American Flooring

We selected American Flooring for our Home Remodel project. They offered a wide selection of quality hardwood flooring and porcelain tiles. Yvonne worked with us to determine the best flooring options and obtained samples to enable us to make an informed decision. The flooring materials we ordered were excellent quality. In addition, Yvonne scheduled the flooring installation activities in coordination with our ongoing Kitchen Remodeling project. She has a wonderful team of experienced flooring installers. We were especially pleased with the professional work performed by Tim and his team. We have included some photos of the work performed. Overall, we are happy and pleased that we chose American Flooring for our project.

Yvonne and the staff at American Flooring were extremely knowledgeable and helpful when we needed to replace carpeting in our home. I told Yvonne what I was looking for, and with so many flooring options today, she listened to my needs and gave great options to choose from. I was able to take home samples, which really helped in making a decision. The installers were very professional and our carpet looks great! We are planning on building a new home in the future and we will definitely use American Flooring in Okemos!

AMAZING!!! Worked with Yvonne picking out wood, carpet and tile for entire house. Yvonne is an excellent designer with great vision. Pricing was very good and installation was right on time and very professional. Our recommend American Flooring Okemos to anyone looking for great pricing and professional service. No hassle experience.

Their web site goes on and on about what great cork flooring they have. Lot of images. Got excited. Went to store. "We do not have cork." Not, 'sorry, but we don't carry that any more and we really apologize for not updating our web site.' or 'Sorry to have caused you to make a special trip all the way here to our store only to have us apologize (NOT).' Don't believe ANYTHING they say on their web site. They are lame.

It went great. They started on time, finished on time, and the floor looks beautiful. It was a struggle finding the right tile, but Kevin persevered and got us the exact tile we needed. The installers did a nice job of accommodating wiring for the entertainment system and wood-stove fan. We did not price shop, so I can't really comment on that aspect, but we bought solid maple flooring which accounted for half of the total cost.

The salesperson was really nice and helpful. He helped get me a carpet that I really like without going over my budget. The installation went very well. The installers were on time and very professional. In only a couple of hours my new carpet was installed and the area was cleaned and vacuumed. Overall, I am very happy with my experience with American Flooring Okemos and highly recommend them.

We had a great experience from beginning to end. Our sales person was very helpful in making sure we had exactly what we needed and wanted. The installers arrived on time and had our flooring installed in no time. They remained professional and polite throughout their time in my home. We won't go anywhere else for our flooring needs!!

I spoke with Yvonne and she was incredibly helpful with setting everything up. She helped me pick out the flooring as well since I live out of town. The installers came and did a great job in a short couple of days. Overall the service was all very professional, organized and efficient. They definitely took the time and care to make sure everything went smoothly. I could't have been happier with how it turned out, the house looks brand new and all for a very reasonable price. I plan on getting new flooring in the basement from them in the near future.

Paul was great to work with. Very helpful and not pushy at all. We had to reschedule 3 times due to scheduling issues with our move and they were very accomodating. The installers were very friendly and worked late the last day to ensure we could move in on time. We'll be using them again when we redo our basement and highly recommend American Flooring.

All three rooms look exceptional! Our salesperson was accommodating and extremely helpful when we were picking out exactly what we wanted. We could not be more pleased with the installation crew. They were punctual and very professional. They worked efficiently and were finished in a reasonable amount of time. All of their work area was cleaned up of all debris and they vacuumed the carpet before they left. All in all a great store to work with!

I liked the pattern that we bought and the installer was really good. Efficient, careful, well organized. We liked him a lot.

The showroom was very nice and organized. John took his time explaining benefits of the different types of floors. They were able to provide us with several samples until we found the perfect one. They were very patient and did not push for us to make a quick and potentially bad decision. The person who came and measured the layout was very professional and did a an outstanding job and also helped confirm that our decision was the right one. Both the carpet and flooring installers were FANTASTIC. They were very professional and the install was absolutely perfect!!

