Description of Work: I had not had the best experience with them last summer with my lawnmower. There were communication problems regarding when the repair would be done and then the same problem that they repaired reappeared three months later. | |This year, my tiller failed to start. I had originally purchased it from them so I figured I would give them another chance. Big mistake. | |They called to say the tiller was ready and I went in. The guy at the desk was sort of a smart aleck but after he came back from looking for my tiller he got more serious. The gal at the counter assured me that the place was pretty cluttered and the guy just had to find my tiller. Pretty cluttered; just what I wanted to hear. After a fair amount of time he came back with the verdict; "they gave my tiller to somebody else." | |In case that didn't sink in, I will repeat; they gave my tiller to somebody else. Apparently the claim ticket on the tiller meant nothing to them. So after assuring me that they would get it back for me immediately, the guy said he would call later to update me. | |Needless to say, he didn't call and when I went back the following morning I waited ten minutes while he chatted with another customer. I could tell by his face that he had totally forgotten who I was or what I was there for. Anyway, when I asked for my tiller and an explanation of why he didn't call, he talked to someone else and then did a fair amount of tap dancing. Seems "there was another tiller just like mine, and so when the customer game in, they gave him mine instead." But don't worry...he would "make it right" with me. | |Eventually they delivered a tiller that looked like mine. For all I know, maybe it is. I have no way of actually knowing whether it was mine or whether it was the one the other customer left, of course. | |As for "making it right", apparently that meant "I would get my tiller eventually." I certainly got no break on the price or any other good will gesture for their screw up and lousy service. | |

Response from Midwest Power Equipment
As you may have guessed, growing pains are present in our company right now. As you can see from other reviews, we have added staff and are in the process of a complete company work load management revamp. We are obviously not perfect and apologize for giving what turns out was the same model tiller to a different user. I have no excuses, I will just continue to train and develop my staff so they are better suited to handle situations. Smart alek employees will not be tolerated. I invite you to come in and introduce yourself to me, the owner and I would be happy to not only discuss the situation but I will refund your service fee in its entirety. I wish I would have been involved from the start on your situation. Thank you for your comments, it is good to know our areas of weakness as we revamp.

They offer a service where for $40 roundtrip they will come and pick up our tractor, which was not running. We had no trailer so, for us, it was fantastic. They were very professional, answered our questions when we called, They were good at explaining to my husband what was wrong . It took a couple of weeks to get our tractor back because they were busy, but they explained that when we called.

I took my self-propelled Toro lawn mower that I had purchased from this company in for repair after noticing a problem with the rear-wheel drive. The mowing season was over, but my 3-year warranty was coming to an end, and I took the mower in when I did so the repair could be done before the warranty expired. A staff member informed me that the company repairs lawn mowers only in the spring and that he already had some 400 snow blowers to be serviced. I returned home with the lawn mower, upset by the fact that this company—which has recently moved to a larger store in another location—is ill-equipped to handle its customer base. After finding another company that was willing to look at my mower, it was ultimately repaired under warranty. I note from the owner's comments to other reviewers that several new staff members have been added in the recent past, but I'm doubtful that that will be sufficient to handle the workload this company is fortunate enough to have. To be honest, I will probably use this company again because it is relatively close to my residence and because it provides competent, high-quality service, when service is delivered. Because the company’s services are in high demand, I respectfully suggest to the owner that he develop a totally new service-delivery model to satisfy the needs of his many customers.
Description of Work: Nothing; after responding negatively to my request to repair a lawn mower

You hit the nail on the head {removed member name}, just because we have added more people does not mean that they understand the needs of the customer base we have. A complete revamp is in process, training, scheduling, manners, etc..etc.. It does take time but rest assured I will get it done. Thank you for your comments, I look forward to our next opportunity and hope our hard work to revamp work load management is noticeable when we see you.

A month later, we called for a status, and they hadn't even looked at it yet. I feel they really gave us the run around....I have more respect for a company when they are honest and can admit, "Sorry, we will have to delay your job" instead of making up excuses why it hasn't been done. The snowblower was eventually fixed, but it took over a month to get it back - and only after several phone calls and and in-person visit. VERY FRUSTRATING!
Description of Work: When we dropped off our snowblower, they told us it would be done in 10 days.

Response from Midwest Power Equipment
[Member name removed], first let me apologize for the delay in the service. As you can imagine this winter, with all the weather, ice and snow, the local power equipment shops have been a bit overwhelmed. This is in no way an excuse, it is a realization that we need to staff better to accomodate our customer requirements. And I have done just that. We added two more technicians and two more counter personell so that we can be a LOT more efficient. I hope you will allow us another opportunity in the future to gain back the satisfaction that we have lost from you. I would love to meet you in person sometime, I do appreciate the business and the comments. I always tell our customers "if I don't know what is wrong, I can't fix it", so thank you for pointing out a flaw in our system. Jon - Owner

Terrible. Arrived and went up to counter. Waited, waited....never even acknowledged until after 12 minutes I finally said I was there to pick up a saw. No response for a minute, then finally, person behind counter said someone would be right with me. Other people...men...came in and were promptly attended to....while I waited another 8 minutes and finally left in disgust. Mind you, we recently spent almost $1,000 on a new lawn mower there as well. Thinking next time, Sear's. While we have always used Midwest for our snow blowers, mowers, etc., I believe the service after a purchase, no matter how big or small, is just as important as the sale.

Response from Midwest Power Equipment
Hi [member name removed], I would like to take the opportunity to apologize for the service you have received this past summer. I believe you have pointed out what I had suspected and that is that we were severely understaffed at different point throughought the day. That being said, we have added two technicians and two counter personell to accomodate our customer needs. I have never had the privelidge of meeting you but have met the Mr. of the house and have always enjoyed a postitive relationship with him, and I assume that is why he has purchased so many things here. I hope to continue the business relationship that we have had in the past and encourage you to introduce yourself next time your in. Thank you for pointing out a flaw that we have, even though it hurts to hear, rest assured, I am committed to fixing the issues we have. Jon - Owner

As I stated above, I could not have asked for a smoother transaction. Evidentally they do this service once in the spring for mowing equipment and again in the fall for snow equipment. What a GREAT service for busy folk like myself. And the price is great, significantly cheaper than the competition after I called around. I was curious after I got the service all done, what was the competitions price and DID I really get a deal. I called four places and EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM was more expensive and RUDE too. So, again, to the MEN and WOMAN at Midwest - WELL DONE!!
Description of Work: I, like most people only think about my snowblower when it is getting ready to snow. And, like most, leave fuel in the thing until I think about it. Well, I did it again this year and of course it would not start. I called Midwest to see what I needed to do to get it serviced. The gal that answered the phone was very friendly and pleasant to talk to. She told me about a service special that the company had going on where not only would they come pick it up for free, they would have an annual service done and the unit delivered back (barring any parts issues) before this snowstorm we were supposed to get. All for $69. I was impressed, so I took her up on the offer. They were out that day to pick it up! I received a call the next day stating that the service was done and they had noticed my drive belt was cracked. The belt would work, but if I wanted it replaced, they had it in stock and would install it if I'd like. For $10....heck yes, put the belt on! They did and delivered it the next morning. I tested the thing before it actually snowed the other day, it started in two pulls and ran flawlessly. To the men and woman at Midwest - WELL DONE! You have earned a faithful customer
