Brian showed up and rearranged the cabinets as requested. Before he got there I went to the appliance manufacturer's web site and downloaded detailed physical dimensions for the the new appliances. I gave these to Brian so that he could determine the best spacing for the cabinets and counters. When I went to install the refrigerator I notice the cabinet Brain had modified to fit over the refrigerator was uneven. One side as 2" above the top of the refrigerator the other side was 2.75". I had to ask Brian to come back and resolve this. When I installed the dishwasher it was obvious the opening for the dishwasher was trapezoidal, not square as one might expect. I had to ask Brian to fix it. The stove was in so tight it was nearly impossible to move in and out for connecting the gas pipe and servicing. I had to ask Brian to come back and adjust the spacing. A couple other things are that I felt Brain lacked an attention to detail. The original countertop that he re-laminated had a curve on the back to cover trim work on the back of the cabinet. I mentioned this to Brian when he removed the counter. The new counter did not account for this trim work. The counter was installed and the gap in trim has been left for me to figure out. There were other various items that shows a lack of attention to details. I have found nails in the cabinets that were not pulled out. I have a bit of overlooked crown molding detail I will have to fix myself. So all in all I would say I found his work as average. Now the good about Brian. I believe he is an honest man. We were charged for work within the limits of the estimate he provided. Brian had to produce some spacers for the cabinets to match existing cabinets. The color and wood grain are spot on. Brian cleaned up after himself and was respectful of our house. I think he is a good guy and like him as a person. I think Brian does OK work. It is just that I expected better from a cabinet maker. Bottom line is I feel there was a lack of attention to detail that caused me to give a low rating for Heartwood Quality Woodworking. Please understand I am not saying do not use them. I am simply saying make sure you level of expectation does not include fine detailed work.