My rating of American Flooring is mixed. I really wanted to give them an A, but one of their salespeople adversely affected our overall experience. We first visited American Flooring in early winter of 2014, to learn about new carpet options, and get a sense of how much it would cost to replace the carpet in a large area of our home. At that time, we worked with a salesman named Jeff, who was very friendly and genuinely helpful. He went above and beyond answering my many questions. When it came time to negotiate on price, both Jeff and Yvonne worked with us and came up with a quote that matched the lowest bid and financing offered by a competitor (we had shopped around at other small-business carpet retailers). Unfortunately, we just couldn't justify the expense at that time, and didn't want to compromise on the carpet we purchased. Fast forward to spring 2015. We had saved up more money for a down payment, and were ready to return to American Flooring to make our purchase, because we were very pleased with our previous experience. I was disappointed to learn that Jeff no longer worked there, but another salesman, whom I won't name, offered to assist. The same carpeting was still available, and I asked him if American Flooring would honor their previous quote, which included 18 months 0% financing. He reviewed our file and confirmed that yes, they would honor the previous quote. We took home some samples to decide on color, but they were too small for us to decide with confidence. I spoke to Yvonne on the phone about obtaining larger samples. She was very helpful and able to order several for us, which made our decision much easier. When I went back into American Flooring to finalize our purchase and make our down payment, I double checked with the salesman that the terms included 18 percent financing. He said something along the lines of "Oh, I was hoping we wouldn't need to do 18 months, that 12 months would suffice." Then, told me the cost of carpet had went up, how American Flooring had to pay for us to finance, etc. He also showed me a number on an old piece of paper from our file, where the final amount was higher, and tried telling me if we would pay that amount, then they could offer the 18-months financing. Well, that was a higher number from before we shopped around the previous year, and were offered more competitive quotes. I pointed out another number on the paper that was lower - our final quote. I was really annoyed, and felt it was a classic salesman bait-and-switch tactic. After all, he had our file and had agreed to match our previous quote - the amount of which was confirmed over the phone. I informed the salesman that we wanted the 18 months financing in our quote, and pointed out that we were making a larger down payment than the amount factored into our previous quote, so actually, American Flooring would be paying less to help us finance. He saw I was annoyed, so admitted it was probably a "wash" and they would meet the original quote and finance terms. The carpet installation itself went well and was on time. The carpet had a cut and loop pattern, which can be tricky to seam, but the installer, Jason and his crew, did a great job and seemed experienced. Once the carpet was installed, I followed up with the salesman, because we had yet to receive any warranty information about the carpet, how to maintain it, or terms in which it required steam cleaning to maintain the warranty. After making an $8,000+ purchase, I felt American Flooring should have provided us with this info. The salesman emailed a very generic and useless "warranty at a glance" from Shaw flooring, which owns the brand of our carpet. However, the carpet itself was made by Stainmaster, so also had a Stainmaster warranty. Upon visiting the Stainmaster website, I couldn't determine what warranty our carpet fell under (the terms are all different and confusing), and emailed the Salesman asking him once again, for more comprehensive information. He gave me Stainmaster's phone number, said he had no additional information, but might be able to mail me a Stainmaster brochure when they got more in. That was a month ago, and I still haven't heard from him. I finally had a chance to call Stainmaster and obtain the information directly from them, which includes a requirement of steam cleaning carpet every 18 months, and retaining the receipts, in order for the warranty to remain valid. If I hadn't taken it upon myself to get this information, and failed to get a future cleaning and keep the receipt, we'd be out of our warranty - thanks to the salesman. Overall, Yvonne (the owner) was great to work with, as was former salesman Jeff and the carpet-installation crew. One of their salespeople however, leaves a bit to be desired. While pleasant enough, his sales tactics and less-than-stellar customer service were not appreciated.

I picked the company long distance because of their reviews. Initial phone set up went well. We were moving out and we weren't ready for the measuring appointment so I did call to cancel the appointment. Unfortunately he didn't get the message. He came to a complete disaster but was able to get the measurements. I set up the installation appointment via phone/email which took a little waiting and back and forth. Not perfect communication but okay. The carpet was due to be installed at 10 am but I was called by the installer (at close to 11 am) and he was all over the city that day and asked for a later time. I agreed but since I had other appointments that day I asked to be as late as possible. Probably not a great choice in retrospect. I felt the installation wasn't very good and told him I wasn't happy with the way it looked. He did say it looked the same as the way it was before (well....I obviously didn't want a repeat of a bad job). He did point out the steps were old and the reason the carpet didn't wrap around the edges of the steps. He did staple it down the best he could which I appreciated. It is acceptable. A solid average.

From the time I walked in the store the staff was very welcoming, I worked with Yvonne Weaver, she was great, knew her product and was able to make recommendations that were different from what I was thinking, But clearly the better choice for what we were doing. Very pleased we took her advice and knowledge. The install crew showed up exactly when they were scheduled, they were respectful of our belongings and did a fantastic job. I will definitely use American Flooring Okemos again for any flooring needs we have in the future.

Brought several carpet samples to my office for me to choose from. Came to my house to measure the rooms I would be having carpet installed in. When I picked the carpet I wanted I call Yvonne and placed my order within a week my carpet had arrived I made appointment to have installs come and install the carpet and padding. They were on time and very nice to work with. The whole experience went pretty smooth I even recommended them to my mom when she was looking to have her flooring replaced. They installed vinyl and carpet in my mom's house as well.

We needed to update an office suite that was worn and out of date. The sales department was very helpful in assisting with styles, and color choices. The installation went off without a hitch, as the team was timely and professional.

They're really friendly. It went pretty well. However, I 'm not too happy about some of the berber in the basement because it's coming up.

Sub-contractor was courteous and professional. Worked hard to finish job on schedule. Overall job was done well though finishing/retails could be a little better (perhaps rushed by our schedule). Vendor was frustrated that I tried to get the best price (grumbled when I wanted to use an Angies List coupon).

Everything was excellent from the sales to the installation. No complaints only praise.

I took in a sample of my granite and Yvonne helped me choose tile to use on our backsplash. She was very helpful without being pushy. She did not care that we were not going to use their installer, just seemed to care that I would be happy with the tile in our kitchen.

The salesman at American Flooring was fine. He was informative without being pushy. The carpet-layers were excellent. One of the rolls had a dent-line at the end. Rather than laying the carpet, he pointed out this problem and asked what we wanted to do. In spite of a discount offered if we accepted the carpet, we opted for new. It took a few more days to wait for the new carpet but they came and took care of it. I recommend this company for you to highly consider if you are purchasing new carpet

The job went very smoothly and was very nicely done. There was no mess left behind and it was quality all the way. The price on the tile was reasonable though much more than the tile we would have bought through a DYI place. Didn't mind that, but the cost of the installation seemed high to me. We went with them, however, because I wanted to get the jobs done and out of the way. But in the future, I would buy the tile from American Flooring but first find a flooring person to estimate and do the job that was more reasonably priced than American's contract tile person.
