Good. He arrived and gave us an estimate. He originally had planned to do the work that day but upon looking at the issue, knew he needed more time. I appreciate that he did come back when he could spend the time to do the job right.

Great. I will use the Mr. Sponge services once we get the water source issues corrected.
Description of Work: No services were performed as the Mr. Sponge rep pointed out that I needed to identify and correct the source of water getting to the basement. Otherwise, he said I would be wasting money. We since determined the front porch is not sloped correctly and we have cracks in the pavers allowing water to collect above grade and seep into the subfloor as well as the basement crack.

He was very prompt. They gave me at time window of 12-4pm, and he was at my door at 1pm. I showed him all the holes I wanted repaired in the basement. For the typical rod-hole repairs, he provided me with good faith information that where he charges $20 per hole, I could purchase their TRX plug for only $5 and do it myself. I was very pleased that he tried to help me reduce my costs, but I told him that for this trip, I'd have him do it, watch him do it, and for any new holes that may crop up I would try the TRX plug myself. He grabbed his tools, and started to angle-drill behind the panel to get to the rod hole. It was in such a perfect dead center position that he ended up drilling in from both sides just to make sure that he got to the actual rod hole. He then filled the hole with a Vulkem sealant, and then inserted both his generation 1 TRX plug and a cork to hold it in the sealant. For the other 11 holes, he quickly filled 9 of them with the same process as the drilled holes (cleared the rod hole, then sealant, Gen 1 TRX plug, and cork. For the last two holes, he took the time to show me the New TRX plug and used those for the last 2 holes at no extra charge. He then mixed up some quick-try cement, and filled/covered all 12 of the holes (including the 13th hole he had to drill behind the fuse panel. He was very friendly and personable. He worked quickly and was out in and out in roughly an hour. It turns out this is actually the 2nd time I used Mr Sponge. I found the reciept from the first time some 10 years ago, and those repairs have never leaked to this day.
Description of Work: Filled/patched 12 rod holes in the concrete foundation of my house (basement). One of those holes was directly behind a fuse panel making it a very non-standard repair.

They were very professional and showed me what had to be done. The door leak was something that they did not do so they were very honest and told me to contact a handyman for the repair. They also showed me where the rod holes were and I told them that I had fixed them before and they said that I could do it very inexpensively myself and they said that for that small job that they would charge quite a bit more than the cost would be if I did it myself. They were very professional and honest and I would recommend them to whoever needed those type of services.
Description of Work: They looked over my basement for two leaks that surfaced last weekend with the heavy rains. They found the 3 rod holes that caused one leak and said that I could fix them myself since I had done that before. Also they found one leak that was coming from a door that leads from the kitchen to my deck that had a big space in between the metal plate that is connected to the cement slab. They recommended that I get a handyman to come out and put a new door in and reseat the metal plate and cement slab.

Called for a price quote and was told $325-475 per crack, no matter how large it was. When asked to do an estimate they asked us to send pictures instead of having someone come out to look at it. They gave us an estimate of $650 after receiving the pictures. We sent four pictures but the company apparently only sent one of them to the guy they gave the job to, meaning he only knew of a single crack when he added nearly 50% to their highest over the phone estimate. We scheduled an appointment to have the work done, but when the guy showed up he told us it would be $2,700 to fix, that he had no experience with our particular problem, and that he couldn't do the work that day but would have to come back on a later date, at a later time in the day so he would have time to finish it in a day (yea, we didn't get it either). He did not like answering questions about his experience or qualifications, and did not sound confident in his ability to successfully stop the leak. All in all, bad form, bad experience, and I would not recommend this company based on our dealings with them. They provided too much misinformation, too little competence, and a bait and switch approach we found highly distasteful. Even if we must pay a higher price for the work from somewhere else, I would rather that than dealing with an untrustworthy company that cannot even forward pictures competently.

