We decided to hold off on this repair, however, I was extremely impressed with the professionalism and follow up of this contractor. We had many questions ans when our salesman could not answer them all, he had the owner contact me directly. Martino answered all questions and concerns and was very knowledgeable. We will schedule with this company when we are ready to have the work done.

I had a contractor put on an entire roof for me in 2009 and for the past 4 years every spring the roof would leak they would send out a subcontractor go up on the roof do some patch work and it would hold until the next spring. This year they sent out Martino Home Improvements first thing Mr. Martino came in the house and inspected all the way to the roof to see where the problem was took pictures inside and out and told the original contractor that they needed to tear off everything including the boards and start from scratch in that area. The project manager Jay kept me informed all along the way and when the crew showed up they were very professional explained what they were going to do put in a whole day of tear off and replacing the wood the underlayment and the shingles cleaned up after themselves and with all the rain we have had here recently we haven't had a leak. I would highly recommend Martino Home Improvement for roof repair.

They came out in May 2013. They replaced our roof. We found them on Angie's List and the owner came out and gave us a quote. He was very personable. The crew came out, they worked very quickly. The place was a disaster while they were working. The cleanup was fine but they damaged some of my siding. They said they would fix it but they never did. I would say don't give them the payment until all of your needs have been met because they won't come back and fix the problem The roof was done well but they did not fix what they broke. I would not use them in the future.

I contacted Martino via the web site for a free estimate, and they called me a few days later. I made an appointment for them to come out the following Monday to check out the roof, but they never showed up. I called that evening and left a message for someone to call me back, and did not receive a return phone call. It doesn't really matter though, someone who no call no shows on me does not get another chance. I understand that sometimes things happen, but this is simply unprofessional. Edit 5/23/2014: As of today, I have not received any calls or emails from this provider after the original call was made to set up the time for an estimate. Unfortunately, it is too late to reconcile with them as the work has already been completed.

Response from Martino Home Improvements
The homeowner did in fact contact our office and schedule a free estimate. We have recently added new team members to our staff due to the volume increase of our growing company. One of the new team members had regretfully made an error when entering the appointment into our data base. This mistake was caught the following morning by management and attempted to be reconciled. We reached out to [member name removed] in efforts of extending our apologies as well as rescheduling the Free Estimate. We have had no response from her. We do our best to give 100 % customer satisfaction, but human error is inevitable. This appointment was no cost to the potential customer and we were willing to go above and beyond to prove our dedication to her interest in our company. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Right off he told me that he wouldn't touch aluminum siding, so that eliminated that. I explained what was found on the roof by the inspector. He didn't have much to say about that. Then we got to the soffit vents. He told me that there were three ways of addressing this. He spent most of his explanation on "smart vents", which required removing 5-6 courses of shingles, cutting in a vent, and then replacing the ice shield and shingles. I said "that doesn't sound cheap." He then started telling me that 'nothing he does is cheap, and if you want cheap you called the wrong guy: we don't do cheap.' Wow! I don't know if he had already made his mind up about what we were looking for or what, but the conversation quickly went downhill from there. When I tried to ask questions about the other two alternatives he had said were available he launched into 'that's not the kind of work we do.' But I'm not the one who mentioned that there were three alternatives! Finally, he asked me "What do you want to do?" When I told him that he hadn't explained what my alternatives were and that saying the same thing over again wasn't helping me to understand, he stuck his hand out to shake my hand and said, "Have a nice day. This wasn't going to work out anyway..." ! I was floored. Honestly, if that was his mindset, I'm glad he didn't waste more of either of our time. But this was *far* from professional. And my rating reflects that. Maybe if your job lines up exactly with their thinking they're a great company. But I have no idea how you're supposed to know that in advance... I guess at least if it doesn't you won't waste a lot of time, but be prepared for a condescending reply.
Description of Work: My home inspector found a number of small things that needed to be done on the roof (popped nails, flashing in need of attention, a saddle installed, chimney work), sofffits (more vents needed) and siding (small repairs to existing siding). I needed a quote for that work.

