. This was on October 5th. He stated that "it would probably be Thursday or Friday" before he could get to me and I assumed he meant to get back to me on a schedule. I called him back the next day to let him know I would be out of town on Friday the 9th. On October 13th I called another phone number I had from the business card and spoke to a woman. I told her how I was waiting for the contractor to call me back on a date and she asked if I had "spoken to her or to Brian directly?" I said I had spoken to Brian. She took my name and number again and said she would get in touch with Brian and get back to me as soon as possible. I wrote them another email on October 17th to see if I was still on the radar or if I had slipped through the cracks. Today is October 20th and I have still not heard anything from them. I am not sure if our little tree was not a large enough job for them to squeeze in (they cut down 2 very large trees from a neighbors yard) but the lack of communication was very frustrating. Everyone I spoke with did seem very polite when I was able to reach someone, but they appeared unmotivated to pursue my business. I have contacted another service.

Contacted Spears Tree Service on 8/17 and followed up on 8/31 via Angie's List for quotes. Never heard back from them.

Did a great job with basic trimming - removing branches too near the house, hanging low over the street & sidewalk. Not such a great job on an apple tree - just gave it some overall shaping, but did not do anything about crossing branches, etc. I would use them again for trimming, but not for expert pruning.

Brian and his crew were great! They were quick, efficient and professional. From start to finish the job was done in 11/2 hrs. I was very impressed with everything and the price was much better than other quotes I recieved. I highly recommend Spears.

Very pleased with service. Had several companies provide estimates and Brian's price was very competitive. Crew showed up on time and got right to work. I asked them to take off a few more branches after they were almost finished and they did it without any issues. Would definitely hire again and recommend, thanks!

The service was excellent. The price was good. They sent a crew that was consiecious and organized. They completely cleaned up after themselves. I feel that I got a really good deal for the price I paid. Scheduling was a bit of an issue, I think they were really busy because of the storm damage.

Overall, I would recommend Spears tree service.

Very well. The trimmed trees on my driveway look great and the two trees in the backyard were removed incl. stump grinding without leaving anythings behind or damaging anything on the property. Great work.

I was at home when the services were performed and the two crews (one for tree removal and one for stump removal) did an absolutely fantastic job! With regards to the 2 trees that were cut down that were close to my house, not a single branch came close to hitting the house nor the roof. With regards to the tree stump removal, that crew did an excellent job on going down at least 6" with all of the tree stumps that were removed. I would highly recommend Spears Tree Service to anyone who needs trees and stumps removed in an extremely professional manner!

I had chopped the tree down but needed the stump removed. I called and they did a great job.

Tried to call them 3 times to get an explanation of high price, but never heard back. Bottom line was this was a bait and switch.

Brian the owner was really great to work with. Their price was very competitive and the work they did for us was great. Unlike the other companies I talked to, Spears was able to come and do the work within a week of our quote. They came out as planned and quickly went to work removing trees, wood chipping, and stumping. they laid down tracks on our yard in order to minimize damage to our lawn. They were also willing to do a special request and saved a few pieces of a tree for us to use as little benches for our kids. It ended up taking them the whole day to do the work. Clean up was pretty good. Most impressive was about a week later we realized that we still had a lot of small stumps in the ground that we needed to have removed before laying down sod. We called Brian and he sent two guys out a few days later to complete the stump removal. They truly are concerned with customer satisfaction! We think they did a great job and we'd highly recommend them for future jobs.
