No hiccups; they installed within the week. Their rates were competitive with 3 other bids that I took. Not the cheapest, but close. They worked with me in extenuating circumstances as I was out of town for the whole process. All in all, I’d go with them again.

I recently had a service technician from Colonial Heating and Cooling come to inspect a small leak in my washer. The technician was nice and identified the issue easily, but unfortunately, my DTE protection plan wouldn't cover the repair due to the age of the appliance. The technician put the washer back together without fixing the problem, and I was told to contact the office to get an estimate for the repair and order the necessary parts. However, later that evening, I discovered that the washer wasn't working at all and was showing an error code indicating that the door was not closed properly. It seems like something went wrong when the technician was reassembling the washer. I called Colonial Heating and Cooling, the vendor for my DTE protection plan, and was told that they wouldn't come back to fix it. I was instructed to contact DTE to get another work order. I explained to Colonial Heating and Cooling that I had already ordered a new washer/dryer, but it would take 7-10 days for delivery, and I needed my washer to be functional during that time. I even offered to pay out of pocket for the service call, since DTE wouldn't issue another work order after the washer was deemed non-repairable. However, the representative refused to work with me, refused to transfer my call to a manager, and wouldn't take a message for the manager. As a business owner myself, I understand that mistakes can happen, but what sets a good company apart from a poor one is how they handle dissatisfied customers, especially when it's their own mistake. I have had successful experiences with other companies where issues were resolved satisfactorily and clients were happy. Unfortunately, Colonial Heating and Cooling's customer service has been disappointing, with a lack of willingness to address the situation and unhelpful attitudes. I would advise others to avoid using Colonial Heating and Cooling when dealing with the DTE protection plan

Colonial did an excellent job installing a water heater, energy efficient furnace and a/c unit. The installers were efficient, knowledgeable, courteous and great at cleaning up the job. The Trane unit installed is cost effective and has proven to be a good investment. I would hire Colonial again.

From top to finish it was excellent. Lee Brees was my salesman and from go made me feel at ease. He didn’t have that salesman attitude and was honest and educated on what he thought I needed for my home. The installers were super clean and very courteous as well. Mr. Brees did a fantastic job guiding me through a very stressful situation. What had started with another company was eventually finished by Colonial. Mr. Brees was personable, kind, and most importantly he was on time. His price for a full furnace and AC unit was not only less than a competitor, but installed quicker. I cannot thank him enough. He made an extremely stressful situation much easier. I appreciate his professionalism and would highly recommend Mr. Brees.

I've had these guys out for service a few times, and they've always been great to deal with, and don't spout B.S. when they indicate issues. Essentially, I'm educated, understand controls, and they don't jerk me around. My AC compressor finally gave up the ghost, and because my four year plan included a new HVAC system, I elected to replace the whole thing. Just to be sensible, I had a couple of others out to quote, including the Costco local contractor (who sells *only* Lennox), and Colonial Heating and Cooling was the least expensive. This worried me a bit, because it was significantly less expensive than the other two, but I broke my rule and went with the cheap bid because I liked these guys and they've always taken care of me before. (They're in the same ZIP code, and I've found that outsiders like to add a hidden "ZIP code tax" just because we're a township to a rich city.) They had no issues understanding the custom thermostat I wanted to re-use, and they threw in a condensate pump that was required but not part of the bid, and didn't try to charge me extra. Craftsmanship was excellent (I'm a stickler for that), the crew were considerate, the crew chief was knowledgable, and they left everything just as clean as they'd promised they would. My only complaint was their backlog. It was 90°F and we have a six-month-old. I won't take off a star because a backlog isn't really their fault, and it meant that I had Colonial installers rather than some goons they subcontracted. I wish dealing with every contractor left me with such good feelings.

I believe this is for the wrong company, this review should be for the local utility company, that is who pays for the service and gives out the orders on how/when to service their clients. We can only follow their rules because they are the ones paying the bill.

This will be the second time I've called for something that turned out simple and almost a wasted trip for the technician. In spite of this, the technician was friendly and helpful. Around 2am, the furnace wouldn't run past the inducer phase. I called Colonial around 7:30 am. By 8 am, the office called to go over my warranty. By 9 am, the technician was at my house. I couldn't believe how quickly he came. He explained to me the light flashing code on my furnace, lifted the air intake PVC tube, and there was a single leaf preventing the furnace from establishing a draft. There had been high winds that night, so it made sense. The technician showed me what to do if it happened again and he was on his way.

