Mr. Handyman of Northville, Canton, and Plymouth

We needed custom cabinets installed in our laundry room. Told them to bring a miter for the crown molding, which they didn't. They spent more time discussing the job than actually doing the work. They couldn't install the apron sink we provided because it "didn't have a lip", they didn't want to install the cabinet for the sink...etc.. More excuses than work from these two guys. And there was no supervisor to check on them. Found cigarette butts all over our driveway. They made lots of cell phone calls, and took lots of breaks. We wanted our old cabinets hung in the garage, which they didn't do. Lazy, lazy, lazy.

The workers did show up punctually. The tradesmen that did come were very skilled. However, I got the run around from the office. At first it was $90/hr. Then it was $96 an hour and that was per man. The project was drawn out and they never got to my gutters in 1-1/2 days of work. I was stuck using them because my usual independent handyman was not able to do job because of illness/injury. Other independent contractors were booked. The estimates given on work were similar between several independent contractors ($600 range for the days work with materials). However, Mr. Handyman charged $1400 dollars MORE than the first two estimates $1400 MORE!!!. They would not give price for work up front. I got screwed basically cause I needed this done before winter and they were available. They also nickeled and dimed me. I would hire the skilled tradesmen that worked for them again. But, I will never use the service of Mr. Handyman ever again. You know the workers aren't getting paid the $96 dollars.... and I don't feel I should be paying that much for all their advertising. ITS A RIP OFF. Find an independent guy working for himself and pay him well.

Hanging the TV's took over 7 hours. Fine. They were asked to hang 8 pictures only 3 got done, they said they would come back to take care of, but never called to schedule. I had to call them to get them scheduled and on the day and time they were to be here I got the call that they can't do the job. I have guest coming and they knew that. Total disrespect of my time and they couldn't work out how to hang 5 items on the wall, on time. I will not use there services again.

Company was easily accessible and polite. Man that was sent out was friendly and got the job done in reasonable time. He was asked to put a unique tool rack together and install on a wall in my garage. Because it was unusual he had to figure it out first, which he did without frustration. Good demeanor and good job.

It was a hot day and the technician worked hard. Most of the work was on an extension ladder - so it wasn't easy. I have no complaints on the work that was done or the quality of the work. The issue is the cost structure - this company charges by the hour, not the job. The rate is over $96 per hour, which can lead to a general level of uncomfortableness. You don't want to continually watch if the technician is working - but at $96 an hour, you're paying for every break, phone call, lunch, etc. Of course a worker is entitled to breaks and lunch (and I'm conflicted even writing this) - but be aware, you're paying for that time. My advice would be schedule any job with this company after lunch - so at least you're not paying for that downtime. The company called me after the service for feedback and I shared my concern for hourly rates. They later left me a voicemail and said I would be reimbursed for $24 (evidently assumed the technician took a 15 minute lunch break) ... that was over two weeks ago and I've yet to receive that check. The company did good work, but I'd stick with a by-the-job rate company ... it's just more comfortable. Follow-up: I did receive a check for $24 on October 9th.

Service technician was professional and knowledgeable. Work was done well, area left clean and orderly. Service technician was polite, ontime, and explained what he was doing and why. Very positive experience.

I called Mr. Handyman of Northville while back visiting my mom in Michigan. She is preparing to sell her house and had a few outstanding issues that others have attempted to fix. On the day the work was performed, I was informed Ken was tied up on a job that scheduled before ours and would be late. Once starting the work, he was efficient and thorough. Ken was able to identify a plumbing issue/leak that had eluded so many others before him. He also fixed a leak associated with a roof vent in near zero degree weather conditions. Finally, Ken did an outstanding job fixing a drywall seam that was improperly constructed when the basement was originally finished. Overall we are extremely satisfied with Mr. Handyman and will use them again in the future.

The young man that did the work was named ken, he was very punctual and cleaned up after himself. I would recommend them to anyone who needs to have work done around the house They are excellent. The owner was good to, he checked on the work that had been done. They are all around a good company.