Response from Mr Sponge Waterproofing Inc
Were sorry that this customer did not fully understand the scope of the repair. We stated up front on arrival that we were responding to (one) crack as seen in the photograph I had on-site that we received. They claimed to have sent four. After further investigation, their wall crack spanned the entire wall horizontally. Four photographs would not have covered this length, (if they had sent them.) I also asked them to show me the email (sent) file. They could not show that to me. This type of repair is not your average wall crack and I advised them up front. They were unhappy with that result. We could not service this customer as their expectations were to repair a crack that was (est), 20 feet long for (325-475). A horizontal wall crack that has a span this long is usually from tree root pressure over years of growth. I hope they were able to get it fixed. I also think their are many email failures and this one probably was the case. Dean Teaster, Owner

I was considering using a diy kit from a supplier on the web, however my wife suggested getting a quote from a contractor. A friend at work suggested Mr Sponge and they had a great rating on Angie's List so I called. I was asked to take photos of the complete cracks and supply dimensions and they would then quote. They also said the price would be more if they had to clean the cracks. The cracks were from the corner of the windows down to the floor anywhere from a 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch, in some places up to 1/4and quot; I could not take photos because of the condition of the basement. I have a couple of estates being disposed of. Based on my measurement they ballparked the price at $ 4 to 5 Hundred Dollars for the entire job. They did not offer to come and make a quote in person. They arrived promptly and looked at the work to be done. The reaction was and quot;Holy Smoke those are huge cracks and will take a lot of materialand quot;. The measurement were as described before hand. I had cleaned and wire brushed the cracks and picked out any foreign material. He then quoted $1175.00. I had mentioned that I had considered doing the job myself but he said that the kits were $3 - 4 hundred a piece. Actual the company I had intended to used charged $89 per kit and said each kit should be enough for one crack per the description I gave. They supply the same material with the same warranty and can be done without drilling holes. They also gave comparesions between different materials and it doesn't require special tools. They did a great job in 5 hours as I was told. however an estimate of nonleaking cracks was from $ 400 to $1000 + each. The work is warranted for 25 yrs and transferable when the house is sold. I will use the diy kits on the other cracks This is the 2nd time I provided feedback. Mr Sponge did a great job fixing the leaks. My problem is that they did not offer to make a quote in person. I was asked to take pictures and provide measurements. I did not provide photos but did supply dimensions. They quoted $4 to $5 hundred Dollars. When the contractor saw the cracks and quot;Holy Cow, these cracks are huge and that it would cost $1200. The dimensions were the same as discussed. |We needed the work done before the Spring thaw so we agreed to go ahead with the work. |If another crack develops a leak, I'll do the work myself. No special tool are required and the material/kit, enough to do one crack of the same size and costs $90 per kit. I could do the same job for $3 to 4 hundred dollars.

I noticed a large crack in my basement wall this week. Cold air and cigarette smoke from the adjoining unit was coming in through the top of the crack. I called the management company and they put the wheels in motion. Mr. Sponge was contacted by our condo management company and I was called within hours to set up an appointment. The contact person in their office was friendly and helpful and knew just the right questions to ask to be sure they knew exactly the type of repair and materials they would need to fix my problem. They were flexible in scheduling! Dean arrived on time and went right to work. He explained exactly what was causing my problem and what needed to be done to fix it in language that I understood. After getting approval for the job, he went right to work. He worked carefully and neatly. The crack was repaired. All debris was removed and the area swept clean. When completed, the wall looked better than it ever had and the draft of cold air was gone! And, Mr. Sponge warrants its repairs! They have been around a long time and we know from past experience in the community that they stand by their work. I highly recommend Mr. Sponge Waterproofing Inc. Cheryl Kaiser
Description of Work: Mr. Sponge has been the "go to" company for my condominium community since 2007. The community was built on clay, and, as a result, we have had MANY basement cracks as the buildings settle. We need quality repairs and after searching for two years, we found Mr. Sponge. As a member of the condominium board, I have always gotten good feedback from co-owners whose basements were repaired by Mr. Sponge. Today it was my turn to need Mr. Sponge's services. This morning a large crack in the basement wall was filled stopping a rush of cold air coming from next door.

Since we didn't want to rip off drywall just for an estimate, Mr. Sponge advised us to first contact a plumber to check out the drain tiles with a camera. The plumber they recommended was very thorough and found two blockages in our system that had been causing the problem. We have not had any trouble with water on the floor since he was out. Although we did not use Mr. Sponge's services, we are very impressed with the way that they helped us solve our problem!
Description of Work: Requested an estimate to find out why our basement floor was wet after heavy rains. Mr. Sponge staff told us we would need to remove the drywall covering the walls in order for them to get a good look at it.
