A decision was made at the beginning of this year to move my 84 year old mother-in-law into our home. Doing this meant making major renovations to our house. A downstairs/basement living area, bedroom needed to be created and a bathroom remodeled. We needed to move the washer and dryer upstairs and remodel that bathroom. One closet was converted to accommodate the washer and dryer and a new closet needed to be built. We got estimates from several contractors. Most were quick to tell us why certain things couldn't be done and tried to steer us into how they wanted to do it. Enter Scott Felcyn with Felcyn Construction (Scott was recommended to us by Joe Kerns/Dependable Plumbing- see my other reviews) . What struck us right away was how Scott really listened to what our vision of the project was and how he took our ideas and along with his input, turned them into a practical, doable plan. We decided to go with Scott and we're very happy that we did! Once the work began I became even more impressed with Scott and his co-worker Matt. From the outset Scott's craftsmanship, professionalism and attention to detail were evident. He built a beautiful half wall around the basement stairway (with a really great ledge and molding!). Scott ordered a half door for the stairway but when he picked it up he wasn't happy with the quality of it so he built one himself that looked better than any of the ones we looked at! Every part of the project, no matter how big or small was done the right way without corners or quality being cut. I need to point out Scott's consistent, positive attitude. Whenever we asked is it too late to do this or is it too late to change that Scott never rolled his eyes or gave a heavy sigh (which unfortunately seems to be all too common these days). He always accommodated our requests when possible without making us feel like we were imposing on him in anyway. Along those same lines, if he was working on something that he thought we might want to tweak or change Scott would let us know before it became too impractical to change our minds! There were a couple of unexpected problems- a bathroom wall was so far out of square that it needed to be replaced and the downstairs doorway had water damage that required major repair work. Scott took everything in stride and did a great job of communicating to us what the impact of these and quot;unforseensand quot; were, giving us our options and proceeding only after he was sure we were all on the same page. Another positive was Scott's time management and efficiency. He and Matt always maximized their time here. If they were waiting on a coat of paint to dry they would be cutting and staining trim (as an example). They were always doing something productive. If they were here they were working. I work at home so I these are things I know first hand. We ended up asking Scott to do a lot more painting than we had planned and I can vouch for the fact that his painting skills are just as good as his carpentry skills! My wife and I were very, very impressed and happy with the painting that was done. This was a big project that involved a lot of work and a lot of extras that we asked Scott to take on. Scott was the consummate professional throughout and did a great job of managing this major renovation. On to the finished product! We are just thrilled with the way everything turned out. It has been a real pleasure to take family members and friends on the and quot;tourand quot; and hear all of the oohs and ahs! I can't wait for others to use Scott so they can enjoy the same quality work that we are! I began this review by saying that we were moving my mother-in-law into our home. She has since moved in and I think that the ultimate positive comment I can give to Scott is that his work and the transformation of our home has helped make a difficult decision/transition for her into a positive experience. She has a beautiful new upstairs that she can call her own and we have a beautiful new downstairs for me, my wife and daughter! I recommend Felcyn Construction with 100% confidence that you'll have the same great experience that we've had!

It went well. The project as a whole took longer than anticipated due, in large part, to extremely damp and humid weather which directly affected the drywall and painting (and the floor install to a lesser degree). There were differences between Joe the plumber and Scott the contractor and the way they worked. Nothing major but my wife, who was the one here for the actual work, feels the differences were worth noting. Joe put a runner down across all carpeted areas between the outside and the actual work area. Scott and his assistant had to be reminded to wipe their feet. Scott's work cannot be faulted, the job looks great, his attention to those details that keep customers from pouting and squirming suffered from the comparison to Joe's methods. Joe and Scott do seem to make a good team.
Description of Work: Worked with Joe Kerns, plumber to remodel our bathroom. Scott provided demolition, some underfloor replacement and repair, drywall and painting, vanity removal and replacement and installed the new tile floor.
