Refrigerator was not holding temperature. He came out and said the refrigerator was fine then sold us a $55 water filter for it. It still didn't hold temperature and instead of trying to fix it he simply said we were fussy because we didn't like soft ice cream. He is too lazy to try to figure out why it isn't holding temp.

Ed showed up promptly (as indicated by our review) and seemed nice enough. He asked where the machine was and proceeded to the laundry room. He bent down in front of the machine, opened the door, spun it a few times and gave us the "diagnoses", which was...."the welds in the back of the stainless steel drum were broken and un-repairable. He never moved the machine, took the back off or any other visual inspection. He then said that this was a common problem with fridgiaire and that if we continued to use it, that the results would be catastrophic. He was said that our washer so unsafe that we could be killed if another weld broke when it went in to the spin mode. People had had their tub crash through the cabinet and through walls. However, he said, that we were in luck, as he used to sell appliances and still had his wholesale connections. He said that he could get us a model just like the one we had for only $600.00 and could deliver it in a couple of days. Luckily, I am technically savy individual and just listened and told him that we would get back to him. After he left, I called Consumer's and asked them what Ed proposed and whether that what he offered was allowed. The Consumer's supervisor I spoke to said "absolutely not", she also said that he would be removed as a Consumer's approved repair company. Further investigation revealed that he had reported the washer to Consumer's as "condemned" and not able to be repaired. Accordingly, the service call would have been covered but since we did not have the highest level of coverage, we wouldn't receive an allowance to buy a new appliance. However, due to the circumstances, another company would be sent to check the washer. A couple of days later a very nice young man from another company (Kearsley Appliance Repair in Flint) came to our home. He pulled the washer out and removed the back. He found that the noise came from a frayed drum belt striking the inside of the cabinet as it spun. He also found that there was a recall on the drum support struts which caused the sensors to sense an unbalanced load and interfered with the spin cycle commencing. He replaced the and struts and the washer sounded great and has not had a problem since. Now I can imagine my grandma or elderly aunt dealing with this guy Ed. I won't belabor the point or say things that probably should be said. But as you can see, the second repairman had our interest at heart and Ed.......well you get the picture. I have nothing but high praise for Kearsley, a family owned company for years, that treats you like you are their family. Kudos to them....a big "raspberry" to Ed. Comments:The story above says it all. As far as do's and don'ts If the repairman makes elaborate and scary claims....send him packing and call someone else. Get a second opinion! If the repairman doesn't appear to examine your machine......See number 1. Call someone with a good history and preferably a family owned, long term business. They didn't stay in business that long for no reason. They will treat you well and fairly. If they offer to sell you another appliance, shop around and ask other places. This one may be filling his own pockets at your expense. Good Luck and Keep your eyes open. There are always dishonest people in any business but many like to take advantage of seemingly naive, and unknowing older people.
Description of Work: We have the Consumer's Appliance protection plan. Ed's was dispatched by Consumer's to repair our 6 year old, front loading, frigidaire washing machine. We called Consumer's because our machine had become noisy and wash was taking an excessively long time to go in to the spin cycle.

Everything is working great!
Description of Work: Our stove was not cooking evenly . Ed was referred to us through our consumers appliance protection plan. Ed repaired a faulty burner and replaced the computer within our stove. Because we have the consumers plan there was no cost but due to the type of stove it would have been $900
