MIKES TREE SERVICE

Honest. Mike and his crew arrived as scheduled. Professional. Left yard neat and clean. My trees look great.

Mike's Tree Service (517-712-6464) on Balcom Rd., Ovid, Michigan, took advantage of my elderly parents (who are 76 and 81 years old, and overly trusting). I located him to trim trees in my parent's yard on in June 2012. He did a significant amount of trimmming and charged them $1600.00, (never removed a tree, just to clarify). He then reappeared uninvited in November 2012, and knocked on their door. He told my father that there was additional trimming that needed to be done, and my father, trusting him, agreed. He told my dad he wanted $2000.00. My dad resisted given the significant trimming that had taken place in June. Mike then got my dad to reluctantly agree to give him $1500.00. My parents never felt right about it, and told me serveral weeks later what had taken place. Neither my parents nor I could identify any significant tirmming and certainly not $1500.00 worth. I called Mike to complain, and told him that I felt my father had been taken advantage of, and I wanted him to make it right. He apologized and agreed to refund $700.00 of the money. That was the beginning of January 2013. He has never sent any money and will not return my calls. I am in the midst of contacting the Attorney General, the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, Elder Law and the Better Business Bureau. We have the cancelled checks/ and documentation to support this. I tried to post a review on the website, and it moderates and only posts positive reviews. I posted this on their Facebook Page, and apparently he has tried this before. BEWARE of this company! I am just grateful he didn't get more from my parents before I found out.

I used this service in 2009, and they were great in every way. This time I called them, and the owner came right away and gave an estimate of $300. He said they were busy and would get back to me when they had time. After nearly two weeks, I called back because I had to leave town soon. It seemed they had lost track of me, but said they would send someone out first thing the next morning. The crew arrived late in the morning, after another call. The estimate had increased to #350, but it was still a good price for the amount of work. THey did most things well. Cleanup was not complete and a couple of branches we not done. I painted the branches to be done and repointed the branches out before they started work. .All things combined, not terrible, but not perfect.

Mike and his crew worked extremely hard, were professional and polite, asked permission before moving their heavy equipment, and cleaned up well. I would heartily recommend Mike's Tree Service, without reservation.

Stripped major branches indiscriminately except for very top where he could not get, thus, "lion tailing" the tree. Looked awful, tree has had a couple of stressful summers now and got a disease (diagnosed by MSU). He's not a certified arborist though he will lead you to believe he is.

No heavy equipment could be brought near the tree due to potential damage to septic tank and drain field. Mike's team climbed the tree and roped the cut limbs to the ground. They did a basic clean up of the ground, which was fairly good considering the overall mess and sawdust everywhere. The job took an aditional day longer than the one day estimated. This could be because they started 2 hours late on the first day and had only half the crew. Mike Son is very personable and addressed all my concerns. I'd have no reservations using his services again.

He made it sound as if he was certified in tree service (an arborist). As I found out too late,he is not. I will always follow up by independently checking in the future! I had an actual arborist look at the tree after Mike had finished with it and he described what had been done as "lion tailing", in other words, the brances were stripped most of the way up with growth left at the ends. It looked terrible! It had been a beautiful tree and might now take years to get back to looking that way again. Do not use this man to service your trees.

One tree service had given us an estimate of $300, Mike came over very promptly after the call gave me an estimate and competed the job within the time frame that he indicated and charged half the price. I will definitely use him again as we have some trees that soon will need to be trimmed up.

Did a great job! Came over to give me an estimate on the same day that I initially called them. The estimate was very reasonable and they had completed the job exactly as they said they would within one week. I was very pleased with their service.

The trees were trimmed well and they cleaned up the yard when they finished. The only complaint I have is the inconsistency in their communication. Phone calls were not returned promptly and there was a lot of miscommunication between those setting up appointments at the office and those doing the actual work.

Mike and his crew showed up on the date and at the time they promised. They worked hard and did the job. There was a small problem (for them) when it started raining and they got a truck stuck, but they took care of the problem.
