Company did not even bother to get back to me. I requested they visit my property and provide estimates for remodeling 2 bathrooms and installing a 3rd bathroom.
The studio apartment had been a mold haven for years, and we did not know why. When we started the work, we knew there would be structural issues because there was no other reason the mold would exist. James Simmons did wonderful demo work - keeping the space blocked off from the remainder of the studio apartment with heavy plastic draping, vacuuming up through out the work, and alerting us to anything important he found during the process. Our family picked out all the design elements and fixtures - the counter tops, cupboards, doors, sinks, faucets, shower, etc. If we had a question, James was always available for advice, particularly regarding which brands were better quality or installation issues that might favor one item over another and such. James installed everything by himself without any subcontracting. I was impressed by the work he did with the shower - he had to move the shower drain, which was in a concrete floor, and reposition it for the new neo-angle shower. He did a flawless job. James installed all the new fixtures, electrical, ceramic tile, counters, cupboards, doors, etc. He also repaired the external wall through which the water had leaked and caused the damage. He did a beautiful job on everything. James would also schedule regular meetings with me to go over what had been done, what needed to be done, any time sensitive ordering or other issues, costs, etc. I appreciated being fully and routinely informed about the work. I have experienced other contractors who did not inform me and made me chase them down to get information. James actually enjoyed sharing the progress because he is proud of his work and loves what he does. As when working with ALL contractors, I oversaw the project closely to make sure things were being installed as I desired. I am very picky and attuned to details; therefore, my standard behavior is to always communicate my desires in detail to the contractor so that there are no surprises that cannot be undone, and this is true when working with James. If I did not indicate my preference, James would default to his own ? unless there was an obvious choice to be made, in which case he would bring it to my attention and ask for my preference. James is easy going, so anything that I wanted, he would agree. If there was an extra cost involved in a change I wanted to make, he would let me know BUT he did not nickel and dime me! Also, if he could obtain a better price on an item than I could, he would purchase the item and I would then pay the cost. He always presented receipts for items as soon as he purchased them and didn?t surprise me later with anything. We are extremely happy with James Simmons' work, and we are planning to have him do two more major kitchen and bath renovations on the upstairs as soon as we can - and if he does roofs, we'll ask him to look at some work that we need done there. James is insured and presented us with a signed statement from his insurance company. Perhaps more importantly, James is a man of his word as well as a skilled craftsman. I strongly recommend him.
Description of Work: We had our basement studio apartment repaired and updated. There was damage to the apartment in two locations - the bathroom including a portion of an adjoining walk-in closet (damage caused by hidden upstairs bathroom leak) and the kitchen/kitchenette (damage from water leaking through an exterior wall). Both problems required that we gut the kitchen and bath, repair structural problems and waterproof, and install all new kitchen and bath fixtures, floor covering, and lighting. Essentially, we pulled out all the old, repaired the problems, and then rebuilt with entirely brand new materials.

Mr. Simmons never returned a proposal. I called him several times with no response. I am quite disappointed with this outcome since I wanted to get more than 3 estimates for my job.
Description of Work: I needed a quote for my kitchen remodel so Mr. Simmons came to my home on 7/20/2011. He seemed very knowledgeable and competent giving me tips and information I hadn't thought about. I needed to have my old kitchen cabinets taken out and new ones, new sink, disposal, plumbing and electrical for a diswasher all installed. Additionally, my ceramic flooring needed to be taken out and new ceramic installed. I also spoke with Mr. Simmons about a couple additional unrelated small projects that I needed done.

His name is James Simmons. He was working with difficult tiles. He was meticulous and the work was beautifully done. Even though it was a new material that he hadn’t worked with before, he figured it all out and did a fantastic job installing everything. It required a special prep on the floor. That was really annoying, and he had to do extra work for it. He didn't charge me anything extra; instead, he absorbed it. I've used him for some major as well as minor work. He is fairly priced. He is neither the least nor the most expensive. I have used the least expensive providers, and I have had to pay over and over. I have learned not to do that. I don't mind paying a fair price for a good job. He does a fantastic job like there is nothing wrong with it. There was a leak in the shower and he came right back and fixed it right away. I recommend him very highly. I would absolutely use him again.
Description of Work: I used Simmons Enterprises to tear out a moldy bathroom, one that had water damage, and put in a whole new bathroom sometime back. I am currently working with him on a new project.

We found James to be extremely knowledgable and capable in every aspect of the jobs he did. We were kept informed at all times of projected costs and time frames. In many cases, James was able to come up with creative solutions to the unique problems presented by our house. We couldn't be more please with the results of his work - we really appreciated his attention to detail throughout. The tilework in the bathrooms and kitchen is especially noteworthy! Also worth mentioning is that James was exceptionally conscientious about keeping the premises as neat and dust-free as possible during his work. We really appreciated this, since we've had many unpleasant experiences with contractors who have not been as concerned about tidiness. He was even great about working around our pets! We would highly recommend James without any hesitation for any remodeling jobs including plumbing, carpentry, and/or electrical work. He exceeded our expectations!
Description of Work: We had extensive home remodeling projects done, which included gutting the master bathroom and replacing the outdated tub/shower unit with a separate shower and jacuzzi; creating a full basement bathroom; creating a basement laundry room with a sewage ejector system; replacing the hot water heater; installing a gas fireplace; installing library and parlor cabinets, installing exterior and interior doors including a sliding patio door; creating tilework for our kitchen and back entryway; as well many other updates.

James was very knowledgeable and professional. Explained everything he was going to do very thoroughly. He showed up when he said he would and worked efficiently until the job was completed. The original agreement was that he would replace the water pipes but half way through we both agreed that since I was planning on replacing some very questionable drain pipes that this would be the appropriate time to do that job as well. This doubled his time and work and he gave me a very fair price for the additional work. The work looks and functions great. He cleaned up thoroughly and is very responsive to phone calls. There was a problem with one of the fittings on the water heater (problem from the factory not James' work) and he came back promptly and made sure the problem was completely taken care of.
Description of Work: Replaced all of the water pipes in the house and all of the drain pipes and water heater.

I thought it was a difficult project but Jim handled everything with confidence and great skill. He completed the entire project in ten days, as per the plan. With all the concrete drilling he had to do, there was a lot of dust and debris but he kept this to a minimum, with constant use of a shop vac and removal of debris. When he started, we had a sink/stool and old metal shower stall in the basement. We now have a modern, fully functional bathroom which is a valuable addition to the house.
Description of Work: He removed an old, jury-rigged, non-compliant basement bath/shower and replaced it. Specifically, he removed the free standing shower and associated plumbing, removed the laundry tub and plumbing, opened and repaired the concrete floor from the shower to the main drain and made the connections per code, removed the existing ceiling, re-piped the tub drain from the main floor tub to remove it from the ceiling of the new basement bath, moved the wall to make room for the new shower, installed a vent fan, installed a new electrical outlet, installed ceramic tile, installed new laundry sink and new bathroom sink, installed a new ceiling, etc.
