Dexter's Wayne Street Automotive

Dexter is a highly experienced mechanic that can solve repair issues that other shops cannot. He digs deeper than high volume shops and has a complex understanding of considerations when symptoms exist. The shop has a simple waiting area, but I am interested in paying for mechanic expertise and integrity, not waiting lobbies.

Four spark plugs removed & replaced. I also wanted them to check the windshield washer motor as it wasn't working. They weren't able to locate an in stock washer motor for this older Hyundai, but indicated they would check to see if couldn't find a used one (my preference), rather than ordering a OEM replacement. A full courtesy check was made of the vehicle and recommendations made with estimate for the specific repair. Very courteous and clear in what was needed and recommended and the repair clearly within the estimated price. This was the first time I've used Dexter's for my vehicle repair, but after reviewing previous comments on their service, I wholeheartedly agree and will take my cars there again.

As it turns out, this was a very difficult and time consuming problem and I was not the only one that was puzzled. DEXTERS WAYNE STREET AUTOMOTIVE stayed on it and SOLVED THE MYSTERY! It took some time and frustration, but the problem was properly repaired, the labor and parts bill was fair and honest and I am very satisfied with the end results. I had looked on Angie's List and I had heard that he is very reliable and very honest, and it turned out that he is. He really is excellent. He is a good person. I appreciate somebody that is honest. He had to go through all kinds of things to find the problem and he was totally honest with me and didn't charge me for what he didn't absolutely have to do, so I felt good about him. The problem ended up being in the computer as rodents had gotten in and chewed wires and shorted the computer out. I don't have a problem with the man whatsoever.

This shop has an old-time feel with what appears to be up-to-date auto diagnostic and repair equipment and know how. Dexter first took the car for a test run, then put it on the computerized alignment equipment and got readings for all the adjustment points. Then the results were explained to me comparing the vehicle specifications with the readings. A solution was recommended and completed after which the mechanic went with me for a test run. The problem was solved as near as I could tell and it has been fine since. I was told the work time might be 2 hours and I left the shop in exactly 2 hours. It would have been quicker had some unplanned incoming tow not slowed things a bit. The company personnel were friendly as were the other customers.

The shop does not look so modern but it has great people and service. Dexter took my car for inspection and came back with the result meanwhile I was reading and talking to the customers. The process was quick and informal.

He's honest, he won't fix something unless he has to. If he can fix it himself rather than add new parts he will do that. They always go above and beyond, it's just their nature. He's the kind of guy you trust your car to. If you bring your car in for an oil change and he finds something wrong he will let me know we need to take a look at it. If it's up on the lift and he sees something he might take care of it and tell me not to worry about it. He takes real good care of you. His price is way below everyone else. He's really one of a kind in the automotive business.

I've been taking my vehicles to Dexter and his crew for years. I've learned that he and his team will listen to what you say, NEVER try to sell you something that isn't needed, his prices are good and his work is excellent. Because of how badly my truck was running he could have easily told me the timing belt was gone, or any part associated with ignition needed replacement, but I know they don't do business that way. I've referred several people to Dexter's and all of them are still his customers.