Response from Martino Home Improvements
I Martino Montalto, president of Martino Enterprises , was on this appointment. I met [removed member name], [removed member name]and their 5 month old daughter. They just recently purchase the house, [removed member name] informed me they were moving fast to get things done. The home inspector came out and found a number or things wrong with the roof. The inspector told [removed member name] poor craftsmanship was the cause of most of the issues with the roof. [removed member name] and I walked around the house while [removed member name] explained as well as visually showed me his concerns. We briefly spoke about Nail pops, flashing, chimney saddle, ventilation and a number of other issues. Also there was a problem with aluminum siding. I explained to the homeowner immediately that our company does not repair aluminum siding due to the delicate and fragile materials likeliness to crease and dent. Also the age of his materials (approximately 30 years) would make the risk even greater. After [removed member name] and I walked around the home the first issue we began speaking about was the lack of ventilation. I attempted to explain how important it is to fix the issue, as well as the different options to do so. [removed member name] stated he was “looking for something cheap” I then explained that my company will do corrections the proper way, if he was looking for cheap they called the wrong company. My Company does not cut corners, break city codes, etc. in order to keep the project cheap. I discussed again the three ways to fix the ventilation problem, smart vent, adding soffit vents on the aluminum “Not Recommended” and redoing the soffit with hidden soffit vent material. After I explained the process of each one, I asked him which one sounded best to him. The homeowner explained to me that he didn’t quite understand what a soffit vent was and needed more information. I went to my vehicle to get my iPad to show pictures of smart vent and soffit vents. I did not have a picture of the hidden soffit material. I tried to explain to him 3 times what the hidden soffit material consisted of and the process of how it works. It may have sounded as if I was repeating myself, however I was giving my best efforts to help him understand the process as well as a visual of the recommended product. [removed member name] was clearly having difficulty either understanding myself or the concept of the product. [removed member name]began to show aggravation and hostility, instead of arguing I politely shook his hand and told him I didn’t think it was going to work out. My intentions are never to offend or upset anyone, however when I am being spoken over, disregarded, and questioned upon the knowledge of my company I choose to respectfully agree to disagree. My company installs over 750 jobs per year and has been in business for 15 years with three generations of experience. I have come to the conclusion that we are not for every customer and every costumer is not for us. I wish the best for the [removed member name] Family.

Description of Work: Zip torched off existing flat roof on summer porch, and replaced it with a new one. A slight pitch was added to the new roof in order to prevent puddling. Did not hire Martino Home Improvement due to their high pricing
Description of Work: A sales person from Martino's came to my home for a free estimate on cellulose insulation in my existing walls. He was very professional. He also gave me pointers and advice on other areas of my home which I greatly appreciated since I am a new home owner. However, he noticed I needed new basement windows and suggested glass block. So since he was there, he gave me an estimate on these as well. He gave me a price of $600 for 3 basement windows, no vents. A couple days later I started shopping around for other estimates from other companies. After researching and reviews in Angie's list, I went with Metro Glass Block Inc., located in Fraser, MI. who is doing same type windows with 2 vents for $186.00. A friend of mine said $600 sounded way to high and I was wise to shop around. 2 other glass block companies were around $200. Not sure if salesman saw what he thought was a naive customer so he quoted me such a high price or if Martino Home Improvement just charges way too much money. You be the judge. So, based on quote he gave me for my original reason, cellulose insulation, I am going to shop around first. I am sure since their quote for windows was 2 times higher than 3 other companies I contacted, the quote on the insulation I suspect is inflated as well. Be wise. Shop around.

I would never use them again. While the roof was finished, the team was unprofessional, bringing girlfriends and kids to the worksite. Description of Work: Repairs to flashing at chimney roof repair.
Crews were hard workers and did not slack on the job. Remember, the closer to summer you sign a contract, the later the install date. Crew was delayed by rain before starting job, but the finished product has drawn many compliments from neighbors and passers-by. Company made good on negotiated items left out of contract by mistake.

The guy showed up on time and was very professional. He was polite but explained how they only do jobs for $400 or more. We explained the we just needed to wait one more year to do the whole roof but had some wind damage and lost a few shingles during a spring wind storm. He was very kind and said they had alot of left over shingles that he was sure would match and he would turn it over to his office and they would call and let us know. We told him we would be very grateful if the could just help us make it one more year. I'd had a serious back injury which was very expensive and we meant it when we said we would call them next year for sure. I guess they have no time for small money even if they may make a customer for life. The guy they sent out was very nice but I guess the company is just in it for the bottom line - not the people. Plus they sounded very very expensive.
Description of Work: No return call shows us that unless you are spending the big bucks they aren't interested in doing a repair and waiting to do a complete roof job next year. I know times are hard but if you want the customers to come back - return with a phone call even if you can't do it. It's called professional respect.