We called Colonial for this work because of our positive experience replacing a central a/c unit in 2012. Colonial did not disappoint this time either. Went with this company after getting numerous quotes. Colonial was recommended to us by a neighbor that we lived next door to in Plymouth. We have since retired and now are residing in Port Sanilac. Colonial came to our new residence two and a half hours away to do the install. Everything went very well. Technicians were very professional and respectful of our property along with being very knowledgeable. Cleaned up everything. Could not even tell that we had work performed except for the brand new furnace. Answered all questions and went through the operation of the furnace and thermostat. Later that evening when the temperature started to get colder we noticed a noise that was unfamiliar to us, so we called them first thing in the morning and they had a technician back out to our home in just a few hours. Did a total furnace check, attic intake/exhaust pipe check. Of course, we could not duplicate the noise. Everything checked out okay. Steve the technician, put some extra clamps on the pipes to make sure there was not any vibration. All in all, this is an excellent company to deal with. We can not say enough good things about them. Workmanship is above and beyond what we expected.. We are very satisfied with this company, Josh, Steve and the other technicians and of course the furnace!

Hired Colonial to install new high efficiency furnace and AC unit. Gave a fair price and seemed professional up front. When it came time for the install, 2 clowns showed up in a rusted out unmarked van to do the work. They where there for several hours longer than estimated and couldn't figure out why the A/C didn't work at first. They did a pretty shoddy job installing the unit. The exhaust pipes were rattling against the ducts and making noise. They came out twice for noise issues. Didn't do anything the first time and made some minor adjustments the second time that didnt help. I realized that the noise was due to the fact that they didn't install a rubber isolator between the ducts and the furnace, so it caused the ducts to resonate. This furnace was loud and we hated it. Tried to get them back out a year later but it was a complete joke trying to schedule an appointment with them. I wouldn't recommend this company, they clearly sub contract their work out to random Joes to do the work and they do not follow up to ensure customer satisfaction.

This is an older review, but still applicable. This may apply to those of you with older homes, those undergoing a major remodel or even for a simple furnace or AC replacement. We have a 1921 bungalow in downtown Plymouth. In 2010 our original steam boiler was 89 years old and still chugging along. The previous owner had installed a jury-rigged central air conditioning system that was 28 years-old. Both systems were extremely energy inefficient and on their last leg. I called three HVAC contractors to give me bids on replacing the two separate systems and combining them into one modern energy efficient system. It was an extremely complicated bid because the heating system provided steam heat through radiators and the cooling system was made out of haphazard duct-work scabbed into each room. Extensive duct-work needed to be run throughout the entire house. The required duct-work greatly increased the complexity and cost of this project. To complicate matters more, we were doing a major remodel of our basement. And, because of the period the house was built in, the basement ceiling is only 7 feet high. I needed all of the duct-work to run between the joists in 80% of the basement. Quite a challenge. After spending hours with the first three bidders I was not convinced that their approach to the job would work to my expectations. I called two more HVAC contractors and gave them a chance to bid and prove to me what they where capable of...and it turned out that I got nowhere because it was too complicated. Each of the 5 bidders had an entirely different approach to solving the problem. The bids were somewhat close on price, but there were too many variations to really compare apples to apples. And, I still wanted flat finished ceilings in my basement without duct-work showing and they all said that it was not possible. About a week later I got lucky while attending a Plymouth Green Fair. Colonial Heating & Cooling had a booth and the owner, Josh, was present. I told him about my project and that his company gave me a bid but it did not satisfy my requirements. He immediately followed me to my house and went over his bid with me (his salesman wrote the original bid, so he was not too familiar). Josh spent two hours with me going over every inch of my house and he figured out how to run the duct-work to satisfy my flat ceiling requirement. He met with me two days later with his revised bid and went over it with me. He had the most expensive bid, but also the most thorough. Josh said that he only installs Trane furnaces and air conditioners which were much better than his competitors brands. I checked all of the bids for the brands and compared them to Consumer Reports. At that time the Trane multi-stage furnace was ranked number one by Consumer Reports, and the Trane two-stage air conditioner he bid was ranked a close second to the number one overall, Rheem. The other bidders were using much inferior components. The largest company, which had the lowest bid, installed components which were rated dead-last in Consumer Reports, at that time. The ratings made my decision easy. I went with Colonial and it turned out to be an excellent choice. Their employees were very professional and competent. There were many challenges in our old house and they did an excellent job. I highly recommend Colonial Heating & Cooling!

Installation of the furnace was difficult and required more visits than planned. Install went well and clean up complete. No struggles with the A/C. Price was a little higher than other quotes, but through Trane offered 3 yr no interest financing. And to bring the cost in line, included air duct cleaning.
Description of Work: Remove old furnace and air conditioner. Install high efficiency furnace. This require manipulation of the inlet and exhaust pipes as the wall structure in the basement did not allow for easy routing. Replaced air condition, with a larger size than the home required, but was less expensive since this was the size they used in higher volume.
