**PLEASE GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING BEFORE YOU ALLOW HIM TO START ANY WORK ON YOUR PROPERTY*** I was having a problem with water leaking into my basement. I found RJ Waterproofing here on Angie's list. He had an A rating, so I decided to give him a call. Roger came out to give me an estimate and thoroughly explained everything that he would need to do to fix the problem. He quoted me a price of $2000 and told me that he would draw up the details and bring it back when he began the work. He came back with his worker (Eric) a day or two later with a different idea of how they wanted to proceed with the job. I agreed and specifically asked him if this would cost me any more than the quoted price. He told me "No" and that the new way would all be covered under the previously quoted price, nothing extra, and that he will draw everything up before he began the work. They came back the following week to do the job. They did a wonderful job of covering up my items so that they would not get dusty, the work was completed in two days, and they put everything back the way it was. No issues with the workmanship. My main problem was that when it was time to pay, HE CHARGED ME AN ADDITIONAL $500 that we had not discussed. He never drew up the job like he said he would or gave me anything in writing before the job started. I should have been more adamant about receiving his quote in writing, but I never thought he would do that to me, when I asked him specifically if I would be incurring any additional charges. When it was time to pay and I made reference to making the check out for $2000, he said "$2,000, oh no no, $2500!" I said Roger you told me $2000 and he got upset said, "I'm not going to argue with you, this is a $3500 job, but I'm giving you a discount, because you are a nice lady." At this point, I couldn't believe he lied, and just wanted him out of my house. I wrote him the check for $2500 as he sits at my kitchen table, finally drawing up the job along with the receipt. This was after the work had already been completed. I called my husband to let him know he charged me more. Roger overheard our conversation and became really hostile, thinking my husband was upset. He should not have been eavesdropping on my conversation. My husband had the right to ask questions if he is required to pay and additional $500. Not to mention that he was talking to me, not Roger. He threw the check back across the table and was saying things like, "I bent over backwards for you", "I did this and did that", "Here, just take the check back", "This is unbelievable" and so on. He did not do anything more than what he said he was going to do in the first place, nothing more, nothing less. I mean he was really getting mad! Now I really just wanted him gone. I calmed him down enough to let him finish writing up the quote and receipt and sent him on his way. I wrote all this to say that if you go with this company PLEASE GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING FIRST. No matter how nice or honest people seem, some people will take advantage of your kindness. I did not have an extra $500 dollars to give him, but I had no choice, and he knew it, which is why he never wrote anything up. If he would have told me $2500 up front, I would have planned for that and budgeted accordingly, but we both know that he told me $2000. Now giving him that extra $500 has taken away from the money I needed to replace the carpet from the room that was damaged by the water, and also from me being able to pay for my central air to be repaired, all problems that he was aware that I was dealing with while he was here. I really hope that the work they did will fix my problem, but I really won't know until it rains again. He does offer a lifetime guarantee on his work, but I am hoping never to need it!. This is by far the worst experience I have ever had with any contractor completing work ont my home.

Roger and his crew could not have been more professional or courteous. They were timely, clean and complete! Every area of our basement that could have been affected by dust and debris was meticulously draped and sealed off to protect them. The worked long hours and made sure the job was done right he first time. Not only that but Roger and his crew treated my wife and children with utmost respect. We would/will be calling on Roger as we move into our new home to ensure we have a dry basement for years to come!
Description of Work: We were in the process of selling our home and during the inspection dampness and water was noticed in a few locations around our basement. We also had a couple of foundation blocks that had shifted and needed to be repaired/reset. R J WATERPROOFING and CONTRACTING was brought in to assess and give a repair quote.

Description of Work: Installed a drain tile system in an existing basement to release water pressure from water trapped under the floor and to prevent water from seeping through the walls. (This is what I remember about the process -The cement floor was cut out 12" from the wall, the cement was removed, a channel was dug out going down to the footing. The channel was cleaned, perforated tubing was installed so it sloped toward the sump pumps, then covered in peestone and cemented over. Two sump pumps were installed along with several clean outs. The water is now discharged out the foundation in accordance with local code. All existing cracks in the walls and floor were fixed. They moved and covered all the items in the basement while the work was being completed and returned them to their original placement. (All debris was cleaned up and hand carried in buckets up the stairwell.) In addition outside areas were built up to prevent water from pooling along the foundation. | |We had a major rain storm and I had to call them back because there was a small amount of water coming in from one corner. The response was immediate and the problem was quickly fixed. | |The guys did a lot of other things like moving flowers so they could dig and drain paths, making two cabinets out of one large old cabinet and removing a couple of trees that were too close to the foundation. | |The job was completed as scheduled and I was very happy with the cleanup.