The overall experience was very positive and the staff was very attentive. The owner (Martino) even came out to finish the transaction when the salesperson that I originally spoke with could not get back to me right away. Everything was done in a timely, professional manner.
Description of Work: I had called Martino to get an estimate on a roof repair even though I really needed a whole new roof. I had talked to a number of other companies prior to talking to Martino and felt that the other companies were very high pressured and trying to sell me things I did not want or need, but Martino was very attuned to what I said I wanted. At first I wanted to just repair my roof but the price and terms were so reasonable that I changed my mind and purchased a new roof. What was nice was there wasn't any pressure to buy an entire roof. The roof process went smoothly and the roof looks beautiful. The roofers cleaned everything up very nicely but make sure if you have any perennial flowers that you let them know not to rake them up. A large percentage of my garden was raked up and the dormant perennials along with it. But Martino was very nice about it and gave me a credit that matched the cost of replacing the flowers. In fairness to the roofers, my roof was put on in December and unless you garden, the dormant perennials could look like weeds. I used the credit to have some indoor plastering done on my walls. They did a great job! The staff was courteous and very helpful and I would definitely use them again.

I had a very unique roofing issue and Martino's guy's were great at solving the issue and also addressing it to make sure it didn't come back again. I'm very pleased with their service and professionalism. I'd recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: I had a section of my roof that was sagging between the rafters and several companies that came out couldn't figure out what was causing it and continued to blame water damage. Martino came out and reviewed it and gave very good examples of what could be causing the issue and told me that his guy's would make sure they'd uncover what was going on prior to re-installing the new shingles.

I moved into my current house about a year ago. Unfortunately the previous owners had started a back patio project that they did not finish. It included concrete and stone and it was quite an eye sore. I called Martino and set up an appointment. They worked very well with my schedule. Their salesman was very punctual and low pressure. He spent over an hour with my wife and I answering questions, measuring and discussing options. He wrote us up an estimate and left his personal cell in case we had other questions. We had several other companies provide quotes and we weren't satisfied with any of the other options provided. We called Martino back and asked them for a second visit to discuss different options. After some adjustments from the initial plan we finalized the plan and pulled the trigger. They scheduled us for work about 3 weeks out and began on time. After the demo they placed all the molds for pouring and asked me to inspect prior to pouring. I measured and asked for several adjustments. They were made as I asked without any hesitation and they poured and stamped the concrete. The next day it was sealed and the day after they visited for a final walk through. I'm very satisfied. They were fair in price and very easy to work with, even with my shifting requirements. Great company!
Description of Work: Remove stone border from existing concrete patio. Remove wooden posts from unpoured patio space. Cut and reform existing concrete. Pour a concrete extension to existing patio with new concrete border and fire pit.

The roof in question is an older roof which will require replacement before long. Martino also gave us an estimate, Proposal, to replace the complete roof as an alternative, but we felt we were not in a position to do that at this time. Never-the less, they were willing to do this relatively small job; and we felt that we received the same attention and considertion that would have been given to a considerably larger and more expensive job. The workers were most polite, and professional. They really seemed to know what they were doing. Upon discovering that they would require some unanticipated equipment to properly seal around the chimney , they advised us and indicated they would come back to complete it at a later date, which they did. Overall we feel they went above and beyond what was expected and have absolutely no complaints. We believe it speaks very highly of the company that they would devote such attention to such a relatively small job.
Description of Work: Martino Home Improvement replaced 5 non-bird proof vents, roof cap and damaged shingles on older roof, and sealed around the chimney. They cleaned up everything afterwards including removal of nesting material from attic.

I would , and have, recommended this company to others Their work comes with a Twenty-Year Parts, Labor and Material Guarantee. As part of their contract, they will call me every two years to set up an inspection of the roof and do any repairs that are necessary.
Description of Work: I had a complete tear-off and replacement of roof shingles, as well as the roof of shed. Owens Corning architectural shingles, with 130 mph wind resistance, were used. Also 6 feet of ice and water barrier around the full perimeter of house was installed. (15' feet over front porch) I also had my gutters and downspouts replaced. I was very pleased with the quality of the work, and the professionalism of the installers. The roof was done in one day, followed two days later with the gutters. The area around the house was completely cleaned of all debris, and a magnetic sweep was done to assure there were no nails to damage car tires.

I would rate them overall an A. They were very good. It's possible I would use them again for another estimate or for work. The people we went with had been in business for a long time and have an A-rating from Angie's List. But they specialize in roofing and do all the things that we needed done. What I was afraid of with Martino is that they are a big company, they are huge. Their materials are all quality but you don't know about crew that will be working on the project. The company I went with is a small, family owned business and you're going to get the same people doing the work.
Description of Work: We did get an estimate from Martino Home Improvements. They came out in mid July and gave us an estimate for a Owens Corning roof along with a ventilation system and a new gutter in the back. They were also going to put in a new deck and a little bit of aluminium work. So the project was a little bit more than just a roof.

He went on the roof and placed a tarp on the roof during the storm to stop the water from during further damage to my house. I greatly appreciate his effort. His guys arrived 2 days later to replace the roof. They did a fantastic job and were very professional. They picked up and hauled away all debry, including all the roofing nails.
